The oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and is about to come to Egypt; The idols of Egypt will tremble at His presence, And the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them. Isaiah 19:1
This is about Egypt, perhaps in part, because the Jews were sometimes turn to Egypt...
It is foolish to rely on another country, rather than God. Thus, overthrowing Egypt, is necessary for the Jews to learn that lesson.
The clouds are a signal, judgment is coming to Egypt. There will be no help from Egypt's many man-made idols, as a result, the Egyptians will lack bravery and courage, and instead, they will be terrified.
But more than that:
So I will incite Egyptians against Egyptians; And they will each fight against his brother and each against his neighbor, City against city and kingdom against kingdom. Isaiah 19:2
This sounds eerily like the USA today, but not just us, many other countries as well.
Egypt will be plagued with internal struggles, civil wars, riots etc. Citizens will fight each other, and slay each other, even within families, there will be murderous strife.
This is not a place to look for protection or provision.
Plus the Egyptians will wax and grow even worse!
Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them; And I will confound their strategy, So that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the dead And to mediums and spiritists. Isaiah 19:3
Instead of giving up their worthless false idols, they double down, and add to them, even worse demonic practices. Of course, these are no help, and are eternally dangerous.
Furthermore, this will also happen:
Moreover, I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel master, And a mighty king will rule over them," declares the Lord God of hosts. Isaiah 19:4
There are several different human candidates for this human tyrant, but I can't help but think, the spiritual one might be Satan.
Again, I sadly seem to wonder if this is not soon to be the USA fate also.
Of course, this is specifically about Egypt in that day and age, but history and sin, have a way of repeating... and scripture, can be a warning of what will happen when a people, turn away from God, to their own way.

For thus the Lord has told me, "I will look from My dwelling place quietly Like dazzling heat in the sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest." Isaiah 18:4
Isaiah makes it clear who is speaking "...the Lord..."
At first, God is just going to 'look' He already knows and views the plans of the unrighteous, condemned,evil-minded, idolatrous, unsaved, vicious men.
God is not taken by surprise, and will act when they least expect it, they will be used for... His plans.
He is still and calm, not nervous or upset, His attitude could be likened to sunshine, allowing weeds to grow.
Then one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, for they did not know what they were. 2 Kings 4:39
At first, there is no violent 'storm' which would ruin the 'crop', but only a light dew, which waters them, and allows them to grow nicely.
For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms And the flower becomes a ripening grape, Then He will cut off the sprigs with pruning knives And remove and cut away the spreading branches. Isaiah 18:5
Again, like in 2 Kings 4:39. It will be a disaster for the enemy. They have been allowed to grow, but, not fully matured.
When a gardener or a farmer, cut off the sprigs, no more flowers can grow, and that ends the spreading and ripening of the plant.
This enemy thought they were assured of the victory, their plans were perfected...
BUT GOD....
Instead, this will be the outcome:
They will be left together for mountain birds of prey, And for the beasts of the earth; And the birds of prey will spend the summer feeding on them, And all the beasts of the earth will spend harvest time on them. Isaiah 18:6
The army will be slaughtered, annihilated, demolished... and their bodies, will not be buried, which means, birds and animals will feast upon their bodies.
At that time a gift of homage will be brought to the Lord of hosts From a people tall and smooth, Even from a people feared far and wide, A powerful and oppressive nation, Whose land the rivers divide— To the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, even Mount Zion. Isaiah 18:7
It seems like there was a conversion of many. So instead of the worship of the true God, being decimated, it grew!
Which often happens in Christianity, the more it is persecuted, the more it grows. Thus, when persecution comes, yet again, we ought not despair,or be inconsolably distressed, but rather be calm, and with faith, know God will grow the church.

