So the word of the Lord to them will be, precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there," That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive. Isaiah 28:13
God imitates the drunken leaders mockery... and that He would instruct them in a foreign land. But now the lessons will be punishment, for their ingratitude. They will not make progress when they can't even understand the basics, in this foreign language...not even line upon line. So then they would not be able to hear or obey, and would be punished.
Therefore, hear the word of the Lord , O scoffers, Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, Isaiah 28:14
They really should listen to the word of God!!
Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a pact. The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by, For we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception." Isaiah 28:15
The idea is they can live securely because death will pass them by. Or another way to look at it is: They have believed falsehood and deception.
This kind of reminds me of people today.
Some think technology is going to save them.. They will merge with AI and live forever, So what's the worry?
or the right politics will save them if all countries unite,
or if they do certain deeds,
and
they don't believe in God's word because they are so smart that they don't fall for fairy tales' and which they consider to be childish line upon line.. etc.
Therefore, many people today are not anxious about death or Hell.
They think they have a safe protection in falsehood and security in false doctrines, and ideas.

Therefore thus says the Lord God , "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. Isaiah 28:16
God is going to give the only sure protection, Jesus Christ. And oh by the way, God gives us knowledge:
For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little. Isaiah 28:10
Jesus was a 'tested' stone, no matter how much pressure was applied to Him, He was solid, and we can rest and have confidence in Him, He never would fail any testing.
He is the strongest, most highly valued foundation, for us who believe in Him, to rely on. Jesus will be the church's firm foundation.
This is a sure prophecy of the coming of Jesus.
"I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place. Isaiah 28:17
When Jesus rules, justice will rule supreme, as opposed to the lies these rulers participated in.
Isaiah uses the metaphor of a building for the church, and a carpenter, for Jesus building it. A carpenter uses a measuring line, so everything will be exact, and the building will be perfect and solidly secure...
So then Jesus will use justice in the millennial kingdom, which will contrast and be unlike the way many men have ruled.
"Your covenant with death will be canceled, And your pact with Sheol will not stand; When the overwhelming scourge passes through, Then you become its trampling place. Isaiah 28:17
Relying on foreigners and their own strength, will utterly fail. The time is coming when all the wicked will have to be judged by God.
Done for today.

Awesome! Israel's enemies should be reading their Bibles. When I finished Isaiah, I read Jeremiah, and then Obadiah and I'm now starting Amos. If her enemies read these books it should cause them to repent and ask the Lord for Mercy, but we know they won't. Their hearts are too hard.

"As often as it passes through, it will seize you; For morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night, And it will be sheer terror to understand what it means." Isaiah 28:19
There will be no delay in the consequences, and it will be continuous, and very full of distress.
The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in. Isaiah 28:20
For sure this is an uncomfortable situation. It was an old saying, and in this case, could mean they have an alliance with foreigners, who are not well prepared and insufficient to secure them.
True security is with God alone.
For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon, To do His task, His unusual task, And to work His work, His extraordinary work. Isaiah 28:21
God is going to judge, and it is strange because, yes, He will do so, against even His people. But they could repent, and escape. This next verse, could be one we today, ought to take note of.
And now do not carry on as scoffers, Or your fetters will be made stronger; For I have heard from the Lord God of hosts Of decisive destruction on all the earth. Isaiah 28:22
'Mocking' and 'scoffing' were prevailing sins then, as it is today. People like to think they are so much more intelligent, advance, on a higher level, more evolved, etc. but in fact, there is no difference, except maybe going backwards.
If they ceased their mocking of God, it would greatly mitigate the severity of their punishment, but I do not see that happening, because hearts continue to grow colder and harder.

Thanks! Speaking about "no delay" that used to confuse me because it feels like God is delaying. The truth however is that God's ways aren't our ways and He doesn't think the way we do. He doesn't think like us because He isn't tainted with any sin, much less full of sin like we are. Our minds and hearts are corrupted, full of deceit, and cunning. (Jer 17:9 etc.) Plus, God knows everything, while the best of us only knows a very small amount compared to the Lord. Therefore, what we may think or feel is a delay, really isn't. What God says will happen, will do so at the exact time He planned for it to happen. Just like Jesus came down from Heaven to be born as a baby exactly when the Lord planned for it to happen. Everything that happens in this life is on God's timing, and according to His Will, not ours. Understanding that can give us peace when we realize that He is in control and nothing we can do or say can change that.

Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words. Isaiah 28:23
It would behoove any of us, to listen when God says, to listen!
He is about to tell us something important for us to understand. The more we understand, the easier life will be, in the sense that, we can understand better, what is going on and why. For sure, to ignore hearing His Word, will not end well.
Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he continually turn and harrow the ground? Isaiah 28:24
This parable, is to help us understand, That God has a purpose, in the timing, order, and proportion of His tasks, judgment and discipline with His people.
He does not constantly and continually, punish the wickedness of His people. It is not to destroy them... any more than a farmer only harrows the ground, in order to destroy his crops.
Rather God's ultimate goal is to carefully plant His seeds.
Does he not level its surface And sow dill and scatter cummin And plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place and rye within its area? Isaiah 28:25
For some reason, the different seeds, kind of made me think of this verse:
He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Ephesians 4:11
And also:
4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:4-8

For his God instructs and teaches him properly. Isaiah 28:26
Even farming can be done by God's instructions, the building of the ark was by God's instructions, all godly knowledge can be traced to God.
As God can teach us in smaller matters, He can be the best teacher in His Word, the Bible.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:26
There is a proper way to thresh grains:
For dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, Nor is the cartwheel driven over cummin; But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a club. Isaiah 28:27
Four methods are mentioned, two are the wrong ways, and two are the correct way.
God will apply the best way, to carry out His will. He will portion out His punishment also, as to the best way, to gain His harvest.
Afflictions are often God's threshing-instruments, we need to be grateful even in trials, because God is not done with us.
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9
But there is hope, because it won't last forever, and will have the results God determines, His Holy will, will be done, in order to gain obedience, which is a blessing for us.
Grain for bread is crushed, Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever. Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually damage it, He does not thresh it longer. Isaiah 28:28
God takes care in His punishment, so as not to break forever His people.
He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. Psalms 103:9
We can rest in the knowledge, He will do what is right, just and loving.
This also comes from the Lord of hosts, Who has made His counsel wonderful and His wisdom great.
God's way of agriculture is the best way, so we can be assured, and have great reverence for His ways, in spiritual matters.
He ought to receive glory, and honor and praise from us, in small and great matters.
so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 1:7

Always looking forward to what you have to say :)
I 'WAS' feeling much better about my cold/flu... and I went to the 2 hour Bible study last night.... it was great as always.
But then... This morning... having not had any sneezing for about 3 or 4 days
Sneezing, dizzy, tired, stuffy was back sigh!
I may have pushed a bit too much, too soon... but after 10 days or so I did not want to miss the Wed night Bible study again...
to have missed it once, was a bummer. I watched it online, but it is not exactly the same as being there....
And I did homeschooling with Devon this morning, but then, was done....very very tired
Still, I did go over in the afternoon but his door to his room was locked ( almost never ever is), so I am pretty sure, he was asleep and so...I left and slept myself.
Prayerfully, I will be back and posting more here tomorrow.
But this cold, is trying to make a comeback arrgghhh.

Woe, O Ariel, Ariel the city where David once camped! Add year to year, observe your feasts on schedule. Isaiah 29:1
Ariel, is a name for Jerusalem.... meaning either:
(1) lion of God, hero, the lion being the symbol of Judah; or
(2) altar-hearth of God.
However, this verse is looking towards the future, of it being invaded due to unbelief.
But one lesson is:
If God delays His correction, punishment, judgment etc., we should not abuse His patience, ( especially for our time and our country), but use our time wisely:
spreading the gospel, in whatever way or means that we have available to us, being obedient, Reading and studying His Word (the Bible), being in fellowship if at all possible ( going to church, Bible study, or online fellowship) praying etc. etc.
Because, at best, it is a delay judgment is still coming!
I will bring distress to Ariel, And she will be a city of lamenting and mourning; And she will be like an Ariel to me. Isaiah 29:2
But this is coming lamenting and mourning.
In this verse Ariel=Altar,” on which victims of all kinds are slain, so will Jerusalem be...the wicked men are destined for slaughter.
I didn't sleep a wink last night either so I am nodding off to sleep...

Then you will be brought low; From the earth you will speak, And from the dust where you are prostrate Your words will come. Your voice will also be like that of a spirit from the ground, And your speech will whisper from the dust. Isaiah 29:4
They will be humbled, like captives. And their voice will be like a spirit, fitting for her sin of necromancy.
But the multitude of your enemies will become like fine dust, And the multitude of the ruthless ones like the chaff which blows away; And it will happen instantly, suddenly. Isaiah 29:5
Nevertheless, in God's timing, their enemies will be punished. It will be sudden!
He will powerfully blow away the enemy like Chaff.
The forces of Sennacherib were destroyed in a single night by the angel of the Lord... God will do this again, in the coming future.
From the Lord of hosts you will be punished with thunder and earthquake and loud noise, With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire. Isaiah 29:6
The enemy can only do what the Lord allows but then What can dust do when in a whirlwind, or Chaff in a consuming fire.
Also this sounds somewhat like Revelation and seals, trumpets and bowls in the future.
If God is going to save Israel, or us, even if the whole world is against us, they will not prevail!
Therefore this verse:
And the multitude of all the nations who wage war against Ariel, Even all who wage war against her and her stronghold, and who distress her, Will be like a dream, a vision of the night. Isaiah 29:7
The threats of the whole world will fade like a bad dream.

