By Chris Shadrock November 05, 2017
SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas - A shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Sunday morning left 26 people -- ranging in age from 5 to 72 years old -- dead and 20 wounded, authorities say.
Devin Patrick Kelley, of New Braunfels, has been identified as the gunman.
Kelley walked into the First Baptist Church and began shooting around 11:20 a.m., before fleeing in a vehicle, Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said. Witnesses said Kelley was dressed in all black tactical gear and a ballistic vest and a Department of Public Safety official said he was carrying a Ruger ARb assault-type rifle.
Here's everything we know about the Sutherland Springs church shooting
Tackitt said Kelley was later found dead in the vehicle in Guadalupe County. The exact circumstances of his death are not known.

Why, God?
November 6, 2017
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. John 11:25
Like the rest of America, I am in total shock! Grief! Tears seem to come and go unexpectedly throughout the day. A heart that doesn’t stop aching for the family members and friends of those massacred in the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs. When I awaken during the night, I’m aware that my spirit has been praying for them even as I sleep. During the day I find myself praying for them without ceasing.
Why? Why, dear God, would You allow something so horrific to take place? In a church? So evil. So senseless. So terrifying. Help me understand.
In answer to my heart’s cry, John 11 came to mind. Mary and Martha had sent word to Jesus that their brother Lazarus was sick. Implied was a desperate plea for help. But Jesus stayed where He was for four days. And Lazarus died. When Jesus did show up, Mary and Martha responded like many I have read on social media following the Texas massacre: Why didn’t You come when we asked? If prayer worked, Lazarus wouldn’t be dead. You’re late! Although I’ve paraphrased what they actually said, that was their meaning.

Keith Olbermann: President Trump a ‘Pig’ for Invoking God Instead of Gun Control
by AWR Hawkins6 Nov 2017
Within hours of the horrendous Texas church shooting, Keith Olbermann called President Donald Trump a “pig” for invoking God instead of gun control.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning in Sutherland Springs, Texas, where a 26-year-old man who was reportedly “an atheist” and who thought Christians were “stupid” opened fire on the congregants of First Baptist Church. The attacker killed 26 people. His violence was stopped by a good guy with a gun who “took cover behind a car” and shot at the attacker.
President Trump was in Japan when the attack occurred. He tweeted:
May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan.
— Donald J. Trump (@realdonaldtrump) November 5, 2017
Olbermann responded to Trump by tweeting, “You pig, Real Donald Trump. If the shooter were a person of color or a Muslim, you’d be heading home calling for the death penalty.”
A couple of points need to be made here. Number one: it would not be practical to call for the death penalty regardless of the person’s skin color because the gunman was killed. It has yet to be determined if he was killed by the armed citizen, by law enforcement, or a by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but he was dead minutes after the attack either way.

After Texas massacre, pastor calls on U.S. churches to 'protect flocks'
Greg Corombos
...Holley said Sunday’s massacre is another reminder that none of us know how long we have to live. He said that fact should raise eternal questions in everyone’s minds.
“The hard news is, it is appointed once for man to die, and after that there’s a judgment. So each of us, somewhere in God’s day timer, has an appointment where we will face Him. The real issue is, did I seek forgiveness of my sins through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and am I ready for that time?
“There nothing that can prevent our death. We will not live one day longer than God wants us to or one day shorter. He will have us at His appointed time. People need to understand that’s a significant thing. We don’t live forever. We need to make sure that our eternal security is taken care of and that we’ve placed our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ,” Holley said.
At the same time, Holley said church leaders have a responsibility to protect their family when they gather for worship. In the wake of the Sandy Hook school murders, Immanuel Bible Church got even more serious about security.
“At Immanuel Bible Church, we’ve done everything that we possibly can to try to provide an environment where people can worship Christ and also where they can be safe,” said Holley, noting that approach requires a security team made up of volunteers.
“It requires putting together a safety and security team that will be vigilant, that will be communicating with each other, that will be keeping an eye on things as people come to worship,” he explained. “They have helped tremendously in the past with various situations that have arisen and many in the congregation never hear about or never know about.”

Churches Look to Tighten Security, Even Arm Congregants, after Texas Shooting
Emily McFarlan Miller November 7, 2017
In 2007, the unthinkable happened at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.
A gunman opened fire outside the church, just as its midday service had dismissed. His bullets hit several members of the same family as they left, wounding David Works and killing his two teenage daughters, Rachel and Stephanie.
More than 600 people were on the church campus when Matthew Murray — a 24-year-old man armed with an assault rifle, two pistols and enough ammunition to kill 100 people — made his way inside the building, church pastor Brady Boyd remembered.
“I know there’s a great theological debate about what Jesus would do,” he told RNS. “I just know firsthand for me, on the day the shooting happened on our campus, we lost two very good, sweet, young teenage girls, and that was awful and horrific, but we could have very well lost 100 people that day.”
Boyd believes that didn’t happen because Murray ran into Jeanne Assam, a former police officer and member of the church security team who was legally carrying a pistol. Assam returned fire, ending the attack that had started 12 hours earlier, when the gunman had shot and killed several others at a nearby mission center.

The "Wild West" was not nearly as wild as today's society. Seems to me it would be just simple common sense to have someone or several someones to have a legal concealed weapon in church. But then, simple common sense has been flushed down the toilet.