Alas, oh land of whirring wings Which lies beyond the rivers of Cush Isaiah 18:1
The commentators I read, seem a little 'iffy' on declaring exactly what this means, issues like: which country is this referring to? Most think it is Ethiopia ( or Egypt).
However, they also consider, the words: "the land of whirring wings".... to be most difficult to be certain about, as to, 'exactly', what is that, alluding to?...
Most commentators think it refers to ships.
(haha I think this could be an SOS to Cindy :)
which sends envoys by the sea, Even in papyrus vessels on the surface of the waters. Go, swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, To a people feared far and wide, A powerful and oppressive nation Whose land the rivers divide. Isaiah 18:2
So it does 'seem' to imply, that ambassadors were sent by the sea, in papyrus boats....
( Those would be rather 'unusual' boats...made of papyrus! I am guessing that they were covered with something like pitch).
The message nevertheless is: that God is sending destruction, even tho.... the people are powerful, feared, as well as, oppressive.
When I read these older prophecies, they likewise, often, ring as a warning, to my ear, to my country, the USA.
All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers on earth, As soon as a standard is raised on the mountains, you will see it, And as soon as the trumpet is blown, you will hear it. Isaiah 18:3
This appears to be something that will happen sometimes in the future, everyone will see that judgment is coming... that God is going to bring about! It cannot be missed!
Often prophetic scriptures, are both near ( in the not toooo distant future). and far. ( in the future, quite a long time from the time the prophecy was given).
We must not think, that somehow people today, will escape judgment! Especially, as the world waxes more and more evil in what occurs to me, to worsen, by the day... actually sin and evil appear to increase, almost by the hour!!

We went shopping yesterday, and afterwards, before checking out, ( in Fred Myers)
We went to get a wee snack in the Star Bucks (in the store).
I immediately noticed a young-ish woman sitting, slapping herself, scratching, nodding off, pulling her hair etc.
I discretely pointed her out to Leonard, and we both prayed for her.
She did in fact, almost immediately, become a lot more 'sober' from whatever drug she was on.
Our small ocean town did not do its fireworks this year... but tons of folks bought and brought, their own loud noises to the beach and set them off, until about 3-ish last night ( or actually early early today).... so......... I am a tad tired!!! :(
Not a whole lot of sleep sigh!
And someone on our street ( or so it seemed...very close anyway) was setting off fireworks or firecrackers with a super LOUD BOOM>>>BOOM>>>BOOM>>>>BOOM>>>>BOOM!
That sound went off ( or would it be it went on?) approx. every second for about an hour...or more!!!!
It reminded me of 'Chinese water torture'....
Even with earplugs ( and hundreds of other fireworks going off...)
I could not get away from that regulated.... every second, same sound, a LOUD BOOM....BOOM.....BOOM.....BOOM.....BOOM.
Arrrggghhhh finally it stopped ( mostly)
and I was almost.... happy.... for the other noisy noises!!!

Alas, the uproar of many peoples Who roar like the roaring of the seas, And the rumbling of nations Who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters! Isaiah 17:12
Alas, is not a happy word, it is generally used before some approaching catastrophe.
Thus it is a word denoting great sorrow.
A multitude, a great army, so big it is like the sea, which will be like a cataclysmic flood or tsunami... and the sound of the army is horrendous!
The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters, But He will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind, Or like whirling dust before a gale. Isaiah 17:13
And just when it seems inevitable that ALL is lost, But God.... Tho it does not actually say: 'God',in the verse, the 'He' in the verse, is capitalized ( which indicates it is God. And in any case, it is clear that only God could do this!!
And so, God comforts His people with this message. God can easily impede and prevent any attack at any time.
At evening time, behold, there is terror! Before morning they are no more. Such will be the portion of those who plunder us And the lot of those who pillage us. Isaiah 17:14
So yes, terror may come, and apparently it did, But God... by morning.... and the terror was gone!
Nevertheless, even IF God does not 'seem' to rescue us, in this life, we still trust Him.... IF we die, we get to go home, and be safe with Him for all eternity, forever, and ever and ever.
However, God does often rescue His people, sometimes at the last minute, so we know, it was not anything we did, nor anything someone else did.
Trials and tribulations are bound to happen in this life, dreadful things happen, and Tyrants seem to multiply more than we do!!!
This comfort, may only be to a small remnant, yet, that is all the more proof, it was not we who won the battle, But God!!!
We also in our day,can have hope in this consolation, .

