Cindy, we did actually move from an apt. the day a scorpion was poised to hit our 3 mt. old daughter's head ( who I had put on a blanket on the floor) in Hawaii ( where everything is much bigger than on the mainland USA).
I was so terrified.....I was afraid if I tried to put a glass over it, I would not be quick enough and it would strike her on the 'soft' spot on her head.....
But if I tried to pick her up.....it would strike her
IF I just left it alone, to see what it would do....well, it was in the strike mode.....
I did finally risk putting a glass over it and grabbing Hossanah up....we did NOT even spend the night in that apt.
I forget what we actually did, but I do know, we did NOT spend the night there and we did get a new place to live in Hawaii. We lived there 12 years for me and 15 for Leonard ( our children were born there and stayed until Hossanah was in 5th or 6th grade).
I talked to the pediatrician the next baby visit and he assured me that had that scorpion struck her she , she might well have died....in part, strangely because she is so 'fair', but also just an infant and it would have been a direct hit in the soft spot of her head.
So, nooooo, scorpions are definitely NOT one of my favorites of God's creation....but then I don't like spiders, cock roaches ( they have huge German flying ones in Hawaii) etc. etc.

Hi everyone! we finally are getting some rain and snow in the Mt's so that has helped with the fires.. we got back from vacation last week. it was really nice to get away. now i must find a job. I'm praying something opens up for you Cheryl! Anna.. my son and daughter in law when they were living in arizona, their apt building was on a scorpion trail.. they would often have them drop from the ceiling. after they moved, their was a new story about their apartment, and how this guy caught 21 scorpions in his apartment!! yikes!! well.. y'all take care.. i hope i can go to sleep That is good that your son and his wife moved from that apt. that had the scorpions. The apt. owners should have done something to stop to scorpions, of course, people would be moving from the apt. The small scorpion stings are very painful, much more than a bee sting. It is good that your son and his wife never got stung by a scorpion. I have heard that the larger scorpions sting is not as bad as the small ones. Every time I see one of those large black scorpions, I think of hell, they are so ugly they look like they came from hell. A neighbor guy Terry who does yard work for people said that he has been both struck by a rattlesnake and got sick from that and also stung by a scorpion and he said the scorpion sting was more painful. Bucky who died a few months ago once said that he was riding a horse near some boulder rocks and a rattlesnake was able to strike him on the arm, he was ill for a few days after that. Since Bucky died his wife has now sold the home and business and is moving out of state to Ohio to be near her father and has applied to be a school teacher. We have Roku but we never use it since we watch you-tube videos instead. I can watch old movies on you-tube. Last night I watched sewing videos, today I am going to check out my sewing machine and adjust the tense properly. I was discouraged sewing because of a thread tension problem, I watched videos on how to fix that problem, so I will see if I can if so I will start sewing if I can't then I might need a new sewing machine. I have a Brother sewing machine that I paid 80 dollars for new. I will also see if I can oil it.

Still really hot here so no fall weather for us yet. A friend from Sunday School Class moved to our retirement community. Another SS Class friend and I helped her unpack and put things away. I was really tired. She is settled in now except for decorations and books. Hubby and I had breakfast out this morning. That was a nice treat. Now he's watching football (surprise, surprise!) I finished the laundry so I'm going to rest for a while. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Hugs.

Hello, everyone. all that talk about your experiences with scorpions, is giving me the willies.
Church was great, as usual, today. The Pastor spoke about the Rapture, and promised to teach more at evening services, so guess where I'll be tonight.
The weather has been kinda weird around here, lately. It got cool, during hurricane Irma, then got scorching hot. The mornings are nice, and the evenings are muggy, but not so hot. So, I guess I can't really complain too much.
Well, back to cleaning my house.

