Anna, it is so interesting to hear all the places you have lived!!
My husband grew up just north of Jacksonville, in the Fernandina Beach area, and most of his siblings are still there (6 there, and 2 in Georgia). I like the area, but it has really changed in the years since I started going down (which I just now realized is 30 years this summer - whoa time flies!! )
In what part of NC and VA did you live? My sister is in Roanoke. I just love the mountainous area of NC and VA, couldn't be any prettier, and the weather in the mountains is so much cooler and less humid than any of the places I've lived (which is only metro Atlanta and now Columbia).
Living on a boat sounds so exciting!! St. Augustine is another beautiful town and you must've loved that. I've never been as far down as Miami and certainly not the Keys (but would love to go); John says the water in the Keys is transparent. I'm sorry Ron was ill and you had to return to land, but it sounds like he's fine now so that is good.
Also, what a blessing to have the time you did with your father, being able to help him in his work, and then inherit his land in Arizona. Thank you for sharing with us a little of your fascinating life story!

He was the villain in Lord of the ring films good at it Well well they talking about future EL NINO winter in my hood on so cal news last night Hope you all get some water soon Kelly!
El Nino means water? As in rain and snow? I think so Catt, but I'm not sure... Good morning ladies, it is good to hear from John and how well he is doing. I hope you all have a blessed weekend. It was good to read Cindy that you enjoyed the play that Gracie was in and that all the children did good at speaking out their lines to say in the play. Thanks Anna, hope you're having a good day today! Yesterday was my daughter's birthday, so we met her at a restaurant for her birthday dinner (Mexican food). We had a good time, but we were missing the youngest boy who was at church camp. I gave her a "Sorry, We're Closed" sign for her kitchen when she doesn't want to cook, a bag of shelled pistachio nuts (her favorite), and a calendar with dog sayings on it. Made BBQ ribs early this morning for tonight's dinner. We're also having corn on the cob and a salad. It's already hot here. Hugs to everyone! What a perfect gift! I need one of those signs too! It would get a lot of use! Supper sounds good too! Wish I could come over!To your daughter, Margie
It is hot hot hot here, especially with only one room that gets cool air from the air conditioner.
It's been hot here too, right around 80. But thankfully we have Air Conditioners for all the rooms. Tomorrow should be nice though, back to normal with a high of 60, but the rest of the week is in the high 70's and low 80's. Happy birthday to Diane! I only met her briefly (when Margie {Dogstaff} was coming through town last year and her daughter dropped her off to meet me for supper), but she was very sweet, just like her mom. Those were some fun gifts you got her!
Anna, how long have you lived in Arizona? I know you lived in Florida (wasn't it the Jacksonville area)... where else?
Some of you have really "gotten around!"
Jtheb, glad to hear you are going to be living near your daughters. Thanks for the update.
I loved traveling, still do. But we don't get around much anymore. Although Bruce has been talking about us getting away for a couple of days on our anniversary this year..... I'll believe it when I see it Hi everyone. I posted this on my birthday thread, that I just found.....thank you Margie for thinking of me.
But, I thought I'd copy and paste it here too.
Today I'm making shiskabob. (sp) I found a few small cuts of beef on sale and am making the best of it. It's the "cook it or lose it" type sale. So, anyway, Ed went to the store and got us some more mushrooms, grape tomatoes and green pepper. I got that all prepared, put the meat in a ziplock bag to marinate, and was fixing to make another cucumber salad. Got into the dishwasher to get my FAVORITE Pyrex bowl, and as I grabbed it, my stupid hand opened up.......dropped the bowl back into the dishwasher and it exploded all over my kitchen!!! And I mean everywhere!!! I was, once again, barefooted and couldn't move, or I'd have glass all in my feet. I picked up what I could reach, but REALLY needed the broom! When this happened years ago, I had "let go" of a stack of nice Pyrex bowls, but my pantry was right next to me and I was able to "sweep" my way out of the mess, to get some shoes on. But, this time, I couldn't and I hollered for Ed, who was out on the front porch, but he couldn't hear me. I reached a heavy plastic drinking glass and threw it across the house, into the front door, hoping he would hear that. He did. LOL and came and helped me get out of my predicament. What a mess. And I don't have my favorite bowl that my Mom gave me. It's a set of 3 with lids, and it was the medium sized one that's perfect for everything. Oh well, such is life. How terrible Cheryl! I'm glad you were able to get Ed's attention so you could get something on your feet. Hope things have gone better for you since then. We are hoping here in Cali you know we need the water because of our mega drought that what El Nino really we wishing for it That's what I figured Kelly, even though I wasn't positive what el nino is. Anna, how long have you lived in Arizona? I know you lived in Florida (wasn't it the Jacksonville area)... where else?