In that day their strong cities will be like forsaken places in the forest, Or like branches which they abandoned before the sons of Israel; And the land will be a desolation. Isaiah 17:9
In that day.. is a day that is coming.
Even, trusting in strong cities is rather foolish, ( a few bombs and the city is desolate)
So back in those days, the trust in strong walls, was not a guarantee of safety.
And it is way beyond foolish, when up against God, No matter if it is Israel, the Canaanites, or any country of our time.
For you have forgotten the God of your salvation And have not remembered the rock of your refuge. Therefore you plant delightful plants And set them with vine slips of a strange god. Isaiah 17:10
Failing to worship God, has left Israel: exposed, defenseless, vulnerable, and unshielded.
God is often called “a Rock,” and a strong tower:
For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God, Psalms 18:31
They were not Thankful for God's protection, in fact, they forgot it, and followed idols.
So, this ingratitude would have consequences, They would plant crops expecting a bountiful harvest, but would be sadly disappointed.
Having turned to idols, they can no longer expect or demand protection, and prosperity. Idols would be like expecting weeds, to be beautiful roses, or peonies, or dahlias.
In fact, it will be worse than that:
In the day that you plant it you carefully fence it in, And in the morning you bring your seed to blossom; But the harvest will be a heap In a day of sickliness and incurable pain. Isaiah 17:11
It is unwise,ill-advised, irrational, foolish, etc. to try to obtain your needs without God. This is something many people in our day, are attempting, and things continue to deteriorate.
And in that day, they reaped a severe punishment.
can we expect anything less?

It will be even like the reaper gathering the standing grain, As his arm harvests the ears, Or it will be like one gleaning ears of grain In the valley of Rephaim. Isaiah 17:5
"It will be"...meaning: It's coming!
This makes me wonder, if this is not also true for my country? We are not really mentioned in Scripture, or if mentioned, only as an aside, and not actually by name.
The reaper cuts down the grain, and takes it away... So will the enemy cut down and remove take captive and move the 10 tribes of Israel.
Yet gleanings will be left in it like the shaking of an olive tree, Two or three olives on the topmost bough, Four or five on the branches of a fruitful tree, Declares the Lord , the God of Israel. Isaiah 17:6
Though the nation will be destroyed ( as a nation) some will be left...a small number. Even in His wrath, God has mercy.
In that day man will have regard for his Maker And his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 17:7
Some of the remnant will turn away from their idols, back to the true God A revival of the true religion among the Ephraimites, after they had followed the Canaanite religious practices. This can be seen as a second mercy from God. Even if all, or mostly all, of their material possessions, and their nation is gone, yet, to have the favor of the true God, is a real blessing, beyond compare.
He will not have regard for the altars, the work of his hands, Nor will he look to that which his fingers have made, Even the Asherim and incense stands. Isaiah 17:8
They will no longer look to, or worship at the altars of the so called gods, which the Syrians worshiped at. They will make a complete break from falsehood, lies and deceptions.
They are done, with all manner of their superstitions, and are ashamed of their folly of caving idols etc.
They will look to the true God, their maker, of Heaven and earth.

The oracle concerning Damascus. "Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city And will become a fallen ruin. Isaiah 17:1
Damascus was a city full of idols, among other things. The destruction and ruin of Damascus is imminent, sealed and certain.
"The cities of Aroer are forsaken; They will be for flocks to lie down in, And there will be no one to frighten them. Isaiah 17:2
Perhaps this was a region of the country, and this city, was under Damascus control and authority. But it will be so deserted and lifeless, that the sheep will not be bothered by people.
"The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, And sovereignty from Damascus And the remnant of Aram; They will be like the glory of the sons of Israel," Declares the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 17:3
Ephraim equals the 10 tribes of Israel in the Northern Kingdom. and what will be their fate for joining with idolaters?
Now in that day the glory of Jacob will fade, And the fatness of his flesh will become lean. Isaiah 17:4
Their glory, prosperity, and power will fade, and perhaps due to lack of food etc. they will become frail and sickly. And many taken captive is also a type of leanness.
Since I only slept about an hour last night, I am not the sharpest pencil for writing today haha

