Think of all the people the Lord has saved and used to turn the world upside down. But also consider how utterly unqualified so many of them were.
• Noah got DRUNK.
• Abraham was LIAR and too OLD.
• Sarah LAUGHED at God's promise.
• Jacob was a LIAR.
• Gideon was AFRAID.
• Rahab was A PROSTITUTE.
• Jeremiah and Timothy were considered TOO YOUNG.
• Jeremiah was DEPRESSED and SUICIAL.
• David was an ADULTERER, a MURDERER; his armor didn't fit, & he was TOO YOUNG.
• Moses was a MURDERER; he STUTTERED.
• Miriam was a GOSSIP.
• Samson had LONG HAIR.
• Hosea's wife was a PROSTITUTE.
• Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.
• Solomon was TOO RICH.
• Elijah was BURNED OUT.
• Naomi was a WIDOW.
• Jonah RAN FROM GOD.
• Gideon and Thomas DOUBTED.
• Peter DENIED CHRIST, and was AFRAID OF DEATH.
• The Disciples FELL ASLEEP while PRAYING.
• The Samaritan Woman WAS DIVORCED five times.
• Timothy had AN ULCER.
• John the Baptist ATE BUGS and was a LOUDMOUTH..
• John was SELF-RIGHTEOUS.
• John Mark was REJECTED by Paul.
• Paul was a MURDERER.
• Onesimus was a SLAVE.
• Philemon OWNED SLAVES.
• Martha was a WORRIER.
• Mary may have been LAZY.
• And Lazarus WAS DEAD!
• Did I mention Moses had a SHORT FUSE?
• So did Peter, Paul and lots of folks.
So what's our excuse?
Sometimes do you ever wonder why God called you? There are many reasons why God shouldn't have called you, or me, or anyone else for that matter, but God doesn't wait until we are perfect to call us. Think of all those God used. You're in good company if you think you aren't ready for God to use.
But God doesn't hire and fire like most bosses because He's more like our Dad than a boss. He doesn't look at financial gain or loss. He's not prejudiced or partial, nor sassy and brassy, nor deaf to our cry. He's not blind to our faults. His gifts to us are free. We could do wonderful things for others and still not be wonderful ourselves. Satan says, "You're not worthy!" Jesus says, "So what? I AM." Satan looks back and sees our mistakes. God looks back and sees the Cross.
