Time for a new thread so I thought I'd take Anna's suggestion and use a scripture for it. This is one of my favorites: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) Not an easy one to live up to though, but we can always keep trying.
Thank you for the prayers for Laura Anna, I know she will appreciate it greatly!
Bruce is off work today. He took one of his vacation days to go to Laconia for Bike Week. Since it's close by, he can go up there for the day. I think he's also taking Friday off to go up there too. I'm surprised anyone's at his work, as they all love to ride their bikes lol. I know some of them are going, but I don't know how they chose who would get to go and who would have to stay...but then since it lasts all week, maybe the guys are going on different days or something like that.
Elijah graduated from 4th grade yesterday. He starts middle school next year. Now I really feel old. It seems like just yesterday that he was toddling around the house.
Strange, but every time my oldest son went on a camp out with the scouts, he came home sick. Well, Elijah went on a camp out over the weekend and sure enough, he came home sick. One of the boys had the flu, and now everyone else has it. Thankfully Elijah got over it so he was able to go to his graduation, but his dad and Gracie had it yesterday. Jenn's held out and hasn't gotten yet, I'm hoping it will skip her. I'm sure I'll find out tonight, because if she's going to get it, I'm sure she'll have it by then.
Well, I'm off to work on the bible studies! See you all later! Have a good day everyone!

Cindy, you and I posted on the old chat thread at the same time, so I'm moving over my post:
Hello everyone - Cindy, I'll go read your link in a little while. So sorry to hear about Laura's brother; have you heard an update? Also sorry to hear that your back is bothering you; hope it's better by now. Cute story about the little bear!! Anna, so happy to see your post! Sounds like you've really been keeping busy with all the history reading you're doing. That's a good thing! Did you get the Pepsi cleaned out of your car? I spilled coffee in my car last week; fortunately the car has dark interior so it didn't stain. I agree about cleaning before it gets too hot! Drove my car through the car wash yesterday then did a quick vacuum while there. The temp was 95 degrees with a heat index of 105. DEFINITELY better to do that kind of work early in the morning! Speaking of bugs, they're awful here too. And, I'm nearly 100% certain a snake was stretched out under our gardenia bush Monday night. We had a church Ladies Night Out at a friend's home... it was so pleasant, each took our own supper and sat on her screened-in porch (which was also covered in plastic and air-conditioned) and ate and visited for a couple of hours. I arrived home after dark and was walking in, talking to my mother on my cell phone and glanced down at the bush... there was a SNAKE. Since I was talking to her, I did not scream or pitch a fit, just rushed on inside. She couldn't believe it when I told her! Dogstaff, glad to hear there is no flooding in your immediate area. At least the rain gives you a chance to stay indoors and read! Hope everything is well with you. Getting ready to go with John for his second Remicade infusion this afternoon. Please pray that there are no reactions and that it actually works. Thank you.

Love the new title Cindy - and Anna, good idea!
Congrats to Elijah on his graduation! I remember when he was born and also can't believe he's that old! (Here in SC, middle school begins in grade six.) So sorry about the flu, and hoping that Jenn does not catch it!
Hope Bruce has fun at Bike Week!!

Just said another prayer for him Lorrie. I can't believe you didn't scream when you saw that snake! I know I would have! I'd have apologized, but still... I don't think anyone would ever blame another person for screaming when they'd seen a snake near by!
I feel guilty now hearing how hot it's been for you guys. Here I've been complaining on the days (like today) when it's in the low 80's! Guess I'd better keep my mouth shut huh? Maybe I'll remind myself of one of my scriptures that I've memorized when I start to complain: Psalm 141:3 Set a guard over my mouth O Lord, Keep watch over the door of my lips!

awww how cute! That reminds me.... do you guys remember Chippy the chipmunk that used to come onto the porch every day to visit with Sunny? Well, I've missed him, because he hasn't been around since Sunny died, but Bruce mentioned to me a few weeks ago that he'd seen him on the porch again, which really surprised me, but I hadn't seen him at all. Not till yesterday anyway, and sure enough, he came right back to favorite spot which was on top of our little decorative light that shows a cat next to a light pole. He sat up there just like he used to. It was so great to see him again, I'd wondered what had happened to him. I honestly don't know if it really is chippy or if it's perhaps one of his babies grown up. I know he had a family because he showed us his babies once, the fall before Sunny died. But most eastern chipmunks die within 3 years, although I've read that they can live up to 8 years.... so I'm just not sure, but would suspect that this is probably one of Chippy's youngsters. That's ok though, we'll just call him Chippy anyway and consider him Chippy the second lol