This is the word which the Lord spoke earlier concerning Moab Isaiah 16:13
So this prophecy is about to be given again, it is not the first time, it's been given.
It would have benefited them to have paid attention, the first time, rather than God having to say it again. There had been more than one prophecy. And that would be like God, to give several chances.
Here are some, I am not sure of the timeline, but at least, it shows God gave more than one warning to Moab's existence:
Woe to you, O Moab! You are ruined, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, To an Amorite king, Sihon Numbers 21:29
Plus
“Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, The God of Israel, “Surely Moab will be like Sodom And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah— A place possessed by nettles and salt pits, And a perpetual desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.” Zephaniah 2:9
and
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, A scepter shall rise from Israel, And shall crush through the forehead of Moab, And tear down all the sons of Sheth. Numbers 24:17
And
“Moab is My washbowl; Over Edom I shall throw My shoe; Shout loud, O Philistia, because of Me!” Psalms 60:8
Also
“So I will send fire upon Moab And it will consume the citadels of Kerioth; And Moab will die amid tumult, With war cries and the sound of a trumpet. Amos 2:2
And this is what God said: ( this is not Isaiah's thoughts, but God's decree)
But now the Lord speaks, saying, "Within three years, as a hired man would count them, the glory of Moab will be degraded along with all his great population, and his remnant will be very small and impotent." Isaiah 16:14
Clearly the hireling counted every single day, so as to not have it be one day more. Therefore, the timing is very exact, the time is fixed. Moab’s imminent ruin is coming, and only a remnant would survive.
This is the result of arrogant pride. It might behoove us, in our day, to reconsider pride and boasting.

Gladness and joy are taken away from the fruitful field; In the vineyards also there will be no cries of joy or jubilant shouting, No treader treads out wine in the presses, For I have made the shouting to cease Isaiah 16:10
The normal celebration at harvest time, has been canceled... no singing or dancing, nor joy or gladness.
We see this also in Jeremiah.
So gladness and joy are taken away From the fruitful field, even from the land of Moab. And I have made the wine to cease from the wine presses; No one will tread them with shouting, The shouting will not be shouts of joy. Jeremiah 48:33
There is deeply felt sorrow, from both the prophet Isaiah and the Lord, concerning the necessary and essential judgment of Moab, as expressed in this next verse:
Therefore my heart intones like a harp for Moab And my inward feelings for Kir-hareseth. Isaiah 16:11
Neither God nor Isaiah, are lacking in deep feelings of compassion, and pity.
So it will come about when Moab presents himself, When he wearies himself upon his high place, And comes to his sanctuary to pray, That he will not prevail. Isaiah 16:12
The idol religion of Moab (the temple of Chemosh and other idols) has totally failed. Their idols did not deliver them, they exhausted and wearied them. Still they went to their 'sacred' temple, hoping against hope, but to no avail.

Therefore Moab will wail; everyone of Moab will wail. You will moan for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth As those who are utterly stricken. Isaiah 16:7
There will be a universal lamentation throughout Moab, and there will be great despair and wailing in Moab.
It seems that Raisin cakes were a major export of Moab, and that the Moabites relished them as a delicious delicacy.
Being used to living the high life, being proud and arrogant, and then coming to utter ruin, they are utterly stricken.
Their idols do not offer help or comfort, and they do not have the true God.
For the fields of Heshbon have withered, the vines of Sibmah as well; The lords of the nations have trampled down its choice clusters Which reached as far as Jazer and wandered to the deserts; Its tendrils spread themselves out and passed over the sea. Isaiah 16:8
The fields were their vineyards, which had been highly esteemed, were destroyed.
The vines had extended far, ( even to Jazer) and were very luxuriant.... Now they were ruined.
Therefore I will weep bitterly for Jazer, for the vine of Sibmah; I will drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh; For the shouting over your summer fruits and your harvest has fallen away. Isaiah 16:9
So great will the devastation be, that Isaiah ( and/or perhaps God Himself), will cry for them.
He had a heart of compassion, and felt a deep sorrow for their terrible severe affliction, overwhelming loss, adversity etc. It is extremely sad, the wicked will not turn, but refuse to turn to God,
The judgment is always just, but it did not have to be, but they would NOT!
Now not only is the country in ruins ( buildings etc.) but their way of making money is gone... is famine and more death, not far behind?

