Thankfully I had just finished studying Daniel again when this covid 19 virus thing started. I saw a fairly good prayer written about it, but parts just didn't seem right. Plus the Lord had convicted me even as I was reading it that we should be praying Daniel's prayer (or rather portions of it that would apply to us and our situation.) The reason I say that is because God allows or sends things like this as judgment for sins. We can certainly admit that the world has become very sinful and are basically throwing their sins in God's face as though they don't care. But, like Daniel, we can't blame all the sin on "other people", we must confess and repent of our own sin as well. So using Daniel's prayer as a guideline, I wrote a prayer for covid 19:
Heavenly Father, This virus has reminded us of our frailty and our dependence on You. We are reminded of how powerless we really are. So we repent of our self-sufficiency and of all our sins. “We have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands.” (Daniel 9:5) ““Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame— because of our unfaithfulness to you.” (Daniel 9:7) “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;” (Daniel 9:9) “All this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.” (Daniel 9:13)
Lord, we come before you and ask Your forgiveness now and ask that You would spare us from the pandemic of COVID-19 which is spreading panic and sickness all over the world.
We praise You for Your Son, Jesus Christ who has defeated death for us who believe and know Him. We look forward to the day You send Him to come for us and take us to be with Him as He promised us.
We pray earnestly for the doctors, nurses, and health care professionals who are putting their lives on the line for their neighbors. May you give them strength, endurance, and physical immunity during this time, so they can help push back against this ravaging virus.
We pray for the scientists who are working so hard to get a vaccine for us. We pray for their endurance, for knowledge, wisdom, discernment, breakthroughs, and for resources for them.
Lord, you are the Great Physician, so we pray for healing for the victims of COVID-19. Lord, you are the Comforter, so please comfort our troubled souls and bring peace to our minds and hearts. I would ask too Lord, that you would spare anyone who is still unsaved and keep them from dying from this virus, and instead use it to lead them and their loved ones to salvation. I ask too that you would free your children of fear and enable them to show your love and help to others during this time. I would ask too that you would enable all the legitimate businesses to survive this crisis, especially those that honor you.
Dear God, move in the hearts of our public officials. As you have instructed us in your Word, we earnestly beseech you on behalf of our president, Congress, governors, mayors, and local officials. We pray you guide them with wisdom and knowledge, and discernment.
We also pray for the people in our nation and the nations of the world to be humbled and turn to you in repentance and faith. We know you are the Prince of peace, Lord of lords, the King of kings. We praise you for your goodness and your mercy. We long for our blessed hope, the completion of our salvation and to be with our Lord for ever! We thank and praise you for your many blessings O Lord, for you have showered us with blessings every day! Your mercy is new every morning! Oh how we love you Lord, and pray that you would grow our love so that it's greater then ever! We thank and praise you for Jesus and how He has changed our lives. We praise and thank you for the great privilege and honor of having your Word to read and study; and that you use your word to renew our minds and grow us in our faith and love. Bless you Lord, for you forgive our sins and heal our diseases, you never treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our sins. Your love for us is a great mystery to me Lord, but I'm so very grateful that you do love us and have saved us and that you have promised to listen to our prayer. (parts of psalm 103)
“Give ear, O God, and hear; We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, (Daniel 9:18–19)
We ask this all in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
