Republican senators launch bill to move US embassy to Jerusalem
By Nick Thompson, CNN January 4, 2017
(CNN)Senate Republicans introduced a bill Tuesday to recognize Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and move the United States embassy to Jerusalem.
The controversial plan, which President-elect Donald Trump repeatedly voiced support for on the campaign trail, is almost certain to further inflame tensions between Palestinians and Israelis.
The bill was introduced on the first day of the new US Congress by Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, along with Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas -- two senators who lost out to Trump in the primary race for the Republican nomination last year.
"Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish state of Israel, and that's where America's embassy belongs," Rubio said in a joint statement announcing the bill.
"It's time for Congress and the President-elect to eliminate the loophole that has allowed presidents in both parties to ignore US law and delay our embassy's rightful relocation to Jerusalem for over two decades."

TV report: Trump’s ambassador could work from Jerusalem, with embassy still in Tel Aviv
By Times of Israel staff January 10, 2017
A possible compromise over moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem could see Donald Trump’s ambassador working from an existing US consulate in the capital while the embassy itself remains in Tel Aviv, Israeli television reported on Tuesday.
Quoting unnamed Israeli Foreign Ministry officials, Channel 2 news said intended ambassador David Friedman, who has said he looks forward to working from the US embassy in Jerusalem, might instead merely work from the city with a small staff, while the Tel Aviv embassy remains intact and most of its operations and staff stay there.
The report noted that building contractors in neighborhoods near the existing consulate in Talpiot have received calls recently from would-be buyers seeking luxury homes for Americans.
In marked contrast to the talk of a compromise idea, however, CNN reported that Trump was pushing ahead with plans for the embassy move and telling allies that it will go ahead.

Abbas asks Putin to stop Trump from moving the embassy
Elad Benari 13/01/17
Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to intervene in order to stop the United States from moving its embassy to Jerusalem.
Top PA official Saeb Erekat told AFP on Friday he had passed on the message from Abbas to Putin during a visit to Moscow during which he met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The letter asks President Putin to do what he can about the information we have that President-elect Donald Trump will move the embassy to Jerusalem, which for us is a red line and dangerous," Erekat said, according to the news agency.
PA officials have in recent days continuously warned against moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a campaign pledge of President-elect Donald Trump.
Abbas last week wrote Trump a letter in which he warned the President-elect against moving the American embassy, saying that such a move would be crossing a "red line" and could jeopardize peace prospects.

‘Move Embassy to Jerusalem Immediately’, 100 GOP Lawmakers Urge Trump
By Abra Forman January 12, 2017
“And give Him no rest, till He establish, and till He make Yerushalayim a praise in the earth.” Isaiah 62:7
Over 100 Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives have signed a letter urging President-elect Donald Trump to make good on his promise to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem immediately after entering office.
“Moving the embassy will strengthen the unique alliance between Israel and the United States and send a clear message to the world that we support Israel in recognizing Jerusalem as its eternal capital,” reads the letter.
It calls for “swift action” from Trump, advising him to move the embassy “as soon as you take office.”
The letter, initiated by Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-R), has accrued over 100 signatures in the House GOP caucus. In addition to calling for the moving of the embassy from its current location in Tel Aviv, an action Trump officials have called a “top priority” for the administration, the letter also slams the recent United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

US lawmakers make fact-finding trip for Jerusalem embassy move
By Raphael Ahren March 5, 2017
A group of American lawmakers visited Israel Sunday to examine a possible transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, taking a tentative first step toward the measure despite indications from the Trump administration that the controversial move may no longer be a priority.
The delegation, made up of members of the Subcommittee for National Security of the House Oversight Committee, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israel officials on Sunday morning.
Led by Representative Ron DeSantis of Florida, the group was set to visit possible sites for the American Embassy during its one-day trip.
There are a number of options for a US Embassy location in Jerusalem, including two consular buildings and a parcel of land on Hebron Road purchased in 1989 for the purpose of housing the embassy.
The panel is expected to brief Congress and the administration of its findings.