"Let the outcasts of Moab stay with you; Be a hiding place to them from the destroyer." For the extortioner has come to an end, destruction has ceased, Oppressors have completely disappeared from the land. Isaiah 16:4
I think the outcasts would mostly be Moabites, but perhaps also, might refer to some or a few exiled Jews, who took refuge in the land of Moab.
The Moabites for the most part, did not act like this to the Jews.... with kindness and compassion.
We learn from this verse, to be kind and compassionate to fugitives and exiles, especially to believers.
The enemies have been removed.
A throne will even be established in lovingkindness, And a judge will sit on it in faithfulness in the tent of David; Moreover, he will seek justice And be prompt in righteousness. Isaiah 16:5
This seems to me to be a future promise in the far distant future for when Jesus is King of Kings, but a shorter prophecy would most likely refer to, Hezekiah who was a type of Christ.
We have heard of the pride of Moab, an excessive pride; Even of his arrogance, pride, and fury; His idle boasts are false. Isaiah 16:6
I just notice how often pride is THE number one offender, from out of which, comes many other sins and evils.
“We have heard of the pride of Moab— he is very proud— Of his haughtiness, his pride, his arrogance and his self-exaltation. Jeremiah 48:29
However, Pride cannot prevent God from overthrowing them! Nor any amount of arsenals! Therefore, idol boasts are false.

Then, like fleeing birds or scattered nestlings, The daughters of Moab will be at the fords of the Arnon. Isaiah 16:2
I can't help but think of what you wrote, it would be better for them to be eaten by a lion, than what the Assyrians would do to them!!
So when a bird's nest is destroyed, they have no place of safety or rest to go to, and they would be exposed to all manner of dangers, with no respite.
I am sure the daughters were in constant terror. Crossing the river would just be another frightful difficulty.
"Give us advice, make a decision; Cast your shadow like night at high noon; Hide the outcasts, do not betray the fugitive. Isaiah 16:3
This reminds me that sometimes people continue to disregard God, as did the Moabites of old, believing in their pride, is to be intellectually superior, freely indulging in licentiousness, enjoying prosperity filled with fraud and injustice etc. ( why does this remind me of USA?)
until... they lose everything... and now are subjects of the cruelty, which they had wielded towards others.
Then...they petition and cry out to God. They want God to do what is right... or rather have pity on them.
Shade is a relief from the hot hot scorching intense heat of the sun... which could be symbolic, for the scorching judgment on them.
They want to be concealed ( from their enemies), and protected.

Thank you... you could tell, I was a 'wee' bit shaky concerning that part huh?
And just before I came to post for today, and look and see if you posted:
I thought: I have a feeling Cindy, may have posted some information to help me out with yesterday's post
And...yup! There you are :) Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time also. I know you have been busier than a one handed wall paper hanger!
Something my adopted parents used to say. They were born in the 1890's and so to hang wall paper back in the day... was a 'real' project, not simplified like today.
You had to put the glue or whatever on the back yourself and then 'hang' it ( without it wrinkling etc. etc. etc.)
I never saw them do it But my dad was a contractor and builder, carpenter etc. so he did a lot of that..,
He not only built homes, shingled roofs, did all the electric ( he had gone to MIT to be an electrician first, and then went into building homes)
But I know wallpapering, was part of the whole process, as well as painting the inside and outside of homes.
So yeah...I know you have been soooooooooo soooooo sooooo busy!!!!
and I do so appreciate your taking time to read my Bible study and adding info... especially....... when I am a bit on shaky ground :)
Thank you

