Hi All,
Cheryl, we have 2 subarus, and we love the full time AWD. We have snow on the nearby hills right now and getting to -7C at night. We love the all-wheel-drive of the Subarus and I love my turbo....that said, I'm also a big fan of a slow revving thumping V8...nothing beats cubic inches.
I went out 4WD with a mate, and this jeep had broken down - the rear diff uni joint had sheared off clean at the back diff, so this vehicle was stuck half way down a 1:1 grade. My mate had his V8 landy and we dragged this dead jeep & passengers up the hill in low 1. The Toyota landys are unbreakable....Australians are a pragmatic bunch and prefer the toyotas for their proven off-road toughness.
The subarus are full time AWD ( not 4WD ) , and they do go through tyres faster, but we run Yokohama C drives which have phenomonal grip and we live in a mountainous area, so grip is much preffered.
Hope everyone is good.... :-)

But, gas mileage is also something that we must be wary of, but we don't have the mountains to contend with, like you do. I have a V8 in my Silverado, and that truck gets up and goes.
Well, I've started my canning. I've got 10 pints of Polish Dills, 3 pints of Sweet Pickles, 5 pints and 2 half-pints of Sweet Pickle Relish, and 2 quarts of Tomatoes put up so far. I probably had enough tomatoes to do one more quart, yesterday, but not enough room in the canner to do only one more. I'm getting lots of tomatoes, this year, but not the peppers. The cutworms got to my pepper plants, and stopped the process.
The one thing that drives me nuts, about canning tomatoes, is that I can stuff that jar, until there's no room left in it, and after processing, I have 1/2 jar of tomatoes. Amazing. But, there is still nothing better than a good old fashioned, home grown, vine ripened tomato.

Hello everyone; it's mighty quiet around here. Daniel has been away on a mission trip this week (not far, just in NC), Thunder the dog is away for the day being groomed, John of course is at work, so it's just the cat and me (and he's not too chatty ).
It's been so oppressively hot that I decided to spend a few minutes out back, straightening the deck while it was still shady, then I started taking pictures of the screened porch, then started posting them on FB, and before you know it -- an hour is gone. I have to get busy inside now.
So much to do... so little time! Lorrie, I saw those pictures that you took, of your beautiful deck. I absolutely LOVE it! It looks so cozy and inviting! I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. You always say that my decoration is so pretty, but you have far exceeded anything that I've done.
That's neat about Daniel being on a mission trip. I have been seeing that your friend's son, DJ is on a mission trip in Haiti! It's so awesome seeing how far he as come, since his accident. For everyone, who doesn't remember DJ Rish. He is the young man, who only a few years ago, was involved in a bus accident with his scout troop in Columbia, South Carolina. There were several injuries, but DJ was submerged in gasoline and trapped by the wreckage. It was touch and go for a long time, and several infections happened because of the fuel poisoning. They also had to amputate his left leg. But, with many struggles, and a LOT of prayer, DJ just recently celebrated his 18th birthday, and he is living his life for the Lord. DJ Rish is a walking, talking testimony for the Glory of our Lord. His mother posted this, and I hope ya'll can see it, here. I lightened it up a bit, so it's readable, but had to reduce its size, as it would be way too large to post it here.
OK, I had to edit it, to make a smaller picture, so just in case, this is what it says:

Good Morning all! I'd just about given up writing anything since no one was talking, but I guess folks are back now, so that's nice! Hello everyone; it's mighty quiet around here. That's what my family drove when we were in Europe, and we never had problems getting stuck in snow or driving anywhere, or not being able to start the car when the temps would drop real low. No matter how bad the weather conditions were, that little car started right up and handled the road like a pro! Hello, I have moved at last and am nearly dead with strain. Sounds like you've been really busy Cheryl. I'm glad you're still able to do all that stuff. I know absolutely nothing about canning. I was planning on learning to do it when I first started the vegetable garden a few years ago, but after that year my body got worse and I realized I wasn't going to be able to do the vegetable garden anymore anyway, and by the next year there was no way I could have done the canning anyway, even if I knew how. Plus, neither of us can handle very much tomato in our diets anymore anyway. So it all worked out I guess But, at least I still have my strawberries...assuming I can get up the nerve to go outside again.....Hello everyone; it's mighty quiet around here. That's really beautiful Cheryl, thanks for sharing it. God sure is amazing!
My oldest son, Michael is still sick. Better in some ways like the infection, but still not good. I guess they think it's the RA behind it and it's causing problems with his heart now. He seems to think the doctors are doing a good job at figuring things out though, so hopefully they'll be able to get him back to full strength. They tried him on the prednisone, but it just doesn't work long term for him, so now they're trying to figure something else out. I haven't heard from Christopher lately, so I'm hoping to get hold of him today if he's home. I'm getting anxious to see him! Well, I guess I'd better get busy here. Like Lorrie said, so much to do, so little time! The only other things I have to do today are work on the bills and make some phone calls, and of course attempt to clean the house....maybe LOL

