Ruthanne- Enjoy your family BBQ. Do you now live in a trailer? The last I knew you just moved into an apartment and had no curtains on the kitchen window. I don't go to Facebook so I guess I missed out on the latest that has happened. My thought when I read how many packs of cigarettes you all smoke in one day was that you could buy a new shirt everyday with that money at the Blair clearance sale on-line. Funny the thoughts that come to mind. God bless, it sounds like you are doing fine with your walk and talk with the Lord.

Hello Mark and everyone else. We are in NC with a small group from our church. When we arrived last night it was late and we couldn't see, but when we awoke this morning we realized the view is gorgeous!
One of our families has a mountain cabin up here, so everyone went straight to their cabin as we arrived last night. They cooked a delicious supper for all of us - grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, slaw, baked beans, deviled eggs, chips, fruit salad, homemade pickles, tea, with chocolate sheet cake and homemade ice cream for dessert! Boy was it GOOD!! We sat around and visited until way past dark, and the boys (Daniel and his friend Garrett) entertained us with their guitar and banjo. As we left to come to the rental house where the rest of us are staying, one of the ladies remarked how wonderful the air smells.... so cool and fresh, and sweet like flowers. She said, "This is the way air is supposed to smell!" (I'll bet it's that way where Cindy lives too!) The sky was so clear, with the stars shining brightly.
I just woke up a few minutes ago and John and a couple of the men were already up and they are sitting out on the deck, overlooking a lake, drinking their coffee and visiting. The birds are singing and it is chilly outside. Everyone brought all kinds of goodies to share, and I brought a cinnamon streusel coffee cake for breakfast for anyone who wants it. (I've already eaten a bunch of M&Ms someone set out. :) ).
The internet connection isn't the best so I don't know if my message will even go through. Wish you were all here!

Good morning everyone. Sorry to be so quiet. Just enjoy reading everyone's posts. Lorrie, you outdoors experience is so refreshing just to hear about it! Ruthanne, you are such an inspiration to us all. You've been through so much and through the Lord you come out shining like a gem. That's because you are a gem. I am praying for your dear husband. Anna, I reflect on what you said about the smoking. Although, I'm not much of a clothes horse, I do enjoy buying pretty plants for the yard. And yesterday I looked down at my receipt, after buying yet another carton of cigarettes, and said to Ed. "If I could only be rid of this, I could buy one tree rose and 1/2 of another. ??? Or I could buy 3 meals with that amount." Ed did give a try to quitting again, and I smoked outside, which caused me to smoke way less, and kept my home smelling good. It lasted a couple of weeks, but he's in so much pain, he can't see straight, so he is saving the patches, the VA sent him, for when they find out what is wrong with his shoulder and neck, and maybe get some relief. Then he's going to try again. I sure did love the fact that my house didn't smell like an ashtray. So, I'm looking forward to him getting treated so he can quit and so can I. I just know that if he quits, I will be able to set them down, forever. I want that SO much. I understand now, how my mother could do it. She always said "If your father would just quit smoking, I can too. I just can't do it with smoke in the house." And now I know how she managed. Dad quit and within a month or less, my mother did too. It was kinda funny, in a way. She had one pack left, and said "this is my last pack". One day, when she got home, she was getting out of the blazer with groceries and accidentally dropped her pack on the driveway, and they spilled out. Well, as you all know, my mother was a germophobic in the worst way. (lol, so am I) She was not about to put those things in her mouth, now that they've touched the ground. So, she gathered them all up, and came into the house and threw them all in the trash. Dad just looked at her, wondering. She said, "I just quit smoking!!" LOL, she never did smoke again, either. I keep praying that the Lord will do that for me, some day. OK, I seem to never post anymore, and then when I do, I get to babbling. But, I'm gonna go ahead and sign off for now. Ed and I have a little bit of running to do, and hopefully buy some groceries, if we have enough energy left. So, I guess I'd better get a move on. It's getting late in the day.

Cheryl, it is nice that you are able to be chatty. I enjoy reading what you have to say and I like to hear about your mother. I would say more about my mother, if I ever think of anything to say, she was a workaholic. When I was a child and a teenager I spent my free time with my best friend Sherry, who was an only child, so her parents spoiled her and took her fun places and Sherry took me along for the fun, so I have those memories. When we got older we went our separate ways, with different interests.

Leigh, I saw this cookbook I think I will buy. It is Mason Jar Salads and More. Salad magic in a mason jar. Just make a pretty salad in a mason jar, a vegetable salad, potato salad, a fruit salad or a smothie. Grab and go salads for lunch, fun meals packed in adorable jars. That would work well for me when I have to travel to town and am gone for hours. I am always tempted to buy a ready made sandwich or worse I'll be looking for a milk shake to buy somewhere.