It will be as when a hungry man dreams— And behold, he is eating; But when he awakens, his hunger is not satisfied, Or as when a thirsty man dreams— And behold, he is drinking, But when he awakens, behold, he is faint And his thirst is not quenched. Thus the multitude of all the nations will be Who wage war against Mount Zion. Isaiah 29:8
The threat and the enemies will fade like a bad dream, once you wake up.
However, the people are not understanding Isaiah's message that they need to trust God and not the world, in this case Egypt.
Be delayed and wait, Blind yourselves and be blind; They become drunk, but not with wine, They stagger, but not with strong drink. Isaiah 29:9
They are spiritually blind. They undertake and do religious traditions, and follow and perform mechanical religious rites, but do not know God.
.....they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false. 2 Thessalonians 2:10,11
And
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:3,4
Since they err and are perverted in doctrine, and are spiritually blind, they do not know God, therefore, they see nothing correctly, and cannot walk steadily,( like a drunken man or woman), and they are corrupt in their conduct.
For the Lord has poured over you a spirit of deep sleep, He has shut your eyes, the prophets; And He has covered your heads, the seers. Isaiah 29:10
These are false prophets and seers, the people listened too, instead of God's true prophets.
Therefore God has covered their eyes, so they are blind.
This reminds me of people today, they have a depraved hatred of the truth. It makes me so sad, and even angry at times, but mostly sad.
When our world could be helped by God, God's word, the Bible, and Jesus the Savior, instead, they will believe any other blind, perverted, immoral, wicked, foolishness.

Yes, and they're going from bad to worse and from evil to even more evil every day. People today very much fit the description Paul gives us in 2 Timothy:
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.” (2 Timothy 3:1–5)
I just read about Ezekiel's vision of God which reminded me of John's vision of Jesus. I don't understand how anyone could read these revelations about our God and not tremble with fear of making Him angry. I'm just going to share the very end of Ezekiel's vision as it takes up the entire chapter: “Then there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as they stood with lowered wings. Above the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of sapphire, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.” (Ezekiel 1:25–28) and here's John's vision: “and among the lampstands was someone “like a son of man,” dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.” (Revelation 1:13–16) People today act like God owes them something, when in fact the only thing God owes any of us is eternity in Hell!

What is amazing is how often, God works it out! You will say something, that is encouraging, just when I am needing it.
That often happens at church when the pastor will be preaching on something that just applies to something going on in my life... it almost feels like it was said directly to me....
Of course, he is preaching to everybody and they might be feeling the same way sometimes.
And I have heard people relating a story, of how they were feeling down one day, and some random stranger smiled at them or spoke to them in a grocery store or on the street etc. and it uplifted their spirit.
It often is not some words that are super 'specially special'... but rather; it is the kindness, the sweetness, the compassion, of even 'simple' words that were spoken from the heart etc.
So we often may not know, or like you said, don't really think about our words having such an effect and yet, God can and does use them.
But unfortunately, the reverse can also be the case, where someone can yell at another person, and that is a major downer.
But that has not been you :) You are not a 'discourager' to me :)

The entire vision will be to you like the words of a sealed book, which when they give it to the one who is literate, saying, "Please read this," he will say, "I cannot, for it is sealed." Isaiah 29:11 ~~~~~~
Those who can read, cannot discern the meaning of God's word, because they have given up on the true God, the clear Word, and any of their spiritual discernment, they might have had.
And so they cannot derive any benefit from the Word of God. They were obstinate and rebellious.
It reminds me of this day, People will say things like:
The Bible is myths and allegories, or they say: it is way too hard to understand ( especially Revelation for example, but also Genesis, or Romans etc.)
Then the book will be given to the one who is illiterate, saying, "Please read this." And he will say, "I cannot read." Isaiah 29:12
Both the literate and the illiterate were spiritually obtuse.
All the people were obstinate and rebellious, and so sadly, no one could have received God's rich revelations.
They were morally witless, and spiritually blind, not only are they incapable of understanding God's word, they are uninterested.
Note: If those who could not read, were truly interested, then they would have asked the prophet to explain it, instead they offered up, a quick easy out.
Is not this, the case, for much of the world's population today, in our time?
And this next verse also fits many people in the world today:
Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote, Isaiah 29:13
They performed empty ritualism, and their 'religion' is not sincere in loving God.... Rather, it is a mere formality.
Also it might be a result of fearful superstitions, and is also full of hypocrisy. This kind of empty ritualism does not bring anyone close to God.
