That is good that your family agreed to reschedule the family reunion. I know of a woman that used to drive through a creek when the rains came. Once I was there at the creek when she did that, I actually was video taping the creek, so I got her in the video. Then one day her van was washed away by the water and she died. I used to wade in that creek with one of my dogs, but I don't go there anymore. I printed out some recipes from the chicken in the road website. Grandmother's cornbread cake, I always make muffins instead, that recipe is a keeper and also homemade egg noodles, that recipe I like, it is fun to make the noodles and easy. I also made the sausage, apple and cranberry stuffing, which is good and I just today made the cranberry pineapple salad, so I haven't tried that yet, but I will probably like it. I have more recipes printed out and will be making them soon also. I bought a new shower curtain and cleaned the shower tub and walls with a cleaner that cleans the bottom of fiberglass boats. That stuff worked well, it was an easy clean up, but the fumes were strong, so I had to just clean one section at a time and leave the room until it aired out for ten minutes. bye for now, Anna

Oh how terrible Anna, I am so sorry about your friend. No wonder you don't want to go back to that creek! So far it hasn't been too bad here. It has been raining steadily ~ actually it's been raining almost daily for 2 weeks now so the ground is saturated ~ but not torrentially as they said yesterday. Over on the coast though, it's a different story; Charleston is flooded pretty badly.
I'm glad you mentioned the Chickens in the Road website; I haven't been there in awhile. I visit too many blogs to keep up with & always forget some. Sounds like you've found some great recipes there! Let us know how the cranberry pineapple salad turns out; it sounds delicious! I'd love to try making the egg noodles, especially since you say they're easy. I just bought a bag of egg noodles today. For today, I've got some dried black eyed peas cooking on the stove with ham bits and it smells SO good; we're having Hoppin' Johns for supper.
Hello to everyone else and hope you're all having a nice (dry!) weekend. Lulu, is this a Jazzy weekend? Cindy, do you have any children/grands visiting? Did you get your phone calls made so your doctor can order your bed? (What kind of bed?) Margie, I know you had fun visiting with your son's family last week.

Please be praying for Cheryl's husband Ed. I am going to copy here what she posted on FB:
I have something weighing heavily on me, and need to ask for prayer again, for my husband. I drove him to the ER, on Friday afternoon and he is still in the hospital. The news we got is not good news and now I know, as I've always known beyond a shadow of doubt that the Lord is the only reason why the love of my life is still alive. Your prayers are heard, and I'm asking for more of the same, if you will, please. They kept him last night for observation in the CCU. Today, they moved him out of CCU and disconnected his nitroglycerin and saline, and have stopped giving him the morphine. The cardiologist increased his meds that keep his arteries expanded for blood flow. He is being monitored by a portable heart monitor only. They want him to walk, so we walked several times, throughout the day, but he can only get about a hundred yards and has to get back to his room, because he cannot breathe. The doc wants to see how he does, overnight and will talk to us in the morning. PLEASE SEND OUT A PRAYER CHAIN FOR HIM. Please?

Leigh, Will keep your husband in my prayers. James, this is Cheryl's husband, Ed. Thank you for praying for him! I will update when I hear anything more.
Well, South Carolina is flooded all around. Our church has just cancelled services for the morning, and they almost NEVER cancel. I am thankful to still have power this morning and to live on a hill so we're not flooded (yet). We're watching the local news and people are stranded all over Columbia; 911 is swamped with calls, and somebody reportedly just saw a copperhead float down the road.

Hi Leigh, saying prayers for Cheryl and Ed. Eeewww, a copperhead snake floating on the water. This summer I had a pretty color black and gold garter snake living here outside. I tried to encourage the snake to stay around as it was a friendly snake but the snakes come and go and I think the dogs made it want to leave. I almost never say a curse word but I do before I know it when I am startled by seeing a snake. I think that is because they camouflage so well with the environment around them. Keep us updated on the weather and floods there in SC, as it is more interesting to hear about the weather there from someone that lives there. I am glad you are staying home in your house and I wonder if the area will lose electricity.

I saw on the news last night the weather in SC, mudslides, sinkholes and bridges out because of the flood, wow what a flood of water they are getting. Cindy, do you still use that coffee mug warmer that you said you bought a year or so ago? I am thinking about buying one of those.

