Trump's UN nominee to blast world body over Israel
Reuters 18.01.17
US President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be US ambassador to the United Nations will blast the world body over its treatment of Israel at her Senate confirmation hearing, according to prepared testimony seen by Reuters on Tuesday.
"Nowhere has the UN’s failure been more consistent and more outrageous than in its bias against our close ally Israel," Republican South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said in the opening remarks for her appearance on Wednesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
"Any honest assessment also finds an institution that is often at odds with American national interests and American taxpayers," the speech says.
In the remarks, Haley offered some praise for UN activities, such as health and food programs that have saved millions of lives, weapons monitoring and some peacekeeping missions, in something of a departure from Trump, who has disparaged the United Nations.

Trump UN envoy: Why is the UN so obsessed with Israel?
Gary Willig, 20/02/17
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley blasted the UN for its obsession with Israel during an address to the Security Council.
“I just put out to the members of the Security Council to help me understand: When we have so much going on in the world, why is it that every single month we’re going to sit down and have a hearing where all they do is obsess over Israel?” Haley asked in a statement which has circulated around the web.
She criticized the Security Council for focusing on Israel during its monthly meeting on the Middle East, to the complete exclusion of other issues, such as Hezbollah, ISIS, and the Syrian civil war. She also criticized the UN Department of Political Affairs for having "an entire division devoted to Palestinian affairs."
"There is no division devoted to illegal missile launches from North Korea. There is no division devoted to the world’s number one state-sponsor of terror, Iran," she observed.
"The double standards are breathtaking...more www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/225347

'Haley's comet' burns U.N. for anti-Israel actions
Chad Groening, Jody Brown (OneNewsNow.com) February 24, 2017
A couple of Christian, pro-Israel radio hosts are impressed with Nikki Haley's recent scolding of the United Nations over its anti-Israel bias.
The newly confirmed U.S. ambassador to the United Nations took to a podium recently following the U.N. Security Council's monthly meeting on Middle East issues. It was the first such meeting Haley has attended – and after describing the meeting as "a bit strange," she explained why... ...
Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries and host of the syndicated radio program "Understanding the Times," describes the ambassador's statements as "a breath of fresh air."
"... I think conservatives and pro-Israel supporters find it hard to believe that there's been such an about-face in U.S. leadership that they would call a spade a spade, as Nikki Haley has done here. To take on the United Nations is really quite stunning and astounding."
According to Markell, the pro-Israel community is rejoicing and hopeful that Haley's speech is yet another sign that it's a new day in U.S.-Israel relations after eight years under the Obama administration.

Trump Administration Boycotts UN Human Rights Council’s Anti-Israel Session
Joseph Klein March 23, 2017
The Trump administration decided to boycott the United Nations Human Rights Council’s special session bashing Israel this week. The Council is devoting time, during its regular annual month-long meeting in March, to take up ‘Agenda Item 7’ dealing with the "human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories." Israel is the only country in the world that is targeted under such a special agenda item during the Council’s regular sessions, held three times a year. The Human Rights Council uses this vehicle to concentrate its venom on Israel, with the objective of delegitimizing the Jewish state. Later this year, the Council plans to follow up on its request for production of a database of businesses involved with West Bank settlements, for the purpose of creating a blacklist of firms that countries and the UN itself will be pressured to boycott.
The misnamed Human Rights Council counts among its members such human rights abusing Islamic countries as Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Under pressure from the Palestinians and the Islamic states supporting them, it is the Jewish state of Israel that captures the Council’s obsessive attention. In fact, the Human Rights Council has adopted more resolutions condemning Israel than all of the other 192 member states of the United Nations combined. At last year’s month-long meeting, held around this same time, the Human Rights Council sought fit to issue five resolutions against Israel, while Syria, North Korea and Iran were the subject of only one resolution each. Saudi Arabia got off scot-free. That is real March madness.
Ambassador Nikki Haley, whom has doggedly gone after anti-Israel bias at the UN since beginning her service as the U.S. Permanent Representative, said:
“While we are making some progress on reversing the anti-Israel bias at the UN in New York, regrettably, today in Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council begins debate on the only country permanently on the body’s calendar. It is not Syria, where the regime has systematically slaughtered and tortured its own people. It is not Iran, where public hangings are a regular occurrence. It is not North Korea, where the regime uses forced labor camps to crush its people into submission. It is Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East.”
Ambassador Haley said that the United States would not participate in discussions under Agenda Item 7, “other than to vote against the outrageous, one-sided, anti-Israel resolutions that so diminish what the Human Rights Council should be.”