That was interesting information Cindy...thank you for explaining it!!!
Yes, about the sub. the owner, is on a video explaining why he did not want to hire 'old white men' ( on the other hand the old white men, had tons of sub expertise) but he said they would not be 'inspiring' to young people coming up in the field. Well I don't think they are very 'inspired' now.
Plus he fired an expert, who said that 'sub' needed a battery of tests, first.... they immediately fired him, and gave him 10 minutes to get out!!! That went to court in 2018.
None of that was very inspiring.
Not sure why the owner CEO ( who died) did not want to do safety tests? It doesn't make sense, unless it was a 'cost' issue?
But you would think that he would want it to be as safe as possible regardless of the cost.
The company did have pages and pages of wavers, a potential client had to sign to avoid lawsuits.... but not sure that will hold in a court of lawsuits, in this case.
Just why would anyone even want to go to the bottom of the ocean to see the tragedy of the Titanic?
All in all very sad!
I am such an 'unadventurous' type...
Not into rock climbing ( height fright) not into the bottom of the ocean ( depth fright) Not even into planes and flying etc. ( I will wait and 'fly' with Jesus, if I live long enough to be raptured, thank you)

I agree Cindy...others might be treated the same way. And did not 2 of their doctors refuse to operate...and yet... you found one that did, and Chris did NOT bleed out on the operating table.
I have lost so much confidence in a lot of the medical field. I know, there are many good doctors still, and if one is in a car accident or something and need amputation etc etc. then a hospital is still the place to go
But there is also. in my mind, a lot more lies, greed, lack of compassion, in seemingly more doctors, than before...
That I am doing my best to stay away.

That does not sound good! So sad. Apparently the CEO of the sub company ( it's on video) said, he did not want 50 year old white men to be hired....they would not be 'inspiring'.
Apparently, being woke was more important than years of knowledge and expertise.
Also they had an expert give a complete exam of the sub, and he said a bunch of tests should be done first...
they immediately fired him and gave him 10 minutes to clear out.
It seems like maybe this was an accident just waiting to happen! So sad, saying prayers for them.

For the waters of Nimrim are desolate. Surely the grass is withered, the tender grass died out, There is no green thing. Isaiah 15:6
If the water is dried up, then that is a desperate situation, and vegetation will certainly not grow.
Therefore the abundance which they have acquired and stored up They carry off over the brook of Arabim. Isaiah 15:7
Because of the severe water shortage or drought they will have to move, to what sounds like a lesser place.
For the cry of distress has gone around the territory of Moab, Its wail goes as far as Eglaim and its wailing even to Beer-elim. Isaiah 15:8
Distress, crying, wailing is throughout the territory.
And there is also this:
For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; Surely I will bring added woes upon Dimon, A lion upon the fugitives of Moab and upon the remnant of the land. Isaiah 15:9
So many have been killed, the water is full of blood.
Nevertheless, there will be additional calamities... if they have avoided death one way, then, they are met with new dangers ( and most likely death).
Send the tribute lamb to the ruler of the land, From Sela by way of the wilderness to the mountain of the daughter of Zion. Isaiah 16:1
This seems a bit confusing, who is talking to whom? I can't help but think, at least in a spiritual sense, the only real hope for Moab is Jesus ( the lamb of God).
Perhaps, sending a lamb was a way of admitting defeat, and acknowledging subjugation, in those days?
He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute. 2 Samuel 8:2
And like this:
Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and used to pay the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams. 2 Kings 3:4
In any case, they could have avoided this by acknowledging God, and repenting earlier.
The question is: Is there still any hope for them? There does come a time when God is done calling people, and having pity and mercy on them.
I have heard people say in our day and age:
When I am old, I will 'think' about God. That is a very risky position to take... a person can die before they get old, and they may have become so hardened in their hearts and minds, that they have even less interest in God. Plus, God may have given them up to their sins and given up on them, so they no longer can be saved.
Done for today
