Turkey and Jordan said preparing buffer zones inside Syria. Israeli air support mooted. Putin issues warning
DEBKAfile Special Report June 30, 2015
The Turkish and Jordanian armies were reported on June 30 to be getting ready to cross into Syria for the first time since war engulfed that country in 2011, and set up security buffer zones. Both are impelled to fight ISIS, oppose the Assad regime and anxious to stem the flow of refugees, but there are also differences in their objectives and it is not clear if they are coordinated.
Turkey has prepared 18,000 troops to carve out a buffer zone in northern Syria and use its air force to impose a no-fly zone against Syrian flights. Middle East sources report that the Jordanian army is also on the ready to cross into southern Syria. Jordan and Israel are reported to be planning joint air cover and the creation of a parallel no-fly zone in the south.
These preparations prompted Russian President Vladimir Putin to pledge his support for the Assad regime .On Monday, June 29, Putin summoned Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem to his Kremlin office from a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to tell him that Russia’s "policy to support Syria, the Syrian leadership and the Syrian people remains unchanged."
Putin has repeatedly warned Western governments against military intervention in the Syrian war or any attempt to oust Bashar Assad, warning that if foreign troops go into Syria, Moscow will respond in kind.

Jordan launches war on ISIS in Iraq, Turkish warplanes hit ISIS in Syria. US, Israel involved in both ops
DEBKAfile Special Report July 24, 2015
The Middle East woke up Friday, July 24, to two new full-fledged wars launched by Jordan and Turkey for cutting down the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant as is forces advanced on their borders. The United States and Israel are involved in both campaigns. Jordanian armored, commando and air forces are already operating deep inside Iraq, while Friday morning, Turkey conducted its first cross-border air strike against ISIS targets in Syria. Clashes between Turkish troops and Islamic fighters erupted at several points along the border. Both governments also conducted mass arrests of suspected Islamists. The Jordanian police picked up ISIS adherents, while 5,000 Turkish police detained 250 Islamist and outlawed Kurdish PKK suspects in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Saniurta. Jordan Friday shut down its only border crossing with Iraq.
Earlier this week, Turkey permitted US warplanes to us the Incirlik air base in the south for bombing missions against ISIS, and Israel handed over to Jordan 16 Cobra combat helicopters and assured Jordan of air force cover for its anti-ISIS operation.
In the first publicized Israeli military hardware transaction with an Arab nation, Israel has handed over “around 16 Cobra” combat helicopters in support of Jordan’s war on the Islamic State. This was confirmed Thursday, July 23, by a US official close to the transfer. It was also the first time US-Jordanian-Israeli military cooperation in the struggle against ISIS was publicly disclosed.
“These choppers are for border security,” said the unnamed US official.

Turkey’s Attack On ISIS Is A Conspiracy Orchestrated By Obama And Erdogan In Order To Advance The Islamic CaliphateBy Ted on July 26, 2015 in Featured, General By Walid Shoebat The charade began when Americans got excited when Turkish warplanes directly began to target ISIS locations early Saturday for a second straight day. But then all of the sudden, Turkey switched plans and opened a second front, not on ISIS, but against the PKK Kurdish rebel sites that were fighting ISIS. The Turkish jets then hit shelters and storage facilities belonging to the PKK in seven areas in northern Iraq, including Mount Quandil where there are no ISIS and is where the PKK’s headquarters are located. Even the Turkish media outlets were more enthusiastic about the Turkish air force’s bombing the Kurdish militia than about bombing ISIS. “The camps of the PKK,” they excitedly reported, “have been covered with fire.” All this unravelled two days after Obama spoke with Erodgan of Turkey by phone regarding attacks on ISIS and the Kurds. But the question that begs an answer is that if it is true that Turkey had a sudden willingness to join the fight against ISIS, why then did Turkey orchestrate a second front, not against ISIS, but against the very enemies of ISIS, the Kurdish rebels in Syria and Iraq? There were articles that indicated that Erdogan thought he was the promised Mahdi ....he thought he would get re-elected to office as prez but lost ...so now he is attacking the kurds to help enable ISIS and also overcome Assad and Israel..

