Speaking of ole Yagi here news coverage Typhoon Yagi hits Vietnam, deaths reported in China The powerful Typhoon Yagi reached Vietnam on Saturday, after killing two people and injuring 92 others in China. In Vietnam, the super typhoon brought wind speeds exceeding 149 kph (92 mph), state media reported, uprooting thousands of trees and sweeping ships and boats out to sea. Before the typhoon landed, strong winds brought down a tree, killing one person in the capital Hanoi. The typhoon also caused the closure of four airports, including in Hanoi and Haiphong. Power outages were reported in large parts of Quang Ninh and Thai Binh provinces. Yagi had made landfall in the southern Chinese island of Hainan the day before. The storm lashed "Hainan with heavy rain and gusty winds, leaving at least two dead and 92 injured", Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua said, citing local authorities. How has Yagi affected Hainan? Yagi packed maximum sustained winds of some 234 kph (145 mph) near its center when it made landfall in China on Friday, plucking trees and flooding roads. It caused power outages in over 800,000 households. Some 420,000 Hainan residents were relocated before the storm reached the Chinese coast. Yagi paralyzed the island of over 10 million people on Saturday, as all public transportation links in Hainan remained broken. The tourist island's main airport in Haikou was closed until 3 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Saturday, state broadcaster CCTV reported. www.dw.com/en/typhoon-yagi-hits-vietnam-deaths-reported-in-china/a-70160194

I thought my heat wave was bad check out Balkans Three weeks without a drop of rain’: How the Balkans grappled with hottest summer in over 130 years Southeast Europe was “trapped” this summer under a subtropical warm air mass from Western Africa and the Mediterranean Sea. Jelena Popovic normally loves summer and all it brings along, including the hot weather. But this year it was just too much. “This summer was too hot, you couldn't walk in the city. It was only pleasant when you swim," said Popovic, a resident of Belgrade, Serbia's capital. “It was like a tropical summer, like we live in Africa and not in Europe." This was true for much of the Balkans, a region in southeast Europe that is used to hot summers but where this one broke previous records with repeated heat waves and almost a totally dry July and August. www.euronews.com/green/2024/09/09/three-weeks-without-a-drop-of-rain-how-the-balkans-grappled-with-hottest-summer-in-over-13

The Hollywood Bowl had to cancel a concert Sunday evening because of a power outage. The scheduled performers were Vance Joy, Grouplove and Tiny Habits, as part of a KCRW Festival event. The venue said it will provide updates on when the concert can be rescheduled, and tickets bought for Sunday will be honored at that future performance. abc7.com/post/hollywood-bowl-loses-power-amid-intense-heat-wave-forced-cancel-concert/15280344/

That pretty bad folks LOL! Southern California wildfire burns so intensely that it creates its own weather as it spreads, forcing evacuations Thousands of Southern California residents were forced from their homes Saturday after an explosive wildfire grew thousands of acres in size in mere hours – and is burning so intensely that it is creating its own weather. The Line Fire, which began about 53 hours ago in San Bernardino County, has burned more than 17,237 acres – up from nearly 7,000 acres just a few hours earlier. About 4,800 homes have been affected by the evacuation order in the Running Springs and Arrowbear Lake areas as of Saturday evening, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department told CNN. Hundreds more have been evacuated in the city of Highland. The fire was at 0% containment on Saturday evening. It was first spotted at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains near Natu www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/southern-california-wildfire-burns-so-intensely-that-it-creates-its-own-weather-as-it-spreads-forcing-evacuations/1690510

Get this first time in 100 year they get alot of rain Europe: Extreme weather warnings in Germany, Poland, Austria Large parts of central Europe are bracing for potential flooding this weekend with heavy rainfall expected across parts of Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. Up to 400 mm of rain is expected to fall on the highlands on the Polish-Czech border within just 72 hours, according to local meteorological stations, with consequences for surrounding regions and nearby towns and cities. In Poland, authorities have issued their highest weather warning in the southern voivodeships — or regions — of Lower Silesia, Opole and Silesia, while the mayor of the city of Wroclaw has convened a crisis committee. In 1997, a third of Wroclaw was flooded when the River Oder burst its banks. "There is a realistic risk of local inundations from Friday to Sunday," said the Polish weather service. I saw the video of the photo on the link it really sad it old man hug firefighter get out of flood At least four dead in Romania after severe flooding in Central Europe As severe floods make their way through Central Europe, countries are being hit by what could become the worst floods in almost 30 years. At least four killed in Romania Five people in eastern Romania have been found dead after torrential rainstorms dumped unprecedented rain, leaving hundreds stranded in flooded areas, emergency authorities said Saturday. Rescue services scrambled to save people in the hard-hit eastern counties of Galati and Vaslui. The bodies of three elderly women and two men were found in the localities of Pechea, Draguseni, Costache Negri, and Corod, the Department for Emergency Situations said. Authorities later added that one of the victims had been dead for two days and “did not die due to the effects of the weather” but from other causes. www.euronews.com/2024/09/14/at-least-four-dead-in-romania-after-severe-flooding-in-central-europe

This is crazy crazy crazy Europe floods: Parts of Vienna without power as river rises River overflows, flooding streets and homes in Vienna The water level of the Wien River in the western part of Vienna rose from 50 centimeters to 2.26 meters in the course of a day, emergency officials said. Hiking and biking trails are flooded, and restaurant terraces along the river's banks are under water. In the suburb of Penzing, northwest of Vienna, the Wien River also overflowed its banks in some places. Homes were evacuated, while streets and an underground parking garage were under water. Electricity was cut off in three districts of Vienna. The power company promised to restore service as soon as possible. Two subway lines in Vienna were partially closed. Heavy rains cause dam to fail in southwestern Poland A dam in southwestern Poland has burst after heavy rains, officials said. The dam in Stronie Slaskie, in the Lower Silesia region, gave way and water from the Biala Ladecka River is now flowing freely into the Nysa Klodzka catchment area, a meteorological network said. The town of Stronie Slaskie is located in the Klodzko Valley on Poland's border with the Czech Republic. Police have sent a rescue helicopter to the area to bring people stranded by the water to safety. Army soldiers are also on the scene. On Saturday evening, a dam burst in the nearby mountain village of Miedzygorze. Elbe River levels rise in east of Germany Germany's eastern state of Saxony is bracing for flooding as Germany's Central European neighbors battle rain and rising water levels. State officials said the Elbe River at Schöna, near the border with the Czech Republic, was expected to crest at 7.50 meters (23 feet) on Tuesday afternoon. That will be enough to trigger the highest alert level in the area. The Elbe has already reached 5.59 meters (16 feet) at Schöna, over three times its usual average of 1.58 meters (4 feet). It is expected to reach 6 meters by Sunday evening. If the water rises enough to trigger the highest alarm level, dams could overflow or break, authorities said. The state capital, Dresden, is on the Elbe. Its historic center will be protected from rising water levels by mobile barriers that will be set up on Monday. Authorities in Dresden were also racing to complete the rem www.dw.com/en/europe-floods-parts-of-vienna-without-power-as-river-rises/live-70220078