Just popping in to say hello and I'm having a bad day. No headache or anything like that, just a problem with a house project.

Yes Lulu! It breaks my heart to read about the men who died and the families they left. I was really hit hard hearing of the youngest one, Skip - partly because he's the same age as my Timothy, and also because he's from Marietta, GA, one town over from my hometown. There is a picture of him with his mom just last week at Disney..... I believe the article said he was an active member of Woodstock First Baptist, which is one of the best in the area, strongly evangelical, so that gives me hope that he is with the Lord. I pray hard for his mother, the other families, and for every mother who has ever lost a beloved child, including Cheryl, Ruthanne, Lee... Speaking of Lee, I am SO glad to see you back here because I have been wondering what happened to you!!! We have MISSED YOU! What has been going on these last few months? How are Stan, Chelsea, and Nicki? Are things going well at work? Glad you found us! Lulu, happy that you have a day off AND that it's a Jazzy weekend! I know you two will really live it up and do something fun!! Sorry to hear your veggies haven't all done as well as you'd expected; it's a disappointment to work so hard and then them not grow right. Glad though for the ones that have done well, and yours too Cheryl! Sounds like Cheryl has been working hard on the canning (well, Cheryl always works hard at whatever she is doing!). Cindy, thanks for the update on Michael. I'm sorry to hear he is still not doing well.... so had he previously been diagnosed with RA also? Were you able to get in touch with Christopher yet? I hope you see him soon - you must be anxious! Steve, can't imagine snow on the ground... the temps are running about 100 degrees F right now and it's miserable! Jtheb, always glad to hear from you, and hope you are getting settled into your new place. Cheryl, thanks for the comments on our screened porch. John really loves fixing it up each year with plants. He recently changed out the string lights from one strand of colored across one side of the porch, to white lights across three sides of the porch, although you can't really see them in the pics since it's daylight. Thank you also for posting the update on DJ... he is doing great three years after his accident. He just got back on Wednesday from a mission trip to Haiti. He graduated from high school in June, turned 18, and is getting ready for college. He is very smart! Can't remember what his major is supposed to be. So grateful for how the Lord is working in his life!! Well Daniel should be on his way home from the mission trip with our church youth group. My project for the week was supposed to be painting his bedroom, but that is the problem I referred to yesterday, and the project is not done, not even close. He has moved into Timothy's old room, over the garage (the FROG ), which had been our schoolroom for years before that. I had painted the room green about 10 years ago and it's faded and in bad shape, so decided to paint it. Daniel wanted orange . I wasn't crazy about the shade he chose (I pretty much hated it ), but John said go ahead and paint it the way he wants and we can change it out if needed when we try and sell in a couple more years. Finally got the first wall done last night and even though it's the color of a pumpkin, it may turn out to be okay in the end. Have to go now.

yes Lorie, I read about Skip the other nite, he was so young and full of life... here today! pray it last allllllll day...even more then 2 thunders, but it's not *close* it's way up there. not even seeing the lighting, but for sure hearing the thunder! last nite was a good nite with Jazzy...had a some what disturbing talk with her...about her mom....it's so sad to know there's nothing I can do to get her out of the nightmare she's living...the web of lies she has to maneuver through to get to truth is really disturbing. please pray for her to keep focused on truth and to go by what she see's and knows in her heart to be true...which is the opposite from what she's TOLD. which is wicked hard for a 9 year old who is really about 6/7 emotionally....

