'Trump made a Churchillian decision on Iran'
Hezki Baruch, 09/05/18
MK Amir Ohana (Likud) compared US President Donald Trump to Winston Churchill following Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal Tuesday.
"I think that what we witnessed yesterday is a Churchillian move by the President, Donald J. Trump, who has proven himself to be a man of his word, and the closest ally - not only that we have - but that we have ever had in the White House," MK Ohana told Arutz Sheva.
"This move will contribute not only to Israel's security and defense, but to the peace of the world, because there is no doubt that the Iranian regime strives to set foot in this region for the purposes of war," he added.

Biden blasts Trump's decision on Iran
Elad Benari, 09/05/18
Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday slammed President Donald Trump after he announced his decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear accord and reimpose sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
In a statement, Biden said "it took years" to form the agreement and that no next step is apparent. He suggested that the Trump administration would be hard-pressed to more effectively curtail Iran's nuclear ambitions.
"Talk of a 'better deal' is an illusion," Biden said, according to The Hill. "It took years of sanctions pressure, painstaking diplomacy, and the full support of the international community to achieve that goal. We have none of that in place today."
Biden called Trump's move to pull the U.S. out of the multilateral accord, which could possibly unravel entirely the 2015 agreement that allows international inspection of the country's nuclear facilities in exchange for sanctions relief, a "profound mistake" and "unnecessary crisis" that alienates key allies.
"All it will likely accomplish is to put Iran back on the path to a nuclear weapon with no clear diplomatic way out," Biden warned, adding that the U.S. is now on a "collision course not only with an adversary but also with our closest partners."
Earlier, former President Barack Obama also blasted Trump’s decision and called it “misguided”.

Kerry: Trump decision puts Israel at risk
Elad Benari, 09/05/18
Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal, warning the decision places Israel at risk.
"Today's announcement weakens our security, breaks America's word, isolates us from our European allies, puts Israel at greater risk, empowers Iran's hardliners, and reduces our global leverage to address Tehran's misbehavior, while damaging the ability of future administrations to make international agreements," Kerry said in a statement.

Iranian Parliamentarians Shout ‘Death to America,’ Burn US Flag
By JNS May 9, 2018
“Rise, Hashem, in Your anger; assert Yourself against the fury of my foes; bestir Yourself on my behalf; You have ordained judgment.” Psalms 7:7
...The 2015 Iran nuclear deal imposed limited restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for a lifting of international sanctions by the United States and many other countries, including the European Union.
Just over a week before Trump’s announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a televised, English-language presentation displaying evidence stolen by the Mossad from Iranian secret Revolutionary Guard storehouses, showing that Iran had lied about the intentions and progress of its nuclear program and weaponization capabilities.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called on Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany to provide assurances that Iran would continue to receive the economic relief promised to it under the deal, or else it too may back out.
Trump has called on Britain, France, and Germany to develop a new agreement restricting Iran’s ballistic missile program, providing increased to military sites for U.N. nuclear inspectors, and removing expiration dates on uranium and plutonium enrichment restrictions.

IAEA says Iran keeping ‘nuclear-related commitments’ under deal
By AFP
VIENNA, Austria — The UN nuclear watchdog confirmed Wednesday Iran is implementing “nuclear-related commitments” under its deal with world powers, a day after US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of lying about its nuclear ambitions.
“As of today, the IAEA can confirm that the nuclear-related commitments are being implemented by Iran,” Yukiya Amano, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in a statement.
Trump announced Tuesday that the US would pull out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), sparking an outcry from much of the international community.

Europeans say nuke deal not dead, plan high-level meet with Iranians
By Agencies
European officials sought to reassure allies that the nuclear deal with Iran would not dissolve because of the US decision to withdraw from the pact, and planned a meeting with Iranian representatives next week.
The EU believes “that this is an agreement which belongs to the international community,” EU ambassador to China Hans Dietmar Schweisgut said during a press briefing in Beijing. “This is not an agreement that will fall apart if you just walk away.”
Negotiated by the Obama administration, the 2015 Iran accord included EU members Germany, France and Britain, and had lifted most US and international economic sanctions against Iran. In exchange, Iran agreed to restrictions on its nuclear program, making it impossible to produce a bomb and establishing rigorous inspections.

