My words will be in this color today and biblical Scriptures will be in this color today
A new topic Today will be:
Hell, and the Lake of fire, and the difference and what is waiting for those who will go there.
I think some people think these are one and the same. so we need to look at them a bit more closely, and in any case, what are the sad results of what is waiting for those who go there....
So many verses...where to start?
49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:49,50
and
28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
John 5:28,29
These verses lets us know, that at the very end....
There will be a separation, the evil people ( those who do not have Jesus as their Savior) will be thrown into a fiery furnace, Hell.
Right now hell is not currently occupied. Unsaved sinners are being held ( in Hades) until the final Great white throne judgement.
And words from Jesus:
33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?
Matthew 23:33
Jesus makes it clear this is not the place anyone will want to be! And sinners ought to want to escape going there.
So Hell is where unbelieving sinners go
Jesus also said this:
5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Luke 12:5
Could a warning be more severe? Jesus tells us, that Hell is something to be feared, and even more so, if we reject God, then we need to fear Him.
And the Lake of fire?
20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. Revelation 19:20
Not surprisingly , Hell is not popular, nor should it be!
It's very existence should be so horrifying, we would want to avoid it at all costs!
However, even so, the devil has managed to blind, some foolish people, into thinking, hell will be a 'fun' place.... where all who go there will live, in an eternal rebellious party!
But let's look at it even more closely, especially those thinking they could party, or that it won't be so bad:
20 Are not my days few? Then cease, and leave me alone, that I may find a little cheer
21 before I go—and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,
22 the land of gloom like thick darkness, like deep shadow without any order, where light is as thick darkness.”
Job 10:20-22
And also
3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength,
5 like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand.
6 You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the regions dark and deep
Psalm 88:3-6
Then there are these verses which adds more discription:
22 The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’
Luke 16:22-24
It seems like, for a time, the Old Testament believers, were perhaps somewhere close enough, that those unbelievers could see and even speak to the believers.
That situation will not last tho.

That's a good try hon, but there's a problem. It started going off when you said: "Right now hell is not currently occupied. Unsaved sinners are being held ( in Hades) until the final Great white throne judgement. Hell is hades. it gets pretty confusing as the OT and NT use the word differently.
Let me share an important verse with you and then what MacArthur says about it and what they teach about this subject.
“In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’” (Luke 16:23–24) Some versions translate "in hell" as "in hades".
This is what MacArthur says about this verse: In Hades. The suggestion that a rich man would be excluded from heaven would have scandalized the Pharisees (see note on Mt 19:24); especially galling was the idea that a beggar who ate scraps from his table was granted the place of honor next to Abraham. “Hades” was the Gr. term for the abode of the dead. In the LXX, it was used to translate the Heb. Sheol, which referred to the realm of the dead in general, without necessarily distinguishing between righteous or unrighteous souls. However, in NT usage, “Hades” always refers to the place of the wicked prior to final judgment in hell. The imagery Jesus used paralleled the common rabbinical idea that Sheol had two parts, one for the souls of the righteous and the other for the souls of the wicked—separated by an impassable gulf. But there is no reason to suppose, as some do, that “Abraham’s bosom” spoke of a temporary prison for the souls of OT saints, who were brought to heaven only after He had actually atoned for their sins. Scripture consistently teaches that the spirits of the righteous dead go immediately into the presence of God (cf. 23:43; 2Co 5:8; Php 1:23). And the presence of Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration (9:30) belies the notion that they were confined in a compartment of Sheol until Christ finished His work.
The MacArthur study Bible
We teach that following the release of Satan after the thousand year reign of Christ (Rev 20:7), Satan will deceive the nations of the earth and gather them to battle against the saints and the beloved city, at which time Satan and his army will be devoured by fire from heaven (Rev 20:9). Following this, Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone (Mt 25:41; Rev 20:10) whereupon Christ, who is the judge of all men (Jn 5:22), will resurrect and judge the great and small at the Great White Throne judgment.
We teach that this resurrection of the unsaved dead to judgment will be a physical resurrection, whereupon receiving their judgment (Jn 5:28, 29), they will be committed to an eternal conscious punishment in the lake of fire (Mt 25:41; Rev 20:11–15). We teach that the souls of the unsaved at death are kept under punishment until the final resurrection (Lk 16:19–26; Rev 20:13–15), when the soul and the resurrection body will be united (Jn 5:28, 29). They shall then appear at the Great White Throne judgment (Rev 20:11–15) and shall be cast into the lake of fire (Mt 25:41–46), cut off from the life of God forever (Da 12:2; Mt 25:41–46; 2Th 1:7–9). Thank you for clearing that up!! :)
But to be absolutely clear
Can you clear up for me ( because there are several terms:
Gehenna.....is not Hell ( right) but rather was an actual place in Israel, but is sometimes used as a symbol for Hell.
But Sheol and Hades are the place of the wicked prior to final judgment in hell
And Hell and the Lake of fire are one and the same? As per:
They ( unsaved sinners) shall then appear at the Great White Throne judgment (Rev 20:11–15)
and shall be cast into hell, the lake of fire
(Mt 25:41–46), cut off from the life of God forever (Da 12:2; Mt 25:41–46; 2Th 1:7–9).