Haley: End the discrimination against Israel at UNHCR
Gary Willig, 06/06/17
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley blasted the UN Human Rights Council for its obsession with criticizing Israel during a speech to the council Tuesday.
“It is essential that this council address its chronic anti-Israel bias if it is to have any credibility,” Haley said.
She noted that the UNHRC "adopted five biased resolutions in March against a single country, Israel."
Haley contrasted the UNHRC's obsession with Israel with its inability to consider resolutions on more serious human rights crisis, such as the deteriorating situation in Venezuela. "It's hard to accept that this council has never considered a resolution on Venezuela."
She said that countries which violate human rights do not belong on the human rights council. "If Venezuela cannot [address its human rights violations without intervention], it should voluntarily step down from its seat on the Human Rights Council until it can get its own house in order."

Israel slams ‘sham’ UN Human Rights Council after 5 new anti-Israel resolutions
By TOI staff and AFP
Israel on Saturday slammed the UN Human Rights Council as a “sham” after it passed five new anti-Israel resolutions, saying the body was being used by “bloodthirsty dictatorships” to mask their own abuses.
The council “is a sham, a mockery of the noble purposes it pretends to represent,” tweeted Foreign Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Nachshon.
“It is an exclusively anti #Israel platform, manipulated by bloodthirsty dictatorships hiding their own massive human rights violations by attacking Israel,” he wrote.
...
US Ambassador Nikki Haley said in a statement that the council was “grossly biased against Israel,” noting that it had adopted only three resolutions separately targeting North Korea, Iran, and Syria.
“When the Human Rights Council treats Israel worse than North Korea, Iran, and Syria, it is the council itself that is foolish and unworthy of its name,” said Haley.
“Our patience is not unlimited. Today’s actions make clear that the organization lacks the credibility needed to be a true advocate for human rights,” she said.

US blocks Arab-led UN call for independent probe of Gaza protests
By TOI staff and Agencies 6 April 2018
The United States for a second week in a row blocked a UN Security Council statement supporting the right of Palestinians to “demonstrate peacefully” and endorsing Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ call for an independent investigation into deadly protests in Gaza.
Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour told reporters at UN headquarters in New York on Friday evening that 14 of the 15 council nations agreed to the statement, but the United States, Israel’s closest ally, objected.
Mansour called the US rejection “very irresponsible,” saying it gave Israel “the green light to continue with their onslaught against the civilian population” in Gaza.
In response, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said the council “should condemn Hamas, which uses children as human shields while risking their lives, and must call for the end of these provocations which only increase the violence and tensions.”
Tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered along the Gaza border on Friday, burning tires and throwing firebombs and rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas and live fire, the army and witnesses said, as Palestinians held a second “March of Return” protest.

Haley: Arab nations talk big about Palestinians, but don't pay up
By Tovah Lazaroff July 24, 2018
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley took the international community to task for failing to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to support for the Palestinians.
UN member states, in particular the Arab countries, are quick to speak volumes about the Palestinians, but are suddenly absent when it comes to writing a check, Haley told the UN Security Council on Tuesday as it held its monthly meeting on the Middle East in New York.
“Talk is cheap,” Haley said.
“No group of countries is more generous with their words than the Palestinians’ Arab neighbors, and other OIC member states.
“But all of the words spoken here in New York do not feed, clothe, or educate a single Palestinian child. All they do is get the international community riled up,” she said.
The United States, she said, which is often criticized for its strong support for its ally Israel, has given the Palestinians “a quarter of a billion dollars every year since 1993,” Haley said.

Haley ‘more Israeli than the Israelis,’ says Palestinian UN ambassador
July 25, 2018
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
The Palestinian Authority’s ambassador to the UN said on Wednesday that the Trump administration was pro-Israel and that US Ambassador Nikki Haley “is becoming more Israeli than the Israelis themselves.”
Mansour cited Haley’s accusations against Arab and Islamic countries, saying this was “for the sake of promoting an unconditional defense of Israel” but “not in the interest of the United States, much more in the interest of Israel.”
He was referring to Haley’s speech to the UN Security Council Tuesday in which she accused Arab and Islamic nations of being generous with their words in support of the Palestinians but not with their wallets.
He also mentioned a failed US and Israeli effort Tuesday to amend a resolution on “the social and economic consequences of the Israeli occupation” to call for Hamas, which rules Gaza, to release two Israeli civilians and the bodies of two Israeli soldiers.