Anna, it is so bad here! Thankfully we are fine at our house & neighborhood, but it is a mess all over the city. And that's just here in Columbia; I haven't even kept up with what's happening over on the coast & know it's as bad or worse there.
So grateful that we have not lost our electricity (yet), as many people have. The biggest inconvenience for us is having to boil our drinking, cooking, & dishwashing water. We can use tap water for bathing. Yesterday they were saying not to use appliances so I haven't run those yet. (They just said on TV we can do laundry as usual - yay!)
Some of our friends have had to evacuate their homes. Just this morning one friend whose elderly mother and MIL both live with her & her DH had to leave due to flooding. The elderly moms had to be lifted & carried out and put into boats and boated away. Another young couple from church had to be boated to safety yesterday. And the brother of that couple (the husband's brother) lives in their neighborhood and his house is covered in water almost to the top of the garage doors.
Another friend from church (Daniel's Sunday School teacher) was sick yesterday; friends from church were able to get to his house, pick him up and take him to the ER where he was diagnosed with appendicitis. The surgeon had trouble getting to the hospital because all the roads were flooded out, but he got there late in the day and was able to operate just in time before the appendix ruptured. Thank You Lord!
I am waiting to hear back from another friend who lives along a river that was rising. They were unable to drive away, so if it got bad enough was going to put the pets in crates and walk to safety, but I'm concerned because she's disabled and that just sounded dangerous to me.
So far, nine fatalities around the state.
Forgive me for not posting Cheryl's update on Ed. Here is what she posted (in red) yesterday afternoon:
We are home, finally. We didn't get out of there, until after 1pm. Ed is happy to be home and so am I. We just didn't know what was going to happen, and really still don't. I just know that the Lord is in control, and Ed is in His hands. Thank you, EVERYONE for your prayers!!!!
He is sitting outside on the front porch, right now. I think he missed that most of all. And his birds and squirrels. Yes, squirrels. He's been watching them, so much lately, he's starting to name them. LOL

Hi Leigh! It is good that you live on top of a hill, but your friends sure are having problems because of the flood water.
Cheryl does not come to this site anymore, I don't know why, because she is a Christian and we are Christians here. I think she was often the life of the party so to speak. Well things are changing fast, maybe we will be raptured or else maybe we will lose freedom of speech soon as this country is changing and so are other countries. Right now it seems I can look at what is happening in Germany and see what might be a pattern of what will soon happen in America.

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been around. I'm so sorry it's been so bad where you are Lorrie! It sounds just awful!
Yes, Anna, I still have the coffee warmer, and in fact am using it now lol. I use it every day.
Bruce and I had Elijah and Grace all day Saturday. We had to go shopping too so wound up taking them out for pizza, then let them wander around Tractor Supply. They went nuts in there lol. Gracie wanted just about everything she saw, and Elijah found lots he wanted too. It's great because I know just what to get them for their birthdays and Christmas! Then it was on to Wal-Mart and Hanaford's. When we got home, they played outside till dinner time. I thought they would be all worn out, but no, they still had plenty of energy, lol, but I didn't!. Jenn and Bob got back about 6:30 with their new car. God really blessed them with a fantastic deal on a great car! I'm so grateful to Him! It's amazing how He worked everything out for them, and answered every prayer. I really enjoyed the kids; and watching Bruce play with them too. It totally wiped out now though, and I've been doing nothing but recuperating ever since.
As far as the bed goes, the doctor is ordering me an adjustable tempurpedic bed, at least, that's what I think it is lol.
Well, I guess I'd better get going, or I won't get anything done today either. It's been so cold that everyone's had to turn on their heat already. It's been down to 32 and that's where we draw the line. I sure hope we get at least a couple days of fall before winter comes to stay.

Hi Leigh I was looking at pictures of the flood water there in SC, even Mallard ducks were gathered together and floating on a small piece of wood. lol what is with those ducks? Maybe the water is polluted from the sewers. I would imagine the dams are old and just get patched up when in need of repair. It is always good for people to have some extra food and water stored up at their home in case of an emergency. It seems the first thing people look for is drinking water. I lived in Key Largo FL when hurricane Andrew hit Homestead. What a mess it was from the wind and rain.
Good morning Cindy! Good to read that Jenn and her husband got a good deal on a new car. I hope you are feeling rested today. How are your cats doing? Wasn't one of them sick for a few days? I have been bird watching lately and enjoying that, also there are many rabbits around to watch, often even in my yard near the trailer.