My words will be in this color today and Biblical Scriptures will be in this color today
I think, I will look at what those unsaved people, who do not accept God's loving offer......
can expect from Hell.... and it's not a party
It will be a place of suffering and torment.
I suppose we can ask, but why? Perhaps I should look at that tomorrow?
But today I will just look at what to expect, if someone chooses to go there.
I will start with this verse:
22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. Matthew 5:22
I noticed that insults , dolled out in anger, sometimes, that anger, turns to rage, which eventually leads to murder.
Think of even of the 1st murderer, Cain....
( he was angry, his anger lead , to enough hatred, that lead Cain to murder, his brother Able).
So people might think, that some of their insults, might become an:
'Oops'!
I might get sued in court , for disparaging someone's character!
True enough.....
But.....
There is God's pure and Holy character, that is even MORE important!
God cannot eternally be around depravity and sin. ( Unless, it has been paid for, in full, by Jesus).
Just think of how often people express :
contempt, mocking, sarcasm, profanity, cursing, bitter feelings, fury, grudges, rage, hatred, indignation, derision, arrogant contempt, malice, etc. etc. that has exploded over the internet these days we live in.
I am not sure, if many or any, people when posting such angry feelings, are thinking about those verses!
This verse gives more detail on the fire of Hell:
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. Mark 9:43
The fires of Hell, will not eventually die out, instead it is unquenchable.
As an aside: Jesus is not talking about 'righteous indignation'. We should hate evil, as God hates evil.
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Romans 12:9
Another aspect of Hell, is it is 'extremely' hot.
20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. Revelation 19:20
Jude speaking of the unsaved, mentions the darkness of hell:
13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom he gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. Jude 13
So........so much for 'partying' and socializing....
not going to happen!
And then there is the 'worm'
24 “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.” Isaiah 66:24
and
48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ Mark 9:48

