I wanted to give people a number of different bible reading plans to choose from. This plan is for reading a passage from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament each day.
This reading plan is made to read the bible in one year. If you try this and find it's just too much for you to read in one day, don't worry about it. There is nothing set in stone that says we must read the bible through once every year! So look at this schedule as a suggestion, not a command. For example, if you find that 3 chapters a day is too much, then simply keep track of where you leave off and start there the next day. In other words, follow the plan, but not the amount per day. That way you're still reading in chronological order, it will simply take you longer than one year to finish and there's nothing at all wrong with that.
Some tips for when you read your Bible
1. Set aside a specific time to spend in the Word with the Lord every day, and stick to that time. While you may have to try out a few different times to find the one that works best for you, once you've made your choice, stick to it. Don't make the mistake of assuming you'll read it "at some point" during the day "when you have time". Often, that time never comes when we do that. Remember, the Lord is supposed to be first in our lives, before anyone or anything else, including ourselves. Therefore, He deserves and demands that we make time to spend with Him in His Word daily.
2. Pray before you begin to read, asking the Lord to guide you and to teach you what He wants you to learn that day , and to help you apply it to your life so you can live a life worthy of His calling.
3. Once you begin reading your assigned portion for that day, continue to talk to Him. Ask Him questions about what you're reading, make comments to Him about it. Remember that He's right there with you, and wants to discuss it with you and reveal Himself to you through His Word.
4. Don't be afraid to write in your bible. Take notes and highlight what stands out to you. Those who use computer bible programs can often put notes next to the verse itself and that's wonderful. If you can't though, then keep a notebook specifically for your time in the Word, and write your notes in there, always starting with a heading of what scriptures you're reading that day so you'll be able to make sense of your notes later on. Keep in mind that you're not reading His Word just to learn a history lesson, although it is most certainly that too. You're reading it in order to get to know the Lord better and to have a closer more intimate relationship with Him, and to allow Him to cleanse and change you with His Word.

That way you're still reading in chronological order, it will simply take you longer than one year to finish and there's nothing at all wrong with that.
Some tips for when you read your Bible
1. Set aside a specific time to spend in the Word with the Lord every day, and stick to that time. While you may have to try out a few different times to find the one that works best for you, once you've made your choice, stick to it. Don't make the mistake of assuming you'll read it "at some point" during the day "when you have time". Often, that time never comes when we do that. Remember, the Lord is supposed to be first in our lives, before anyone or anything else, including ourselves. Therefore, He deserves and demands that we make time to spend with Him in His Word daily.
2. Pray before you begin to read, asking the Lord to guide you and to teach you what He wants you to learn that day , and to help you apply it to your life so you can live a life worthy of His calling.
3. Once you begin reading your assigned portion for that day, continue to talk to Him. Ask Him questions about what you're reading, make comments to Him about it. Remember that He's right there with you, and wants to discuss it with you and reveal Himself to you through His Word.
4. Don't be afraid to write in your bible. Take notes and highlight what stands out to you. Those who use computer bible programs can often put notes next to the verse itself and that's wonderful. If you can't though, then keep a notebook specifically for your time in the Word, and write your notes in there, always starting with a heading of what scriptures you're reading that day so you'll be able to make sense of your notes later on. Keep in mind that you're not reading His Word just to learn a history lesson, although it is most certainly that too. You're reading it in order to get to know the Lord better and to have a closer more intimate relationship with Him, and to allow Him to cleanse and change you with His Word.
