Is the pope Catholic?

I’m not sure, if Pope Francis told an atheist Italian journalist that “hell does not exist,” as has been reported.
But here’s the thing: Is it hard to believe that this pope would say such a thing?
My answer is no. I wasn’t surprised at all to read the report, before the denials began. It would be right in character for the man who made the following statements, among others, that wholly contradict the Word of God, the Holy Bible, the Scriptures, the Oracles of God.
-You don’t have to believe in God to receive the gift of life everlasting...
-Asked why he wanted to become pope, he responded: “I didn’t, a person who wants to become pope doesn’t love himself...
-“Proselytism is solemn nonsense..."
-“Inequality is the root of social evil.”...
-“God is not a divine being or a magician, but the Creator who brought everything to life. Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”...