Yes I remember you talking about squirrels or chipmunks that would eat the seeds from your bird feeder, and some that would go on the outside of your screened porch or glass window. I think you posted pictures back then of them and your cat. I think either Chippy the 1st is back or it is Chippy 2nd. Do you have bird food in your bird feeder?
About 10 minutes ago I heard a thump on the roof of the home. I will go outside and look at the roof, sometimes a raven will drop something like maybe a mouse, or a snake. I baked today, I made cornbread and vegan meatloaf. It makes it worth the effort when I am happy with how the food turns out, and this turned out good.

He's baaaack! The skunk seems to stop by about once a week now. I haven't seen him yet, but I smell him.

It was empty the other day but we try to keep the bird feeder full. We have a couple of ravens that hang out around our yard sometimes, but thankfully they've never gotten anything or dropped it around here! Now a skunk is one animal that I'm perfectly happy NOT seeing or smelling! lol I'm glad you were happy with the way your food turned out. That reminds me... I have to figure out what I'm going to make for tonight....

I remember Chippy also! Whether the one now is the 'original' or a descendant, I'm sure you're enjoying him. Oh NO -- a skunk! Is that a photo you took of YOUR skunk, Anna, or one you found online? The little mini-bear is adorable!
Today would be my parents' 54th wedding anniversary. Please pray for my mother, as she is having a rough day. (It's been five weeks today that he was promoted to Heaven.) Breaks my heart for her, but there's not a thing anybody can do to make her feel better, besides asking God to comfort her.
The day Daddy died, or maybe it was the day after, she found where he had already bought her anniversary card for this year; he hadn't signed it yet, but he had purchased it, along with her Mother's Day card. He went into the hospital on Mother's Day, so I guess he forgot to give it to her, or was waiting until he got home and was feeling better. (He always bought beautiful, sentimental, appropriate cards, never silly ones.)
You know I told you about his diaries that he kept for so many years? He wrote the sweetest things about my mother. He just adored her. I have his 1993 journal box and on 6-17-93 one of the things he wrote was "Gave Margie her anniversary card. Because it sounded so appropriate, tears came to my eyes when I selected it at Eckerd's Tuesday." That's just one example & there are many others.
Oh well, thank you for indulging me while I talk a moment about my Daddy. Love you all and hope everyone has a nice weekend ahead.

Leigh, I love the stories about your father. Your Mom was very blessed to be loved by a man like that.
Next Thursday our carpets will be cleaned so I've been gradually moving furniture and stuff off carpeted areas. I've filled the pantry, linen closet, shelves above the washer and dryer and closet shelves with small stuff. It's really hot here so I don't want furniture to be in the garage a long time but early Thursday morning I'm going to put any furniture I can lift into the garage. The carpets really need to be cleaned and that will help with my allergies.
We went to our daughter's house and took them to lunch. They are having hardwood floors installed and right now every room is a mess. There is dust everywhere because her old floors were ceramic tile in many places and it caused a lot of dust when it was removed. She looked so tired and frazzled that I thought just getting away for even an hour would help her.
My daughter had moved all her houseplants to the patio when the flooring work started. The kids' pet rabbit Millie was moved to the patio too. Somehow she escaped from her cage but returned to it after she had a filling lunch of....houseplant salad. She ate them all!

Leigh I like what Margie said in that your mother was blessed to be loved by a man in the way your father loved her.
uh oh Margie, that rabbit made fast work of those house plants.
I once had a friend who's brother lived with her in an apartment. She encouraged her brother to make a tape recording of last words he would like to say before he died, while he was healthy. So he did. Shortly after that he died suddenly. A year later I asked her if she ever listened to the recorded message that her brother left to her and she said no.
Leigh the picture of the skunk was from photobucket. I hope to never get that close to a skunk.lol I do now have a cell phone that I can take pictures from and upload, but I never do. I probably should. I did have a few pictures on my computer but I noticed lately that they were gone, hum, don't know where they went. I had one picture that was so nice but I was not able to upload from the old cell phone. It was a picture of a horse near my home, a cloudy day, and one ray of light came through the clouds and shined down on the horse. It looked like the horse was being blessed by God. It was a nice picture but I lost the picture.
Something kind of odd today Cindy. Ron and I were driving in the car today near our home and Ron said to me, "There goes a chipmunk running in front of the car, did you see it?" I said no I was looking out the side window. I seldom see a chipmunk around here and I thought it was odd he said that since we were just talking about Chippy the chipmunk. You don't think Chippy moved to the southwest do you? lol

