cept, I'm surrounded by sick people.....drinking my honey tea... oh no Lulu! I sure hope you didn't get it to badly... I know you said you were starting to, but hopefully you didn't get any worse. Oh no Lulu..... stay well!!!!! I saw it on TV and sure hope you're doing ok and don't lose your electricity or anything!wow, I remember winters like that when I was little, only in Mass.... I kinda miss it.... it's been a nice day here...it was suppose to rain, it was overcast most the day, but never did rain. it's been a nice day just hanging out and doing errands with the ol'man and Boy, doing laundry...now kicking back watching an old movie... Glad you're having a nice relaxing day Lulu. Hopefully that will keep you from getting sick too!Praise God James! Be careful shoveling though, ok? Lulu, LOVE the graphic!! Sounds like you had a nice day with Ron. What was the old movie you watched? James, wow, I don't really envy you right now! Thanks for the link on your weather conditions. (I just sent a FB message to a friend in PA, "Got snow?" ) I guess you still have electricity? We live just below the line where it all stopped, so we have nothing here but cold, COLD weather -- way too much for a Southern girl. Cindy, same snowy conditions at your house, I'm sure. At least Bruce has a snow mobile so guess he's able to get out, but I hope you're staying in and turning up the heat! Margie, sounds like your daughter's family got home from NYC just in the nick of time! Glad to hear you don't have snow/ice where you live. Keep warm! Anna, hope your Ron is feeling better with his dizziness - that is no fun. Did you buy your denim dresses online? If so, do you have a good source for clothes, or do you get them from various places? Where you live, there might not be too many places to shop! I saw a recipe online the other day that looked good, so am trying it out today for Sunday lunch, for chicken gumbo. It's one of those that I thought would only take 15 minutes to mix up and it ended up taking an hour -- starting at 10:30 last night! But it's will be hot and ready in the crockpot when we get home from church today, so that will be nice. Oh my, look at the time -- better start getting ready for church! No, we didn't get more then a few flakes of snow out of it. Bruce and all the snow lovers are heart broken Looks like we're having a winter like the one when Jenn was only 5 years old. We got her ski's for Christmas and didn't get any snow that year so she never was able to use them, lol. I told Bruce that if he hadn't gotten the snow mobile, we probably would have gotten lots of snow this year, so it's all his fault.

I should buy another crock pot, it has been years since I have owned one, but I know food does taste good when cooked in one. Leigh when you said you were making chicken gumbo in a crock pot it reminded me of a video that I watch not long ago on you-tube, a woman from the New Orleans area was making a large pot of seafood gumbo, and all looked fine until I saw her add 2 cups of vegetable oil to the pot also. I thought to myself that is unhealthy, why add the oil at all. I have been lucky doing on-line clothes shopping in that everything I bought fits good, even the shoes. I am just now going to start to do on-line shopping by myself, up until now I had Ron do it for me, but he is complaining about ordering women's dresses in his name. ttyl

Leigh, my daughter and her family did return just in time. They were cold but had a great time. Her oldest son had a wrestling match on Saturday morning and we went to watch him. He had one bye, won one match and lost the last match.
Hubby is watching football and already talking about the Super Bowl.
Much warmer today and lots of sunshine. Hope everyone has a good week. Hugs.

It's the opposite for me. I've shopped online for everything for years, and whenever Bruce wants something, He has me buy it for him. It's pretty weird for me to order tools, or parts for a Harley or tires for a car or other stuff like that, and then of course I wind up getting emails from those companies about their sales, which I'm not in the least interested in, but Bruce is. I've tried to get him to let me show him how to do it, but he doesn't want to so always comes up with some excuse or another. Leigh, my daughter and her family did return just in time. We had another wonderful Sunday. Jenn and Bob came over with their kids and had Alissa with them again! It was great! In all the excitement and gathering up of belongings when it was time for them to leave though, Jenn wound up leaving her car keys here. So Bob had to bring her back over here this morning to pick them up so she'd be able to go to work this afternoon. I thought it was kind of funny because we'd been teasing Alissa just before they left as she'd "forgotten" a few things at Jenn's house, so wanted to go there before being taken home so she could get them. We were teasing her saying she really left them there on purpose so she'd get to stay with them a little longer, so when they got home and realized Jenn had forgotten her keys I couldn't help but tease her about it.

That's funny Cindy! I lose things all the time, so I can sympathize with Jenn... although she didn't actually lose her keys, she just left them at your house.
I couldn't believe you didn't get snow from the storm Cindy! I just figured it covered all of New England. I need to call and check on my sister in Virginia. Her children were out of school on Friday due to the snow, and they're probably still snowed in.

