“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 3:20) Our other thread was getting really long so I started a new one for us.
For the last two days several deer have been wandering around in our yard in the morning. It's been wonderful to watch them!

I was looking out my kitchen window this morning looking at a jack rabbit sitting on the dirt and wondering what the rabbit had found to eat, maybe sprouts are starting to come up from the ground, then Ron asked me a question, he asked me if I knew that the Yoshino Japanese ship looks like the Yomoto (sp) Japanese ship, I said yes, what? oh well then I saw pictures of both ships and now I am remembering that information.

I'm so glad our citizenship is in heaven, as earth is turning into as Jesus predicted, as it was in the days of Noah.
I think there are many scared people looking for answers, and we have *the* answer, which is in Christ alone.

Just wondering if everyone has been putting a bit extra food away just in case? Supply chains seem to be suffering and while I'm hoping that things will cool down in the Ukraine, high gas prices might be a long term problem, and gas prices affect cost of a lot of things.

Wow Seven thud. Hi Steven, God bless you. I have about 3 months of extra food, following the advice of my Bible teacher who told us months ago to prepare by eating only plain food, so what I have is flour, lentils, oats and rice. He said get your vitamins from nature, so that I do and I have started a garden outdoor and indoor garden.

That's a coincidence Marlene because I'm studying Acts now too. I just finished Acts 8 and will start on chapter 9 tomorrow. To make sure I don't just read a section I now add a note at the end of each chapter, or sometimes at the end of each section of a chapter, that I call the "application". In that note I wrote down what I've learned from the chapter and how I can apply it to my life. It really helps me a lot. I still tend to forget things, but with the note being there, I can always re-read it, and even add to it over the years if I want to.

That is such an excellent idea Cindy..... but do you have enough room for notes and application ( and even more room to add even more to it)?
Or do you just write really really small?
Is it the MacArthur study Bible?
Yes, I too have been have all manner of sleeping issues
Like last night...not one wink but a few nights ago, about 12 hours but that did not mean I was bright eyed and bushy tailed and raring to go....
No I stayed tired. :(

What is nice for writing notes is if a person has that fancy legible to read handwriting, unfortunately for me I have always had messy hand writing and even worse after a hand injury I had from a fall off of a bicycle years ago. I recently tried to take notes and realize that is not going to work, I want to take notes so I am glad I have access to the computer to type and file or print out, I would like to print out if my printer happens to be working. I was listening to a reading of the book of Maccabees last night for the 1st time, when I was listening it was the year 145 AD and about war between the Jews and the Gentiles, seemed like every chapter was mostly that, I soon fell asleep while listening to the reading of that book.

I wrote more about the application notes here, which may explain it better for everyone: fresh-hope.com/thread/6655/applying-learned-bible-study But while I did write in my "real" Bible, my notes were generally short. Now I use my Bible study Library and I can write a whole article for a note if I want to, since it's all on my computer. In fact, when I first got my Bible Study Library, I copied all the notes from my "real" Bible into my computer one so I'd not lose them. How much I wrote in my real Bible was determined by how much space was available. Now that's not a problem though. Plus, my notes show up on all 30 Bible versions I have there. Here's a screenshot that shows one of my notes. All I have to do is hover my mouse over the note and I can read it. If it's too long and I can't see it all that way, I can just click on it to read it. Each of those colored squares are notes.
Here's another one that you can see the squares and other shapes that are my notes better. Each different shape tells me what the note is about....
And here's one that shows the kind I use when the note is about something one of you has said that I didn't want to forget:
See what looks like a yellow paperclip on verse 18? That's what I use when I don't want to forget what one of you has said. At the start of any of those kind of notes I always say who said it too.
See the red note by verse 25 that has a red arrow pointing up and to the right? That's the color and type of note I use for all my application notes. The green squares with a checkmark in them mean the note is about history, archaeology, science, or traditions. (like the one on verse 27 or the ones by the title of that section about Phillip.
As far as handwriting goes, I used have nice handwriting, but I don't anymore. So it's a good thing I can type all my notes this way! As you can see, I love color and I always highlighted verses in my real Bible, so on my computer Bible I do the same thing by adding color. Like the notes, different colors mean different things for me.
I'm sorry to hear your handwriting got worse after a fall Marlene. Mine is worse due to RA mainly I guess.
I'm actually working on something in my Bible. Up until recently everything I wrote in it or did in it was for my own understanding and learning. But now I'm redoing a lot of my notes so my daughter Jennifer and her children will be able to easily understand them, because I am giving my Bible Study Library to them when I die, but I intend to teach them how to use it now and give them access to it now as well.
What's neat about doing this (and it can be done with a "real" Bible as well) is that as you're studying God's Word, you're thinking about the person or persons you intend the Bible to go to, and so you begin to pray for them; especially when you read a scripture that fits something in their life. So by the time you're done, you've saturated that Bible with prayer for that person(s) and filled it with personal notes about the meaning of scriptures and about things that cause you to think about them. The Bible becomes a gift of love for whoever you're doing it for.
Kelly, those digital things you have to sign your name on for UPS, or at pharmacies is crazy! There's no way anyone could prove I signed any of those things, so what's the point?

