Andy Stanley says Ten Commandments don't apply to Christians
By Michael Gryboski, Christian Post Reporter January 08, 2019
Christians should quit erecting Ten Commandments displays and should instead consider making monuments dedicated to the Sermon on the Mount, popular pastor Andy Stanley said.
In a column published by Relevant Magazine, the North Point Community Church pastor argued that the Ten Commandments are “the old covenant” and no longer apply to believers.
"If we’re going to create a monument to stand as a testament to our faith, shouldn’t it at least be a monument of something that actually applies to us?" he posed.
“Participants in the new covenant (that’s Christians) are not required to obey any of the commandments found in the first part of their Bibles,” wrote Stanley. “Participants in the new covenant are expected to obey the single command Jesus issued as part of his new covenant: as I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
This new commandment is "a replacement for everything in the existing list. Including the big ten," he maintained. "Just as his new covenant replaced the old covenant, Jesus’ new commandment replaced all the old commandments."
Stanley went on to say that he believed so much of the evils committed by churches over history were connected to them trying to mix aspects of the old covenant with Christianity and that although “Jesus was foreshadowed in the old covenant, he did not come to extend it.”
“Dear Christian reader: Why? Why? Why would we even be tempted to reach back beyond the cross to borrow from a covenant that was temporary and inferior to the covenant established for us at Calvary?” Stanley continued.

Sad
"John MacArthur said that
"Some people have said, and it's nothing new, it's rather old,
"Forget about the Old Testament.
All we really need is the New Testament."
And there are many people who carry around a New Testament who know very little about the Old Testament. Some people would say, "Well, Abraham and Moses have very little to do with us. All we need to do is stick to the things that are revealed at the coming of Christ and afterwards."
And some people would cut off the New Testament from the Old, Christ from Israel.
Martin Luther faced it in his own day, and he made this statement:
"The Old Testament is the cradle in which the Christ child is laid."
It is not irrelevant to study the Old Testament, for the New Testament finds its birth in the Old. The Old Testament heritage supports the New Testament and explains it."

This is not the first time I have heard this & I saw this actually yesterday on Facebook. We no longer need the Ten Commandments at all. While Jesus summarized the Ten Commandments he did say that He came to Fulfill the Law not destroy it. I can't recall the verse off the top of my head I am sure you can do a search & look it up. Jesus also said that not one jot or tiddle of the law would pass away except that which is fulfilled (pertaining to some rituals & laws where Jesus fulfilled them by his death such as sacrifices for the forgiveness of sin & other some others). The law stands for eternity. The Ten commandments are part of these laws.
When we interpret the bible selectively we get such false teachings. These people have done the classic use a few scriptures to support their own ideologies instead of interpreting scriptures according to the full Word of God. All scripture has to agree with other scripture. So they ignore the scriptures that are totally contradictory to their own personal interpretation.
Sadly many people just accept teaching from people like this & are not reading their bibles or doing research of their own to see if what they are listening to actually agrees with the Bible. The Bereans in Paul's time were glad to hear him preaching but wise enough to go to the scriptures to makes sure it all checked out (as recorded in the book of Acts). And so we all need to do this. May God help us to avoid being led astray by False Teachers & their false teachings.

So... if 'pastor' Stanley says Christians don't need the 10 commandments is he saying,
we can take the Lord's name in vain, make ourselves carved images, steal, commit adultery, lie, murder etc.

we can take the Lord's name in vain, make ourselves carved images, steal, commit adultery, lie, murder etc. Yes & what these people also forget is the laws we see written in the Old Testament are there to ensure we know what God classifies as Sin so we can avoid it. The Ten commandments & other laws are there to help us know what NOT to do & when we obey these laws we live in a way that pleases God. People often only have a negative view of God's laws but they are given to us so we do not have to guess how to obey God, we can know exactly how to please Him. Setting boundaries & limitations for our children as parents guards them & gives them protection from doing wrong. Same thing with God's laws, they are a good thing.

Has Andy Stanley read the Sermon on the Mount?
Joseph Farah
Mega-pastor Andy Stanley seems determined to drive a wedge between what we call the Old Testament and the New Testament – otherwise known as the Hebrew Scriptures and Greek Scriptures.
He says the former are outdated, anachronistic, not applicable to Christians, obsolete, done, finished, completed, replaced – no longer necessary. Sadly, he even refers to them as “the Jewish Scriptures.”
He could not be more wrong nor could he be teaching a more dangerous heresy.
He says Jesus left us with only one commandment: “That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” (John 13:34)
He says he wishes Christians would therefore stop posting the Ten Commandments and start posting that new one – or Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
Wait a minute! I love the Sermon on the Mount. But does Stanley realize the Sermon on the Mount repeats principles and themes – in some cases even in direct quotes – found throughout the Old Testament?
Does Stanley know this is where Jesus made this unequivocal statement?
Matthew 5:17-20: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
That’s the law Stanley says no longer applies.
Did he ever notice that Jesus didn’t lower the bar on perfection with a new commandment we could easily all perform – namely loving each other like He loved us? Don’t we all realize that command is a lot harder than avoiding adultery or not honoring one’s parents? Are any of us capable of loving others like Jesus loves us? We need to seek His forgiveness daily for our lack of love toward each other as well as toward Him.