Leigh, I have lived in Arizona now for 12 years. Ron and I both grew up in the state of Nebraska, we were friends in high school. Ron moved to North Carolina and I married him and moved there also, we were there for one year, then we lived in the state of Virginia for one year, then we lived in Jacksonville FL. There he told me we were going to live on a boat, because he liked boats, I said no way, nobody lives on a boat, but we did for 10 years and we both enjoyed it. We didn't like living in Jacksonville so we motored the boat to St. Augustine, and we like living there, then we motored the boat down past Miami to Key Largo and live there and we liked living there, but Ron was ill and we then moved back to Nebraska. I wanted and needed to spend time with my dad and so I did, for years I went to work with my father to help him do his work, just so I could be with him and talk to him and I am so glad that I did that, it strengthened both me and my dad and I have positive memories. A few years after my dad had died peacefully in his sleep I left Nebraska and moved to Arizona where my dad left me this property to live on, and I am happy living here.
You have gotten around quite a lot haven't you? Nebraska is one of the few states I've never been to. Maybe one of these days we'll get to go visit it. I lived in the Florida panhandle but got down to Jacksonville and a few other places as well, just for visits though. I loved the panhandle area! I'm glad you got to spend time with your dad before he died. That's always a good thing. Anna, it is so interesting to hear all the places you have lived!!

Also, what a blessing to have the time you did with your father, being able to help him in his work, and then inherit his land in Arizona. Thank you for sharing with us a little of your fascinating life story! I always wanted brothers and sisters. I guess that's why I was so close to my cousins. Later, when my mom remarried, my step father had a daughter my age, so I got a sister then, kind of. She only lived with us for a year though, and then we were both adults and went our own ways. I wanted to be close to her, cause I wanted a sister, but she wasn't really interested lol. I think that's partly why I wanted so many children myself when I was a child and continued to even as an adult. I loved the idea of a big family...still do!
Good morning everyone!
Sadly we didn't get to go to Cassandra's graduation. The school decided to have it indoors so each graduate was limited to their immediate families due to seating availability. The weather report called for rain that morning which is why they switched it to indoors. It rained the night before, But then yesterday, it didn't rain at all! So thanks to a bad forecast a lot of folks didn't get to see the graduation. But Jenn and her family came over and we all had a great time visiting together. I taught the kids some of the old jump rope rhymes and songs, which they enjoyed.
Best of all is that the strawberry plants produced enough strawberries yesterday for each of the kids to harvest a dozen! We got a total of just under 5 dozen strawberries in 4 days from our little strawberry patch! And there's more to be had today and for days to come yet! We have to start over now though, because the kids and I ate all 5 dozen yesterday!
I've gotta get caught up on housework today though, so I'll see you all later!

Congratulations, Cindy, on such a lovely yield on your strawberries!! Mine didn't do well, and I got bored with them and yanked them out. I wish I could have given the plants away, but no one around here, wanted them.
Anna, you have lived a very intriguing and wonderful sounding life. I've always wondered what it would be like to live on a boat. I love the water. I've never been to the Florida Keys, but I've been all over the state of Florida, including Miami. I really don't care for Florida. I'm not used to that type of heat, and I think it may be the main reason why. But, then I encountered 3 tornadoes. Two of them at one time, in the Florida Panhandle, near Panama City in Lynn Haven. (but, I've gotten that anywhere I've traveled, and lived. They seem to follow me. lol) Then when I was 9, I got stung by a jelly fish, and then later got lost on the beach. That was in Jacksonville. My own fault, getting lost. I'm a space cadet from birth, and always watched my feet, when I walked and never realized I'd gone so far. Three hours later, my mother found me. Then I ended up being taken from the dock, by ambulance, due to the heat, when I was a commercial driver. Just not my state, lol. But, neither is Texas. I liked Houston, and didn't mind Dallas/Fort Worth area, because I could get in and out quickly. But, I hated going through Austin, because it was so congested and I especially hated the evils of Laredo, and always got stuck there, for a minimum of 3 days. And if you know the life of truck driver....if their wheels are not rolling, they aren't making any money, so if I'm going sit for free, I want to go home. lol (side note: Margie, if I knew you back then, I would have made it a point to visit. And often too, because I lost count of how many times I've been there, and had to spend several days there, too.) But, when they cut me loose, I could get outside Texas in a matter of hours, instead of days, lol. I've lived in Indiana, where I was born and grew up. Then in Colorado, which is nice, but I don't want to live there, anymore. Then Illinois, back to Indiana, down to Kentucky and then over to Ohio, and back to Kentucky, where is obviously where my earthly home should be, and where I will die, or be raptured from, whichever may come first.
Kelly, I sure hope that you and Ron & Lulu get some good rains soon. That drought situation ya'll are going through needs to end. I just hope ya'll don't get the mudslides that go along with it.
I know I haven't replied to enough posts. But, Ed just told me that it's getting quite warm out there, so I need to try to get my roses planted today. They deserve to be in the ground. I've got 10 bushes to plant, but I wrote about that in the garden thread, so I'll spare ya'll here.