The next morning after you asked me for more photos of our birds and critters,we had company for breakfast lol. So I got a picture of them just for you:You can only see half of the flock of turkeys in this picture though. There was about 27 according to Bruce. I got Rascal and Chloe to come out on the porch so they could see them and they were so excited! That sounds like it will be nice for you, to have a friend from Church live near by! Hope you got a good rest. My neighbor that was in a horrible accident several months ago is finally home again! (The doctors didn't expect her to live, but our prayers were answered and of course she did.) I took over some cookies and a little plaque and made sure she had my phone number in case she needed anything. I know my other two neighbors did the same too. Between us, we'll see that she's taken care of. I know her cat was thrilled to have her home. (another neighbor had been caring for him). We've were without heat for 3 1/2 days ( and nights which were the worst).....it was down to about 43 at nights outside so it was not exactly fun.....it seems the older we get sometimes we are colder in our bodies.
Anyway, they finally fixed it yesterday YEAH!!!
Cindy: what a neat photo...of wild turkeys no less! More more more please!!!
I am one of these people ( maybe being an artist) who does NOT secretly groan when people bring out photos....I actually like looking at almost anything scenery, people's children, pets etc

Cindy, that's so awesome that you get so much wildlife in your yard. I used to love, just getting deer, but you get so many interesting critters. And chalk me up for one of those people who just LOVE pictures. Of course, I'm sure that you've figured that out, by now. LOL.
That's so wonderful that your friend and neighbor pulled through. ONLY the Lord can do that. Praise the Lord!!
Barbara, I'm sorry that you had to endure 3 days without heat. I'm so glad that you do have it back though. Yes.........the cold tends to cause me more pain, because I stiffen up to ward off the chill and that causes too much pain. But, I have noticed something. Cool, not cold is helping me more. I used to be one who LOVED the summers, but not so much anymore. When it's cooler, I can get around pretty well. But, either extreme isn't so great now.
Well, the Pastor taught a LOT this Sunday. And one thing that he talked about, at length, last night was the importance of baptism. (fully immersed, of course.) And he gave many verses about it, that I wrote down to study. But, it's something that I've been wondering about. I was baptized when I was 11 years old. And while I knew full well why I went forward, and why I was being baptized, I fell away from Christ, for many years. So, I had a private talk with the Pastor and asked him, if it was necessary to maybe be baptized again. He didn't say I had to, but gave his personal opinion. (And he made sure I knew it was only his personal opinion to do so, and if it were him, he would. But, made it clear that it has to be totally up to me. And I knew that, but I wanted to hear what he thought) So, the Lord willing, I will be walking up the isle of that Church, come Sunday. Please pray that I have the courage, understanding, a spirit filled heart, to let the Lord know, once and for all, how much I love Him, and believe in Him.

You said it exactly as how it is for me Cheryl.....not too hot and not to cold....but cool/warm is best. If it's too hot I have no energy, can't sleep and am miserable, but too cold and it really does seem like I ache much more....like you said from tense muscles ( at least in part).
Well, last week our grandson was sick, and I know I was fighting off his germs ( LOL) and now today, granddaughter had to go with her mom ( our daughter) to doctors ( strep throat) and got antibiotics so that may be in part why I am also so tired ( as well as almost 4 days and nights of being cold).
We are so blessed our daughter lives exactly the next cottage next door to us...but the draw back is kids do get sick.
I sure hope I do not get strep throat, cuz I see my doctor first week in Oct. and if I got sick it would just give him ammunition to try to push a flu shot on me....nooooooo

I am one of these people ( maybe being an artist) who does NOT secretly groan when people bring out photos....I actually like looking at almost anything scenery, people's children, pets etc I can't imagine needing heat right now, although normally we would too. But it's gone back to being in the 90's again here. I will be so glad when summer is totally over and fall is really here.
We had some raven's come and join our birds and critters last week. They were well behaved though and didn't bother any of our regulars. They all ate together quite well. I was really surprised though as I thought there might be problems with them, but I guess the Lord told them to behave lol Cindy, that's so awesome that you get so much wildlife in your yard. That's wonderful Cheryl! I'm so happy for you! For me I just can't stand the heat. Cold doesn't really bother me since I simply stay in the house anyway, so I'm not really cold, and if we do go somewhere, the car heater works great too so again, the cold doesn't bother me. But the heat really gets to me. The air conditioners make it bearable to some extent, but I have to go outside fairly frequently, and when we have to go somewhere, our car's air conditioner doesn't work. I'd say the cold bothers me because of my hands and feet except that they get just as frozen when it's 90 outside as they do when it's 30 below 0 lol. So the outside temp doesn't seem to matter with Raynauds. Weird I know...You said it exactly as how it is for me Cheryl.....not too hot and not to cold....but cool/warm is best. If it's too hot I have no energy, can't sleep and am miserable, but too cold and it really does seem like I ache much more....like you said from tense muscles ( at least in part).

