And excerpt about the Bible from MacArthur's book, Totally sufficient
WHAT MEN HAVE SAID ABOUT THE BIBLE
The Bible is the instrument God has chosen to make visible the invisible, to make tangible the intangible, to make understandable the unfathomable. When we hold a Bible in our hands, we have a private audience with the Ruler of the universe. Just as the virgin birth of Jesus Christ is unique among all other births so the Bible is unique among all other books.
Patrick Henry said, “The Bible is worth all other books that have ever been printed.”
Abraham Lincoln said, “I believe the Bible is the best gift God ever gave to man.”
Robert E. Lee said, “In all my perplexes and distresses the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength.”
George Washington said, “It is impossible rightly to govern the world without God and the Bible.”
Napoleon said, “The Bible is no mere book, it is a living creature with a power that conquers all who oppose it.”
Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury and one of the leaders of the English Reformation, said, “This book which is the word of God is the most precious jewel, the most holy relic that remains on earth.”
Hugh Latimer, an English Reformer martyred for his faith, said, “The excellency of this word is so great and of so high a dignity there is nothing on earth which can be compared to it.”
John Calvin said, “The Word of God must be given a place of unusurped honor within the church.”
What the Bible Says About Itself
Consider what Peter wrote under the inspiration of God’s own Spirit. In 1 Pet 1:23 he said, “You have been born again...through the living and enduring word of God.” The Bible alone has saving power. In v 22 we read, “You have purified yourselves by obeying the truth.” The Bible alone has sanctifying power. & finally, he concluded, “The word of the Lord shall stand forever.” (v 25) The Bible alone has staying power.
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.” (1 Peter 1:23–25)
Totally sufficient
There's a great deal more about what Bible says about itself, but it would be way too long to post.