US Embassy in Jerusalem to open in May — in time for Israel’s 70th anniversary
By Eric Cortellessa, AP and TOI staff 23 February 2018
The new US Embassy in Jerusalem will open in May 2018 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel declaring independence, two Trump administration officials said Friday. At first, the embassy will operate out of the US’s current consular premises in Arnona, south Jerusalem.
The officials said Congress was being notified of the impending move on Friday. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson signed off on the security plan for the new embassy on Thursday.
The State Department confirmed the timing of the move, with an official telling The Times of Israel: “We are planning to open the new US Embassy to Israel in Jerusalem in May. The Embassy opening will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary.”
The official said, “The Embassy will initially be located in Arnona [in south Jerusalem], on a compound that currently houses the consular operations of Consulate General Jerusalem. At least initially, it will consist of the Ambassador and a small team.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned for mid-May. Israel proclaimed independence on May 14, 1948. According to Channel 10 and Hadashot news, the ceremony could be held on May 14 to honor that date. (Israel celebrates its anniversary of independence according to the Hebrew calendar; Independence Day — Yom Ha’Atzmaut — falls on April 19 this year.)

'This is a historic moment'
David Rosenberg, 28/03/18
Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) signed a special waiver Wednesday, permitting the US State Department to upgrade a facility designated to serve as America’s interim embassy in Israel.
The move comes after US and Israeli diplomats expressed concern that plans by the US to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to the Israeli capital in time for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel on May 14th were jeopardized by bureaucratic red-tape.
Kahlon issued the waiver permitting the US to upgrade its consular facility in the Arnona neighborhood of Jerusalem to an embassy, hailing the move as a “historic movement”.
“I’m happy and proud to use my authority as Finance Minister of the State of Israel to sign this order permitting President Trump to fulfill his promise to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” said Kahlon.
“This is a historic moment we have waited for many years. This order is now signed after a great deal of work carried out in a short period of time.”

Guatemala to move its embassy to Jerusalem on May 16
By Stuart Winer
Guatemala will relocate its embassy to Jerusalem on May 16, two days after the US is scheduled to move its mission to the capital, the Jerusalem municipality said Wednesday.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat met with Guatemalan Ambassador Sara Angelina Solis Castaneda and the director-general of the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry, Maria Luisa Ramirez, to discuss details of the move.
“I congratulate Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and the Guatemalan government on the brave decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem and call on other countries to follow the United States and Guatemala to move their embassies to Jerusalem,” Barkat said, according to a statement from the municipality.
Last month, Morales announced that, like the US, his country would be moving its embassy to Jerusalem in May.

Romania to Move Embassy to Jerusalem: Netanyahu Promises Six More to Follow
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 20, 2018
“Yerushalayim built up, a city knit together,4 to which tribes would make pilgrimage, the tribes of Hashem, —as was enjoined upon Yisrael— to praise the name of Hashem.” Psalms 122:3
After meeting last week with Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely last week, a Romanian politician has announced their nation will be moving their embassy to Jerusalem. This will make Romania the fourth nation to do so and the first European Union country to break ranks and recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, a Social Democrat, proposed the move to his government last Wednesday, April 11, and the process moved forward quickly. In an interview with the Romanian TV channel ANTENA 3 on Thursday, Israeli Independence Day, Liviu Dragnea, the president of the Chamber of Deputies and a member of Romania’s ruling party, told viewers that the decision was made Wednesday night to move the embassy.
The announcement comes after Hotovely met with Romania’s prime minister and foreign minister and heads of both houses of the parliament in Bucharest ten days ago. Hotovely described this meeting as the first leg of a campaign to persuade countries to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

'Israel will not pay a price for embassy relocation'
Elad Benari, Canada, 11/05/18
U.S. Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, held a briefing to journalists on Friday with Victoria Coates, a member of the National Security Council, in preparation for the relocation of the American embassy to Jerusalem, which is scheduled for Monday.
Coates stated that President Donald Trump moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem serves U.S. interests and is not part of a “give-and-take” with Israel.
"This is something that serves the United States. There is no give and take with Israel with regards to this decision," she said.