Leigh When we lived on our boat in Jacksonville one day we drove in our car up to Fernandina Beach to see if we would want to motor our boat there but there was to much of a rip tide running through that area that we knew we would not be able to live there. On our way driving home I was looking out the window of the car and I saw a blank panther wild cat, a beautiful cat to see, I felt wow. Have you ever heard of Fort George Island golf course, where the historic Kingsley plantation is,just south of Fernandina Beach.? I worked there; I should write out some time about a miracle that happen while I was there. We lived in Fayetteville North Carolina, when Ron was in the Army and Virginia Beach, Virginia, when Ron was in the Navy. While in NC we did get to ride on the back of two Army guys motorcycles up to the mountains and it was nice there, fresh air and cool. When I lived in Virginia and Ron worked nights I used to bum around with a Jewish woman that was an acupuncture doctor. She went places and I was glad to be able to tag along. Yes the water in the Keys is transparent, that was nice, unlike the dirty water in St Augustine and Jacksonville.
Cheryl, there were a lot of jelly fish in the waters near Jacksonville, I was lucky I never got stung by one, ouch that must have hurt when you got stung by a jelly fish. There were also a lot of shrimp and crabs in that area. I have heard that Laredo Texas is not a good place to go to. When I merge onto the Interstate here near where I live the only sign to merge on going east says Le Paso , like what? skip the state of AZ and NM and just assume driving east means going to Texas.

Just stopping in to say Hi! I got lost in Ezekiel and just couldn't bring myself to stop. But here I am. Better late then never.
Yeah, we had lots of tornadoes when I was in Florida Cheryl. When I was about 10 I got caught outside in one of them. That was scary! We didn't have many jellyfish in our area, although there were some. But for the most part the water was beautiful and clear. I loved it! I wouldn't be able to handle the heat there anymore, but at the time, it never bothered me. Maybe that's because I spent most of my time in the water lol. I didn't care for Texas when we lived there though. It was just so flat and by then the heat was starting to bother me, but only on the really hot days when the a/c didn't work
I've been surprised at how many strawberries we've been getting! I picked another 2 dozen yesterday! I could hardly believe it. And there were another 10 or more that I knew would be ready by today. It just seems to be never ending, which is just fine with me as I love strawberries! It's raining today though, so I'll have to see if I can pick a time in between the rainstorms to go out and pick them.
I'm going to go check the rest of the board real quick and then I'm going to have to get busy as I haven't done a single thing in the house yet.

Just popping in to say hello to everyone. Hello. Had a very busy couple of days, and I only got 5 of my 10 bushes in the ground. It is just too hot out there, and the last five would have been in the worst sun of the day. Today, we mowed, so no planting. I needed the break, anyway, because my legs wouldn't work for me when I got up this morning, and just little while ago, my back finally stopped spasming. I think I'm doing a little more than I should be doing. But, I have to get it done, now, or those plants will die.