Good morning all!
Angel's been having trouble breathing for the last couple of months and has been on prednisone. She's getting old and the vet thinks we may have to keep her on it for good. We will see....
Jenn's got a job at a near by grocery store during mothers hours, but forgot the kids have Friday off of school, so I lucked out cause she has to work so I get the kiddos!
The insurance company called me about the bed to find out what firmness I wanted in the tempurpedic mattress. I had to tell them that I had no idea as I've never even seen one, but that on a regualar mattress I needed a medium firm. So I hope that helps them some. I'm getting excited about getting it! I can hardly believe it's happening - what a blessing it's going to be!

I'm sure looking forward to both! In fact, about the bed, I really want to write an article about that for others who live with back pain and may not know that they may be able to relieve a great deal of their pain this way. So I'm going to go try and write something for them now.

On my way to bed but I wanted to pop in and say hello (or in this case, good night!) to you all and apologize for not posting in a couple of days. It's been a busy week and school ended up being cancelled the entire week due to the flooding here in SC. We are still having to boil our water, but I'm just grateful we never lost it (running water -- many did), or power. I will try and write more tomorrow, and Margie, thanks so much for the message and I'll try and write you too!

I'm so glad you didn't lose your power or water either Lorrie. I know what a blessing that is. I've got to get ready, or rather finish getting ready for the kids as they'll be here shortly. It's going to be a fun day! But first I want to check some of the posts!

Hi Leigh! I made that cranberry pineapple salad. It was good, but it was very sugary. The ingredients were pineapple, apple, raspberry flavored gelatin, whole berry cranberry sauce, and chopped walnuts. Well I am off now to go do some work in the garage, my old clothes will be getting all dirty from the work. We are putting new axles in the truck as the old one was worn out dripping oil onto one of the brakes, thus causing the brake not to be able to work. This is day number 3 of working with that and today I will be finished working in the garage in 2 hours.

Good to see you Leonard! I had a blast with the kids yesterday. We played and make two different kinds of cookies, and then played some more. Then Bruce got home and then Jenn did. Bruce was sweet and make pizza for everyone for supper as by then I was wiped out LOL
I've got to get going today and get some work done in the yard as it's a fairly decent day if a bit cold still. I have a feeling we're going to skip fall like we skipped spring earlier this year.

104 degrees.... it's been a nice saturday thus far...Ron and I have spent the morning together running errands, now we are home and weathering the heat... Cindy glad you had a good time with the grandkids...I sure miss Jazzy when she's not around...I'm looking forward to halloween as she well be here...it's always a fun time with the kids.... Some of you might remember why Ron and I left our old church, well, since then it's really become fractured with-in. the person behind the pulped has been become very proud and dishonest with it's members, pulling some really wicked things with out the members knowledge, involving a lawyer and such...a lot of the people are starting to see the light though and things are gonna be happen here soon...Ron and I will attend the next business meeting (I think, still praying about that) as we are still members, so if you could please hold our old little church up in prayer. the person behind the pulped needs to repent or leave...I call him that cause he's not a pastor in good standing with the Lord or His bride, and he's lost his first love. our new church is a blessing, our Pastor and his wife we've know for over 20 years now...we are plugged in and having fun again with a church family....BBQing and womans retreats....new friends...

It's warm here today. I was going to sit outside and work the crossword puzzle but it's too warm. Stayed in and had a bowl of ice cream instead!
I've been cleaning. Lots of dust. I took Benadryl last night but I'm still congested.
Hope everyone has a good week. Hugs to all.