Good evening all.I hope you are all having a good holiday.Steven,I guess decided not to b-b- cue, but he hasn't called or anything.C came over and called but Steven didn't answer,as usual.Listening to Mercy Me's Shake.I love K-Love! Looks like the weather in Ok. and Texas is getting closer to us.The wind is picking up ,alot, and it's getting cloudy.. Anna,I did live in the trailer, but a yr ago moved into this apt. And the only window I have a valance on is the kitchen.I have decided not to have curtains, cause they are dust and smoke catchers.I think people think I want to have curtains but can't afford them, but I truly don't want them.I have blinds on all the windows.Beginning to feel like home.So you didn't miss anything. And about the cigs.We could buy and insure a NEW car with the money we spend on cigs.I believe I could do without food better than cigs.I have such an addictive personality.I have prayed so much aboutit. But still smoking.I wonder if thats because I can't imagine NOT smoking. How strange is this world that gays get civil rights and now smokers are persecuted?I like your idea of take out meals from home in mason jars. Leigh,it sounds wonderful what you are doing for your holiday.I guess thats what I am missing by not going to church.Loving fellowship.Thank God for FH! Cheryl,it's so nice to hear from you!And thank you for your sweet words. And Jesus loves me too,so I must not be as bad as I think I am,lol.I feel for you and Ed.Like Larry and me.I dread losing him .Maybe I will go first, his family will make sure he is ok if I am not here.I don't say Steven cause they don't get along. But Steven was the one who helped Lar through Jason's death and lar helped him so he might be there for him.It hurts that I can do nothing to help him and he feels the same about me,as I'm sure Ed does too.I also love hearing about your mom and dad and brother, the one you have connected with.I have one too!I lost him for 14 yrs.Steven found him on FB,so I guess it has it's uses.We talk on the phone alot.He is a joker and always makes me laugh, always has. Cindy and Barb and Mark and Catt,I pray you are all taking it easy and get to feeling better soon.Cindy,I hope you get back to tolerable soon.I'm sorry everyone feels so bad.But I imagine you will see lots of family and that will lift your spirit ,and maybe the pain will subside for you for awhile. Hi Kel and Debi and Margie. How is your holiday going? Are the kids still home,Kel?How is Megan's dad? I have to go put some things in the oven.Me and Larry decided to have onion rings and potato wedges.Thats what we want. Well ,Lar is waiting to eat so I will talk to y'all later,Love Ruthanne

Good Evening Fresh Hope Family! Today, I spent the day resting due to a long week of work. Shirley is doing more and more each day. I kind of messed up and thought I would see if Shirley could start to take her meds on her own. Not yet! She missed her 3:30 pm meds so I ended up giving it to her at 5pm. It's OK though cause she realized, at that time, that she forgot. I love her ! Well I hope everyone is having a good weekend, Take care and God Bless!!

Onion rings and potato wedges! YUM!! I made a supper two nights ago that surprised me. I worked hard on it, and hoped it would be good, but it was FANTASTIC! LOL I made shoulder pork steaks on the grill. I put garlic powder, pepper, salt on one side, then loaded it up with paprika and pounded the daylights out of them. lol Then turned them over and only used the garlic and paprika and pounded that side too, then slapped them on the grill on the lowest setting it has. I cooked them for longer, being on the low setting. I was trying to remember how my mother did it. I knew she used the paprika for tenderizing, but forgot that she pounded it down with the edge of a plastic plate. I used a meat mallet though. lol And I must say that mine turned out better than hers, and that's saying a lot, because I always loved my mother's pork steaks. Then I made a potato salad, that seemed to be better than ever. Not sure, but it was good. Then I made a banana pudding with the Nilla wafers, the old fashioned way........except I used instant pudding. lol My taste buds were saying more, more, more, but my stomach was crying "oh please don't do this to me!" Then I actually used my crock pot, and it worked for me this time. I put a pot roast in it with a homemade au jus, and made Italian beef for sandwiches for last night. It cooked for 16 hours. lol Today, I'm going to take the leftover meat and au jus and make a gravy with it, and put the meat into it with loads of mushrooms and serve it over rice or noodles. I told Ed to think about it, and let me know which one. lol It's only almost 6:30am, so he's not really thinking of supper right now. lol Cindy, I just loved reading how you were saved. I started my morning with that. Good way to begin. Well, I really never went to bed, last night, but feel rested because I did nothing all evening. Napped in my chair for a couple hours last night, but been up ever since. I hope I don't get back into my old routine. I'm kinda liking sleeping at night. lol Lulu, I hope you finally got some rain. If I could package it up and send some of ours your way, I'd sure do it! It finally stopped raining, just before sun up, after raining all night long. lol, that was with a 20% chance of rain in the forecast. My plants are sure loving it, and the ground is still soaking it up, like a sponge. Two of my tree roses died, over the winter, so I'm still waiting for those to be delivered. (the warranty replacements, that is) They said to call back in a week for a ship date. :-/ They received my request on the 23rd of April. I'm going to try something different, because these are the 4th rose trees that have died, from this company. They ship bare root, and bloom right away and then nothing, and die. They ship them so late that they don't get a chance to have a good root system going before the freeze, and all my other tree roses have done well, that I buy potted here locally. Sooooo, I'm going to pot the bare root trees, and keep them potted until next spring. During the winter I'll put them in the garage, away from the ice. That will allow them to harden but still have a strong root system for the ground. Maybe that will work. I hope so, because I'm getting really tired of replacing my plants. How did your Hibiscus fare, last year, with the seeds I sent to you? Or anyone else, for that matter. I know I sent out a LOT of packets, but can't remember now, who all I sent them to. I meant to ask about it, but don't think I have. I transplanted mine out of the grass, over to my rock garden and boy did it ever have a massive root system on it. I thought it was dead, but kept seeing new growth, so I thought I'd dig it up and have a looksee and wow! And with all this rain, there are new sprouts and the plant is about oh, I'd guess to be about 10" tall. Kelly, I would check the seal on your new pressure cooker. If things are boiling out of it, it's not sealing properly. I hope you too, got the rain you were expecting. Hi Mark. I'm so happy that Shirley is improving every day! That is so good to hear. Hi Margie! How are things going there in Texas? Are you still busy with the boys games? How's the house fixing going? Lorrie, are you still in NC? Or are you heading home today?