Hi everyone. It's supposed to be 102 degrees today. I am so thankful for running water, electricity, fans, and air conditioning!
Last few days have been kind of busy. A dear friend called the other day. Her husband and daughter had dropped her off for a doctor's appointment and were going on some errands, when they were involved in an accident. I picked her up at her doctor's office then we went to the ER, where her hubby & daughter had been taken by ambulance. The side air bag hit her DH in the face and he was & is continuing to have problems with his eye/vision and is unable to work or drive for awhile. Her daughter was okay but upset. A couple of days later her daughter was hurting from the impact so we took her to a doctor downtown to see about that (my friend and her daughter are both legally blind, although they can see enough to get around). Please say a prayer for her husband's complete healing, since because of the other family disabilities, they depend heavily on him.
Then we had to get Daniel off to youth camp for the week. I decided sort of at the last minute he needed his asthma inhaler because he still has a bad cough left over from when he was sick the week before last, and I didn't want him getting up to camp in those musty rooms and relapsing. Of course, his asthma inhaler has been missing for months (since a youth camp-out last fall) -- I had sent it with him and he swears he brought it home and handed it to me, and I swear he never did. To make matters worse, it was a brand new one, and those things aren't cheap at all, which is why I'd never replaced it. So, I had to scramble around and have the doctor's office call in another one; thankfully it all came together and we were able to get it before he left.
Anyway that's a little of what's been happening in our neck of the woods....
Going back to posts from several days ago, Cindy when you mentioned your step-sister, it reminded me of the Masterpiece Theater mini-series Wives and Daughters, set in 1800s England. A widowed man and woman marry and they each have a 17 year old daughter, who become best friends, but that mother is 'a piece of work.' It is actually a novel written by Elizabeth Gaskell in the 1860s, which I haven't read, but the film version is excellent, if you ever get a chance to see it (or maybe read it).
Cindy, I'm sorry you didn't get to see Cassandra's graduation ceremony. It's a shame that it could've been outdoors anyway. Oh well. It sounds like you had fun teaching the kids some jump rope rhymes. That might be something I could do with the monthly music class - they would enjoy that. How nice that you had a good little crop of strawberries, what fun!
Oh boy it's 10:00 - I need to get out there and do some errands myself before it heats up any more, so will have to write more later (still wanted to comment on Anna and Cheryl's posts about where they've lived). See you all later.

Cheryl, It is good to read that you and Ed got your rose bushes planted, that will look so nice. Yesterday we got a little rain and a cool breeze so I was able to dig out with a shovel some large tumbleweeds in the yard. I only have three more to dig out with the shovel and the rest of them that are smaller I can mow down with the lawn mower. I was going to send a picture of Art holding a rattlesnake but then I had second thoughts thinking it was too country of a picture for city folks, so I did not post the picture. I'm off to do some work and going to Art's house. bye, Anna Leigh we posted at the same time.

102???? I think I'd melt! That's awful! That isn't normal for you is it??? I'm sorry you had to get another inhaler for him. I know those are expensive these days! (like everything else it seems) I found a great list of the jump rope rhymes if you're interested. Here's a link to one of them that has a lot on it: www.buyjumpropes.net/resources/jump-rope-rhymes-songs-buyjumpropesnet/ That's funny about that show Lorrie, because it was when we were 17 that she lived with us for a year Cheryl, It is good to read that you and Ed got your rose bushes planted, that will look so nice. I don't care for snakes but I'd love to see your pictures! Besides, I'm not a city person, I live in a very rural, country area.
I've got a doctors appointment today, and the usual chores, but other then that, I just plan to post here. So I'm going to go get busy doing that right now!

This is a picture of Art that was taken yesterday, with a rattlesnake. Today we put our ultra-light plane in his barn and there is where Ron will fly the plane off of Art's runway.

A rattlesnake!!! Please tell me it's DEAD!!! I'm so glad you posted the picture Anna. Cindy's right -- there's no picture that's too country for us, in fact, we'd love to see more pictures of your area, so post away. Cindy, thank you for the nice long post. I would say more but just got home from church and John's home from NC & wants to watch Sense and Sensibility, so will talk to you all later. ETA: Correction, it's not S&S that we're watching, it's Persuasion. These Jane Austen movies always make me think of Jetheb.

I'd sure be grateful to have someone like him around, who would get it for me. lol I've been told that there are snakes in these parts. Even have seen the ones at the nature center, that they have in captivity, and say they are indigenous to this area. I don't see them, in my yard (thank the Good Lord!) and am glad I don't. But, I sure hope that if one is in my vicinity that I'd spot it in time to get out of its way! I do see them at the lake, all the time, when I'm fishing. They startle me, when I don't see them coming, like the last time Ed and I went fishing. I don't know where this thing entered the water, but a water moccasin (cotton mouth) swam right under my fishing rod. He was about 3 feet long, and about as big around as a quarter. One of the biggest I've seen out there in quite a while. I just hollered over to Ed "INCOMING!" lol, He'd already seen it, and said "yep, that's a big one!"
Anna, I'm with everyone else. I would LOVE to see more pics of your area too. I'm "country" for the most part, but I actually know what you mean by that. You live in "rough country". And compared to you, we are all pretty much spoiled.
Lulu, I sure wish I could take some of those hours off your hands. You're getting too many, and I'm not getting enough. Isn't that the way it always works? But, today, I had a little extra work to do and didn't get it all done, so my boss told me I can come back in on Friday and work a few hours. So, I'll get a little bit more time in this week. It's not much, but I'll take it.
Hey I kinda just want to "kick back" for a bit. So, I'm going to sign off here, for now. I'll try to get back here, tomorrow, and check in.

