Hong Kong residents who oppose a controversial extradition bill have held their first large-scale rally in the Kowloon district.
Protesters gathered on Sunday in the busy shopping and entertainment district that is popular with visitors from mainland China. The organizers say about 230,000 people took part. Previous rallies were held in the central part of the territory, where government offices and the parliament are located.
The massive demonstrations have forced the Hong Kong government to effectively scrap the bill that would allow the transfer of criminal suspects to the mainland.
Getting very ugly very fast indeed