Ruthanne, we don't have curtains either, in our kitchen we do, but none in the living room or out here in our sanctuary. we are putting in a pork-roast right now, to cook all day for supper tonite, it's stuffed with garlic, fresh rosemary and bacon...the rosemary smells SO good on my hands...lol...it's just Ron and I, no family plans, as Matt has to work and Netty isn't even in the state right now...it's been a very nice quiet weekend, just Ron and I....

from Cheryl: "Hi Margie! How are things going there in Texas? Are you still busy with the boys games? How's the house fixing going?"
Still wet and sloppy here, and more rain is expected this afternoon. Grandkids are finished with sports until school starts again. It's so wet that the contractor said he would start replacing the outside window frames whenever it dries out some. That could be awhile!
Laundry day. Need to move the parakeet cage outside to clean it but I have to wait until laundry is done so I don't need to go inside. The red-tailed hawk seems to have moved here permanently. It was on the back yard fence again yesterday. I could see it moving its head to watch us as we moved around the house. Can't leave my parakeets on the patio alone. That hawk has such long talons that if it comes back while I'm outside, I am going into the house right away!
Hope everyone is doing good. Hugs.

A red-tailed hawk, how exciting! You are smart to protect your parakeets. He must see them as snacks in a box. I used to see them when we mowed the hay fields. The mower cut down everything in it's path, so there was all kinds of morsels for the hawk. We also had a kestrel who used to nest there. I live in an apartment now, so these are only memories. Don't get me wrong I prefer the ease of living in town, but the stars were just beautiful at night. Rat Patrol! That was a favorite.

Kel, that is wonderful news - thanks so much for the update!
Hello everyone -- got home yesterday late in the afternoon... had a great time... gained 2 pounds so you know it was fun :D but now, back to the grindstone. Seven more days of school here.
Anna, here is a blog I follow: www.salad-in-a-jar.com/how-to-make-salad-in-a-jar-2 (Guess I'd better make some of these up for myself and get back to healthy eating!)

Hi, just a quickie post. Lorrie, I just checked out your link. I have a Foodsaver, but I don't have that attachment. I didn't even know one like that existed. hmmm. Interesting way to preserve lettuce. That's what I was checking it out for. lol
Lorrie, I'm glad to see you are home.
Kel that furniture looks really great. That long table in your fb pictures looks exactly like the buck-wagon table that Ed made, years ago. It had no nails (all cogs) and it came apart and the top of the table was actually the box, and all the pieces fit inside and it was portable. When put together, it looked just like your table, except without the fancy edges. And there were two benches, made the same way that fit in there too.
Margie, that rain you mentioned. We are getting it too. It has rained every day for the last week, and is sprinkling out there right now, and is supposed to rain all the way up to Thursday, here. I heard about some flash flooding in Texas, and some have lost their lives. I hope that's not around where you are.
We are over-run by Cicadas. They are nasty little critters. And they started flying at me, just now, when I went out to check my garden. They like my tomato plants. I don't like those things. They creep me out. And I guess I'm going to have to sprinkle some Sevin dust on my plants, because there is strong evidence of cut worms on my Marconi's. That don't set well with me. The worms OR the poison.
OK, I need to get busy around here. I did my laundry, yesterday, so that's out of the way, but I need to do a little more, and hopefully, between the raindrops, I can plant my 2 rose bushes. I'm slowly building a rose hedge on the edge of the property. I hope it works.

hmm.. the long table? Is the base black? That table top is mixed tile :) He is having a lot of fun making everything. We chose the name Guppy after his uncle. It was his uncles nickname. Everyone knew him by Guppy. lol and since David was named after him.. it made sense. (he was Big Dave and my David was Little Dave) lol
We need to go in and purchase our name :)