Oh dear, I was afraid you would want that info Part of the reason that it's such a problem today is because the KJV mistranslated some of the words about hades, hell, gehenna, sheol, etc, and sadly so do some of the other versions. Let me show you:
“Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14) The word "hades" in this verse is actually "hades" in the original language and the word for "death" is "thanatos" in the original language and always translated as "death". So this verse is good just as it's translated by NIV, NASB, AV (KJV), ESV, NET, and at least the first 25 translations I checked!
Revelation 1:18 AV I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. NASB95 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. NIV I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
keys of death and of Hades. Death and Hades are essentially synonyms, but death is the condition and Hades, equivalent to the OT Sheol, the place of the dead (see note on 20:13). Christ decides who lives, who dies, and when. The MacArthur study Bible "death" in Rev 1:18 is also translated from "thanatos" and "hades" is again actually "hades"
“The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” (James 3:6)
hell. A translation of the Gr. word gehenna (or valley of Hinnom). In Christ’s time this valley that lay SW of Jerusalem’s walls served as the city dump and was known for its constantly burning fire. Jesus used that place to symbolize the eternal place of punishment and torment (cf. Mk 9:43, 45). To James “hell” conjures up not just the place but the satanic host that will some day inherit it—they use the tongue as a tool for evil.
The MacArthur study Bible
So, death, hades, sheol and gehenna can be used as synonyms. (although sometimes sheol can mean "grave"; it depends on the context. There are so many different words partly due to the various languages the Bible was written in and partly due to the way the Jew's used the various languages. The only word(s) that is totally different is "lake of fire".
Here's how Strongs defines the three words in the original language used for "lake of fire" 3041 λίμνη [limne /lim·nay/] n f. Probably from 3040 (through the idea of nearness of shore); GK 3349; 10 occurrences; AV translates as “lake” 10 times. 1 a lake.
3588 ὁ [ho, he /ho/] article. In all their inflections, the definite article; GK 3836; 543 occurrences; AV translates as “which” 413 times, “who” 79 times, “the things” 11 times, “the son” eight times, and translated miscellaneously 32 times. 1 this, that, these, etc. Additional Information: Only significant renderings other than “the” counted.
4442 πῦρ [pur /poor/] n n. A root word; TDNT 6:928; TDNTA 975; GK 4786; 74 occurrences; AV translates as “fire” 73 times, and “fiery” once. 1 fire.

Good one! I think you heard MacArthur talk about how Matthew 5:22 was Jesus explaining what "thou shalt not murder" really meant, just as He also explained how lust was part of thou shalt not commit adultery, and so forth. That was a great sermon too! Not many people realize that the kind of thoughts and words you posted about - from contempt to malice, etc are actually breaking the commandment thou shalt not murder!

I actually have probably read that verse ( and the others) a lot....
but yesterday it hit me on a deeper level. I am not saying all social media is totally 'evil'
But it does have ( it seems to me), an aspect, that 'might' be being used by the devil and his minions....
Because we do not see the hurt or anger in another person's face, when we post, It makes it much easier ( at least, I think so), more than ever before....
To be extremely rude and hurtful!
I know there have always been people, since time began, who are and were fine with speaking cutting, hurtful words, and not blink an eye.
But now, because of social media, it's seems almost,
like a training ground, for more and more folks to get in your face with fury!
But although, I 'knew' that happens online.... and I knew those verses
Yesterday, they just hit me a lot harder, and I realized most people are unaware of how they are.... like you said:
"Breaking the commandment not to murder".
And so in 'THAT' way I think Satan is gleeful!
(He was a murderer and liar from the beginning!
And social media ( at times) seems like, his school of higher learning in lies and murder
for humans.

My words will be in this color today, and Biblical Scriptures will be in this color today.
I left off yesterday, with a verse about a 'worm' or 'worms' in Hell:
24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.” Isaiah 66:24
and
48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ Mark 9:48
I can't say for certain, if the 'worms' in Isaiah, are real maggots, or if the 'worm' in Mark, is an endless, accusing conscience?
But either way, (or perhaps both, are true)
This is a terrible state, to be in for eternity!
Here are some other verses about Hell to consider:
Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. Psalm 11:6
God's wrath
30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and storm and hailstones. Isaiah 30:30
Here are two more sad verses:
41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,
42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:41-42
It ironic, many people don't want to hear about Hell, They say it's a 'scare' tactic and/or it's politically incorrect, or It's divisive with other religions etc.
And yet, a person would be derelict of love and compassion,
if they neglected to tell their sleeping neighbors, their house was on fire, or to tell someone a train or car was about to hit them etc.
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Matthew 7:13,14
Another excuse, people give about not believing in Hell: is that people cannot 'see' Hell, therefore, it does not exist!
Well going by that logic, we cannot 'see' quarks or atoms etc. therefore, they do not exist.
or
We do not 'see' electricity as it scampers through the wires in our home...... So electricity does not exist either.... we could go on and on....
But these are a foolish premise to deny the existence of: God, Jesus,Holy Spirit, Angels, Satan, demons, Heaven, Hell etc.
And then there is this excuse: a 'loving' God would not put people in Hell.
People chose Hell, the hate God, and they hate Jesus.
11 Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? Ezekiel 33:11
This will be the final destination of many in the tribulation:
11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” Revelation 14:11