Wonderful Cindy....What are the red squares with an exclamation point refer to?
I have often thought of one or more loved ones when reading my Bible and thought about when I died if they might read it. But I never went into so much detail as you....absolutely great!
What an encouragement! Thank you! :)
It seems the MacArthur study Bible which I love love love has one 'flaw' the paper the type is one seems way thinner, than past Bibles, so if I underline or write a note....it can be seen on the other side. Arrgghhh
So a highlighter would be absolutely out of the question.
I seem to remember something about how someone used high lighter colors ( years ago) and each color had a special meaning?
Is there anything else you do? I know you said you pray when a verse or passage seems to fit a loved one and the symbols have meanings
I think I am a little confused because it looks like ( in your examples)
some verses have 5 or 6 symbols.
So where do the notes go...in relation to the symbols.
Like if one symbols, is saying one aspect of this verse has to do with history
Do you then write ( after the verse) how the historical aspect is important?
or what?
Am I overthinking it again LOL
I just think I am getting a wee glimmer of how you use your notes etc.to go deeper into God's word....
but I don't think, I quite have it.

That is nice to see about the bible study notes. I have watched videos from 3 women that have showed how they write Bible study notes and it was interesting, good to see others with the same interest in taking notes. How is the weather? unusual there is ice on my outdoor steps this morning, since I have lived here we have never had March temps. like we are having this year. I think the outdoor cat is gone for good but this morning I did smell another animal, a replacement maybe? My neighbor has sent pictures of skunk and racoon in his yard yet in all the time I have lived here I have never seen a skunk or racoon here, only what I think are paw prints from them.

