Here what the worst of it Residents self-evacuate following powerful mudslide in Beverly Glen With hillsides already saturated from last week’s storm, the new system pummeling Southern California is causing life-threatening landslides that are damaging property. One slope collapse occurred in Beverly Glen where residents near Beverly Glen Boulevard and Caribou Lane evacuated themselves after hearing a loud rumbling sound in the middle of the night. When will the storm end? What Southern California residents need to know Debris completely covered Caribou Lane early Monday morning nearly destroying one home and causing extensive damage to several others. Rocks, plywood and other muddy debris were “all that was left of the house,” KTLA 5’s Eric Spillman said. I am in world of hurt trouble with this so called atmosphic river LOL! Not over yet: Historic atmospheric river won’t be the last of the rain in California Millions of people in California won’t get a break in the stormy pattern with a renewed risk of flooding on the horizon right on the heels of a devastating system that wrecked havoc across the state. As California residents reel from the lingering effects of a deadly storm that prompted a state of emergency, AccuWeather meteorologists are tracking the next storm expected to swing through the state this week. While less intense than its predecessor, the storm will bring additional rain and wind to the region that can slow cleanup efforts and the recession of floodwaters. Over Sunday and Monday, downtown Los Angeles received 7.03 inches of rain, marking the third wettest two-day span in the city's history, as well as back-to-back days of a daily rainfall record being broken. To put this event in perspective, the 30-year historical average seasonal rainfall for the downtown area is 14.25 inches. Yeah that whole alot of rainnnn How much rain has fallen in Southern California during the storm? Here’s a map An astonishing, and likely record-setting amount of rain has fallen in Southern California from the atmospheric river event that began drenching the region on Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, some areas of Los Angeles have received over 11 inches of rain since the storm began, including Woodland Hills, Bel Air, and the Sepulveda Canyon area. Downtown L.A. has seen more than 7.5 inches, marking the third-highest two-day rainfall total in history. ktla.com/news/california/how-much-rain-has-fallen-in-california-so-far-heres-a-map/

There she is blow againnnn!! Iceland: Reykjanes volcano erupts, cuts off hot water A volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland erupted Thursday for the third time since December, spewing lava streams up to 80 meters (260 feet) into the air. Video footage of the crack in the earth's surface, estimated to be 3 kilometers (2 miles) long, showed the fissure illuminating a plume of smoke rising into the dark morning sky that could be seen 40 kilometers (25 miles) away in the capital, Reykjavik. Bright orange molten rock spewed from fissures in the ground on the Reykjanes peninsula, and lava crossed a road near the Blue Lagoon, a luxury geothermal spa, which had to be closed because of the eruption. www.dw.com/en/iceland-reykjanes-volcano-erupts-cuts-off-hot-water/a-68209445

OH OH it about climate change folks Critical Atlantic Ocean current system is showing early signs of collapse, prompting warning from scientists A crucial system of ocean currents may already be on course to collapse, according to a new report, with alarming implications for sea level rise and global weather — leading temperatures to plunge dramatically in some regions and rise in others. Using exceptionally complex and expensive computing systems, scientists found a new way to detect an early warning signal for the collapse of these currents, according to the study published Friday in the journal Science Advances. And as the planet warms, there are already indications it is heading in this direction. The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (the AMOC) — of which the Gulf Stream is part — works like a giant global conveyor belt, taking warm water from the tropics toward the far North Atlantic, where the water cools, becomes saltier and sinks deep into the ocean, before spreading southward. edition.cnn.com/2024/02/09/climate/atlantic-circulation-collapse-weather-climate/index.html

Get ready for another pacific storm we Cali residents LOL! Pacific storm train to bring one-two punch of wet weather and renewed flooding this weekend Following a welcome dry break, the next pair of storms will take a path farther to the south, increasing the risk of hard-hit areas receiving additional rainfall. California residents have received a welcome break from rain and storms following the deadly mudslides that tore through southern parts of the state earlier in the month. The floodgates of the Pacific Ocean will again be flung open as AccuWeather meteorologists project a storm duo to provide a one-two punch of wet weather this weekend into early next week. A brief storm will break the dry stretch for Northern California around midweek. "After several days of mostly dry weather, there will be a quick but heavy shot of rain moving through northern parts of the state through Thursday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Heather Zehr said. www.accuweather.com/en/weather-forecasts/pacific-storm-train-to-bring-one-two-punch-of-wet-weather-and-renewed-flooding-this-weekend/1621785

The tree came down near Eden Drive around 1 a.m. Tuesday, bringing down some power lines with it. Some parked cars in the area were spared. No injuries were reported, but an estimated reopening was not provided. Crews were expected to respond to clear the road. By 7 a.m., the road was still closed and created a traffic mess for morning commuters.
