You're welcome Jenn. Cindy, on FB you asked me to copy the prayer request part of the info on 15 year old Harrison. Here it is: From 8-11-16: Please pray that Harrison will (1) be safe, (2) be spared severe side effects, (3) recover quickly, and (4) have his cancer killed off by this medicines. Then on Saturday afternoon, 8-12, his father posted the following update (good news!): By this time last weekend Harrison was already having fevers as a reaction to the chemo. This weekend they have given him a steroid to prevent those fevers and thankfully he has avoided any so far. Last weekend he slept from Friday night around 9:00 until Tuesday morning, waking up only to go to the bathroom. He did not eat one thing the entire time, and lost five pounds. This weekend he is awake talking and eating. Much better. To give you an idea of the power of the chemo, when he left the hospital last week his white cell count (ANC, for Absolute Neutrophil Count) was 3000. When he checked in yesterday it was 300! Over the next seven days it will drop to zero, making him susceptible to serious infections, so he has to stay in the hospital until that number reaches 300 or higher again. Thanks for praying for him.

I really appreciate all the prayers for Harrison. It's difficult praying for someone we don't know, but you, my FH family, are kind and loving. As mentioned before, I don't know Harrison personally, but his family and my sister's family are friends. Either Harrison's dad and my brother-in-law went through seminary together, or they taught seminary together (or both). Anyway, my BIL (& family) is now pastoring a church and has moved away from the area, but Harrison's father is still teaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
When Harrison was first diagnosed, it seems like they said he was only one of several people in the WORLD (or perhaps the only one) with that particular type of leukemia. God has been merciful and let him live almost five years since the initial diagnosis, so my prayer is, of course, that he will be healed.

Wow, haven't been here for a while. To let everyone know, it's hard for me to post as much as I used to. My Tremors have been acting up lately. So my typing skills have been a bit on the slow side. For the record, I do pray daily for everyone's requests in the Prayer room. Fresh Hope and the members here are and always will be a part of my life. So with this in mind, I may not be posting but I take the time to read what's going on here. This may sound a bit choppy but I mean well. Oh by the way Hello everyone. It's a wonderful 91 degrees here in Oregon. We should be in the 100's by Thursday. Lucky us No AC. Just fans and towels. Enough for now, take care and God Bless.

I just wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything as I don't trust my memory any more. I have seen the last couple of posts you made and am so glad he's doing well. It's a real blessing to know that Harrison knows the Lord, and that his family has the Lord to comfort and encourage them. I'm praying for them as well. I'm also still praying for Catilyn and hope she is doing well too.Wow, haven't been here for a while. To let everyone know, it's hard for me to post as much as I used to. I'll sure be glad when summer's over though. I'm not familiar with that, so really can't comment on it, sorry....
The last few days have been really busy. The kids were here on Monday and we had a wonderful time with them. I taught Gracie how to crochet, which wasn't easy since I'm right handed and she's a leftie like her mom LOL. But I showed Jenn how to do it too. Now Elijah wants to learn. So yesterday we went shopping and got the kids their own crochet hooks and a bunch of yarn to practice with. But we also got them a whole bunch of marbles to play with too LOL I've got a bunch of calls and paper work to get to today, so need to get over to the bible study threads and take care of them first. I hope everyone has a great day today!

Hi ladies
I have been catching up on work I have to do. Time is going by fast for me this month, the morning are cool, unlike last month when even the morning were warm and the month seemed to drag by slower. This year we have had normal weather, I know unlike a lot of other places that are getting to much rain or not enough rain.
My Bible study with Michael and chat is going well, we are in chapter 18 of Revelations, in Revelation 17, I thought the scriptures were talking about reviving the Rome church, seven mountains and all, but Michael said it was about Israel which also has the seven mountains, oh well I notice different people teach differently about Revelation, like about the red, black and white horses, I still don't understand it like I do other books of the Bible, but a Bible study helps, and chat is nice. Wishing you all blessed days with the Lord.