Leigh, it's possible that your sister may be snowed in still. We have people here in eastern PA that still can't get out because their streets are not plowed, they are closing area down so they can clean up the snow. School is still closed in our area and may open tomorrow if they can clear out the snow around the school buses. I was happy to clear out the driveway yesterday and get to the highway. Had someone come and plow the end of our driveway, I probably would still be shoveling. Have a snow blower but not to good when there is 4 foot of snowed piled up from the plow. I thank God and my Lord for the protection they has given me and my family through this storm. Praise His Holy name.

Hi James - well my sister was snowed in but, despite being so sick with bronchitis for the last couple of months, she shoveled off her driveway yesterday (with the help of her sons then a friend who came along). She said she's so tired of being stuck indoors & was ready to do ANYthing to get out! Thankful to hear you & your family are still fine and that you got your driveway cleared too. Hopefully everyone will be able to return to school tomorrow, because after a couple of days, being home does get old! My sister's kids are out today again too; she lives in a mountain town and it's still too risky to have the buses out there.
Lulu, we missed you yesterday! Hope you are able to drink your hot tea and stave off the sickness. Do you ever take zinc lozenges when you feel a cold coming on? It does help if you start it soon enough, but they taste nasty.
Well, need to get up and dressed. I have a man coming in awhile to give us a quote on taking down some trees in our back yard. Also I'm still working on my January project -- redoing the bathroom vanity cabinets, which I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Still have about 1/3 of it to go, but hope to be all done by February 1st.

Good day! Ron is feeling better now, not dizzy anymore. He made an appointment to see a chiropractor, a nice guy he has known for years so that helped him. Art gave us a like new chair that was in his mountain cabin when he bought it last summer. He gave away the chair because the color does not match the rest of his furniture. The chair has a yellow orange flower pattern on the burlap like material. So that was good, glad to get a like new sturdy chair. Art also gave us some tomato plants to start growing and then to replant in a larger container. I have almost given up on growing plants, I don't do so well and birds and mice kill off the plants, but I will try again to grow a few plants this spring. Actually I have started to disassembling some of the outdoors metal rack that holds container plant. The smaller part which I do not use anyways, I am going to put it in the home on the wall and use it for a spice rack.

A lot of places that never see snow, got it, and others got more then they ever have, and places that always get it, didn't! I'm sure all the kids are enjoying the snow where you sister is though! On our local news station they compared the places that got the most snow with what we got from the storm exactly one year ago and it was the same! That was really strange!Leigh, it's possible that your sister may be snowed in still. Bruce wound up with a migraine this morning, so he's home for the day. I always feel so badly for anyone who gets a migraine. those are so nasty!
Oh, I didn't tell you, but Jenn and Bob were able to finally get a kitten, so they and the kids are really enjoying her. Now when Jenn calls, I not only get updates on each child, but also on the kitten LOL. Her name is Ariel and she's already got every one of them wrapped around her little paw!

Yes Cindy, I do remember you talking about your winter last year and was happy all went well for you and Bruce.
Leigh, hope your sister gets over her bronchitis, sure has been hanging on for some time. Sounds as if she can get out now. We still have some school districts closed, mainly the cities, rural has a 2 hour delay.
Big day today, wife and I are going out for the first time since last Friday, do a little food shopping. Maybe get some pizza. (:
Hope everyone has a great day.

I've lived in so many different places with different climates. For me this is almost perfect. The only part I don't like is when there's ice on the roads lol. Now that I don't have to drive anywhere though, it's no big deal.
I got a book recently that's called The Walk of Repentance, by S. Gallagher. It says it's a study about repentance: what it is, what kind of behavior and attitude we must repent of, and what it brings about—victory, abiding joy, and inner peace. It says it's written so it can be done in a Sunday School (for adults) or a small group. I'll post more about it in the Group Bible Studies forum if anyone's interested in getting the book. The Walk of Repentance.

Using Kel's "fly-by" to say hello and goodbye. It's Precept class day and it's my turn to take the snacks, so have to finish getting everything ready to go: homemade coffee cake, yogurt & granola, cheese & crackers tray, and orange slices.
Talk to you later.