Speaking of the flu shot, I need to set up an appointment to get mine this year. I had to miss it last year but the Lord got me though the year without it, bless His heart! I'[d forgotten about that, so I'm glad you mentioned it!

I have to go over and smash Vanessa's antibiotic pill ....apparently the doc or whomever wrote the prescription, ( she wouldn't have seen her regular doc), made it for pill form, but her throat hurts waaay too much to swallow a big pill.
Our daughter is going to see if they can change the order to a liquid....but meanwhile, since Hossanah is at work, I get to go smash the pill LOL
Actually Hossanah may need to take vanessa to ER today ( the doc or nurse suggested she might have to) and they wants to see Vanessa tomorrow again.
Vanessa has a big bunch of puss etc on her throat also...so yeah!
This is going to be hard on Vanessa as she always maintains straight A's and is taking some really hard courses this semester so she is missing a lot of ground work. She works super hard because no one has money so she needs to get scholarships for college. ( she is a junior this year)
Actually I don't know if its just a sympathetic response, but my throat feels just a tiny bit sore and I am very tired this morning.

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. Nice to see a photo of wild turkeys. The weather here is nice now so I am going outdoors to do work since I have not done any outdoors work for 3 months. Bible study has been a blessing and so has chat and worship. The other night on chat a woman was there and at that time she had an electrical fire in her mobile home. The fire burned the air pump out for her fish aquarium, she was hoping the fish would survive and they did. I bought some sewing material online, so when I get that I can start sewing, the material is Aztek design. I need new pj's so that will be good to start with since I have not sewn in such a long time. After that, I will make a simple design dress and skirt, both with pockets. I will have plenty of material to make all of that. I plan to use my old clothes as a pattern, if that does not work well I will buy a pattern online. I need to buy more elastic and also would like pinking shears. So I am keeping busy.

I hope they get the liquid, but you may want to call the pharmacy and check about smashing that pill or cutting it, as it's not good to do that with some antibiotics. My throat's been hurting off an on for the last week too. I've heard that there's strep going around here as well, but I know I don't have that. Hope you feel better soon! Another hot day here. It's finally cool enough to work outside so that's what I'll be doing today! My poor gardens need my help so badly! Enjoy your time outside, Cindy. I turned on Ed's outdoor stereo, for only the second time, since he died, and am enjoying his country music. Sorry that I'm not replying to anyone else, right now. I'm kinda swamped and overwhelmed with all that is going on here. So, please know that I'm thinking of you all, and praying for you. Please include me in your prayers, as I need Him more and more every moment. I know He's here. I know He's watching over me. But, prayer is nice.

We are still using the air conditioner and fans in our home, that makes for a comfortable temperature. I stepped outside my back door and had a hummingbird come up to me and hover in front of my face and then I watched the hummingbird go over to a large dark purple wildflower. I bought a mum flower plant and I keep it in my bedroom and give it some sunlight also, I am wondering if the plant will soon die out, roots and all or if I can cut it back this winter and it will grow again. I don't think I will know for sure because I lost the information tag that came with the plant. I would think the sales of the plants are of annual plants and if I want perennial plants I will have to look for a tag that says perennials. I don't know if the information tags give that information. I checked online info but that did not help, so I will just wait and see, if the plant dies I get another one. I am also buying the clay pots, I like the clay pots best of all. I made some green tea with honey in it, to drink cold, like Cheryl likes, and I like it, I do like unsweetened black tea better, though I do like sugar, I am slowly trying to eat less sugar, but so far that is not much less.