NATO affirms ‘strong solidarity’ with Turkey against IS
By AP and AFP July 28, 2015
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday that the military alliance stood firmly by key member Turkey in the face of “terrible acts of terror” and instability along its southern border.
“NATO is following developments very closely and we stand in strong solidarity with our ally Turkey,” Stoltenberg said at the opening of an emergency meeting of all 28 member states requested by Ankara.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey is asking NATO to be prepared to help his country as it battles Islamic State militants in Syria and Kurdish rebels in Iraq.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday before leaving for China, Erdogan also said it was impossible to advance a peace process with the Kurds as attacks on Turkey continue.
Erdogan reiterated that Turkish and US officials were discussing the creation of a safe zone near Turkey’s border with Syria, which would be cleared of the IS group’s presence and turned into a secure area for Syrian refugees to return.
Turkey and the United States have agreed on the outlines of a plan to rout the Islamic State group from the territory — a plan that opens the possibility of a safe haven for tens of thousands of displaced Syrians but one that also sets up a potential conflict with US-backed Syrian Kurdish forces in the area.
The move further embroils Turkey in Syria’s civil war, and also catapults it into a front-line position in the global war against IS.
A senior Obama administration official said Monday that US discussions with Turkey about an IS-free zone focused on a 68-mile stretch still under IS control. The US has been conducting airstrikes there, which will accelerate now that the US can launch strikes from Turkish soil, the official said.

Thousands will die as Obama continues to throw our allies to the wolves in Kurdistan
Ezra Levant Rebel Media July 29, 2015
In another example of inept and dangerous negotiating skills, Obama has sacrificed the Kurds in order to have the right to do what he has a right to do anyway.
Even though Turkey is a member of NATO, they hate the Kurds more than they oppose the Islamic State terrorists. Obama has just given the Islamic government of Turkey permission to attack our allies in Kurdistan, the only liberal Muslims in the region.more www.therebel.media/thousands_will_die_as_obama_continues_to

Obama Strikes Again
By Caroline Glick August 3, 2015
...Due to Turkish support, ISIS has become a self-financing terrorist group. With its revenue stream it is able to maintain a welfare state regime, attracting recruits from abroad and securing the loyalty of local Sunni militias and former Ba’athist forces.
Some Western officials believed that after finding hard evidence of Turkish regime support for ISIS, NATO would finally change its relationship with Turkey. To a degree they were correct.
Last week, Obama cut a deal with Erdogan that changes the West’s relationship with Erdogan.
Instead of maintaining its current practice of balancing its support for Turkey with its support for the Kurds, under the agreement, the West ditches its support for the Kurds and transfers its support to Turkey exclusively.
The Kurdish peshmerga militias operating today in Iraq and Syria are the only military outfits making sustained progress in the war against ISIS. Since last October, the Kurds in Syria have liberated ISIS-controlled and -threatened areas along the Turkish border.
The YPG, the peshmerga militia in Syria, won its first major victory in January, when after a protracted, bloody battle, with US air support, it freed the Kurdish border town of Kobani from ISIS’s assault.
In June, the YPG scored a strategic victory against ISIS by taking control of Tal Abyad. Tal Abyad controls the road connecting ISIS’s capital of Raqqa with Turkey. By capturing Tal Abyad, the Kurds cut Raqqa’s supply lines.
Last month, Time magazine reported that the Turks reacted with hysteria to Tal Abyad’s capture.
Not only did the operation endanger Raqqa, it gave the Kurds territorial contiguity in Syria.
The YPG’s victories enhanced the Kurds’ standing among Western nations. Indeed, some British and American officials were quoted openly discussing the possibility of removing the PKK, the YPG’s Iraqi counterpart, from their official lists of terrorist organizations.
The YPG’s victories similarly enhanced the Kurds’ standing inside Turkey itself. In the June elections to the Turkish parliament, the Kurdish HDP party won 12 percent of the vote nationally, and so blocked Erdogan’s AKP party from winning a parliamentary majority.
Without that majority Erdogan’s plan of reforming the constitution to transform Turkey into a presidential republic and secure his dictatorship for the long run has been jeopardized.
As far as Erdogan was concerned, by the middle of July the Kurdish threat to his power had reached unacceptable levels.