My words will be in this color today and Biblical scriptures in this color today.
I just realized, someone might wonder, if everyone who goes to hell will suffer, to the same degree.
I do not think so, here is a verse suggesting there are differences:
26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 10:26-29
I think the words, how much 'worse' let's us know there is a degree of difference. Frankly, I would never wish to know, by experience exactly what the differences are.
But if anyone, is denying Jesus, and he or she, thinks Hell is going to be a big party.....
Well, perhaps they might need to know the truth.
Here is another verse:
10 So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above.
Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” John 19:10,11
Here, Jesus mentions, a 'greater' sin so there are degrees of sin and thus punishment, I think.
Jesus speaking about 'degrees' of punishment in a parable, said this:
45 But if that servant says to himself, ‘ My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful.
47 And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating.
48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating.
Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.
Luke 12:45-48
Jesus also said this:
20 Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, t hey would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
Matthew 11:21,22
And although the Bible does not say absolutely, there will be different degrees of punishment, it does seem to imply or suggest it, I think.
Here is another:
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
Revelation 20:12
Also
20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
21 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
22 What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
2 Peter 2:20-22
The last state is 'worse', which again, seems to be a different amount of suffering.
Then there is this:
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
James 3:1
Plus:
36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,
37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12:36,37
This verse, makes me think, some people can 'store up' more wrath, perhaps, than others:
5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. Romans 2:5
However, this does not mean, anyone will have it 'easy' in Hell!

And social media ( at times) seems like, his school of higher learning in lies and murder
for humans.
I know what you mean. I don't think that social media is specifically to be blamed though. Rather, I think that people have corrupted their consciences so much that it just no longer matters to them whether they hurt other people or not. It certainly helps that they don't have to look them in the face though. I think that what we see on social media is what people would like to say even in person whether they can bring themselves to do so or not. The fact that they say those things on social media though, is practice for the real world, whether they realize it or not. Little by little we will see those attitudes coming across in the real world as well. That's how people's hearts will continue to grow harder and their love will continue to grow cold.
Done for today
It's interesting that you quoted both Isaiah 66:24 and Mark 9:48 at the beginning. I say that because when Jesus was speaking in Mark 9:47–48, when He got to the last part He was referring to Isaiah 66:24. (Or did you already know that? it wouldn't surprise me lol) The point of both verses wasn't the worms, but was the horrible state of those who rebel against the Lord, unbelievers. The worms are just part of a picture of what happens when a physical body decomposes. It's nasty looking and smelling which is what rebelling against the Lord is like to us and to the Lord.
You make some great points in this one too!

However, this does not mean, anyone will have it 'easy' in Hell!
Done for Today
Another good one! I'd like to add something I found really eye opening. It is of course something from one of MacArthur's books:
On July 8, 1741, Jonathan Edwards preached the most famous sermon ever delivered in the history of America. That sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” presents the true condition of fallen humanity and the need for salvation. Here is an excerpt from his message:
Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with great weight and pressure towards hell; and if God should let you go, you would immediately sink and swiftly descend and plunge into the bottomless gulf, and your healthy constitution, and your own care and prudence, and best contrivance, and all your righteousness, would have no more influence to uphold you and keep you out of hell, than a spider’s web would have to stop a falling rock. . . .
There are the black clouds of God’s wrath now hanging directly over your heads, full of the dreadful storm, and big with thunder; and were it not for the restraining hand of God, it would immediately burst forth upon you. The sovereign pleasure of God, for the present, stays his rough wind; otherwise it would come with fury, and your destruction would come like a whirlwind, and you would be like the chaff of the summer threshing floor. God: coming face to face with His Majesty.
The great news for us is that we don't have to be concerned about this any more! We are in the palm of our loving Savior's hand and no one and nothing (not even ourselves) can take us out of His hand!
I'd also like to add something from a fiction book that I thought captured it very well:
"Do you understand what My Presence truly means?" He had perceived Ela’s lingering doubts, she knew. ...She felt His presence sucked from her body like air - saw it leave in a whirlwind rising above her. He was gone. No! Ela staggered, fighting to breathe. The mimicry of breath she finally managed was a searing torrent of agony. She tried to raise her hands to her throat, then comprehended that even the dust the Creator had used to sculpt her kind was incapable of holding form without His Presence. She crumbled into the ground itself. Bereft of a body, her soul collapsed in fiery torment, screaming for death and for Him. The world around Ela vanished amid flames, leaving her writhing in agony. Without His sustaining Spirit, she could not endure this measureless cauldron of fire. Where was its end? Where was He? Why couldn't she die? Infinite! Let me die! A touch drew her soul from the fire and her body from the dust. Alive, she lay helpless, her face resting against ash tainted desert sand. Clawing the parched ground, which was cold in comparison to what she had just felt, she whimpered, "Please, let me die." He seemed so near that Ela imagined she felt His breath restoring her senses, her sanity. She was trembling, unable to even lift her head. How was it possible she still lived? Who could exist without Him? "Not even those who deny Me can live on this world if I withdraw My Spirit," the Creator murmured into her thoughts. Infinite? Was that like death? "No. That was life without Me. Death without My Presence is immeasurably worse, for it brings eternity in torment, without hope of release." What gives us hope? What gives us eternity with You? "Faith in Me." Prophet, by R.J. Larson

