WOW I did't hear about this until this MORNINGGG Niger’s army has declared allegiance to the defence and security forces that moved against President Mohamed Bazoum, as demonstrations both in favour and against the coup plotters take place in the capital, Niamey. In a social media post on Thursday, Bazoum said “hard-won gains” in establishing democracy in Niger will be protected. Foreign Minister Hassoumi Massoudou has called on “all democrats and patriots” to make this “perilous adventure” fail. Wedneday’s coup has been condemned by regional and international leaders. www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2023/7/27/live-unrest-in-niger-as-army-backs-soldiers-who-announced-a-coup

Well I went on France 24 to see what going on Niger's army command declares support for coup launched by presidential guard The army needed to "preserve the physical integrity" of the president and his family and avoid "a deadly confrontation ... that could create a bloodbath and affect the security of the population", it said in a statement signed by the army chief of staff. President Mohamed Bazoum earlier urged democratic forces in the country to resist the power grab, as western officials said the status of the coup attempt was unclear. The soldiers said in a late-night televised address that Bazoum had been stripped of power and the republic's institutions had been suspended, marking the seventh coup in West and C www.france24.com/en/africa/20230727-niger-s-army-command-declares-support-for-military-coup

I think whole thing started yesterday Niger soldiers say President Bazoum has been removed, borders closed Soldiers claimed to have overthrown Niger's government on Thursday after members of the Presidential Guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum. Disgruntled members of the elite Presidential Guard sealed off access to the president's residence and offices in the capital Niamey on Wednesday, and after talks broke down "refused to release the president", a presidential source said. "We, the defence and security forces ... have decided to put an end to the regime" of President Bazoum, said Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane in a televised address, surrounded by nine other uniformed soldiers. They said "all institutions" in the country would be suspended, borders were closed, and a curfew had been imposed "until further notice". www.france24.com/en/live-news/20230726-niger-soldiers-say-president-bazoum-has-been-removed-borders-closed