Hope everyone is doing good. That's really nice how you celebrate everyone's birthday that way. Sounds like a great way to fellowship. Our weather was much cooler yesterday too, although the weatherman didn't think it would be. We all had a nice surprise!Hi ladies
I've read many commentaries and I've never, ever heard of any teacher/pastor concluding that the mountains were Israel. That really makes no sense in the context of the passage. Most commentaries agree about what this means, with only a few minor ones saying the mountains might be the mountains that Rome is situated on. (in fact, I only found two commentaries that mentioned that). Honestly, if you stick with pastors who are known to be scripturally correct, in that they don't take things out of context and they allow the bible to interpret itself, you'll find that they rarely disagree and when they do it's generally on very minor details.
Here's what most of the commentaries say:
Revelation 17:9 seven mountains: The Gr. word is often used of hills. Many commentators interpret this expression to mean Rome, which sits on 7 hills. It is true that the final worldwide system of false religion includes, but is not necessarily limited to, Rome; but specifically, the 7 mountains in context likely symbolize the 7 kingdoms and their kings of v. 10. The MacArthur study Bible
A close study of the passage doesn't support the conclusion that this refers to Rome. The reference is to rulers rather than to physical mountains. This is supported by the text which explains, They are also seven kings (lit., “the 7 heads are 7 kings”). If the mountains represent kings, then obviously they are not literal mountains & refer not to a literal Rome but to persons. This view is also supported by verse 10, Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come. John was writing from his point of view in which 5 prominent kings of the Roman Empire had already come & gone, & 1 was then on the throne. The identity of the 7th king, the one to come after John’s time, is unknown. The Bible Knowledge Commentary
“The beast” has seven heads and ten horns. The seven heads symbolize seven mountains (Rev. 17:9) and also seven kings or kingdoms (Rev. 17:10), in keeping with Old Testament imagery (Ps. 30:7; Dan. 2:35). I have already suggested that the seven mountains can be interpreted geographically as the seven hills of Rome, but they may also be interpreted historically as seven kingdoms. According to Revelation 17:10, five of these kings (or kingdoms) had passed off the scene, one was present in John’s day, and one was yet to come. If so, then the five past kingdoms would be Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, and Greece. The present kingdom would be Rome, and the future kingdom would be that of “the beast.” In order to understand Revelation 17:10–11, we must consider Revelation 17:12. “The beast” not only has seven heads, but also ten horns, which represent ten kings. But these are very special kings: they enable “the beast” to rise to power and are even willing to yield their authority to him. Recall that at the opening of the first seal (Rev. 6:1–2), Antichrist began his “peaceful” conquest of the nations. He organized a “United States of Europe,” brought peace to the Middle East, and appeared to be the great leader the troubled world was seeking. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary
Revelation 17:9–13 In the second cryptic wisdom statement in the book (13:18), the identity of the beast is clarified as a king who emerges from a group of rulers, apparently after a number of earlier empires or rulers. While it appears to the world that these rulers are dominant, they have received authority from the Lord only for a short time (“one hour”). This wording has caused some to speculate that perhaps the beast is Nero revived or that the beast will emerge out of a revived Roman Empire or the European Union. The details are not clear enough to determine this, however, and readers must exercise caution and not go beyond what is written (1 Co 4:6). The Apologetics Study Bible
Here are four sermons by Pastor MacArthur that you can either listen to or read about Revelation 17. The first two cover Revelation 17:1-6 and the third one covers Revelation 17:7-8 and part 4 covers Revelation 17:9-18. You can't go wrong with MacArthur!

Thank you Cindy for pointing out my error, you are right. I am excited to get started reading the book of Revelation from the site Grace to You, much easier for me to understand. I can go to the (chat and worship) at the other site which is a blessing, but the Bible study is not working out there. At Grace to You I think I will start over and start reading at chapter 1.

You're welcome hon. Macarthur does a great job of explaining scripture. I love listening to his sermons and reading them. He brings God's Word to life.
I made a bunch of banana bread yesterday and Bruce is taking half of it to work with him today for the rest of the guys there. But because I did that, I didn't get around to my other chores so today I have to play catch up.

Hi, Barbra glad you got a new laptop computer and that you like it. I use a Compaq brand laptop computer, I have had it for many years and it is still working. I like that I have a choice to run it on battery or else use the wall plug in. I'm off to start my day, everyone is awake now, I woke up at 3 AM this morning, so I got an earlier than usual start.

Okay I have not been in here to read & catch up on everyones' posts in a few days, and will try and do that later today, but in the meantime, Kel's mother-in-law, Jeanette, is having surgery this morning for two aortic aneurysms. Please be in prayer for her and the family. There are a few more details over on Kel's prayer thread if you want to read it: fresh-hope.com/thread/1334/kels-prayer-requests?page=4&scrollTo=11857.