Lee, the ladies have been asking where you were.
Cheryl, I am glad you are able to do some canning from the vegetables from your garden. Donna gave me two zucchini so I grate them and use them to extend a dish I am already making, like chili, lasagna, or soup, that is a money saver to be able to do that. I plan to buy some zucchini and other vegetables soon from Apple Annie's, I won't buy the vegetables and fruit at the store. I had to throw away three peaches because they rotted before they ripened, with the being radiated and what we get from Mexico is radiated. I do have somewhat of a garden in pots, but it is herbs only and I like them, they are doing well.
Lulu, we are not getting any rain to speak of here, just a few sprinkles, but the sky does cloud up and there is lightning.
Yesterday I cut Ron's hair for him, looks much nicer after I cut his hair and today I sewed on my sewing machine a windsock, which Ron will put up tomorrow.

Hi Anna! Sounds like you've been busy, sewing, cutting hair, cooking. Apple Annie's is a cute name for a store (I'm guessing it's a little independent veggie stand). Living in the SE, I think (hope) the peaches we get are locally grown and pretty much tree-ripened; I hope they're not radiated! Good uses with the zucchini, to extend other dishes. We don't really eat much zucchini (John and boys are not fans), however my grandmother used to make a delicious zucchini bread that would melt in your mouth it was so good.
Can you take a picture of your wind sock once it's hung, and show us? We'd love to see it!
Lulu, hope you did end up getting some rain! Sad to hear that about Jazzy and her mom... no surprise there, but still it is sad. Thank you for the reminder to pray for her.
Daniel got home safely from NC and didn't even walk up the stairs, just went straight to the couch where he promptly fell asleep, and has stayed asleep all afternoon. Then John and I fell asleep too so it has been a very quiet day. Need to get supper started; have bake some potatoes to go with a package of steaks from Aldi. I hope the steaks are good; that is not something I fix very often at all (since I'm not much of a steak eater), but it sounded good the other day as I worked outside, and Aldi had them for a reasonable price.

Hi all,
I had no idea this board existed or I'd have been here a long time ago. Somehow I must have missed the memo.
Stan's doing okay. He had another bout of pancreatitis awhile back so he saw a specialist. Turns out being a CF carrier (that's what Katie had) increases your risk of of getting it. When I told Stan's primary after I had done some research about it, he thought I was crazy. He didn't say so but I could tell. When we went to the specialist and told him About Katie his response was that was one test he wouldn't have to order. He then went on to say that anyone he sees with unexplained pancreatitis gets tested to see if they are a CF carrier and told me I needed to be aware that it was possible for me to get it too. turns out Stan has a cyst on his pancreas but he is pretty sure its benign. We go back in Oct to make sure. Also, Stan has decided to retire at the end of the year when he turns 62.
Chelsea is doing well. She got hired as an English teacher for the School her and Katie graduated from. She's just waiting on the official paper work for the alternative teaching license. She'll be the middle school English teacher. The school goes from kindergarten to 12th grade. A couple of her cousins will be in her class. That ought to be interesting.
Nickie and his girlfriend broke up. He's back to living with his parents and working with his dad.
I'm still working at the same place. Not much has changed with me.
Hope everyone is well.