I know Anna, sugar addiction in my opinion is actually harder to break than, cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs...... it's not just thinking those 3 are really bad, so, in comparison, sugar is not AS bad.....
No for me, it really is harder. Furthermore, a person can more easily eliminate the other three....we are not like to find them in almost any food we eat.
It's funny all of you are starting to get Fall weather.....we, on the other hand, had a mostly cool summer.... but now, for the last week, we have had some warm sunny days HA!
But Fall is around the corner. But one of the little known secrets of where we live ( Kel might know tho).....is sometimes in Jan. ( or Feb.) we can have a couple days of 70's.
Most folks think the Northern Oregon Coast would be wild, cold, and rainy in the winter, and it often ( or mostly) is, ( 30 or 40 MPH winds are a light breeze)....
People think major storm fronts barreling in.... but they don't ever think of sunny and 70 plus degrees LOL Go figure?
The strange thing is, I think the weathermen predict rain and cold... even IF..... it turns out nice, that NEVER gets reported...seeee Trump is right... false news LOL even in the weather!!

Have a blessed Sunday Barbra. I would think that living in the state of Oregon that you would enjoy the nice weather, especially near the ocean, you live near ocean front property and don't have to pay the property tax. lol About liking sugar, I once saw a Christian woman that I had not seen in years and when I told her who I was she said, the only thing I remember about you is that you used to eat chocolate cake for breakfast, hum oh well, I did eat chocolate cake for breakfast when I was in high school. I needed some kind of reward for having to go there, I did not like high school. I was happy to get out of high school and move on with my life, getting married and moving to the east coast near the ocean, and I was happy to stay near the ocean for many years of my life.

I'm on kindle so this will be short. Thursday it was summer at 99 degrees; Friday it was fall in the low 70's; and yesterday it was winter with a high in the low 40's. I wonder what today will bring. The high is supposed to be 65. We'll see. Hope you all have a good day!

We're back to fall weather now I guess, with it being mainly in the 60's and 30-40's at night.
You know that new bird feeder we got? Well, the birds don't like it! They won't eat out of it and haven't since we got it. The only thing we could think of was that because it's made of metal, that maybe when it's hot the metal gets too hot for their little feet and when cold, gets too cold for them. I don't know, but for whatever reason, they refuse to use it. So we went back to the store and bought another one that's like our old one, which was made of wood and much larger. Bruce put it up yesterday morning and by evening, all the food was gone! LOL And the food he put in it was from the metal feeder he took down that they hadn't touched for over two weeks. So I guess they're all happy again LOL

If I was a bird I would prefer wood over metal. Good thing you bought a wooden bird feeder and just in time, those birds were hungry. In chat I typed out about that hummingbird that flew up to my face and Jeff said that if I was wearing sunglasses and the hummingbird saw it's reflection from the sunglasses that might be why it flew close to my faces because hummingbirds are territorial. Then there was posted a picture of a praying mantis eating a bird. I didn't know a praying mantis could do that. Then Ron and I went for a walk and a praying mantis jumped onto my shirt, where it came from I didn't know because we were only in grass and not near a tree but when I saw it on my shirt I let out a scream because it scared me, after seeing that picture posted online, I thought praying mantis were harmless but I guess not.

