I thought I should let folks know that I am a certified Biblical Counselor. I have been certified by the Center for Biblical Counseling AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors) since April of 2001. I don't charge for what I do as I don't think it's right to charge people to teach or help them know how to deal with life God's way. I know most counselors do though because they feel it makes people appreciate it more and take it more seriously. They're most likely right, but still, I just can't do it, so I try instead to tell people what I require--the accountability part, right off the bat and let them know that if they're not willing to do the work and put in the time, then it's pointless to even begin. (and of course, I try to let them know how much time a day or week or whatever will be required of them at that time)
So there is no confusion, I am not just a "Christian Counselor". I am a Biblical counselor, also called Nouthetic Counselor. The difference between the two is that a Christian counselor is someone that has bought into the worlds system and beliefs about counseling, psychology etc and tries to meld it with their beliefs as a Christian. A Biblical Counselor on the other hand, is someone who believes that God meant it when He said that His Word was fully and completely sufficient, and all that we could ever need, for our life here.
2 Peter 1:3 —His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. *
Now, obviously, if you have an actually physical problem, such as a brain injury, you need a medical doctor for help. Biblical Counselors do not suggest that there is no place for medicine. Far from it! However, we do not believe in all the theories that the world has come up with and labeled "psychology and psychiatry". If those truly worked, then once a person went to them for depression, or whatever, then within a reasonable amount of time, that person would be cured. That's not what happens though. Instead people go for therapy all their lives and take medications that mess with their hormones and brains and they're still depressed! Neither psychology nor psychiatry, have a very good success rate and most of what they do is based on "theory" not on facts. With Biblical Counseling however, there is a very high success rate. Of course that success depends entirely on how committed the person is to getting better, but those who do commit to it, actually do get better and no longer need "therapy". Plus, if they ever do get to a point where they feel the need again, they know that the best counselor in the universe is right thee with them all the time and He doesn't charge a thing either. I'm sure you've heard of Him....you know, Jesus Christ, King of Kings, Wonderful Counselor.....that's my boss and I help folks know that they can trust Him!
Isaiah 9:6 —For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. *
This isn't something I like to advertise but by putting the information here, the folks that the Lord leads to see it will know and can contact me if they want counseling. Now that we have this board I can do this in a private forum instead of through email.
I don't do this lightly--it's very serious to me. When I first got my certificate, I didn't feel qualified enough to counsel anyone--as I felt that I need a lot more biblical knowledge then I had then, regardless of what they said. My God Father, Pastor Rod Franklin, has been a counselor for almost as long as I've been alive and if I was going to follow in his footsteps, I wanted to be as good as he was and his shoes are pretty big and hard to fill! Pastor Rod Franklin has been the head of many discipleship programs as well as counselor in many churches and Christian organizations and in the Air Force as well. Even now, he's the Director of Adult Discipleship and counselor at his church and is often taking off all over the world on mission trips. I don't think he'll ever slow down lol. (I said "even now" because if I'm ancient, he's gotta be even more ancient, as he was the father of my best friend when I was 11 years old, which is how I met him ) It's my prayer that some day in Heaven, when I finally see my God Father again, that I will have made him proud of me, which I know I can only do by making our Lord proud of me.
If you are interested in counseling, please just send me a private message and let me know. Then we can discuss it and you can decide if it's really what you want.
2 Corinthians 9:8 —And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. *
Psalm 19:7–14 —The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. *The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. *The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. *They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. *By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. *Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. *Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. *May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. *