Our carpets will be cleaned on Thursday so I've been trying to get as much stuff as possible moved off carpets and onto hardwood floors. Our son came over yesterday and helped us.
I'm still cleaning out closets and will do more later this afternoon (after a nap!). I don't like to take things to the thrift store on Mondays because they are overwhelmed with people's unsold garage sale leftovers. I'll go later this week.
Really hot here, but it's officially summer today. Hugs to all.

I've been reading about your temps lately and here in Northern Oregon coast we continue with more or less normal temps for this time of year for the next 10 days forcasted to be in the low, mid and upper 60's only one day out of ten will break the pattern and reach 71 degrees.
And so on that note, I somehow managed to get a passel of 'tropical' plants this year ( I do have some more NW coastal plants from previous years).
For example I got ( new) a mini banana tree, mini mandarine orange, ( a mini lime from last year), a stevia plant, a lemon I started from a store bought lemon, a bunch of aloe plants, wisteria, etc.
Sooooooo every day, ( except when it pouring raining), I haul them all outside to sun.......and bring them back in if it gets a little cold or windy....but one day last week....
I wasn't able to bring them in until about 9pm or later that night.....
And every single one of those pampered prima donna whimpy plants looked like they were dying or dead!!
Soooooo I hauled them all in the house and stuch them by the gas heater.....
Next morning, they were all bright-eyed, and chipper in the nice cozy warm house!!! grrrrrr
Anyway, anybody want a bunch of annoying tropical plants ....it sounds like all of you have weather my prima donnas would like!
Just grumbling, I won't abandoned them....Its really a pain tho, to have to keep hauling them in and out 4 or 5 times a week!!! arrggghhh
I am hoping that maybe in July/Aug it might be warm enough they can stay outside some nights sigh! It will have to be at least 60 degrees at night, and right now the average night temp is between 50-53...not good enough for the whimpy plants!!!!

You have some cool plants Barbra, but that is a lot of work to baby them everyday. I have seen a mini banana tree before. I went over to Wayne the hermits place and the mini banana tree he had was indoors but the floor was dirt, the tree was healthy looking and one time he gave Ron and I a banana from the tree. Good news about Wayne the hermit, he became a Christian, he smiles more now and sometimes Ron goes over to his place and talks to him. I have an aloe plant and I keep it indoors. One year I grew garlic and that went well. The straw house girls grew a lot of garlic, about one acre or so, now they grow grapes.
Seven, one night I went outside in the dark to get my dog that was barking and bring him inside the home. What I did not see was that there was a javelina standing right next to my dog. The javelina just wanted to go to the dogs water bowl. But I didn't see the javelina until I almost grabbed a hold of it, was I ever surprised. Speaking of javelina, Christmas day 2014 I was chased by a javelina, I was running huffing and puffing, thinking I might have to climb a tree, but the javelina just gave a short chase to get me away from him.

Wonderful news about Wayne the hermit becoming a Christian!!! What in the world is a javelina? I've never even heard of that! We must not have them in South Carolina! Good seeing Barb and Seven in here!! Barb that is funny about your prima donna plants having to be hauled in and out every day. I can just picture you doing that! Margie, that was also funny about Millie rabbit eating all your daughter's houseplants. Boy I'll bet she was upset about that!! How did her new floors turn out? I'm sure they're beautiful, and what a sweet mother you are to take her out to eat and get her away from the dust. Cindy, praying you feel better soon (hopefully already - I prayed for you soon as I saw your post this morning). Barb, your cool days & nights sound like a dream!! We've finally had a few days of relief from the extreme heat. It was high 80s today, but the humidity was low and it didn't feel too bad. Last couple of weeks have been awful because even after the sun went down it was staying hot and humid. And it wasn't even officially summer yet! Columbia is known for the heat and humidity because this area is lower than the rest of the state (I've heard it said)... this area is like a huge bowl pushed into the ground that traps the heat. All I can say is thank the Lord for air conditioning!