This is 'short Sunday'....My Bible study is shorter on Sundays as I have to get ready and go to church etc.
My words will be in this color and Biblical scriptures in this color today.
We are beginning to get the picture that God does talk about Hell, a lot, in the Bible.
But today in many churches, that is almost a taboo subject.
None of that 'turn or burn' scare tactics!
Many churches today, specialize in ONLY 'God loves you'.
And that IS true, God does love us....
But, so is Hell, a reality and truth, for those sinners who choose to turn their backs on Jesus.
31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” Acts 17:31
or outward sins, and secret inward one also.
16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Romans 2:16
It seems to me, these days, we are even less, concerned about speaking hurtful, angry, vengeful, etc etc. words Hearts seem to have harden more and more so spewing hateful words grows rampantly However.....
37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:37
Maybe we ( I) , need to consider, even my 'words' much more carefully!
and we need to personally check to see if our hearts are getting harden:
5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. Romans 2:5
And tho these next verses are speaking of a city, I think it can also be applied to people:
6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says, ‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.’
8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
Revelation 18:6-8
And John the Baptist said this concerning Hell:
11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
Matthew 3:11,12
The chaff, I believe are unsaved sinners. And in a similar manner, Jesus said this:
38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
Matthew 13:38-40
As we ( I) can see and read, God gives many many warning about Hell.
Tho the physical pain will be more than terrible and excruciating...
To me, the very worst part, will be not to have God, His love His mercy His healing His blessings etc.
How can anyone live without Him?

My words will be in this color and Biblical scriptures in this color today.
It seems as though those who choose to despise God, will get a glimpse of what they spurned, and rejected, before, they are cast into Hell:
28 In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out. Luke 13:28
I think a Christian's greatest hope, is that only a very few people will go to Hell, ( well we wish nobody would have to go)
But unfortunately, it seems like the reverse will be true:
13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Matthew 22:13,14
We would expect weeping, but what is 'gnashing of teeth'?
That implies angry... anger at God.
He has torn me in his wrath and hated me; he has gnashed his teeth at me; my adversary sharpens his eyes against me. Job 16:9
When Steven gave his one and only sermon, the hearers were furious, and they too gnashed their teeth, before killing him:
54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him.
55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.
58 Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him.
Acts 7:54-58
I had always thought, the people in Hell were crying, because, they were broken -hearted, they could not be with Jesus, and so they cried.
But it seems more like they are angry at God.... sort of like a person, who cries because they are caught, and have to go to prison, for a crime they committed.
They are not repentant, just enraged!
There are also those people in Hell, who gleefully, encouraged others, and tempted them to sin....
not just only adults, but they even preyed on children:
5 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,
6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:5,6
A thought that occurs, is how far does, one person's influencing others, to sin go?
Is it just in their life time?
Or do some people's writing, or their life, continue to influence people for centuries even?
Was that their intent?
I think of some satanists etc.
I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. Isaiah 13:11
Jesus said this:
13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.
Matthew 23:13,15
It would be prudent to consider this verse:
7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Galatians 6:7
Also:
29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:29
It seems to me, that many many parents, have jumped on the 'be a friend' to your child, and never discipline him or her.... and certainly, never ever, give them a swat on their behind.
Also, don't ever, make them have any consequences, whatsoever for deliberate misbehavior
Somehow, this spills over, into people disregarding Hell.
They see God is a 'loving' 'parent' ( like themselves) and would never make us suffer, for rebellious constant sinning.
But what does God say, in His Word the Bible?
25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. Colossians 3:25
No human alive now, or who ever lived in the past...
( except Jesus...but he was and is Fully God and fully man)
can out love God, and yet, God, does punish unrepentant sin.
8 The one who does not love does not know God,
for God is love.
1 John 4:8