US Urges Turkey to Tone Down War Against Kurds
By Arutz Sheva Staff 8/4/2015
Europe and the United States on Tuesday urged Turkey to show a "proportionate response" in the face of daily attacks by Kurdish militants amid growing concern over the scale of Ankara's air campaign against the rebels.
Two more Turkish soldiers were killed in the latest assault blamed on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants, as Ankara pressed on with a relentless air campaign against hideouts in northern Iraq.
Ankara is waging a two-pronged cross-border "anti-terror" bombing campaign against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Syria and PKK rebels in northern Iraq.
But so far the raids have overwhelmingly targeted the Kurdish rebels, in what critics say is a pretext for Turkey to crack down on the Kurds - a move that comes after Ankara was shown to be cooperating with ISIS.
Official media in Turkey have said at least 260 PKK members have been killed so far, in hundreds of sorties targeted against the group's shelters, weapons stores and caves.
But concern over possible civilian casualties grew when pro-Kurdish media at the weekend said Turkey killed eight civilians by bombing a village. The army denied the claims.
The European Union's enlargement commissioner, Johannes Hahn, expressed "deep concern" at the impact on efforts to resolve the decades-long conflict with Turkey's Kurdish minority.
Turkey has a right "to react to any form of terrorism," Hahn said in a statement. Both the US and the EU list the PKK as a terror group.
But he added: "The response, however, must be proportionate, targeted and by no means endanger the democratic political dialogue."

Turkey and Its Kurds: At War Again
By Burak Bekdil August 11, 2015
“We have only one concern. It is Islam, Islam and Islam.” – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, July 31, 2015.
Why should they be fighting? After all, they are both Sunni Muslims.
Once again, Erdogan, an Islamist, relied too much on religion in resolving what is essentially an ethnic (not religious) conflict.
Even President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s critics, including this author, praised him when, after 40,000 lives lost in a bloody conflict, he (as then prime minister) bravely launched a difficult process that would finally bring peace to a country that suffered much from ethnic strife. His government would negotiate peace with the Kurds; grant them broad cultural and political rights, which his predecessors did not; and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Kurds’ armed group, would finally say farewell to arms. Erdogan (and the Kurdish leaders) would then be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
But now Turkey is in flames again; the country smells of death. Dozens of members of the security forces, as well as civilians, have been killed in clashes in just the two weeks after an Islamic State suicide bomber murdered 32 pro-Kurdish activists in a small Turkish town on the Syrian border on July 20. Several hundred people were injured and more than a thousand were detained by the police.
Turkish cities have once again become a battleground in an almost century-old Turkish-Kurdish dispute: Kurdish militants attack security forces on a daily basis, while the Turkish military buries its fallen soldiers and strikes Kurdish guerrilla camps in northern Iraq. What happened to the Turkish-Kurdish ceasefire and the prospect of sustainable peace?

Erdogan Vows to Continue Attack on PKK 'to the Last Terrorist'
By Arutz Sheva Staff 8/12/2015
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday vowed that his country would press on with its relentless campaign against Kurdish militants "until not one terrorist" was left, as Ankara launched new air strikes against the rebels, reports AFP.
Turkey is currently pressing a two-pronged "anti-terror" offensive against Islamic State (ISIS) jihadists in Syria and PKK militants in northern Iraq and the southeast following a wave of attacks.
So far, however, the Turkish raids have concentrated on the PKK targets, and only three of them have officially been identified as targeting ISIS. The Kurdish rebels have responded by tearing up a 2013 ceasefire and waging a bloody campaign against the security forces.
"We will continue our fight until weapons are laid down... and not one single terrorist remains within our borders," Erdogan said in a televised speech in Ankara.
He said the weapons of the PKK and other militant groups must be buried "under concrete" to show they were no longer a threat to the Turkish state.
"I'm not talking about laying down arms, I'm talking about burying them. I'd like to emphasize this," Erdogan said.

Turkey Claims Killing 770 Kurdish Militants in a Month
By Arutz Sheva Staff 8/21/2015
Turkey has killed at least 770 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey over the last month as part of a brutal crackdown, reports the state-run Anadolu Agency on Friday.
While the figures could not be independently confirmed, the paper said among the dead were 430 militants killed in airstrikes on PKK camps in northern Iraq, with another 260 killed in ground operations in Turkey.
The paper cited Turkish intelligence sources in announcing the figures.
Turkey's crackdown on Kurdish forces and collapse of the ongoing peace talks with the PKK came after a massive suicide bombing on July 20 in the border town of Suruc, which killed at least 30 Kurds and which Ankara blamed on Islamic State (ISIS).
Several following incidents of PKK militants attacking Turkish police - given that Turkey has been shown to have cooperated with ISIS - set off the harsh crackdown.