That seems strange since I lived in Tucson for quite awhile, but I guess we just never came across any, or at least not to my knowledge. Since I was a child for most of the years I lived there, I suppose that's not too surprising, but I'd have thought I'd have at least heard of them by the time I lived there as an adult.... That must have been a really scary time for you!Wonderful news about Wayne the hermit becoming a Christian!!! What in the world is a javelina? I've never even heard of that! I guess it's the RA/Sjögren's, I just feel totally wiped out no matter how much sleep I get, and my eyes are hurting a lot again. But, like I said, I'll live. I can't believe the temps I've been seeing on the news lately. Talk about the weather going crazy, but that's how God works. I would hope that folks would begin to have a clue that He might not be too happy with us..... Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Barbara's temps LOL
I think I told you all recently that Bruce finally was able to get a new pair of glasses, right? Well, over the weekend he discovered that one of the lenses already had two scratches on it! So yesterday I called the place and asked it they'd fix them for free. Thankfully they said yes. When he came home from work, I was telling him about it when he told me that the other lens had also gotten a scratch on it that day! We couldn't believe it! He has treated those glasses like they were super fragile and has taken really good care of them. He doesn't even wear them at work, but instead puts them carefully into the case that came with the glasses. We tried to figure out what was causing the scratches and the only thing we could think of was the case itself. It seems the glasses are a bit too large for that case. It's crazy though, as i still wouldn't think even that should scratch them. I've had my glasses for probably at least 8 years now, I'm not careful at all with them, and they're not scratched at all! I've dropped them i don't know how many times..... so if anyone's glasses should have scratches, mine should, not his! I sure hope this doesn't continue once they fix them....

I too had to look up what a javelina ( a kind of wild pig), I don't think we have any of those here on the Northern Oregon coast..we don't even have mosquitoes LOL cuz the coastal wind must blow them all inland?
we do have lots of birds as this is a major migratory path for them.
Cindy: that is weird about Bruce's glasses, I treat mine the same way you do and nary a scratch... I can't tell you how many times I have dropped them on the floor.... ( sort like I dropped my cell phone on two different occasions into the toilet ( and on the floor, road etc more times than I can count and it keeps on working). I am so sorry to hear you still are not feeling well!! Does the weather affect your RA/Sjögren's?
Leigh: it is always wonderful to hear about someone becoming a Christian, what blessed news!!!
Seven: that is really scary about the heat ( and fires). I would probably curl up and die in that heat. Here on the Oregon coast the locals practically admit themselves to our little hospital if it reaches the 80's ( not really, but we all sure grumble long and loudly). Talk about my whimpy plants, we coastal folks are the exact opposite concerning heat! Do take care of yourself in that heat, it's no joke!!
Margie: If I had that pet rabbit and he or she ate my plants, they would be either rabbit stew or Welsh rabbit ( whatever that dish is?) for dinner :-( ( okay... not really... but I would have not been at all happy or amused!!)
Anna: my mini banana tree was like only 2 wee leaves when it arrived, it seems to be growing like a weed!! ( must love our gas heater....roll eyes)! But more than that....I 'think' it's trying to grow a second tree? I don't if that is even possible, but I noticed the other day, a new set of leaves apart from the main 'tree'. wierd.....I just read a little about how to care for them and the site said they are 'sissies' HA! all my tropical plants are! and I hate hot weather, what am I doing with these guys? Oh that's right, I do love 'tropical fruit'... I may have to get a mango ( my favorite!!) and an avacado...and and and I don't have enough room sigh!

Seven, what should the normal temperature of Alaska be this time of year? I heard that it was unusual in that Alaska mountains did not have snow on them this last winter, what about that, how is that effecting them? You must miss Alaska, not at all like CA.
Barbra I am glad you are happy with your tropical plants, it will be so nice to get fruit from those plants. I should look into buying mini fruit trees. Javelina's are cool animals. God created an animal that eats cactus, amazing.
The thermostat yesterday said that it was 94F in my bedroom in the afternoon. I do the best I can to cool the mobile home and do cool it down 10 degrees from the outside temperature.

from the steaming hot west coast! it was 103 yesterday! today it's only in the low 90's/high 80's. Ron and I were in Bakersfield over the weekend. It was warm up there also, but it's a dry heat, not humid like here. We were there for Ron's dad Buzz. He was inducted as President of California Nevada District Exchange Club! it's a nonprofit club that does fund raising to help all the different districts around, for youth services, community services, and prevention and treatment of child abuse. We left on Friday and made a whole weekend out of it. It was fun and very relaxing. Ron's dad was ecstatic to have his kids there, Ron, Darrell and Lisa and us spouse's. there was a dinner and breakfast to welcome the change of arms within the different exchanges...it was fun. we were not unplugged! we had the internet, I was on my Ipad and Ron had a laptop..so I was reading and surfing while I was there, relaxing in our hotel room. wow Barbra, you work your butt off moving them plants around. but it sounds like something Ron and I would do. Cindy, I remember you talking about Chippy....Pray he finds a play mate in one of the new furbabys! that would be fun to see pictures of! to you all!