Good job! I am waiting to see if you think I am done with this or no.
But today, I will start a new study on Prayer of Jabez LOL I have no idea hon. This is your study, so only you can know if you're done with it or not. It also depends on why you're doing the study. Are you doing it for yourself or to give others information about the subject matter? If it's the first, obviously only you can know if you've learned what you wanted to learn from it. If it's the second one, then again only you can know if you've told people what you think they should learn about this subject.

Aha! Well, both....first, I need to be in God's word daily, and studying it. But if anyone should ever read it, then yes, I want to try and give as much accurate information, as I can, and that it will give God the glory.
I asked because, on the last one, I never got around to actually answering the question LOL and I trundled off to this, but you asked me to actually answer the question.
So I wonder if I had done so with this topic.
It is such a sad topic. And yet I read somewhere, that Jesus talked more about Hell than Heaven. I think His loving heart, was pointing out the reality to the unsaved or skeptic.
So if Jesus found it that important, then, I must also.
Still, the horrors of it, and to know, so many have chosen hell, and will continue to do so, is overwhelmingly sad.
I think a lot of people are under the false notion, Heaven will be endlessly boring, and Hell will be like a forever rock or rap concert.
They are wrong on both counts, and they do need to know it.
But I did move on.

Well, the only question was really the difference between the Lake of Fire and Hell, which is a very hard question to answer and a number of different ways to answer it. We dealt with that early on though. However, I will say that even MacArthur isn't clear about it, which surprises me, since he uses both terms interchangeably at times. (although it's possible that the time I heard him do that it was just a slip up). Until he or someone else can tell me how hell and the lake of fire can be the same thing though, I will contend they're different if for no other reason than this scripture: “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14) I checked the original languages and entirely different terms are used for each, every time the Lake of fire is mentioned.
Anyway, concerning talking about hell, I watched MacArthur talk about hell last week and then the other day he talked about God being our worst enemy because He can send both body and soul to Hell. (obviously speaking to the unsaved). I think it's a very important subject for the same reason you do and that Jesus did. The majority of people who live on the earth are going to go to Hell and the majority of people who have lived in the past are currently in Hell. There's a lot of misinformation about Hell, so the people who are going there should at least know what they're going to.
They should know there'll be no party; that they won't see their friends or anyone else there; that Satan doesn't rule there, instead he too is being tortured as are the demons; that they will be conscious and alive there for eternity; they will have regrets and wish that their loved ones would go to heaven although they will realize that those who believed like them will also go to hell. I think some of the best information we have about Hell is when Jesus told about the rich man and Lazarus who both died. That was most likely not a parable but real people who really died that were well known in that town and elsewhere. The rich man, Dives, goes to Hell, and the beggar, Lazarus goes to Heaven. Jesus focuses on what happened to the rich man so we'd know more about Hell.
Ok, I'll go see what you're doing now. I sure hope you read the list first though!

I find it a bit confusing also ( which is which, but the verse you posted:
“Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)
Really does seem, to settle it.
In any case, which ever, neither ...or.... is a place, anyone who want to go not even for a minute never mind an eternity.
I 'think' I read, the right list.......eeeekkkk
I imagine you will let me know if not.
