A barrage of Hamas rockets into central Israel

STATEMENT BY CONCERNED CHRISTIANS
IN RESPONSE TO THE CASE LAUNCHED BY SOUTH AFRICA
AGAINST ISRAEL IN THE ICJ
We the South African Christian leaders,
strongly oppose the decision
by the South African government
to launch the case against Israel,
and demand it be rescinded immediately (“the Decision”)
as it is without merit
and detrimental to South Africa’s national interests for the following reasons:
1. We had hoped and prayed that our government
would use its influence as a peacemaker
to bring about a meaningful and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Regrettably it has elected not to do so
and instead has chosen sides.
We, as Christians deplore the loss of innocent lives,
be it the Jews, Palestinians, Christians or any other people
but are strongly opposed to the Decision.
2. The Decision is fundamentally flawed.
The unprovoked attack against Israel’s civilians included
rape, mutilation, burning and other, hitherto, unimaginable horrors.
This was a deliberate genocide attempt
and is supported by Hamas’ charter
calling for the total destruction of Israel.
Gaza and West Bank celebrations following the attack
and Hamas’ repeated statements
that it seeks to carry out similar October 7 massacres
whenever it has the opportunity.
Hamas and other fundamentalist organizations
before and after October 7 have openly called for
the killing of every Jew and Israeli world wide,
whilst DIRCO stated in our country's position,
that the South African government is opposed to all forms of terrorism
in February 2023, we call on our government to return to that stance.
Israel does not seek to wipe Gaza or the Palestinians off the face of the map.
It seeks to defend itself.
This is a case of victim blaming by our government.
3. The Decision is not in the best interest of
South Africa and its citizens.
Detrimental political and economic consequences
are likely to follow from the fact
that many of South Africa’s major trading partners,
including the US, Germany and Britain
regard the Decision as an endorsement
of the atrocities committed by Hamas .
South Africa is suffering from debilitating
unemployment levels, high levels of poverty
and is fast becoming an uninvestable, failed country.
We urge the Government to focus on this key issue,
which impacts every South African,
especially our most vulnerable citizens.
4. The absence of a public condemnation from South Africa
regarding Hamas's actions in Gaza,
raises significant concerns.
This silence is more conspicuous
given the recent hosting of a delegation
from Iran and Hamas in South Africa.
Such actions could be interpreted as
direct support to Hamas's tactics,
including using civilians as human shields
and diverting aid for military purposes
and the building of tunnels,
rather than humanitarian relief
sent to the Palestinian people,
which was intercepted by Hamas.
This stance raises questions about South Africa's position
on these critical human rights issues
and its role in international diplomacy.
Our government's lead counsel in the case,
is a trustee of an International NGO,
‘Lawyers for Palestine’,
which appears to be the source of much of their application.
5. The slogan from Hamas
“From the river to the sea” means
Israel must become Palestine
and Jews must be destroyed.
Aside from denying the Jews a right to a homeland
in the aftermath of the holocaust,
where does this leave us Christians?
Places of worship for Christians
in the Holy Land will be destroyed.
South Africa is not a Muslim country.
The majority of its people are Christians.
The South African government has prejudiced
the interests of its own people
to achieve the political and religious objectives of others.
The government is also aware that
the one sided approach it has adopted has placed
its Jewish citizens at risk
by inciting antisemitism
as well as eroding the freedom of religion of Christians
in South Africa.
6. Why did the Government not speak out
against numerous atrocities committed against innocent civilians,
as well as bringing hostages home.
This long list includes
Syria, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mozambique, Afghanistan.
Our government has been inconsistent
in upholding international law,
assisting Omar al-Bashir to evade arrest?
Additionally, why has South Africa chosen to
ignore Security Council Resolution number 1373
which requires all UN countries,
including South Africa to take steps against,
let alone support, terrorist organizations like Hamas.
7. The list goes on.
The fact of the matter is that
South Africa has demonstrated capricious subjectivity
by the Decision and has elected to engage in “lawfare”
to achieve the political and religious agendas
of extremists whose interests
are not aligned with those of the majority
of South African citizens or our national interest.
8. We reiterate our prayer for peace
and deeply regret our government's Decision to take sides
and to do the bidding of
those who have sinister and ulterior political
and religious objectives
and who have no genuine interest in the rule of law.