Good Morning all! I'm sitting here munching on some of my yummy strawberries this morning!
That's a great photo Anna! Thanks for sharing it with us! We have lots of snakes here, but no rattlers at least that I'm aware of. I had enough of them when I lived in Tucson!
We have our last graduation today and I have some other chores to do, plus another post I have to work on. But I wanted you to know that I wrote this for you all today. I've been wanting to for the last week but then yesterday finally did it and I just had to write it... It's finally happened.

Bucky and Andrea left today to drive a horse trailer to South Dakota, and will be there for a week, so we are feeding the farm animals for 9 days. A few days ago the air conditioner in their new GM truck quit working, that was only 100 miles past the warranty. So Andrea who has a family member that works at the GM headquarters called there and talked to her family member and that person gave her some code numbers to give to a GM dealer to replace the air conditioner for free. She took the truck to a dealer and by four days later the new air conditioner was still not put in the truck, she called back to the GM headquarters to complain and also had to take the truck back with no new air conditioner installed and now they are on there way driving to South Dakota with horses in a horse trailer without their truck having the air conditioning. It is hot outside today 110*. They will take turns driving for 23 hours. I would not have the strength to do that. I would think there would be other people in these other states that have horses and give horse rides. Horse rides are not cheap it costs 1,500 per person.

My daughter's kids will be here tomorrow to help us with chores. I made oatmeal cookies this afternoon for them to snack on.
Really hot here; I think it was 93 or 95.
Not much going on. Hugs to all.

I hope the move goes smoothly, for you. I know moving is hard work, and am so glad that you have your children there to help you. I'm sorry that you are still feeling so low. My prayers are with you. I spotted you on Facebook. I sent you a friend request.

Wow, no A/C in Arizona, is like having no heat in the north pole!! Well, at least they won't miss it in South Dakota. The climate is way different, there, and they will most likely be using jackets instead. The storms have made it quite chilly on the northern part of the country. Are they going to the Badlands?

Margie, I'll bet your oatmeal cookies are scrumptious! That is sweet of your daughter's kids, to come help you! Yes, it's been really hot here too, but has rained every day this week. They are calling for 5 to 10 more inches of rain, for the next week. Lots of flash flood warnings. And the news media have a slogan now "Turn around, don't drown", for the people who think 6 inches of water is nothing, until they are in the middle of it and get swept off the road. I don't know where it was, but I saw a video of a semi truck from CRST, drive through a flood that was half way up his doors. He made it, but what an idiot!! Especially since he barely missed a car that was submerged.
And people just don't think about sink holes developing in flooded roads.
Note: It is after midnight, here, and it is 75 degrees and VERY humid. (100% according to the weather channel site.) I stepped outside and it is so muggy out there. I walked out to the garden and felt slight raindrops. It felt almost like a rain forest does.

Hi Cindy, I was curious, so I looked it up to see if there were really no rattlesnakes in your neck of the woods, because it really seemed there would be, but no. You have the Timber Rattlesnake, but it is very rare and an endangered species. They actually want folks to call and report sitings, because they are that rare. You have other snakes, though. Which would be enough for me to jump at the site of one. lol
I'm fixing to go read your new thread, now.

Morning all! Yesterday was a busy day for us. We had to do the grocery shopping when Bruce got home from work too so didn't get back till late. That always wears me out more. But Bruce wanted to ride His bike to Laconia today as it's the end of "Bike Week" there, so he'll be gone all day. The kids are coming over tomorrow, so I figure I'll get the house cleaned up today while Bruce is gone and no one's underfoot, and that way I'll be able to just relax and enjoy tomorrow. Bruce is worse then my kids though he kept bugging me to try and find out if Jenn was making him more cookies for Father's day, but I wouldn't tell him!
Well cats are here for their treats again, guess I'll go get that out of the way. Be back soon with more coffee!
