This just happen S&P downgrades Israel's sovereign rating on "heightened geopolitical risk" From CNN's Luciana Lopez S&P Global Ratings cut Israel's sovereign credit rating on Thursday to A+ from AA- on increased geopolitical risk from the war with Hamas and friction with Iran. "In our view, the recent increase in confrontation with Iran heightens already elevated geopolitical risks for Israel," S&P analysts wrote. "We expect a wider regional conflict will be avoided, but the Israel-Hamas war and the confrontation with Hezbollah appear set to continue throughout 2024 – versus our previous assumption of military activity not lasting more than six months." Israel's rating outlook is negative, which means another downgrade could come again at some point. European leaders call for calm after reported Israeli retaliation against Iran The G7 foreign ministers warned against new sanctions on Iran and called all parties to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. Iran has been on high alert for days after Israel vowed to respond to Tehran firing 300 drones and missiles against its territory on Saturday night. www.euronews.com/2024/04/19/live-explosions-as-israel-retaliates-against-iran

A political agreement on the move emerged among the bloc's 27 member countries last month, but technical work has delayed its implementation, prompting many countries - such as France and Belgium - to unilaterally impose national sanctions. Four individuals and two entities responsible for settler violence will as of Friday be blacklisted under the EU's human rights sanctions regime, meaning they will be banned from travelling to the bloc and their financial assets frozen. Now this was part of in Baghdad Iraq Remnants of a missile found southwest of Baghdad Remnants of a missile have been found near Latifiya, southwest of Baghdad. An official with an Iranian-backed militia in Iraq, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorised to speak to journalists, said the missile had been shot down as a result of jamming operations. The Iraqi army doesn't have jamming devices of the type apparently used to down the missile, but Iran has provided such devices to its affiliated militias. It wasn't immediately clear whether the missile was part of an Israeli attack on Iran or part of last weekend's Iranian attack on Israel. In photographs from the scene published by local media, it appeared to be an air-to-surface missile. There were no reports of Iran using air-to-surface missiles in Saturday’s barrage, which included more than 300 drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. www.euronews.com/2024/04/19/live-explosions-as-israel-retaliates-against-iran

Hey Blinken that horse out of barn already LOL! Blinken says G7 is "committed to de-escalating tensions" and holding Iran to account US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the G7 countries were "committed to de-escalating" tensions between Israel and Iran. "We’re committed to Israel’s security. We’re also committed to de-escalating -- to trying to bring this tension to a close," Blinken said during a news conference at the conclusion of the group's meeting in Capri, Italy, hours after a US official told CNN that Israel had launched a military strike on Iran. Well they struck this base not all of it No extensive damage seen at Isfahan air base in satellite images There does not appear to be any extensive damage at an air base purportedly targeted by an Israeli military strike, according to exclusive satellite images obtained by CNN from Umbra Space. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite images were taken around 10:18 a.m. local time. There does not appear to be any large craters in the ground and there are no apparent destroyed buildings. Additional visual satellite imagery will be needed to check for burn scars – which cannot be seen by SAR images -- around the complex. SAR images are not like normal satellite images. The SAR images are created by a satellite transmitting radar beams capable of passing through clouds, like the ones currently preventing satellites from imaging the area. Those radar beams bounce off objects on the ground, and echo back to the satellite. I don't think so UN UN secretary-general pushes for end to retaliation in the Middle East From CNN's Richard Roth UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged both sides to cease retaliating after Israel carried out a military strike on Iran, a spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. "The Secretary-General reiterates that it is high time to stop the dangerous cycle of retaliation in the Middle East," the statement read. Of course they going play it down DUH! Iran plays down reports of Israeli attack "It seems that the American media have been dreaming of an Israeli attack on Iran," Hossein Dalirian, spokesman for the Iranian Space Agency, posted on social media Friday morning after explosions were reported near the city of Isfahan. He added that Iranian air defense systems had shot down three small drones that morning. "Nowhere in the world would this be called an attack," the post said. Earlier, US broadcasters CNN and CBS News had reported, citing a high-ranking US government representative, that Israel had carried out a military strike in Iran. The purported strike on Friday was in response to Iran's drone and missile attack on Israel last weekend, the Washington Post reported, quoting an unnamed Israeli government official. Now this is true I was watching Bloomberg news after intial reports the oil prices settle down little a bit last night Oil prices get short-lived boost from attack on Iran Oil prices jumped overnight after explosions were reported near the Iranian city of Isfahan, but those gains dissipated Friday as officials sought to play down the latest escalation in Middle East tensions. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was down 0.4% at $86.8 per barrel, having earlier spiked more than 3%. US crude futures slipped 0.3% to trade at $82.50, also reversing earlier gains. Israel carried out a military strike inside Iran, a US official told CNN, a move that could push the oil-rich region deeper into conflict. The Israeli military has not commented, and Iran has not identified the source of the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said Thursday that the country would make its “own decisions” when responding to Iran’s unprecedented airstrikes last weekend, most of which were intercepted. Yeah yeah I believe him NOTTT LOL! Iran says no retaliation planned, as both sides seek distance from Isfahan attack AFP) Iran has no plan for immediate retaliation against Israel, a senior Iranian official said Friday, as officials in Jerusalem indicated that an alleged drone attack on a city south of Tehran was meant to send a signal rather than cause damage. The Iranian official also cast doubt on whether Israel was behind the attack in Isfahan, despite comments from some Israeli politicians practically accepting responsibility. Together with a subdued response from official Iranian media organs, the senior official’s comments indicated that Tehran may be uninterested in risking war to make good on threats that it would attack Israel should it retaliate for a weekend missile and drone attack, and was seeking a way to avoid being held to the bellicose promises. www.timesofisrael.com/iran-says-no-retaliation-planned-as-both-sides-seek-distance-from-isfahan-attack/

