Poll: Two-thirds of Americans approve of Trump-Kim meeting
Ben Ariel, 28/03/18
Nearly two-thirds of Americans approve of President Donald Trump's decision to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, finds a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS and released on Tuesday.
62% of respondents said they approve of the meeting, with 31% saying they disapprove. The President's overall approval for handling the situation with North Korea has climbed from a November low of 35% to 43% now, a new high, according to the poll.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Trump has accepted an invitation to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by May.
Trump later said he anticipates "tremendous success" in the meeting. The White House has stressed, however, that any meeting between Trump and Kim would be conditioned on “concrete actions” by Pyongyang.
Tuesday’s poll found that the shift in tone between the White House and the North Korean regime seems to have eased Americans' fears about the threat North Korea poses to the U.S.

North Korea says will stop nuclear tests, scrap test site
Soyoung Kim, Cynthia Kim April 20, 2018
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday it would immediately suspend nuclear and missile tests, scrap its nuclear test site and instead pursue economic growth and peace, ahead of planned summits with South Korea and the United States.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country no longer needed to conduct nuclear tests or intercontinental ballistic missile tests because it had completed its goal of developing the weapons, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
Kim is scheduled to hold talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in next week and with U.S. President Donald Trump in late May or early June.
The pledge to halt the development of nuclear weapons, initiated by his grandfather, would mean a significant reversal for Kim, 34, who for years has celebrated such weapons as a pillar of his regime’s legitimacy and power.
A testing freeze and commitment to close the test site alone would fall short of Washington’s demand that Pyongyang completely dismantle all its nuclear weapons and missiles.
But announcing the concessions now, rather than during summit meetings, shows Kim is serious about decentralization talks, experts say.
“The northern nuclear test ground of the DPRK will be dismantled to transparently guarantee the discontinuance of the nuclear test,” KCNA said after Kim convened a plenary session of the Central Committee of the ruling Worker’s Party on Friday.

Allen West Advises Caution on Korean Peace Proclamation: Hitler Signed Munich Accords
By Michael Morris | April 27, 2018
As South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un stood side by side, agreeing on peace, unification, and denuclearization, retired Lieutenant Colonel Allen West advized caution on the peace proclamation, reminding that Hitler signed the Munich Accords.
“North and South Korea sign proclamation to denuclearize the Korean peninsula and potentially end the Korean War,” LTC Allen West wrote in a tweet on his Twitter page Friday morning. “I advise caution. In 1938 Chamberlain met w/Hitler & signed Munich Accords. Chamberlain claimed peace, Hitler later said it was just a piece of paper.”

5 Things to Know About the New Agreement Between North and South Korea
By Leonardo Blair , Christian Post Reporter | Apr 27, 2018
South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared an official end to the Korean War and agreed to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula in a historic summit meeting at the Joint Security Area of Panmunjom inside the heavily-fortified Demilitarized Zone that divides the two nations on Friday.
It was the first time a North Korean leader had ever set foot in South Korea, The New York Times said.
Please do not forget the great help that my good friend, President Xi of China, has given to the United States, particularly at the Border of North Korea. Without him it would have been a much longer, tougher, process! — Donald J. Trump (@realdonaldtrump) April 27, 2018
President Donald Trump, who is expected to meet with the North Korean leader in the coming weeks, acknowledged the talks between the two Koreas early Friday morning and erupted with excitement on Twitter after the two leaders had reached the agreement.
"After a furious year of missile launches and Nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea is now taking place. Good things are happening, but only time will tell!" Trump tweeted as the meeting between the two leaders was underway.
A few minutes later, he noted about the war which ravaged the peninsula from 1950 to 1953: "KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!"

North Korea releases detained Americans ahead of planned Trump-Kim summit
Makini Brice, Susan Heavey
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - North Korea released three American detainees and handed them over to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday, clearing a major obstacle to an unprecedented summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump said the three men, who were freed after Pompeo met Kim, were on the way home from Pyongyang on the chief U.S. diplomat’s plane. The president planned to greet them when they land at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington at 2 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT) Thursday morning.
The release appeared to signal an effort by Kim to set a more positive tone for the summit and followed his recent pledge to suspend missile tests and shut Pyongyang’s nuclear bomb test site.
While Kim is giving up the last of his remaining American prisoners who North Korea has often used in the past as bargaining chips with the United States, it could also be aimed at pressuring Trump to make concessions of his own in his bid to get Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear arsenal.