This summer went by fast for me, the months of June and August, the month of July dragged by slow though. It probably will be a dry winter where you live, some areas are to dry and others have to much rain. The east coast may see a hurricane at the end of this month. I am glad that here where I live it has been a normal weather pattern. I have already bought three new winter shirts to wear for when the temps get cold. This week I have been juicing, fermenting veg and fruit in jars and growing wheatgrass, the warm temps help to make the growing of wheatgrass and fermenting easier. That is good that you have about two months off a year from work to do what you want to do with your time and spend time with family members.

That is good that you have about two months off a year from work to do what you want to do with your time and spend time with family members. It's funny how we perceive time so differently at different ages especially. Watching my children raise their children really showed me how different time seemed when I was raising mine compared to watching them raise theirs. Before time seemed slow to me, and now it seems to go by so very fast. I seem to always be telling my kids to cherish each day because before they know it or realize what's happened, their kids will be all grown up and gone.
Bruce is going to a side job after work today. Now that I've met the man he's working for and seen what he has him doing, I don't mind much. For one thing, he's a cardiologist LOL and knows about Bruce's heart attack. But mostly it's just little jobs that are really easy for Bruce and don't take a lot of time or a lot of extra muscle. Plus he's been pretty good at not letting it wear him out too much, and the doc makes sure he doesn't give him too much at a time for that reason too. God sure is good to us!

Seven I listened to a minute of music from two songs from that radio station you posted, and yuk lol. I got this picture in my mind of people sitting in a bar and crying in their beer. In bars there are always people that look like they are lost thinking about their past, it just brought that back to my mind of seeing that in bars before. We have a classical music station here, they rely on donations, but the music is good most of the time.
Cindy that is good news for you and Bruce, a blessing from the Lord.

Cindy that is good news for you and Bruce, a blessing from the Lord. Thanks Anna, it's been good for us. Sorry I'm late today. I got caught up playing in my bible after I was done studying. I decided I wanted to know what year each of the translations I have was made in. Since I have 25 different translations of the bible, it took awhile to figure out the year they were published etc. Right now my oldest one is from 1582, and it's pretty hard to read lol, but I enjoy having them all so I can check the various meanings of the words being translated and see what others thought they meant. I also have Strongs and other books so I can check the actual meanings of the words in the original languages too. Even worse is trying to read the couple of Greek New Testaments I've got! Thankfully my library also includes books to teach me how to read and write in Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew and even how to speak them. I haven't done much with that though, as I want to focus on just studying God's Word for now since the way my library works I can instantly look up and learn about the words in the original languages without having to know how to read, write or speak them. Maybe someday I'll have time to learn them, but not now....
The first thing that amazed me when reading the bible in all those different translations side by side, was how very little is changed in any of the translations, and what's been changed simply makes the word more understandable to people now and doesn't change the meaning of anything. (like some people insist some do ) Just to show you what I mean, I'll quote the first two verses in the chapter I was studying today:
“Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” (Authorized Version 1611 Acts 13:1–2) “In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”” (NIV 1985 Acts 13:1–2)
Notice the meaning isn't changed, but it's easier to read and makes a bit more sense to us now, as it uses words we're more familiar with. The one major word that's been changed is "ministered" in the older version and is "worshiping" in the newer. When you check all the translations, they're evenly divided between the two words - half use worshiping and half use ministering. If we look up the word in the original language it means: serve, minister by sharing or partaking; perform religious duties, render a religious service. and: to serve, with the implication of more formal or regular service—‘to serve, service.’ and: to do a service, perform a work. 2A of priests and Levites who were busied with the sacred rites in the tabernacle or the temple. 2B of Christians serving Christ, whether by prayer, or by instructing others concerning the way of salvation, or in some other way. 2C of those who aid others with their resources, and relieve their poverty. DBLHebr 6268, 9250; Str 3008; TDNT 4.215—1. LN 35.22 .Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon. Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Greek (New Testament) Louw, J. P., & Nida, E. A. (1996). Vol. 1: Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament: Based on semantic domains So either word would be a good one to describe what they were doing as the people involved were not what we would consider "just parishioners" but were the leaders in the church. It's really interesting to see the differences (when there are any) between the versions and how the Lord has kept His Word so perfectly for us. I chose this one because I already knew there were quite a few differences, but normally, there aren't that many and the majority of the differences are the order the words are in since people used words in a different order way back then than we do now. LOL Now you can see how analytical my brain is LOL.

