I was watching The Walton's last night and the Lord showed me something I wanted to share with you all. On the show, one little girl, doubtful about the subject, asked another one how she knew something was really true, and without the slightest hesitation, the other girl answered, "because my Daddy told me so!" That just sort of kept ringing in my head and all I could think of was how true that statement was when spoken about our Heavenly Daddy. The world tells us lie after lie, and many of them sound sensible and even good. Many of them we want to believe. But, if we want to know the real Truth about something, there is one person we can always go to that will always tell us the Truth - our Heavenly Father. Of course, He has also blessed us with His Word, which as He says, is the Truth.
It really made me feel good too. See, the Lord often speaks to me about what I'm doing, or reading, or watching on TV. It's comforting to know He's always right there with me, no matter what. But not only that, because I think at times we tend to think maybe He's there, but not really paying attention, and that's not true. He's paying very close attention to everything concerning us, all the time - even the TV show we're watching. Often, our next thought is that ok, He's paying attention, but it's only so He can catch us sinning, and again, that's simply not at all true! His Word tells us that He is always with us, but it also tells us that He is "familiar" with all our ways. That means that He doesn't just know about them, but knows every detail intimately.
You know what that reminds me of? Of when I fell in love, because then, all my thoughts were centered on him. No matter where I was or what I was doing, my thoughts always came right back to him. At work, I couldn't wait to get home so I could see him, and when I was with him, I think a bomb could have gone off and I probably wouldn't have noticed. When I'd be driving somewhere, or out doing something, and he'd surprise me by showing up wherever I was, my heart would leap inside me for joy. (it still does by the way!) I took time getting dressed each day as I wanted to look good for him, just in case I saw him. It seemed like my whole world was centered around him.
I bet you felt the same way when you fell in love too! Remember those days? Well, that's how it is with the Lord and each of us. He loves us! He says He not only loves us, but He delights in us! He says His banner over us is love. (Song of Solomon 2:4) What a wonderful picture of His love for each of us. Today, we raise banners to show devotion to various causes and wave them at famous people we love. It's a way to let others know that we're not ashamed of the person or cause our banner represents and that we're dedicated to that person or cause. When God says His banner over us is love, He's saying He's not ashamed to love us; that He's dedicated to us and delights in us and wants everyone in Heaven and earth to know it!
What I said before about how He always speaks to me about what I'm doing, or reading, or watching on TV, is also true for you. Because He loves us, He is always speaking to us, the problem is that most don't stop to listen to Him or even expect to hear from Him. Many people think their relationship with Him is more like a monologue, but it's not meant to be. I've noticed that it seems to be those who know His Word well, who spend time daily with Him studying it that are also used to hearing His Voice. So if this isn't something you've experienced, get into His Word and talk to Him about it. Expect Him to answer you. Remember, He loves you and has no desire to remain anonymous. Keep in mind too though, that when you do hear His Voice, it will always agree with His Word completely. So if you think you hear something from Him that doesn't line up with His Word, it's not Him. He will always speak the Truth and will always speak with love.
That same God who loves us and is dedicated to us, who pays that much attention to us constantly, even though most of the time we're totally unaware of it and of Him, always tells us the Truth. He actually wants us to know the Truth and to know where we can find it and who it's from. Just like that little girl on TV, knowing our Daddy's love for us, we can know without the slightest hesitation or smallest doubt, that when He tells us something, it's the Truth, and one of the first things He tells us is how very much He loves us!
What a wonderful Daddy we have!
Psalm 139:1–12 —O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. *You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. *You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. *Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. *You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. *Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. *Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? *If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. *If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, *even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. *If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” *even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. *
Psalm 147:11 —the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. *
Zephaniah 3:17 —The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” *
