I forgot what book we were going to study next, and I forgot to ask.
Soooo I will do Haggai 1
God thru Haggai does not call the Jews 'His' people like He often did, but rather 'these 'people. These people had built homes for themselves first ( self first) , but not the Lord's house, they said it was not time....and they had a lot of excuses they didn't have money there was a drought they had enemies etc.
This is a message to me, to not delay and make excuses and put myself, above God).
But now God tells them thru Haggai to go and gather wood etc. God explains that such behavior ( excuses and delaying, selfishness, etc.) had ,(and will have consequences).
And the people obeyed God....so should I. We can and do sometimes veer off into selfishness, but we can get back on the straight and narrow...... that may sound limiting, but in fact, it is freeing and gives joy.
Furthermore, what more wonderful thing than to have God say, as He did to the people: "I am with you, declares the Lord."

Haggai 2
The Coming Glory of the Temple
God asks those that had seen Solomon's temple, how do they see the here and now: "How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes"?
I fall into this trap almost daily. I will never be as useful to God because I did not study the Bible like all the 'great Christians of the past....or even of the here and now. But the result of such comparing, is to give up and do nothing....after all, what good is almost nothing?
Forgetting, God can and has out of absolute 'nothing', at least materially, created a universe! What IF I only said one word for the Lord my whole life? Who am I? god could take that one word, and effect someone's heart so deeply, that they became a great servant of the Lord that would bring thousands upon thousands to salvation.
God warns us not to compare ourselves, because yes, He does give one more 'gifts' or in a bigger amount than another....but that does not mean the one He gave less to is not blessed by what he or she has been given.
So what are we to do when we have less? God tells them: "Be strong" Don't curl up and grumble about what I do not have rather: "Work, for I am with you" ( in other words, use what little you have with joy) "Fear not" ( opps, the very 'name' I choose LOL)
God reminds them He did great things in the past. Do we ( I) think He can no longer? He made a universe....He is going to make another....so can He not work now in littler things? Of course!
They said they were too poor, but God reminds them He owns everything, including Gold and Silver, so not to worry about provisions.
He will bring peace also.
Blessings for a Defiled People
Holiness does not come by touching a 'holy' piece of cloth, or holding a relic, or kissing a ring on a 'holy' person but on the other hand, surrounding our lives with uncleanliness ( in so many ways, our eyes watching porn, listening to people swear, gossip, tell sexually explicit jokes etc., hanging out with evil people as our friends, not trying to save them from Hell, etc etc.) will begin to contaminate us
so just thinking you live in the holy land, your family is saved, etc. won't by meiosis make you holy... so those people couldn't be holy by just living in the land but neglecting God. And neglecting God in your life will have consequences....but like these folks, people don't always make the connection....maybe for some people, because, in a way, they don't even want to.
and finally Zerubbabel was chosen as a signet.

The timeline of when Haggai and Zechariah prophesied in Judah was the year 520 BC. I noticed in chapter 1, in both verse 5 and 7 the same thing is said, " Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways. In chapter 2:6-7 In a little while I will shake the nations and fill the house with glory.

I locked the Joshua thread yesterday, hoping I was locking it before you could start this one. Of course, as soon as I posted my reply to you, I discovered you'd already posted this one there and had to move it. But I forgot to unlock it so you could reply to me. I've unlocked it now though.
I forgot what book we were going to study next, and I forgot to ask.

Furthermore, what more wonderful thing than to have God say, as He did to the people: "I am with you, declares the Lord." Very good! But what do we usually make excuses about? I know many people make excuses about spending time in His Word daily. We tend to come up with all kinds of excuses for that! Or we'll make excuses about going to church. (Obviously, I'm not talking about those who are physically unable to go). Then there's our excuses for giving to the Church we're attending. I'd say those are probably the three biggest things we tend to make excuses about, but there's plenty of other things as well. We can't out do God. He blesses us for every step of obedience we take!

Very good, but you missed something important here. ““This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty.” (Haggai 2:6–7) This is describing what will happen in the future. It's also described in Rev 6–19, and when Jesus sets up His Kingdom on earth as described in Dan 2:44; 7:27; Zec 14:16–21; Mt 25:32; Lk 21:26; Heb 12:26; Rev 19:19–21. Then there's these verses: ““Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I will shake the heavens and the earth. I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.” (Haggai 2:21–22) Again haggai returns to the Millennial reign of Jesus and what will happen then. ““ ‘On that day,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the LORD Almighty.”” (Haggai 2:23) Zerubbabel represents the Davidic dynasty and the resumption of the messianic line interrupted by the Exile. The signet ring of Jehoiachin was removed by God (Jeremiah 22:24–30) before the exile to Babylon (where it would be useless) when He cursed him for his disobedience. It's renewed here for his grandson, Zerubbabel, reestablishing the Davidic line of kings, which will end in the millennial reign of Christ. Here's the verse about the ring: ““As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would still pull you off.” (Jeremiah 22:24) And this one really shows how God ended it with him: “Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot, an object no one wants? Why will he and his children be hurled out, cast into a land they do not know? O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: “Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah.”” (Jeremiah 22:28–30)
Thank you Marlene!
