I would like to share a story of healing that may bring hope to the hurting. It is in the form of a vision, and was passed on to me by a close friend, who felt that it expressed what it is like to be freed from the painful effects of abuse:
Unveiled before me was a scene of children playing in a courtyard. When two women entered the picture I realized what was strange about the whole scenario. All but these two women were hobbling and limping, even the small children. One of these women lifted a child and sat her on a low wall and as she did so I was drawn to something strange on the child’s feet. The women asked the child why her feet were so tightly bound and I heard the child say that it was the tradition to do this to girls’ feet from infancy. These little ones had no power to object or break free and consequently their feet became deformed and they were never able to walk unhindered.
One of the ladies gently cradled two tiny feet in her lap and slowly began to unwind the crushing black bands that bound the tiny feet. The trembling child began to struggle and cry out in fear and pain. The girl’s anguish and pain-wracked cries were sandwiched between growing sighs of relief. I watched, my breath catching in my throat, as the tears that fell from the cheeks of the lady kissed those tiny, bruised and crushed feet. This precious child had to go through pain in order to experience freedom from what had bound her for years. It was her only hope of walking properly. Then she would grow and flourish.
I saw the two ladies pick up the girl in their arms. They carried her to a quiet spot and applied ointment and massaged those tiny feet, and I saw them help the child take her 1st step. She walked, gingerly holding on to them for support. Later she simply held an arm, and eventually walked alongside them, unaided. The little girl was not only free but she was supported and drawn by the tears and hands of love held out to her as she made her 1st faltering steps. So it is for each person as faltering steps are taken into life beyond abuse. God reaches down and takes hold of the person with never–ending love and compassion. He has a tailor-made healing program to suit every individual. He gathers all the tears of pain and with compassion and love turns them into pure drops of gold.