Perfect Timing: America is About to Make King David Very Proud!
By Staff Writer May 13, 2018
“Silver is Mine and gold is Mine—says God of Hosts.” Haggai 2:8
Nearly 3000 years ago, in a landmark achievement, King David established Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Throughout history, ever since the Holy Temple stood in all its glory, through thousands of years of exile and until today, Jerusalem has remained the eternal capital of the Jewish People.
Once again, Jerusalem history is in the making. And to many, this is another example of the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.
For the first time in over 2000 years, a world power will recognize Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel – and in a most dramatic way. This is historic!
When candidate Donald Trump made a campaign promise to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, many were skeptical. They wondered: Was this just another candidate’s attempt to gain the pro-Israel vote?
On June 1, 2017, several months after President Trump’s victory, he signed the waiver to avoid moving the embassy, as had been done for decades by former presidents.
“What about his campaign promise,” many asked. “Was it all just rhetoric?”
Six months later, on December 6, 2017, Trump said that the US will formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing nearly seven decades of US policy. He then ordered the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
The move was expected to take years, but then came the shocker: On February 23, 2018, Trump announced that the US will move its embassy to Jerusalem in less than three months, on May 14, 2018. The date coincides with the 70th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel. The timing was perfect – couldn’t be better!

History in the Holy Land
Jody Brown (OneNewsNow.com)
May 14, 2018
Evangelical leaders in the U.S. are applauding the history-making events occurring today in Jerusalem as the American Embassy officially opens there, as Israel's prime minister said Jerusalem will always be the "eternal, undivided" capital of Israel.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the new American Embassy in Jerusalem, Benjamin Netanyahu called it a "glorious" day. Netanyahu thanked President Donald Trump for showing the "courage" to keep a key campaign promise and says relations with the U.S. have never been stronger. (Click on image above for larger version)
Trump called the move "simply a recognition of reality" that Israel – like every other sovereign nation – has the right to choose its own capital. "Yet for 70 years we neglected to extend this basic courtesy to Israel that we extend to other countries," the president has stated. "Today, we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel's capital."
Netanyahu says Mideast peace must be founded on what he says is the "truth" recognized by the U.S. "The truth is that Jerusalem has been and always will be the capital of the Jewish people, the capital of the Jewish state," he said.
...
Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, points out that in Israel, President Trump is being compared to King Cyrus:
"They see that he's a man who tries to keep his word. And then part two of that is that he is trying to get rid of this Iranian nuclear agreement, which I think is probably going to fizzle and fade out here. Certainly America's participation [in the Iran deal] is history."
King Cyrus is an important figure in Jewish history. It was under his rule that Jews were first allowed to return to Israel – after 70 years of captivity.

Time to Start Crediting the Christians
By Tuly Weisz May 14, 2018
If all goes as planned, on Monday, the United States will relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This historic move is packed with both political and spiritual significance.
What motivated US President Donald Trump to go against decades of American policy at a time when the peace process is frozen, amid warnings of Arab outrage and a looming nuclear threat from Iran? When neither mainstream American Jews or Israeli leaders were pushing for this? The answer is evangelical Christians, which represents a major shift in American-Israeli policy.
Forever, American-Israeli policy has been commanded by American Jews, mainly by the those involved in the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the World Zionist Organization and Zionist Organization of America. Of course, under President Barack Obama, J Street Jews served a more prominent role, as well.
However, on Monday, when Israelis and Jews around the world rejoice at this formal declaration by America of Jerusalem as Israel’s historic and eternal capital, Jews will not be able to take credit. The credit for the embassy’s move goes to Christian Zionists.
Forever – and for good reason – Jews have shied away from deepening ties with their Christian brethren. However, when we wake up on Tuesday morning, there will be a new reality on the ground.
As such, the Israeli establishment and the Jewish community in the Diaspora must begin to make serious efforts to better understand this new power broker at the pro-Israel table and start building relationships with our Christian friends. The rapid move by Trump of the embassy should be enough to make this a top priority.

Franklin Graham Talks Jesus Christ's Return, Fulfillment of Prophecy as Jerusalem Embassy Opens
By Stoyan Zaimov, Christian Post Reporter | May 15, 2018
The Rev. Franklin Graham has made note of prophecy surrounding the return of Jesus Christ as Christians and Jews mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel and the U.S. embassy's official opening in Jerusalem.
"[Seventy] years ago today, the State of Israel was established. In fulfillment of prophecy, God brought the nation into being, and He is sustaining them for the day when the Lord Jesus Christ Himself will return and establish His throne in Jerusalem as Scripture tells us," Graham wrote on Facebook Monday.
"I believe it is significant that the United States has formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and is moving our embassy there," he added, referring to the U.S. government's major decision that was announced last year, with the ceremony taking place on Monday.
"This has been promised by past U.S. presidents and administrations, but it had never become a reality, until now," wrote the evangelist, who is president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