Iraq urges Turkey to 'immediately' withdraw troops
By Arutz Sheva Staff First Publish: 12/5/2015
Baghdad demanded Saturday the immediate withdrawal of forces it said Turkey illegally deployed in Iraq, which is struggling to assert its sovereignty while receiving foreign assistance against ISIS.
AFP reports that a senior officer from the Kurdish forces in the region -- which are allied to Ankara -- downplayed the deployment as a routine training rotation but a Turkish paper said it was part of deal to set up a permanent base.
The Turkish troops, tanks and artillery were sent to Nineveh, a northern province largely held by ISIS, in an area currently controlled by Kurdish forces but also claimed by Baghdad.
Facing major political pressure as a result of statements by American officials, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has taken an increasingly hard public line on foreign forces in Iraq over the past week, terming the deployment of ground combat forces a "hostile act."
"The Iraqi authorities call on Turkey to... immediately withdraw from Iraqi territory," a statement from his office said.
"We have confirmation that Turkish forces, numbering about one armored regiment with a number of tanks and artillery, entered Iraqi territory... allegedly to train Iraqi groups, without a request or authorization from Iraqi federal authorities," it said.
The deployment "is considered a serious violation of Iraqi sovereignty," it added.

‘Not honest’: Erdogan criticizes Iraqi plea to UNSC over Turkish invasion
12 Dec, 2015 RTNews
Turkey will not withdraw troops from an Iraqi camp close to the northern ISIS-controlled city of Mosul, said President Tayyip Erdogan, condemning Iraq’s appeal to the UN Security Council about Turkish forces’ presence, which deemed it to be “not honest.”
“They can resort to the UN Security Council, that is their natural right, but this is not an honest step and we believe that Iraq’s actions are related to the latest developments in the region, that is, the steps taken by Russia and Iran,” Erdogan said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
Erdogan's comments came shortly before Iraq sent a letter to the UN Security Council demanding an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all Turkish troops from Iraq. ...
Earlier in the day Erdogan once again said he will not withdraw his troops, blaming Iraq for not taking the proper steps to protect its neighbor against the terrorist threat from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
“Because Iraq is a place where terrorist organizations are running wild, especially Daesh [IS] … these terrorist organizations are a threat element for Turkey,” Erdogan said early Friday morning as he left on a visit to Turkmenistan.
“If the Iraqi central government does not take the necessary measures against possible threats to Turkey, we have to do it ourselves,” he added, reported Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.
The Turkish leader maintains that the Turkish presence was established at the end of 2014 for a training mission at the request of the Iraqi prime minister.
“Now it has been approximately a year-and-a half since the establishment of the Bashiqa camp. One would ask: where were you a year-and-a-half ago?” Erdogan asked.
Baghdad however keeps on reminding Ankara daily that the latest deployment of some 150 soldiers and a few dozen tanks was done without the permission or consent of from Iraq. Iraqi MPs told RT that Erdogan’s justification of the deployment is an “absolute lie” as it comes in an area where no Iraqi troops are present.

Erdogan: Turkey won't stop shelling Kurdish forces in Syria
By Arutz Sheva Staff 2/17/2016
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday vowed Turkey would not allow the creation of a Kurdish stronghold in northern Syria, saying there was no question of Turkish forces stopping their bombardment of Syrian Kurdish fighters.
"We will not allow a new Qandil on our southern border" with Syria, Erdogan said in a televised speech in Ankara, referring to the mountain in northern Iraq which for years has been stronghold of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants.
"They (the West) tell use to stop shelling" the Kurdish fighters in Syria, Erdogan said after Turkey hit their positions for four days in a row. "Forgive me, but there is no question of us doing such a thing."

JusticeForKurds: RT calls on UN to probe Turkey's alleged killing of Kurdish civilians
17 Mar, 2016 RTNews
RT has launched a petition calling for a UNHRC-led investigation into claims of alleged mass killing of Kurdish civilians. It is said to have been committed by the Turkish military during Ankara's crackdown on Kurds in the country's southeast.
An RT crew visited Cizre in Turkey’s Sirnak province following reports of a brutal military crackdown on the civilian population in the area. It allegedly included slaughtering of hundreds of civilians trapped in basements. The reports which surfaced in February stated that some 150 people were burned to death.
RT's William Whiteman witnessed shocking scenes of destruction in the southeastern Turkish town, and collected horrifying accounts of an alleged massacre of Kurdish civilians there.
Witnesses who survived the offensive by the Turkish military provided Whiteman with terrifying details on what had happened in the now-devastated area, and showed the location of the alleged mass killing.