But it was the most here I have ever seen, and the flakes were BIG!!!
But alas!

the rain came and washed it away. :(
We only get at most, maybe 3 days of snow,
on the coast here in Oregon...
soooooo that was one....
The weather forecast is suggesting snow Thur and Fri.
we shall see!

What lovely photos!
We are doing well with homeschooling.
We are studying a lot from Dr. Jason Lisle's books
Christian young earth astrophysicist
Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson Harvard grad....genetics ( also Christian young earth Creationist)
and so on....
It is still a little hard to stick to a 'real structured'
daily plan...
sooooo we kind of wing it....
which do we want to study on any given day.
we may study 2 or 3 subjects
and
we have decided that Christian fiction qualifies,
as literature class lol.
Well.....it is!
So we do that every couple of days
and it depends on how I am feeling
because he can also do independent study on his own.
Frankly, he could easily take his GED and pass right now.
We are kind of.... almost doing,.... beginning college learning.
I also give quizzes on our Wed. night Bible study
( with Pastor Chris at Calvary church).

BTW you know my neighbor son there is possiblty that he may graudate from that trade school this spring he is that good in trade school education so he study pretty hard doing project 3 days a week with his father who window installer so possiblty he may start working this summer

Devon goes to HS just ONLY for band...
When he dropped out to do homeschooling,
his mom ( our daughter) got a letter from the High school
stating that 6 or 7 (?) teachers
had nominated him for the National Honor Society....
However, we did not bother to follow through,
as he was going to do homeschooling... period.
He is a smart young man,
but a LOT of what was being taught
in his HS had little to do with any real subject matters
and a LOT to do with political correctness
( toxic white males, critical race theory, save the environment, evolution, big bang, LBGTQ), a LOT of weird sexual videos etc. etc.
Devon is a very sweet, kind, thoughtful, 'patient' young person
but he was truly getting so frustrated
on several occasions with some of the videos
he stayed behind to speak with the teachers.
One was either about evolution or the big bang ( I forgot which).
He asked the teacher:
why the producers never gave any of the resources,
for the 'information'?
He also mentioned what was said:
was just repetitive
without much substance
( he knew he might begin to lose he straight A's....
but his patience had run dry LOL)
Soooo it was 'almost' to the point,
that if he stayed home and did absolutely 'nothing'
he would still be 'ahead'!!!!
On his own he is memorizing a LOT of scripture,
and it's application,
because he is a very good self learner too!
So that is helpful to me,
as I will be 79 this year,
and at least for me,
that means a LOT of naps
and more naps, and well.....more naps haha

That sounds perfect Barbara! What a tremendous blessing you and Devon are to each other! (and what a precious gift the Lord has given you in Devon!) The very best thing (in my opinion) that you're doing is encouraging him to think and research to find the answer. Plus, he has the Holy Spirit so he can actually get the right answer when he does that. Most kids don't have a clue. I know...they all think they're grown up at his age. Eli does too, but then i tell him he's no where near grown up and won't be for another 10 or more years!  But seriously, the more you help him practice "how to think", the better chance he has of learning the truth about things when he's searching for answers later in his life. He will also have a much better ability to teach his own children if the Lord tarries and even his wife. (I hope the Lord doesn't tarry, but that's up to Him.) That's the big thing I tried to teach my kids during the times I home schooled them. I wasn't much interested in getting them to memorize dates and names etc. I wanted them to know what, where, when, how and why and most of all how they could find the answer to those questions on their own. ... Come to think of it, that's what I try to teach people to do with the Bible too. I don't want them to just come to me when they can't figure something out. I want to teach them how to find the answers on their own, not just give them the answers. I guess I've always been that way.
I also think it's super important to get a kid interested in learning. If a subject bores them to death, they're not going to remember anything they're taught about it. So I always looked for ways to grab their attention and make them want to learn about that subject. It looks like you do the very same thing! That's so cool! I'll never forget when I was home schooling Christopher for a while for high school. One afternoon, we were just finishing up when several of his friends came over. They sat quietly while we finished and I was amazed at how quiet they were being. When I was done though, the quiet ended and they all started pleading with me to keep going! I was so surprised! We had been studying history, and I thought the only thing on their minds was to get out and go watch girls LOL. So I spent the next hour teaching Chris and all of his friends more history and they ate it up like it was their favorite desert. During that time my older son, Jon, came in and he joined in too. Afterward he begged me to home school him as well! All that interest just because I'd done all I could to make the subject interesting to kids of high school age. That sure let me know I was doing something right. Other times when I'd home schooled one of my kids, I'd told myself that if they were interested in the subject enough to want to find out more about it on their own, that's how I'd know I'd done my job. If they weren't there yet, then I needed to work harder.
Honestly though, I enjoyed it just as much as the kids, because i was teaching stuff I didn't know either. So we were all learning together. Again, it sounds like that's what you and Devon do too, at least some of the time anyway. That's awesome you're able to do that for him!

