ACLJ Sends Letter to Ambassador Haley on ISIS Genocide
By ACLJ.org
As the Islamic State (ISIS) continues its genocidal campaign to eradicate Christianity and other religious minorities throughout Iraq and Syria, the world’s principal international body, the United Nations, has remained silent.
Enough is enough.
The ACLJ has been advocating globally for three years to end the ISIS genocide against Christians and other religious minorities. These historical atrocities will only end with U.S. and global leaders recognizing what is happening AND acting to end it.
This moment for moral clarity and leadership could not be more important. Our campaign has led to the European Assembly, the U.S. State Department, and other entities recognizing the genocide.
But the United Nations must recognize the genocide, and then the international community must stop it.

ACLJ Urges New U.N. Secretary-General to Recognize and Confront ISIS Genocide Against Christians
By ACLJ.org
Yesterday – the day on which the United States and Israel observe Holocaust Remembrance Day – we sent a legal letter to the newly appointed Secretary-General of the United Nations to remind him that genocide is still a very real and ongoing issue and one the international community must stand against.
It is indisputable that ISIS (the Islamic State) is targeting Christians and other religious minorities in Syria and Iraq because of their faith – with an intent to exterminate them – and these horrific acts of violence are spreading around the world.
In our letter we urge the United Nations to "declare that the ongoing atrocities committed by the Islamic State and associated groups constitute genocide and that those victimised by the genocide include Christians.” We also urge the Secretary-General “to communicate with all appropriate offices of the United Nations accordingly and to mobilise the international community to take swift and decisive action.”
In Iraq, Syria, and increasingly around the world, ISIS jihadists target Christians. Our letter details some of the horrific acts that ISIS has committed. The Islamic State’s barbarity knows no bounds.

Defending Christians from Genocide at the U.N. Human Rights Council
By ACLJ.org
Today, through our affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), we made an oral intervention before the United Nations Human Rights Council on behalf of Christians facing genocide in the Middle East.
We gave our most detailed account yet of the atrocities carried out by ISIS against Christians and other religious and ethnic minorities. We stated:
Thank you Mr. President,
In February of 2017, the ECLJ submitted its second written and oral testimony to this Council requesting that the United Nations (U.N.) join other international bodies and publically proclaim that Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria are victims of genocide and deserving of international assistance and protection. Yet again, this body has remained silent while the Islamic State (“ISIS”) has continued its barbaric work.
The actions of ISIS against Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria clearly embody the definition of genocide as enshrined in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The ISIS campaign to destroy these religious minorities and decimate their homelands and cultures undoubtedly meets the definition of genocide, and as long as the UN does not recognize it as such, these vulnerable groups remain unprotected and in peril...

Austria Recognizes “Genocide” against Christians, Supports Key ACLJ Policy Proposals
By ACLJ.org
In a major step forward in our aggressive legal advocacy campaign for Christians facing genocide, Austria has formally recognized the genocide against Christians and is advancing at least three steps of our 7-point plan to stop the genocide against Christians and protect the victims.
On June 7, 2017, the Austrian National Council passed a resolution formally recognizing that the heinous atrocities being committed by ISIS in Iraq and Syria constitute “genocide” against Christians and other religious minorities.
The Resolution specifically adopts the unanimous resolution of the European Parliament that recognizes the genocide against Christians. In addition, it calls for... ...
Austria has become one of the first countries to take a decisive stand. Moreover, the resolution advances at least three steps of our 7-point plan to stop the genocide and protects Christians. It formally recognizes the genocide and specifically names Christians as a category of victims. It also forcefully calls for action from the U.N. Security Council and recommends prosecution by the International Criminal Court. In addition, it urges the establishment of in-region safe zones. Finally, it calls on all European nations to do the same.