They tell everybody stay inside we have little brownout in my area there some in SO CAL that still out power because of demand of power supply because of the heat I've heard there's a lot of that going around there.... I hope you can stay cool! Since we never really had winter this past year, I'm already ready for it lolI too had to look up what a javelina ( a kind of wild pig), I don't think we have any of those here on the Northern Oregon coast..we don't even have mosquitoes LOL cuz the coastal wind must blow them all inland?

Yeah, it is weird about his glasses, but at least they'll replace them. But that means he will have to go without them for a couple of weeks....and that's not good either. We're thinking of getting some from Zenni online if only so he'll have something to wear while his are fixed.Yeah this weird especially end of June I don't remember this hot Even my Alaskan uncle telling me Fairbanks got into 90s last night he and my auntie went to Fairbanks baseball team Alaskan goldminers infamous Midnight game that start at 10pm Alaska time doesn't end until 12:30am Alaska time on longest day of year first day I been to couple of the year some of most famous Baseball player play for Alaskan goldminers including future Hall of Famers George Brett Tom Seaver I would think those temps are very unusual for Alaska too!Seven, what should the normal temperature of Alaska be this time of year? OK, I'm confused....I thought Ron's brother's name was Robert....but it's Darrell? Or is that another one? Bruce saw a reply to one of Ron's posts on facebook and asked me who Darrell was last night lol, and I had to say I didn't know cause I thought his brother's name was Robert... Oh well, not unusual for me to be wrong. I'm still praying for him though...but do tell me if I have the name wrong ok? I'm glad you all had a good time there. That's great Ron's dad was honored that way too! Sounds like a great club!
Chippy 2 is sure friendly, like his dad. He lets us get up close to him, and so do some of the younger squirrels. Gracie named one of them, Chubby, and he's quite sociable LOL Not to mention quite loud when the feeder is empty and he wants food!

Hi everyone for staying cool today. I just finished 4 hours of work in the garage, nice to be inside with clean clothes and to rest. I have a Bible study from two days ago that I need to listen to as I lost connection during the talk. DH downloaded to a disc for me as I do not know how to download to a disc. So I go listen to that, love to learn from the Bible, the Bible study is fun.

Seven: Wow! It's waaay hotter in Alaska then here where I live: right now at 11:30 it's 64 degrees. Anna: I am beginning to 'warm' up to your javalina, if it eats cactus, which I don't care for ( at least that's one tropical plant I don't have to baby!!)!. Lulu: 103 that's not great either!! Try to stay cool somehow...drink lots of fluid.
Did I mention I am trying to grow turmeric? Well yesterday, I was grating a piece for some tea and forgot to put on some plastic gloves, now I have 'lovely'(not) colored hands and nails LOL! I went for a short walk yesterday, and had to walk hiding my hands (roll eyes) sigh!
I almost killed our (almost 21 year old ) cat last night. Not on purpose ( tho there are times it crosses my mind HA!) Anyway, Leonard didn't feel like cooking so went to Mc Donald's. He brought be back a hamburger(but with 2 hamburger patties inside), with lettuce, tomato, and cheese.
I am not fond of cheese on my hamburgers ( tho Leonard is), plus I don't need to eat two patties......
So Sinbad (the person who left him here....about 10 plus years ago, had named him ).....loves cheese and hamburger.
Not paying attention, I gave Sinbad a BIG BIG BIG piece..... only..... it got caught on his long tooth, and I think, the main portion of it was hanging to the back down his throat.
The poor cat was having fits trying to dislodge it....
finally I did a sort of Heimlich maneuver on him.....it didn't seem ( at first) to do any good, so I kept squeezing the poor cat, until he was so disgusted with me he tore himself away......
But about a minute later we could hear him chomping away....and then he wanted out!!! Away from me no doubt!!
Needless to say, I will be more careful in the future!