I just think I am getting a wee glimmer of how you use your notes etc.to go deeper into God's word....
but I don't think, I quite have it. The red squares with the exclamation point have notes that are particularly important. They let me know that if I'm short on time and can't read all of my notes, that I should just read those, as they shouldn't be missed.
You can still use a highlighter on those pages. You just need to look for the kind that say they won't bleed through the page. When the Bible publishers started using that kind of paper, the makers of the highlighters started making the kind that will work for that kind of paper. here's a link to some so you'll know what I mean: www.amazon.com/U-S-Office-Supply-Bible-Highlighters/dp/B01M0FDEUA/ref=sr_1_8?
As to where the notes go... let me use this graphic to explain with as it will make it easier. Any note in front of a verse number goes to that verse. Yes, I could put all three into just one note, but I prefer to be able to read them without clicking on them. Therefore I try to keep them short enough so I can do that. Sine most of my notes are things different commentaries, pastors, theology books, etc say, I put each person or book in it's own note. I'll continue after the graphic:
Let me share what is in the notes you see on verse 18: the yellow paper clip says: Barbara said: If pride caused so many angels to fall, into completely depravity, then I think, that is a major danger sign of something to avoid.
The first red note has this in it: The sin of pride is strongly condemned because it violates the first principle of wisdom, which is to fear the Lord. Our abilities, appearance, success, and wealth are not of our own efforts and energy but come from God. The sin of pride is attributing to ourselves that which comes by the mercy and will of God. The Woman’s Study Bible
The last red note on that verse says: Letting our focus drift away from God can be a very dangerous thing. We may end up using our resources and talents to build little “towers” that call attention to ourselves. Even good things like church attendance and Bible study can become a source of pride if we’re not careful. When other people look at our life, we want them to see only one monument—our testimony of God’s goodness that points them toward our Lord and Savior. Designed for devotion:
You said: "Like if one symbols, is saying one aspect of this verse has to do with history, Do you then write ( after the verse) how the historical aspect is important?" I'm afraid I don't understand what you're saying.... No, the type of note doesn't mean that verse is about history, it means the note is about something to do with History, customs, traditions, science that will relate to something that concerns the verse.
let me see if this will help. But I'll need the other graphic: See where it says "Phillip and the Ethiopian"?
See where it says "Phillip and the Ethiopian"? There are two notes before that phrase, so those notes are going to be either about that phrase or about that particular portion of scripture the phrase is the title for. In this case the scriptures it's referring to are Acts 8:26–40. Remember I said those kind of squares are for notes about History, customs, traditions, science. So let me share what is in those two notes:
1. The Wallamos in Ethiopia. There are over 60 references to Ethiopia in the Bible, and Christianity there goes back to the days of Philip in Acts 8. But the modern story of the Ethiopian church also sounds like readings from the book of Acts, especially among the Wallamos. In 1927 the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) sent missionaries to evangelize this wild tribe, worshipers of Satan. During its annual “Passover” the Wallamos sacrificed a bull to Satan, sprinkling its blood on the doorposts of their houses and serving its raw flesh to every member of their families. The atmosphere smelled of demons. After several years a small church was established, but missionary labor was interrupted when Mussolini invaded Ethiopia in 1935. When Italian troops reached tribal areas, they demanded SIM to leave. The missionaries met a final time with Wallamos believers. When they had arrived not a single Wallamo had known of Christ. Now after 9 years, 48 native believers gathered around them. The little church worshiped, wept, and shared the Lord’s Supper. Then the 26 SIM missionaries boarded army trucks for evacuation. On April 17, 1937, their first day without missionary support, the little Wallamo church found itself having to stand on its own feet. “We knew God was faithful,” wrote missionary Raymond Davis, “that he was able to preserve what he had begun among the Wallamos. But still we wondered—if we ever come back, what will we find?” The invasion of Ethiopia marked the beginnings of World War II, and it wasn’t until July 4, 1943 that the missionaries returned. What they found almost defies belief. The Italian soldiers had tried to stamp out the small church. Church leaders were given 100 lashes, and one was given 400. They were unable to lie on their backs for months. Several had died. One of them, Wandaro, beaten in public, preached to the crowds between lashes. Another, Toro, stripped in the marketplace and flogged with a hippo-hide whip, bravely shouted out the gospel. Conversions multiplied, and tribal villages began sending missionaries to other villages. Instead of 48 believers, the returning missionaries now found—18,000. On this day
So do you see how the above note is about history, and that it also is about Phillip and about Ethiopia? 2. Ethiopia was viewed by people of antiquity as lying at the southernmost end or limit of the earth. Second, in antiquity, skin color was an Ethiopian’s most distinctive feature. About Ethiopians, pseudo-Aristotle says, “Those who are too swarthy are cowardly; this applies to Egyptians and Ethiopians.” If this negative view of Ethiopia/Ethiopians is in the cultural repertoire of Luke’s audience, Luke encourages the setting aside of those prejudices. What was the status of eunuchs in the Mediterranean world of late antiquity. Eunuchs in antiquity “belonged to the most despised & derided group of men.” This claim would certainly find support in the writings of Polemo, who notes that “eunuchs are an evil people, & in them is greed & an assembly of various (evil) qualities” . This attitude was prevalent among Greek-speaking Jews of the first century as well. Why were eunuchs thus demonized and ostracized in antiquity? In part, the answer lies in their ambiguous sexual identity. Lucian of Samosata argued that a eunuch “was an ambiguous sort of creature like a crow, which cannot be reckoned either with doves or with ravens … neither man nor woman but something composite, hybrid and monstrous, alien to human nature.” In a culture in which honor was gender-based, to be sexually ambiguous was to blur clear-cut gender roles and expectations and thus to bring shame upon oneself and one’s community. The eunuch was impure and filled with shame. The fact that many eunuchs, despite their social stigmatization, held important offices, were literate, and had access to material wealth only made them that much more socially ambiguous. Acts.
The above note shows how people thought about Ethiopians back then. Does that help?
That is nice to see about the bible study notes. I have watched videos from 3 women that have showed how they write Bible study notes and it was interesting, good to see others with the same interest in taking notes. How is the weather? unusual there is ice on my outdoor steps this morning, since I have lived here we have never had March temps. like we are having this year. My neighbor has sent pictures of skunk and racoon in his yard yet in all the time I have lived here I have never seen a skunk or racoon here, only what I think are paw prints from them. I honestly couldn't believe our weather yesterday! After getting only one decent snow storm all winter, just a short time ago, I knew the snow wouldn't last long, and it didn't. But I sure didn't expect another snow storm! We only got about 5 inches but that's more then most of the storms we've had till that last one. I wasn't surprised because of the month we're in, because we often get snow in March and April, even big storms. I was surprised because I didn't think we'd get any more since we've had so little all winter.
Yeah, I'd just as soon not see any skunks around my yard either! OHHH check out Racoon whisperer on YOU TUBE ifyou want see a racoon There is sweet old retired Mountie who feed racoon in his hood I discover this dude couple months I been watching his video That's great! Thanks Kelly!
