Start today you know it going down like Donkey Kong soon Israel orders fresh evacuations in Rafah Israel ordered new evacuations in the southern Gazan city of Rafah on Saturday, which would force tens of thousands more people to flee from imminent attack. The military has now evacuated the eastern third of Rafah, pushing the operation to the edges of the heavily populated central area. Its move has so far fallen short of the full-scale invasion that it had previously threatened. More than 1.4 million Palestinians — half of Gaza’s population — have been sheltering in Rafah, most after fleeing Israel’s offensives elsewhere. Considered the last refuge in the strip, the evacuations are forcing people to return north where areas are devastated by previous Israeli attacks. Biden says Israel could be in breach of international law The scaled-down invasion of Rafah comes in the face of heavy international opposition- including from the US. President Joe Biden who has refused to provide offensive weapons to Israel for the invasion of Rafah. On Friday the Biden administration said Israel's use of US-provided weapons in Gaza likely violated international humanitarian law - but that wartime conditions prevented US officials from determining that for certain in specific airstrikes. The finding of “reasonable” evidence to conclude that the US ally had breached international law protecting civilians in the way it conducted its war against Hamas is the strongest statement that the Biden administration has yet made on the matter. It was released in a summary of a report being delivered to Congress on Friday. But the caveat that the administration wasn't able to link specific US weapons to individual attacks by Israeli forces in Gaza could give the administration leeway in any future decision on whether to restrict provisions of offensive weapons to Israel. The first-of-its-kind assessment, which was compelled by President Joe www.euronews.com/2024/05/10/us-says-israels-use-of-us-arms-likely-violated-international-law

OH OH getting serious Israel widens 'dangerous combat zone' in Rafah Israel has told residents from more areas of the southern Gaza city of Rafah to evacuate and head to an "expanded humanitarian area" in Al-Mawasi, to the north. Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee told Palestinians in additional parts of eastern Rafah — the Rafah and Shaboura camps, and the neighborhoods of Al-Adari, Al-Jeneina, and Khirbet Al-Adas — to leave their homes and head to the coastal area. He also urged people in the Jabaliya and Beit Lahiya districts of northern Gaza to relocate to "shelters west of Gaza City." Adraee warned that heavy strikes were likely in these areas. "You are in a dangerous combat zone," Adraee posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter on Saturday. "Hamas is trying to rebuild its capabilities in the region, and therefore the IDF will work with great force against the terrorist organizations in the region in which you are located, and therefore everyone who is in those areas exposes themselves and their families to danger." www.dw.com/en/israel-hamas-war-idf-tells-more-rafah-residents-to-leave/live-69052786

Many journalists have moved to Rafah as the conflict has ravaged Gaza. One of them, Sherouq Shahin, told CNN at the Shaboura refugee camp in Rafah: “Honestly, we don’t know where to go, we are only packing up our belongings that we were able to collect along the past months, but we don’t know where we are going.” Another journalist, Doaa El Baz, told CNN that “a lot of people were displaced to Rafah as the last refuge we had. It was the last hope for all those displaced from the north and all the way to the south.” “We relayed our message to the world. We were keen to tell the entire world what’s happening. Today, we don’t know who would cover our displacement," El Baz said. Earlier Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces said people in Al Shaboura and several other neighborhoods of Rafah must leave because of Hamas activities edition.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-05-11-24/index.html

Of course this is no brainer EU's Michel says Rafah evacuation orders 'unacceptable' European Council President Charles Michel called Israel's evacuation orders to Palestinians in Rafah "unacceptable" and warned Israel against launching a ground offensive in the border city. "Evacuation orders for civilians trapped in Rafah to unsafe zones are unacceptable," Michel said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. "We call on the Israeli government to respect international humanitarian law and urge not to undertake a ground operation in #Rafah," he said. "Crossing points must be fully functioning and allow essential humanitarian assistance to get through amidst raging famine. #Gaza," he wrote. Michel called for continued talks for a lasting cease-fire in Gaza. He said that the EU is "committed to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution" and called for the "establishment of a viable State of Palestine." www.dw.com/en/israel-hamas-war-idf-tells-more-rafah-residents-to-leave/live-69052786