Morning everyone! Well I never got back in here all weekend to post (I'd said I'd do that, sorry ).
We had more rain all day Saturday and flash flood warnings again. This time both my boys were out driving in it so I was doing a lot of praying! Daniel was driving home early Saturday morning from his friend's house where he'd spent the night, and of course, Daniel is just 16 and has only been driving on his own for a few months. His friend lives about 10 miles away and the bottom fell out during the time he was on his way home. BOY was I thankful to see that little white car coming around the curve of our street!! (Yes I was watching for him out the window!)
Timothy had to drive on Saturday to another town to work at a Starbucks (because the one he works at here was closed all week due to the boil water restrictions) and he was also in the deluge. His driver-side windshield flew off his car on the interstate. Thank God for His protection!!
I'm not sure what the final count is on people who died here in the flooding last week, but I think it was 9 or 10 who were found drowned in their cars because they were caught in the rising waters and couldn't get out. One young girl (about 24) that I'd heard about on TV, my neighbor later told me is the girlfriend of her son's friend. She had been sick all night on Saturday before the flood on Sunday and had driven herself to the ER early Sunday morning, just at the time when they were warning people to stay off the roads. She was checked out at the ER and released and was driving home but it was so early she couldn't see the roads were flooded. She called a friend in a panic, lost the signal, then her body was found in her car a few hours later. Saddest story I heard all week. BUT, there were also many stories of protection. I watched one interview on the news of an elderly Canadian man driving down I-95 to Florida with his little dog. They closed I-95 and he had to take a detour through the back roads of South Carolina, got lost, got stranded in rising water, and a husband, wife, and their adult sons just happened to see his car from a distance, saw his hand wave out the window, and the husband held onto tree leaves and waded through rushing waters out to rescue the man - told him to leave the little dog (he wouldn't) - and he barely was able to pull the elderly man and dog to safety. The wife and sons had to form a human chain there at the end because his strength had run out and he couldn't hold them any more - but they all survived! THAT was an amazing story.
Then there was the grandmother who got caught on her way to church last week and I guess was swept out of her car, caught hold of a cross, and hung onto it for several hours before she was rescued! She was really giving the glory to God for that!!
Those were some of the extreme stories, but mostly there was just a lot of property damage and loss. It has been wonderful to see how the community pulled together to help flood victims. Someone started a Facebook page, and just about as soon as someone put up a need, it was filled within minutes. Shelters were opened all around and people have volunteered in all kinds of ways -- clean-up, fixing food, buying supplies, passing out water, collecting money -- you name it, they've done it. I went to a benefit concert by Keith and Kristen Getty last night (WOW if you ever get the chance to see them, take it!!) at First Baptist Columbia. A few church members got together to pay the concert expenses so that it would be free to attend, then they took up a love offering to go towards housing people who've lost their homes in the floods, AND the Gettys donated all proceeds from Christmas CDs sold last night to the cause.
So, I've been wanting to tell all my friends here at FH about it. (And now I did! ) School started back today after a week off, so I guess things are getting back to normal for those of us who didn't have any damage. For those who did, there is still a lot of work ahead.
Love to everyone here.

Writing from my kindle... my computer is broken. I've been trying to fix it for 2 days to no avail. I don't know why it won't work...it doesn't make sense. I don't know if it can even be fixed. I'll keep trying and maybe we will be able to pay to have it worked on, but I have no idea how or when. It's just to hard to write much on my kindle, that's not what it's intended for. But I'll try to keep in touch. Who knows, maybe God will fix my computer and there won't be any problems! That would be great.
I can check my email on my kindle though, but nothing there.
Sorry for the bad news guys.... it's up to the Lord now.

Hi Cindy wouldn't it be nice if it your computer not working was just because of a loose plug in connection. On Ron's desk top computer first the power supply went out, so he bought that new and then the mother board went out, but we had another mother board already and he just snapped that into place and now all is working well. I use a lap top computer now for a few years and all works fine with it. Leigh, it was interesting to read how some of the people dealt with the flood problem, some people use prayer to God and others helped by a kind stranger. I was given two old dirty China plates from Art. I could of thrown them away but I like them. I will see if I can get the dirt out of the one plate, if not then I will have to throw it away.

Hi every one. Just catching up. Grief is strange. I saw a picture of the man standing in front of the tank in Tienaman square. I said no! Don't do it! I felt like crying, because as you know, that man died. There are so many details. Things left undone. things I feel under qualified to do. And yet here I am. So thank you for your precious prayers. I know God will help me with this strange emptiness.