Cindy, those cookies sound good. If you get a chance and feel up to it, would you mind sharing the recipe?
Lulu, so glad that you get to spend some time with Jazzy tonight & Sunday afternoon. Enjoy yourselves.
Well we have had a crew of men in our back yard today, cutting down first a Bradford Pear tree that has taken over the center of the yard... not very tall but very round and wide. It's so big that it shades the grass and keeps it from growing, but now the tree is gone and we are going to put a fire pit where the tree stood, and work on getting the grass green and growing and pretty again (in the summer) like it was when we first moved here. But the main tree that we wanted to have down is a huge pine. They have to come back tomorrow morning and finish. I posted a photo on FB of the man who was up in that one. Boy I was praying for him today! The higher he got, cutting off those huge branches as he went, the more the tree shook. I had a fear it would snap and he'd go down with it. He's still got to go finish that high, dangerous part tomorrow so please keep the him in your prayers, and the men underneath him on the ground.

Sure, I'll be happy to Lorrie. I'll try to get to it tomorrow, but if not, then Monday ok? Remind me if I forget though! I wasn't able to make that one as I didn't have one of the ingredients, so I made another variation of them, and they turned out good too. I'll give you both recipes if you want. I've got to run today though as we have to do the shopping.
Hope you're all having a great day! Love you!

That is great Cindy, but only if you feel like it; I don't want to cause any additional stress for you! Have fun shopping. Well, the tree men are here and are almost finished. I missed seeing the huge pine tree come down, but fortunately, my neighbor videoed it and texted it to me. I did HEAR it, however, and FEEL it... it was like an earthquake. Thankful that this was done by a professional and not by a lightning strike, or ice, because something that big and heavy would've smashed in our house, or the neighbor's house, along with any living creatures in the vicinity. Still painting the vanity cabinets, but hope to be through in a few days. Not that it takes that long to do, but the drying time between coats, etc. takes awhile. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello I remember once when my parents hired a group of Mexican guys to take down some trees, they were called the singing Mexicans. They would all sing while they worked. What a good job they did at taking down those trees. Bucky is not getting the horse riding business in this area anymore like he used to, because the resort he used to go to in the mountains is closed down, they ran out of water and water there is to deep to drill down for more. So he is in Phoenix by himself with some horses at a park. He stands there with some horses and waits for people to see the horses and then want rides. That must be working out for him, he has been there for a month now, and his wife still give some rides around here. They have a son but they don't have him work, they want him to study for his education. Since he is home schooled by his mother a teacher by profession, he is already in college studies. Anyways he was home for a few days as every so often he get kidney stones. That has been going on for years. He went to a near by hospital but they flew him out to a hospital near the border. He was there in the hospital a day or so and now is back in Phoenix. The way those horses startle so easily, jump and kick, I don't know how he does it having those horses around adults and children that don't know that horses get startled easily. ttyl

They've been asking me for that sand art stuff for awhile now, so I figured now was as good a time as any to get it. They'll be over later today. Bruce got a large package of frozen lasagna for us all to have for supper tonight.
Have a good day everyone!

Hey everybody, just got online at 10:00 tonight for the first time since early this morning. My cousin came into town and met us at church, came home and had lunch here with John & me, then we all went to hear her daughter, and our Daniel, in the SC Baptist AllState Choir concert. Her daughter sang with the choir, and Daniel played his guitar in the praise band. It was a great concert and they did an awesome job. Came home for awhile, visited with Timothy (who came over to eat leftovers), then John and I met our church friends for Sunday night supper, then after that, home to watch Downton Abbey. Sleepy now!