That was such a wonderful insight Cindy!!!
I think you probably did better in the.... making it interesting dept :)!!!
I am not 100% certain, that I always pick something he is interested in,
but rather chose something that I am interested in. haha
However, I am sometimes surprised, at just how much in depth,
he not only 'got it'...
but went on to research it deeper
and then
can talk about it to other Christians in church...
but also his agnostic/atheists teen friends.
and he not only gives his friends,
accurate 'science' facts,
but a LOT of scripture he has memorized...
But it is not in a 'show off' way,
but in a sincere, wanting them to be saved.
He read to me conversations he was having online with one of his best friends...
his replies were as good as....
and in many cases, better than, I would have said...
But here is the deal
I am not super fond of this friend of his...
and Devon was during the beginning of the 'chat'
very frustrated
and almost called his friend...
on what was his friends real motive
( he actually typed it out and was going to send it........
BUT......
he stopped
and prayed and waited
to see what God might put on his heart, or verse etc.
( not wanting to throw pearls before swine)
If it had been me,
I would have shut down the chat almost immediately
( well, 'maybe' I would have 'tried' to do it nicely...haha)
But Devon prayed and then carried on.
And this friend is getting more and more serious
about God, Jesus, salvation etc.
and asking very real and serious questions to Devon.
He reads to me all of the conversations,
and I am amazed!
But Devon goes on Wed. to the older men's Bible study
with his grandpa
then to Pastor Chris's Bible study at night
When it not so dark at night, we have also gone on Thur
nights to another Bible study
and since a young child he has only missed church 3 times
in about 10 or 12 years.
And, he takes notes as well as I do.
Sooooo I guess God's word, is really really sinking into his heart and mind.
Our other pastor once said to him
that when Devon does all the online streaming
and slides....
( Devon has to co-ordinate very carefully the timing
with what the pastor is saying ....
when putting up the slides
while also, doing the streaming)
but Pastor John once said,
it was like Devon was co-preaching with him...
well.... otherwise the slides would be:
too late or too early
or mixed up or not at all
haha.

True 7....He has been doing the streaming for 2 years plus some, before that he was one the greeters at church for about 3 years...
In fact,
when we go to the Baptist church,
where he does the streaming and slides,
when he is done streaming for the two services
( early service and the later one)...
he scampers down from the audio/electronics room,
and hurries off to greet people leaving,
and the 2nd service coming in, and then when they leave.
( we alternate one Sunday we go to the Baptist church
then following Sunday, we go to Calvary)
But yes, it is a good, start for streaming services
the Baptist church
have a very very elaborate, complex, spendy
mess of electronics....
which he knows how to run.
So you are right, if he wanted to go into that industry,
he has a heads up!
However, IF the Lord tarries...
( I hope He does not, but His timing.... not mine)
There is a chance...
he might go into the ministry....
I think both pastors of each church,
have their eye on him
( be they hoping for a youth pastor some day or what)
Devon is a very good people person
has been in Love with our Lord for years now
and studies His word, got baptized a few years ago etc.
However, he composes some really really good music.
and like most teens his age
does play some video games like minecraft
( but that is getting less and less).

But seriously, the more you help him practice "how to think", the better chance he has of learning the truth about things when he's searching for answers later in his life. He will also have a much better ability to teach his own children if the Lord tarries and even his wife. (I hope the Lord doesn't tarry, but that's up to Him.) That's the big thing I tried to teach my kids during the times I home schooled them. I wasn't much interested in getting them to memorize dates and names etc. I wanted them to know what, where, when, how and why and most of all how they could find the answer to those questions on their own. ... Come to think of it, that's what I try to teach people to do with the Bible too. I don't want them to just come to me when they can't figure something out. I want to teach them how to find the answers on their own, not just give them the answers. I guess I've always been that way.
