'A new day for US-Israel relations'
Nitzan Keidar, 16/02/17
The White House has summarized yesterday’s meeting between US President Donald Trump and PM Netanyahu.
In an official statement, the White House said that the two “agreed to strengthen special connection between Israel and the US.”
A senior White House official noted that, during the meeting between the two, Trump emphasized the US’ unwavering commitment to the security of Israel. He said that the two talked at length about the need to address Iranian threats, in addition to joint efforts against ISIS and other radical Islamic terror groups.
The official added that “the two leaders said that the Iran deal was a mistake for the US, Israel, and the whole world. The President promised the PM that he would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
“The two leaders committed to strengthening cooperation to bring peace and stability to the Middle East in order to protect the US, Israel, and other countries from the threat of global terror.”

Trump considering Arab peace summit in Washington – report
By Dov Lieber February 16, 2017
United States President Donald Trump is considering hosting an Arab leadership summit in Washington to discuss peace and stability in the region, the pan-Arab daily Al-Hayat reported on Thursday.
The Al-Hayat report, based on a “reliable source,” did not provide any details other than the claim that Washington was examining the idea of hosting such a summit.
During a press conference Wednesday at the White House between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump, the two leaders voiced support for a regional approach to solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Netanyahu, who did not explicitly renounce his own commitment to a two-state solution but avoid mentioning the idea of Palestinian statehood, called for a “regional” approach that included Arab states. He noted that he would be discussing such an initiative with Trump.
In response, Trump said the two have been discussing a regional deal, and noted it “would take in many, many countries.”

Trump & Netanyahu agree: Israel-Gulf peace first
DEBKAfile Special Report February 15, 2017
“One state, two states, I like this state,” Donald Trump joked, turning to visiting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu when they addressed a wide-ranging, friendly news conference Wednesday, Feb.15, at the White House, ahead of their face-to-face talks.
Trump reacted positively to Netanyahu’s proposal to broaden the Israeli-Palestinian peace process to a regional effort as a “very important” new idea “on a broader canvas” which he believed could succeed. Netanyahu said that the regional fears of Iran also presented an opportunity for cooperation against the Islamic State and radical Islamic terror.
Debkafile reports that these sentiments reflected agreement in principle between Trump and Netanyahu to seek an Israeli peace accord with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf emirates as the lead-in to negotiations for an accord with the Palestinians. Egypt, Jordan and Turkey with whom Israel already has normal relations would jump in later. This deal fits in with the US plan reported more than once on these pages for a regional peace between the Sunni Arab nations and the Jewish State.
Some of the spadework may have been performed by CIA Director Mike Pompeo who paid a secret visit to Ramallah Wednesday morning for talks with Mahmoud Abbas, after trips to Ankara and Riyadh, following which Turkey upgraded its diplomatic mission in Israel.
This plan was the fulcrum for the president to push back against the two-state solution advocated by the Obama administration as the cure for the conflict. It remains to be seen if this plan takes on life outside the White House and in the region’s capitals.

Trump's Mideast Peace Plan Takes Shape - And It's Not Good
By Stephen M. Flatow/JNS.org November 15, 2017
Senior Trump administration officials reportedly are crafting a plan for Middle East peace. Based on the details that are available so far, friends of Israel have good reason for concern.
According to a front-page New York Times report on Nov. 12, the administration is preparing what it considers to be an "ultimate deal" between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. There appear to be two phases to the plan.
Phase one will consist of "confidence-building provisions" by each side. The problem is that Israel will be expected to make new concessions, while the Palestinians will be asked to do things that they already committed to do in the Oslo Accords 24 years ago.
In other words, Israel will be forced to pay yet again for the same rug that it bought more than two decades ago.
According to the Times, the "confidence-building" measures Israel will be pressed to take will include halting Jewish construction in most of Judea and Samaria, publicly committing to creation of a Palestinian state, and handing over additional parts of the territories to the Palestinian Authority (PA). All three of those actions go way beyond what the Oslo Accords obligate Israel to do.
And what "confidence-building" gestures will the PA be asked to undertake? "Resuming full security cooperation with Israel"--which the Oslo Accords already required it to do; "holding off seeking further international recognition"--which the Oslo Accords also required it to do; and "ending payments" to families of Palestinian terrorists--which is likewise an Oslo obligation, since the accords prohibit the PA from doing anything to encourage or incite terrorism. Giving out financial rewards for terrorism obviously encourages terrorism.
That's just phase one of Trump's "ultimate plan." Phase two is even worse. The Trump plan, according to the Times, will "be built around the so-called two state solution that has been the core of peacemaking efforts for years."
