It breaks my heart to see what's happening to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Many simply don't know any better and others have been outright lied to and misled, but they're all shaming the Name of Christ and bringing dishonor to God by their words and behavior. Most of us are quick to condemn people who riot and steal and kill, but we're often doing just as much ugly damage by our words. What's heartbreaking is that the main thing that our Lord stressed is that we are to love one another and do all we can to live in peace with each other. People try to get out of that by saying the people they rant at aren't really Christians, but that won't work, because Jesus told us to love the unsaved as well! There is no one that we are told we don't have to love. We are not to just say we love them, we're to treat them as though they're dearly loved. In fact, we're to go out of our way to show our love. And most certainly, all of our words are to be said with love and in love.
I can hear it now...people saying, "they have to be corrected but I am saying it in love!" Bologna! Our Lord never tells us that we're to tell others how to think or who they should like for a president. The only time we're told to rebuke someone is when the person is saved and we are rebuking them for a sin they're already aware they're committing.
It's bad enough to have to hear or read what the unsaved say to each other concerning Trump. But it's a thousand times worse to hear it from people who are supposed to be saved and showing the world what the love of Jesus looks and sounds like. Honestly, because of the horrible way I've seen my brothers and sisters treat each other over another human being - Trump, I've gotten to the point where I hate even hearing the name because I know it's going to be followed by a lot of angry put downs and garbage.
Does the way you respond to people who don't like Trump or don'g agree with something he's done show that you honor them more then yourself? (Romans 12:10) Does it show that you're serving them in love, or that you're continuing to bite and devour each other? (Galatians 5:13–15)
Does your attitude display a gentle and quiet spirit that God calls beautiful in women? (1 Peter 3:4) Does it show the compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and love, and bearing with each other that we're supposed to be showing? (Colossians 3:12–14)
Does your attitude show that you're doing all you can to live at peace with others? (Romans 12:18)
The anger we're seeing is yet another sign that we're living in the last days of this age. Don't allow the prophecy of what the people will be like now be about you. (“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,” Matthew 24:12)
Instead, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22–24)
If Trump is so important to you that you would knowingly bash another human being who is made in the image of God, insisting that they must agree with you, then you have made Trump into an idol and you need to repent. He has become an idol because he's more important to you then being obedient to the God who loves you and gave His life for you.
I could literally write page after page after page of scriptures that show that Jesus does not want those who belong to Him to act this way. I won't do that, but I will write some here for those who don't know their Bible the way they should.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” (Romans 14:19)
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:29–32)
““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”” (John 13:34–35)
“Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.” (Proverbs 17:14)
“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (James 1:19–20)
“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” (Proverbs 19:11)
“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:21–22)