Everyone!
Lee, it's good to hear from you. I had no clue that you didn't know about the new forum! Cindy posts from here, onto facebook, just about every day. Her links take you directly here. I just figured you were really busy and would come see us when you could. Lulu, I'm so glad to hear that you are getting some rain! I'm so sad for Jazzy, and pray that the Lord will keep her eyes open and on Him. I'm sorry that you've had some things do not so well, in your garden, this year. I'm thinking maybe it's because of the drought? Is your Hibiscus still going well? I transplanted mine and it's pretty tall and has lots of buds on it. It's not as full as it was, last year. It's pretty much started over from the root. I have another one planted now too. It's just getting started. Cindy, I'm sorry that you cannot enjoy any of the outdoor fun, anymore. I'm slowing down, considerably, mainly due to the heat, but it's just not possible for me to work, near as long or as hard as I used to. I'm just hoping the Lord will give me enough get up and go, finish it all. As for the canning. It's a financial necessity for me to preserve as much as I can, and I pray also that He will make it possible for me to continue to do it.
Lorrie, I thought I'd make my reply to you, in orange. LOL, couldn't resist after reading that you are painting Daniel's room pumpkin orange. I hope it looks good for him. Glad to see he is home, safe and sound.........and sound asleep. Sounds like this trip really wore him out!
Anna, I like your ideas for canning. While I don't think I could live in a desert type environment, like where you are, I admire everything you do. And if I could get every fruit and vegetable from local growers, I would do it in a heartbeat. When I do find a decent deal on the produce at the grocery store, I get a fleeting thought of preserving it and right away, change my mind. I also don't trust what they do to our food.
Well, speaking of grocery stores and being worn out. I am both. Ed and I went to the grocery store, today and it was 96 degrees out there and NO wind. It just wore me to the bone, and my leg attacked me, while I was trying to get it all done. I took a nap, after we got home, but still don't feel all that rested. It just aggravated the daylights out of me, the prices they want for meats. So, I got us some kosher hotdogs (that's all I will buy anymore is kosher), and since they wanted $22 for 4 pounds of ground beef, I didn't buy any. And I just looked at Ed and said, "Well, if they want to charge those hideous prices for meat, we might as well go take a look at the fish. We can't do any worse, and will get something we've been wanting, instead of paying these prices on beef. It's either that or we start talking about going vegetarian." So, we wound up getting some shrimp and some white fish that was processed in Washington State. That will go nicely with a cucumber salad and some fried green tomatoes, one day this week.
Did ya'll hear that they repealed the legislation where they don't have to label the meats, letting us know where the food came from? Apparently, they don't think it's the consumer's business to know if the cow or chicken we are eating was processed on American soil. And now Tysen Foods shipped thousands of jobs to China, and are now having their chicken born, butchered and processed in China and then shipped back to us. NO THANKS! I won't buy it. I'll starve to death first. OK, just a little vent..........no it's a BIG vent.
OK, I'm gabbed enough for one day. It's after 11:00pm, so I think I'm just going to mellow here for a bit and hopefully fall back to sleep.

Spent yesterday with my son; went to my grandson's soccer game. Hubby didn't go with me because he was feeling bad, so I decided I would stop at Nebraska Furniture Mart in a town called The Colony on my way home. It's close to my son's house. When I mentioned it to Tim (my son), he said he would like to see it too. It's a huge store, very high tech. The parking garage has small lights above each space so when a car leaves the space the light changes from red to green. You don't have to peer around big pickups to see if there's an empty space. You just look for a green light. The signs inside are on touch screens. You touch the product you're looking for and a map appears to show you where it's located. I could have stayed another hour but Tim was getting that "eyes-glazed-over" look (common to all males who have been in a store more than 15 minutes ) so we went home. I just enjoy looking at new stores even though I don't want to buy anything. Hubby has been watching the British Open golf tournament (beginning at 6 AM!). It's odd to see people bundled up in the cold wind and rain because it's so hot here. Glad to see you back, Lee.

Margie, that sounds like a pretty neat store. I would enjoy something like that. LOL that "eyes-glazed-over" look. OK, you just explained a LOT to me. Now I on to him. (my Ed)

Thank you Cheryl for the compliment, I also admire you because you know how to stand up for yourself and speak your mind and are intelligent. I don't buy meat but instead buy soy burgers that are flavored like beef or chicken. There are two brands and both are good, Morning Star and Boca, they also have bacon strips and sausage patties. Yes, I have known about the legislation where they don't have to label meat. I have a poorly written note I wrote about that in 2014 in one of my books and it says, "Panama canal in Central America-China-distributor of exported cooked meat."
When I lived in Nebraska, it seemed like almost everyone bought there furniture from the Nebraska Furniture Mart there in Omaha.