LOL, Anna, I never considered a praying mantis, harmless, because after they mate, the female bites the head off the male. The first time I read that, I was like.....whoa, not cool! LOL That's ironic that one jumped on you, right after that picture had gotten posted.
I love hummingbirds, and it doesn't matter what you're wearing..........they come hover in front of you. I had one do that, last night, just before dark, while I was sitting on my front porch. Then like yours, he went over to get the nectar from a white rose, and then flew off. And while I'm sitting out back, they zoom past me in groups, at times. It sounds like a drag strip, buzzing around my head. vrooom, vroooom, vroooom. And you can hear the constant chattering and sword fights. I love it.
Cindy, I'm going to have to remember that, about bird feeders, if I ever see a metal one I like. I hope I remember not to buy it. Would have never thought about the metal being hot, but yeah....that makes sense. Glad you were able to get one like the old one, this late in the year.
The weather is still weird here. It can't decide if it's spring, fall or summer. I even have a small Azalea bush that has had flowers on it for several weeks, now. And those only bloom in the spring for a couple of weeks, and are green the rest of the year. It's why I really don't care for the Azalea. My Mums started flowering in July, when they are supposed to bloom in the fall. But they are still pretty, even now. And my Hibiscus flowered all summer long and are about spent, now, and they are not even supposed to get started until September. My roses are still blooming. And mind you......I haven't done a THING for any of it. They are all doing this, on their own. I haven't even deadheaded them, this year, at all. Anna, you mentioned your Mum plant. It will survive from year to year. I cut mine back after the first frost, all the way to the ground, and they come back every year. In cold climates, it's not as easy to do, because Mums don't really go very deep, below the frost line. But, I've never seen a Mum survive in a pot, but in your area, it just might, because you have a much hotter climate than I do. Most people just buy them, for the fall season, let them dry up and throw them out. I put mine in the ground.

I think I would too Marlene. But my oldest daughter, Michelle, told me that she has a metal bird feeder and their birds eat from it just fine. So who knows....
That's weird how you had one jump on you right after finding that out about them!
Speaking of Michelle reminds me of some great news. I don't know if you all remember, but a long time ago I shared a letter I'd written to one of Michelle's friends. She'd spent a great deal of time at our house when the kids were growing up. I wrote her a letter I called "broken dreams" after I was saved to tell her about Jesus in the hopes she too would be saved. I've prayed for her for almost 20 years since then. We see her several times a year since she is usually at my grandkids birthday parties. Well guess who was saved and got baptized last Sunday? Yep, it was her! Her name is Carrie, and you'll all be meeting her when we all get to heaven! I'm so thrilled i can hardly stand it! LOL, Anna, I never considered a praying mantis, harmless, because after they mate, the female bites the head off the male. The first time I read that, I was like.....whoa, not cool! I don't know Cheryl, cause Michelle has a metal one that her birds like just fine. We've had one made out of plastic a long time ago (it's the one the bear grabbed and broke lol) I didn't want to get another like that though because the plastic part where the birds stand to eat had some pieces break off of it, so the edges were sharp enough to cut you; and if they'd cut me, I'm sure they'd hurt the birds too. I suspect though that our birds are probably just spoiled. I would think that plenty of people would have the metal ones and not have any problem with them, or else they wouldn't sell so many.
Well, I've gotta run and get to the bible study thread. See you all later!

Wow Cindy, what wonderful news about Carrie! Surely something to be excited about.
This morning I gave the birds here some crumbs from cornbread that we had yesterday and the birds like that.
I won't be planting mums in the ground because of county restrictions, permit to do so and also if I did get a permit there would still be a troublemaker neighbor turn me in for having no permit and inspecter returning... to much trouble to plant trees or flowers, which is too bad because the whole area looks drab. There are fewer inspectors now because an airplane flies over the area and takes pictures at least once a year, so someone sitting at a desk can look at pictures and compare them to see if there are any changes. There is a site, little dresses for Africa, where people make little girl cotton dresses and they are sent to Africa. I am keeping that in mind and will pray about it, however, I do know of a church in Africa where I could talk to someone myself, so that could be a blessing.

Do you have to have a permit to grow a garden too? Why wouldn't the county want you to beautify your own property? Wow, I'd sure get myself into a lot of trouble, with how I like to plant stuff. But, at the same time.........that kind of restriction sure would have saved Ed and I a lot of money, because I would not have been buying the trees, shrubs and plants that we bought, over the years. Not to mention all the river rock and border trimmings. Think about how easy it would be for me to mow, if I didn't have all that to go around. So, I guess there's an upside to everything. OH well.