For now the war is averted I think because Passover is coming up Iran and Israel have averted an all-out war – for now The scope of Israel’s military response to Iran’s first-ever direct attack on the country remains murky. Israeli officials have yet to publicly acknowledge responsibility for reported overnight explosions in parts of Iran on Friday. Tehran has dismissed these as attacks by “tiny drones” that were shot down by its air defense systems. Iran may be downplaying what was likely to have been a significant but limited Israeli attack, but that seems to be secondary to the larger forces at play. What is plain to see is that both Iran and Israel are keen to wrap up the most dangerous escalation between the two regional powerhouses to date. edition.cnn.com/2024/04/19/middleeast/iran-israel-averted-war-for-now-analysis-mime-intl/index.html

Is this good idea MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT! German warship ends Red Sea mission to protect shipping The frigate Hessen of the German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, has completed its mission in the Red Sea, a post on X, formerly Twitter, said Saturday. The Bundeswehr said Hessen, which had a crew of 240, left the operational area early on Saturday morning. Hessen was sent to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden as part of the EU's Aspides mission to help protect commercial shipping amid attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who control much of war-torn Yemen. The Houthis have attacked dozens of ships in response to Israel's military action against the Hamas militant group in Gaza. The Red Sea is home to the most important sea route from Asia to Europe, which runs through the Suez Canal. As a result of the attacks, major shipping companies have been avoiding the Red Sea route and instead taking the longer, dangerous and more expensive route around southern Africa. The German Defense Ministry said Hessen had successfully countered Houthi drones and missiles on four occasions and safely escorted 27 ships through the waterwa www.dw.com/en/middle-east-updates-several-hurt-in-iraqi-base-bombing/live-68877092

AH I take IDF for 1,000 Alex LOL! Live. The base of Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces is struck, but by whom? One member of the anti-American Shiite militia group was killed in the attack and eight injured. It blames the US but Washington denies carrying it out. Iraqi authorities said on Saturday that they are investigating an explosion that struck a base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces, a coalition of Iran-allied militias, overnight. Militia officials had initially described the explosion at the Kalsu military base north of Babylon - a former US base that was handed over to the Iraqi military in 2011 - as an airstrike, blaming it on U.S. forces. The U.S. Central Command denied in a statement that it had carried out any airstrikes in Iraq. The PMF in a statement Saturday afternoon described the incident as an "attack" but did not blame any specific party. www.euronews.com/2024/04/20/injuries-sustained-as-explosions-reported-at-iraq-military-base

BOO HOO! Palestinian Authority president criticizes US veto of UN membership bid Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told the official Palestinian news agency Wafa that the US decision to veto a Palestinian request for full United Nations membership was a “blatant aggression” against the Palestinian people and against what the international community wants. “The United States has violated all international laws and has broken all the promises it talks about regarding the two-state solution and achieving peace in the region,” he said. “The current American administration not only reneged on its promises and commitments, but also allowed Israel to weaken the Palestinian National Authority,” he continued. Abbas told Wafa the positions of US President Joe Biden's administration have created “unprecedented anger” among the Palestinian people and in the region, which “could push the region towards greater instability and enhance chaos and terrorism.” On Thursday, the US vetoed a resolution proposing the Palestinian request. Probably NONEEE LOL! Iran-Israel tensions: Which countries can influence Iran? Israel has vowed a response to Iran's massive missile and drone attack over the weekend, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying in a meeting of Israel's war cabinet on Wednesday that the country will do "everything necessary to defend itself." In the early hours of Sunday morning, Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in an unprecedented strike launched directly from Iranian territory. Almost all of the drones, rockets and cruise missiles launched by Iran were intercepted by Israeli air defenses with the help of the US, UK, and several Arab countries. Iran has said the attack was in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building in Damascus, Syria that killed several high-ranking members of the Revolutionary Guards. As Israel considers its options, Iran is warning that "the slightest action" by Israel against "Iran's interests" will result in a "harsh, comprehensive and painful response." they trading strikes Israeli military and Hezbollah trade strikes From CNN's Mia Alberti in Beirut and Tamar Michaelis The fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that has flared since October 7 continued on Saturday. The Israel Defense Forces said about 10 launches were detected from southern Lebanon, and sirens were activated five times on Saturday morning. Later Saturday, Hezbollah said it targeted two buildings used by the IDF in Shlomi, northern Israel, in response to strikes in Aita al-Shaab and Kfar Kila. The militant group said the Israeli strikes targeted "civilian homes." The Lebanese National News Agency also reported a house was destroyed in the strike in Aita al-Shaab.