ALL EYES ON THE EPICENTER: Israel turns 70. US Embassy moves to Jerusalem. 50,000 Palestinians trying to storm Israel’s southern border. Al Qaeda calls for new jihad. Yet tourism at record highs. Please pray. Here’s the latest.
By joelcrosenberg May 14, 2018
UPDATED: (Jerusalem, Israel) — Shalom from Jerusalem. Please keep both Israelis and Palestinians in your prayers today and all month. If there was ever a time to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, this would be it for we are in a unique moment in history.
The mood here among Israeli Jews is celebratory — festive, jubilant — as Washington formally moves her Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem today in official recognition that Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel. The move was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the modern rebirth of Israel. There are American flags everywhere. Israelis are so grateful for the friendship and alliance of the U.S. and are expressing this openly.
-Watch a replay of the Embassy dedication ceremony here. -Read text of President Trump’s video address to those attending the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem
Most Palestinians, however — and particularly Palestinian Authority leaders — are furious with the move. President Mahmoud Abbas and P.A. officials have chosen to boycott all meetings with U.S. representatives for the foreseeable future. [UPDATE: Abbas blasts U.S. Embassy Move: An insult to the world and to the Palestinians.]
The latest rhetoric against Israel by Palestinian leaders and Iranian leaders is as dark as ever. Terrorist attacks against Israel are increasing. What’s more, some radical Islamist leaders are threatening all-out war against the Jewish State.
That said, it does not feel dangerous in Jerusalem or most population centers in Israel. Tens of thousands of police and security officials are on the streets of Jerusalem and deployed around the country. Most of the attacks are occurring on the southern border with Gaza, the northern border with Syria, and against Israeli settlers in Judea and Samaria (commonly known as the West Bank).

Pence: Trump ‘Greatest Defender of Israel Ever’ in White House
Breaking Israel News 15 May 2018
“Do not withhold good from one who deserves it When you have the power to do it [for him].” Proverbs 3:27
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Monday that President Donald Trump is the “greatest defender of the Jewish state to ever to sit in the Oval Office” at a celebration of the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem in Washington, D.C.
“Just as President Truman made history then Trump has made history now—thanks to his leadership, almost exactly 70 years to the minute since the rebirth of the Jewish state, the American Embassy officially opened in Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel,” Pence declared at the event that also celebrated Israel’s 70 anniversary, which fell on May 14 on the secular calendar.
Pence added: “By finally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the United States has chosen fact over fiction—and fact is the only true foundation for a just and lasting peace.”

Guatemala opens Jerusalem embassy, two days after US
By Raphael Ahren
Guatemala opened its embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, two days after the US moved its mission to the capital.
The Central American country’s president, Jimmy Morales, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut a blue-and-white ribbon, and later placed pieces of the ribbon in the pockets of their suit jackets.
“This is the beginning of something extraordinary, or I would say, the re-beginning of something extraordinary, which is the relationship between Guatemala and Israel,” Netanyahu said.
“Yesterday we opened the American embassy in Jerusalem, two days ago, and it’s not a coincidence that Guatemala is opening its embassy in Jerusalem right among the first. You are always among the first, always among the first,” Netanyahu went on, recalling that Guatemala was the second nation, after the US, that recognized the State of Israel in May 1948.
Netanyahu mentioned that there is a Guatemala Street, named in honor of the country’s former ambassador to the UN Jorge Garcia Granados.

Trump: Media N. Korea Coverage 'Almost Treasonous;' Evangelicals More Thankful Than Jews for Jerusalem Embassy
By Anugrah Kumar, Christian Post Contributor | Jun 24, 2018
President Trump told former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in an interview that mainstream media's coverage of his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was "almost treasonous." He also revealed that evangelicals are more thankful than Jews for moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
On his show on Trinity Broadcasting Network that aired Saturday, Huckabee asked Trump if he trusts Kim Jong Un, and the president said he certainly does.
Trump said he's had a "very good relationship" with the North Korean leader and "we have a good chemistry together."
...
Huckabee then praised Trump for fulfilling his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, noting that Trump's predecessors also promised that but failed to act on it.
"You know who really likes it the most are the evangelicals," Trump said. "I get more calls of thank you from evangelicals than … I do from Jewish people… Jewish people appreciate it but evangelicals appreciate it more than Jews, which is incredible."
