A. W. Tozer once stated, For millions of Christians … God is no more real than He is to the non–Christian. They go through life trying to love an ideal and be loyal to a mere principle. Over against all this cloudy vagueness stands the clear scriptural doctrine that God can be known in personal experience. A loving Personality dominates the Bible, walking among the trees of the garden and breathing fragrance over every scene.
Intimacy with God occurs on the most personal level. It is not one–way communication, but two–way—between you and the Savior. It includes a relationship that is sensitive to needs and desires.
God enjoys your fellowship. He knows your needs and longs to fulfill each one as you bring them to Him in prayer. When you grow in your desire to know Him, you become concerned about His desires and seek to please Him out of love.
Intimacy doesn’t just happen. Jesus didn’t just choose Peter, James, and John and immediately take them to the Mount of Transfiguration. Time weathered their relationship. Their view of Christ deepened, and their desire for His fellowship expanded. They were no longer satisfied with a casual knowledge of the Savior. Intimacy had overtaken them and changed the way they would live forever.
Has love for God overtaken you yet?
Father, overtake me with Your love. I truly want to fellowship with You. Foster an intimacy that will change the way I live—forever. Enter His gates
“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise. I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted. May all the kings of the earth praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth.” (Psalm 138:1–4)