I tried to buy "veggie" burgers, one time for Ed and me, but Ed saw it in the basket and asked who I thought I was going to be cooking those for. So, I took them out of the basket. I wanted to have some. My mom made some, one time, and they were very good. I think I'll look up a recipe for them, and see how they are made and make some of my own, maybe. I made spaghetti several times, with ground turkey breast, and Ed never knew the difference and even commented on how good it was and when for 2nds and 3rds, lol. I finally was busting at the seams and had to tell him. He said never to do that to him again. I haven't, but have been tempted. Maybe now with all this meat going so sky high, he might have a different attitude. We'll see.
Well, that standing up thing hasn't always been a good asset, because I do sometimes get too passionate about things. But, my mother always taught us to have a backbone and never "go along" with what was popular, and stand up for what is right. Even though I wasn't raised in a household where they taught us about the Lord, I know the Lord worked on me, though my parents rules and teachings of things, to prepare me for His path. My mother accepted Christ and was saved, before the Lord took her home.
During the GW Bush administration, he passed a bill, requiring companies and stores to label their meat as to where it was raised, and processed. Some companies complied, but not all of them. Now, obama has repealed it. I saw it on the local news, about a week ago.

LOL Cheryl, thanks for the reply in orange. That's just about the shade it's going to be, too. Margie, that furniture store sounds like a pretty neat place to visit! That glazed-over look is how I get when John drags me into places like Best Buy and tries to discuss electronics. Anna, I also admire Cheryl for the way she stands up for herself or anyone she feels is being mistreated. Well I need to get to sleep; VBS starts at our church bright and early tomorrow morning. I was at church half the day decorating my area for teaching music to the preschoolers; I just posted a few pics on FB of several of the rooms - mine, the room where Daniel and his friend are teaching the Bible story, and my friend's craft room. Everything turned out really nice. Our theme is "Adventure Off the Map" - kind of a woodsy/jungle/campy theme. I've never taught preschoolers in VBS before - Daniel has though, and he assures me that age is "evil." Prayers appreciated that all goes well. Thanks!

Saying a prayer Leigh, what do you teach preschoolers about music? If I was ever going to learn anything about music , I think I would have to sit in the class with the preschoolers. Cheryl, glad to read that your mother was saved before she died.
I just learned how to use the bookmarks here. yeah

Illuminati "Wants You To Eat Worms" Starts at 2:15 .Anna - Thanks for this, it confirms other people who have said the Satanic pagan earth worshipping NWO mob are going to force everyone to go veggie to "protect" the earth that they worship as their pagan goddess "Gaia". One way they do this is to artificially force up the price of meat. Its happening here in Australia too, even cheap cuts of meat are being priced up and up. Of course, they welcome their "god" , the antichrist and Satan with open arms.... which is also why many who are supposed to be "conservative" in the "Establishment" now speak openly against God, His Word, and praise abortion, satanism, and who undermine Gods word, mislead people & create confusion, who embrace & promote sinful un-Christian ways. You are seeing the masks these people used to use being thrown away now, as they know the final phase of their deceit is coming to fruition. "Can two walk together lest they be agreed?" Joel 3:3 "And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." ( Matt 24:10-14 )

Cheryl and Anna, thank you for the prayers. Our first day of VBS went pretty well. To answer Anna's question, I have a CD of six upbeat children's songs written to go with the Bible School theme. The church buys a curriculum and it contains everything we need for the week. The children are put into small groups with several leaders, and the groups rotate through: Bible story, missions video, music, crafts, recreation, and snacks. We also have an opening and closing time each day with the whole group in the auditorium. So, I have four groups of preschoolers (ages 3-5) rotating through my class and I teach a couple of the songs per day and try to teach a few hand motions to go with the words. The little ones are so cute, although attention spans are brief so I have to keep things moving - literally! (Two of my classes are 30 minutes long, one is 25, and one is 20 minutes.) I have two teenage girls helping me, and all the leaders for preschoolers are teenage girls also. At the end of the day one of my helpers said, "You kept changing the hand motions to the songs!" and I just laughed and said, "Well that's because I can't keep them straight!" I found the following video on Youtube that shows the theme song for our VBS - even though it's not our church, this is very typical kids choir behavior (cute!) :

Thank you for the videos, Anna and Lorrie. Anna that video was very informative, and I hope it got out there and reached the multitude, and pray they are listening.
Lorrie, those children were precious. Especially that little one on the front right, who sang to his heart's content. lol

Leigh, the children dancing in the video are so cute. The girl in the back had plenty of room to dance across the stage.