Iran's Rouhani seen as lame duck after Trump ditches deal
Parisa Hafezi
ANKARA (Reuters) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani put his political life on the line to champion a nuclear deal with Western powers in the face of fierce opposition from hardliners at home.
With the deal now on shaky ground after U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out, the 69-year-old mild-mannered cleric faces the prospect of serving out his second term as a lame duck leader.
A pragmatic politician with an impeccable background in Iran’s clerical establishment, Rouhani came into his own in 2013 when Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei needed to shore up the establishment’s legitimacy.
Already threatened in 2009 when millions of Iranians took to the streets to protest against alleged election fraud, Iran’s rulers came under mounting Western pressure in 2013 over the country’s nuclear program and concerns Israel might attack.

Exiting Iran Deal, Trump Signals: 'America Resumes Regional Leadership'
By Alex Traiman/JNS.org May 11, 2018
...In the years since the 2015 signing of JCPOA, Iranian aggression throughout the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, has increased exponentially, posing direct threats to some of America's closest allies in the Middle East.
At the same time, Israel's recent presentation of secret Iranian nuclear documents, photographs and simulations has confirmed the worst fears of Iran's neighbors: that Iran's nuclear program is significantly more sophisticated than Iran had admitted or the International Atomic Energy Agency had been able to confirm.
Yet withdrawing from the JCPOA represents a radical shift in U.S. policy, confusing many European allies and world powers who were convinced by the previous administration to support a plan that now represents, at best, a failed attempt to subdue Iranian nuclear pursuits, or at worst, one of the biggest foreign-policy blunders in U.S. history.
And just as the signing of the JCPOA at the time represented a major milestone in the foreign-policy legacy of the Obama administration, Trump's speech announcing America's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal also portends to be among the president's key foreign-policy initiatives, sending reverberations around the world.
According to David Wurmser, a former Mideast adviser to U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and special assistant to John R. Bolton at the State Department, one of the most crucial elements of the president's speech is "the signal that America has resumed its regional leadership role."
"The period of American hesitance is over, and a deep sense of guilt over some past policies toward Iran or the Middle East has been replaced by unapologetic national confidence," Wurmser tells JNS. "We confront our self-proclaimed enemies, not descend into quixotic efforts to appease them into more productive behavior."
Wurmser suggests that by reversing the previous policy, the United States has "accepted the responsibility again of ensuring that American interests will drive policy, and that while our alliances are appreciated, they are to be understood in the context of interests, not instead of them."
"Our national interests are absolute in informing our policy and take precedence over our international relations when the latter conflict with the former," he said.

In An Historic Move, President Trump Withdraws the United States from the “Defective At Its Core” Iran Nuclear Deal
By ACLJ.org
It’s a victory for America and our allies as President Trump, true to his word, has officially withdrawn the United States from what he accurately called the “defective at its core” Iran nuclear deal. Further, the President has ordered that sanctions be re-imposed on Iran in an expeditious manner.
The 2015 deal brokered by former Secretary of State John Kerry and implemented by President Obama profited Iran and hurt the rest of the world, and worst of all put our ally Israel in grave danger.
Iran has lied over and again about their nuclear program and their intentions. We were once again reminded of this fact when Israel exposed their most recent lies about their nuclear ambitions.
They practically broadcast their plans and their target to the world when, as we reported, they tested ballistic missiles with the words “Israel must be destroyed” emblazoned on the sides. They clearly had every intention to develop a nuclear arsenal and the nuclear deal as it stood did nothing to stop them.
Other world leaders acknowledged the problems in the deal but chose to do nothing but let it move forward.

Top IAEA official resigns unexpectedly
Elad Benari, Canada, 11/05/18
The chief of inspections at the UN nuclear watchdog agency resigned suddenly, the agency said on Friday without giving a reason, according to Reuters.
The departure of Tero Varjoranta comes at a sensitive time, three days after the United States announced it was quitting the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
Varjoranta, a native of Finland, had been a deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and head of its Department of Safeguards, which verifies countries’ compliance with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, since October 2013.
...
The IAEA, which is in charge of making sure Iran is complying with the 2015 deal, has released several reports which showed that Iran was continuing to abide by the deal's key measures.
In March, Amano said inspectors had had "access to all the sites and locations which we needed to visit" in Iran while warning against the deal falling apart.
On Thursday, officials in Washington said the White House wants inspections of Iran's nuclear sites to continue despite Trump's withdrawal from the deal.