Hello all!
Finally read and caught up with what everybody's been doing over the last week. You all stay so busy! That's a good thing though... keeps you out of trouble.
Cindy, what you posted about the various Bible translations was interesting - thank you. It's good to hear you say that the differences between translations are minor and, therefore, don't seem to be worth fighting over as some people who want to insist that "their" version is the only correct one. (I suppose you don't include paraphrases, though, since they're not true translations.)
I used a NIV for years and liked that, but after the pages began falling out, replaced it with a thinline NKJV. It's nice and lightweight, but now that my eyes have changed, the letters are microscopic and SO hard to read. Still, it's my favorite to carry to church.
Then I bought a pretty, green NAS Inductive Study Bible that is good for Precept classes. The lettering is much easier to read, but it's heavy and not something I want to be hauling around.
Still, for plain understandability it's hard to beat the NIV.
About the Strong's Concordance... mine was a gift for high school graduation and I've only used it a few times. It is so easy to look up words online now, and in Precept, we're always having to do that - except sometimes it's difficult to match the exact word/passage, so probably need to get out the Strong's and teach myself to use it properly.
Something about my Daddy -- every time he visited he always asked for two things: my dictionary, and the Strong's Bible concordance. He LOVED words and word-study. He was not the typical man, which I didn't find that out until after getting married... surprise surprise! I assumed all men (or at least, most) enjoyed reading and disliked TV, but NO!

My speakers don't work on my computer.
That's so neat how the Lord works to answer our questions! After I submitted my post, I wondered why I'd written about that LOL Hello all!

Yes, I should have said that I wasn't including paraphrases, thanks for bringing that up! Have you ever tried the ESV translation? It's kind of in between the NIV and the KJV so I thought you might enjoy it. Another of my favorites is the NET bible, mainly due to their footnotes as they include word studies in their footnotes as well as other interesting things. It's similar to the ESV, and the NASB, or maybe something in between those. I have to admit though, like you, for just plain reading, I too prefer the NIV.
That's neat that your Dad enjoyed studying the words too. I know what you mean about him not being typical. Bruce loves to watch TV while most of my kids and I, much prefer to read. It used to drive Bruce nuts, but he's gotten used to seeing me with my nose stuck in a book now.

I don't know if you remember or not a video I once posted here about how to make home-made yogurt, from Starry Hilders website, a bubbly happy Christian woman, well she had an accident and was thrown off of her bicycle while riding downhill on a mountain road. I had not been to her website in months and was not thinking about her but the video showed up on my you-tube page, not only that but I also next happened upon a video that gave an address where a get well card could be sent for Starry to receive. Starry video was audio only and she was crying and giving thanks to Jesus. She said she laid on the mountain road praying her husband would find her and that a car would not run her over, and her husband did come down the road and find her. She was taken to the hospital and when she gets out of the hospital there are friends that will take care of her while she is bedridden. She has a backbone D6 disc injury, a hole in her face and broken teeth, that I know of, I don't know what other injuries she has. I have been praying for her and feel sorrow for her and pray she will get better and be back to her old self again. I think I will send a get well card.

how horrible for her. I'm so glad the Lord watched over her and her husband found her. Saying a prayer for her now.
I had a wonderful surprise yesterday. Actually, it was kind of funny too. The night before, my friend Laura called me and was telling me how stressed she was concerning work. I happened to be scrolling through facebook when she called and saw a cute picture that I sent her, as I thought it was appropriate for what she was going through and would lift her spirits some. It was a picture of a cat on a couch with the TV remote in his paws. The caption said, "My boss told me to have a good day.... so I came home! Well, yesterday afternoon, who should show up at my door but Laura! I knew she was supposed to be at work so I sure didn't expect it. But when I saw her, all I could think of was what that silly picture said, and I burst out laughing! She told me that's what she really did too, because she got up that morning, got ready for work, gassed up the car and was about to head out, when she decided she really needed a day off, and just went ahead and took one LOL. I'm sure she won't get in trouble as she's never called out before and other people do it all the time and she has to cover for them. (part of what's causing her to be stressed and overworked). I was sure glad to see her and really enjoyed our visit.
Hope everyone has a good day today!