Sounds like you had a great day! We did too of course, with the kids coming over. OK, here's the recipes I told you about:
Strawberry-Cream Cheese Thumbprints
1 (18.25 oz package) white cake mix 1 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, softened 1 (3 oz) package cream cheese, softened 2 large egg yolks 1 teaspoon almond extract 2/3rds cup strawberry jam, stirred to loosen (I used preserves)
Preheat oven to 350 F. Position oven rack to upper third of the oven. Set aside two ungreased cookie sheets.
Place the cake mix, flour, softened butter, and cream cheese in a large bowl. Blend for 1-2 minutes with an electric mixer set on low speed until mixture is blended and resembles fresh bread crumbs. Add the egg yolks and almond extract; beat on low speed for 1 - 2 minutes longer until the dough comes together into a ball.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls and position 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Push an indentation into the center of each cookie with your thumb, the back of a rounded 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon, or a cork. Fill each indentation with 1/4 teaspoon jam. (or preserves)
Bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until firm to the touch at the edges and slightly puffed in appearance. Cool for 1 minute on cookie sheets. transfer to wire racks with metal spatula and cool completely. (I used a plastic spatula). Makes about 42 cookies.
I didn't bother to measure how much preserve I put into each indentation, I just stuck some in each so it was filled Everyone really loved them, Bruce, my kids, grandkids, and all the guys at Bruce's work too!
Ok, on the second batch I made, I just kinda made up what I wanted based on this recipe since I didn't have the right ingredients left for the first one I made and didn't have some of what was needed for this one either ... you'll see what I mean
Cherry Chocolate Thumbprints:
1/3 cup sugar 1 and a half teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 (16.5 oz) roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough, well chilled 1/3 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (I used regular chocolate chips, not the mini ones) 1/2 cup cherry preserves (I used strawberry preserves again)
Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray cookie sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Cut cookie dough into 12 equal slices. Cut each slice in half. Roll each piece into a ball. (you don't have to worry about cutting it into equal slices if you don't want to. I just cut it into slices and since I was already aware of how large the balls have to be, just grabbed enough dough out of each slice or from a couple of them, - whatever I needed to make a 1 inch ball.)
Roll each ball in sugar mixture. Place balls 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden at edges. Remove cookies from oven and immediately make a depression in each cookie with thumb or cork. Fill each with 1/2 teaspoon of miniature chocolate chips. Return to oven for 30 seconds.
Remove from oven and place a teaspoon of preserves on top of chocolate filling. Transfer to wire racks and cool completely.
I filled my first batch with just the strawberry preserves and they came out great!
I did the next batch with ordinary Nestles chocolate chips. I put about 4 chips in the depression of each cookie. But since I knew it would take longer then 30 seconds to get those soft, I pulled the cookies out of the oven after they'd been cooking for 8 and a half to 9 minutes, added the chips, then put them back in the oven for the last 2 and a half minutes of cooking time. I did NOT put any preserves on top of them though as I was making them for hubby and knew he's like them better without the preserves. They turned out really great too, and everyone's loved both kinds!
I was going to do a final batch with both the chocolate chips and the preserves but just wasn't up to doing anymore so couldn't that day. I'm sure they would have been good too though.
Obviously there's no reason you can't use just about anything for your filling of any of the thumbprints. I find that jam or preserves works much better then jelly does, so when we went shopping this weekend, i bought some peach preserves and some cherry preserves so I could make some with those next time. You could also use peanut butter if you wanted to or just whatever suits your fancy. I wonder if marshmallow fluff would work.... won't know till I try it huh? the only thing you have to take into consideration is if what you want to use will go with the ingredients that are all ready in the cookie - like the cream cheese in the first one or the cinnamon in the second one. I didn't think Bruce would like the first ones I made as he hates cream cheese, but I did finally manage to get him to "just taste" one. It was really funny watching his face because he was so very obviously surprised that he liked them! I was too, because normally he won't touch something if he knows it has certain ingredients like cream cheese in it. I know he really did like them too as he must have eaten at least 10 of them that same night!
It's strange but I hate to cook, and yet I love to bake! Guess it just shows how really weird I am.
I felt both of these recipes were really easy, and if they were easy for me that means they'd be super easy for someone who actually knows what they're doing in a kitchen! Well, have fun with it, and let me know if you make them ok?

Hello! Since I was wanting to bake some cookies I decided to make thumbprint cookies. I just made ingredients for a sugar cookie because I can just make that from scratch with out a recipe and then I added Nutella ( chocolate hazelnut spread) in the center of each cookie before baking, and it turned out good. I like cookies, I don't bake cakes though, sometimes I buy a baked cake from the store and they taste good.
Leigh, that must have been fun to go to the Allstate Choir concert with you cousin especially when her daughter sang and your son played the guitar.
I hope drinking your tea is working out well for you Lulu, that you and DH are feeling well.
Hi Margie, I usually do one of two loads of laundry a day, always hanging the clothes outside on the clothes line, I don't have a dryer. I have one of those water saver washing machines. When I bought the washing machine on sale I did not know it was a water saver machine, so before the wash cycle and the rinse cycle I carry a bucket of water to the washing machine and dump that water in there so there is enough water to wash the clothes. Where I live I don't need to be stingy on the amount of water that goes into the washing machine. Good day Cindy, the recipe you printed out for thumbprint cookies looks like a good one to save. Strawberry and cream cheese drop would be good. I'm glad you are baking cookies for Bruce, since he likes cookies so much, so do I, but Ron not that much, once and a while.

Good morning ladies! I'm glad you both liked the recipes. I'm sure my grandkids would like the way you made them Anna, but not Bruce. He doesn't like Nutella for some reason.
He hurt his shoulder, or else it's the RA, not sure yet. He's at the docs right now to get checked out. I hope they can help him.
Well I'd better get busy posting while I have time!
