I wonder just what the Lord sees when He looks at each of us. When He looks at our lives right now, does He think that all He went through for us to save us and give us a life of victory was worth it? Will we one day stand before Him to see His smile and hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s joy!’” (Matthew 25:23) Will we receive a rich welcome into Heaven? (2 Peter 1:11) Or will He look at us and be ashamed of us and feel that we took all He did for us for granted? It's something to consider, especially right now as we're so very, very close to His Coming for us. Over and over through the Bible we're told to examine ourselves and make sure we are in the faith, and to do all we can to make our calling and election sure. When we've done that, we have nothing to worry about because we'll know our Lord will be pleased with us. We will know that we are living a life of love and living it the way Jesus would have, because we'll know His Word and we'll know Him so very well.
I can't speak for others, but I know for sure that I don't want to stand before Him and see Him ashamed of me; nor do I want all I've done to be burned up so that I'm saved but only as one escaping through the flames. (1 Corinthians 3:15) I want to see His face light up with joy and see His arms opened wide to receive me. I want to receive crowns and other rewards from Him so that when the time comes after all have been rewarded, that I can lay them down at His feet, for I know the only good in me is what He put there. So many people say what I used to say before I knew better, that they'll be happy to get to heaven even by the skin of their teeth, but that's saying exact;u what 1 Corinthians 3:15 says - that they'll barely make it and it's not going to be pleasant for them or for our Lord either. Why would we want to bring more grief or shame on the one who gave His life for us?
“Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:10–11)
“And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.” (1 John 2:28)
“Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 3:13)
“If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.” (1 Corinthians 3:14–15)
