I got this book for Elijah after researching the author and reading the first chapter of the book. Their Pastor was at Elijah's birthday party and saw the book. He was very excited and said it was one of the best he'd seen. Plus, when I saw that Josh McDowell recommended the book, I had no fears about it at all, because he's someone I feel I can trust. Great book for kids to help them understand and internalize the truths of their faith. It also prepares them so they can answer questions their friends have and enables them to find the answers if they don't already know something. When a child loves the Lord and is living their faith, school mates will notice and will ask questions as well as make fun of them. Kids need to be prepared for that and know how Jesus wants us to respond. This book can help.
Cold Case Christianity for Kids. By J Warner Wallace
Between the ages of 8 and 12, kids often start to wonder if Christianity is true. In Cold-Case Christianity for Kids, detective J. Warner Wallace draws readers into the thrill of high-stakes investigation by showing them how to think rather than telling them what to think. In this children's companion to the bestselling Cold-Case Christianity, detective Wallace gets kids excited about testing witnesses, examining the evidence, and investigating the case for Christianity. Includes author illustrations and links to a website (coldcasechristianityforkids.com) where kids can download activities, fill in case notes, and earn a certificate of merit.

Reviews
"J.Warner and Susie Wallace have succeeded in writing a book that is the perfect trifecta - drawing kids into the story of Jesus, encouraging them to investigate and learn about Jesus' story, and giving them the tools they need to stand by their Christian faith. This book offers our youth a solid foundation for their faith, which is a priceless commodity and raises up a generation of Christian leaders for our communities." - Jordy and Emily Nelson, Parents and Wide Receiver for the Green Bay Packers
"Cold Case Christianity for Kids is a great family read-aloud, but don't be surprised if your kids want to read ahead. Cold Case Christianity for Kids will inspire them to seek truth, to love Jesus, to have a new fascination with the Bible, and to become the kinds of truth detectives who can make a difference in our world."- Jeff Myers, Ph.D., President, Summit Ministries
"Here's a creative, clear, and compelling primer that will sharpen the reasoning skills of kids. They'll love the detective approach to the evidence for faith!" - Lee Strobel, best-selling author of The Case for Christ
"When I read Cold-Case Christianity, I wished it had been available when I first examined the Christian faith. Cold-Case Christianity for Kids combines the wisdom and excitement of detective investigations with the case for Christianity, and it's written by parents who have been training students for years. If you want your children to be ready to defend the truth about Jesus, this book is essential." - Josh McDowell, apologist and author of Don't Check Your Brains at the Door
From the Author
Cold-Case Christianity for Kids includes many illustrations I've drawn for kids, and is supported by an interactive website that allows kids to download chapter activities and "case note" fill-in sheets. When these are successfully completed and assembled in an"Academy Notebook," readers will be qualified to earn a Cold-Case Academy "Certificate of Merit." Plus, Cold-Case Christianity for Kids follows the same chapter sequence as my adult book, Cold-Case Christianity, so parents and children can discuss and explore the evidence together, chapter by chapter.
I highly recommend this book for your children or grandchildren!

Sure, if you want, I'll post the ones I already got for Elijah and others I know I want to get for him or Grace, and when I others, I'll post those too. So we can have a thread of "favorite books for children"... how's that sound?

I also got these books for Elijah after checking them out:
The Book of the King (The Wormling #1) by Jerry B. Jenkins, and Chris Fabry
“Nothing special” is the best way to describe Owen Reeder―at least that's what he's been told all his life. When a stranger visits his father's bookstore, Owen's ordinary life spirals out of control and right into a world he didn't even know existed. Owen believes the only gift he possesses is his ability to devour books, but he is about to be forced into a battle that will affect two worlds: his and the unknown world of the Lowlands. Perfect for readers ages 10 to 14 who enjoy a fast-paced story packed with action, fantasy, and humor.
I had a sample sent to my kindle to read and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to read the whole book. Then I remembered that I'd gotten it free from Vryso and it was in my bible library, so I immediately read it and really enjoyed it and that let me know that Elijah would like it too. It's a great way to let kids enjoy fantasy without magic and witches and warlocks. Instead they get a great read with some mythical creatures and a special book (the Book of the King) that's obviously symbolic of the bible. The more the main character reads this book, the stronger he gets. I'm so glad that there are books for kids like this series! Here's the rest of the books in the series:
The Sword of the Wormling Book 2 The Changeling (The Wormling) Book 3 The Minions of Time (The Wormling) Book 4 The Author's Blood (The Wormling) Book 5
I also bought the beginning books of this series for him as they too looked very good:
Haunted Waters (Red Rock Mysteries, No. 1) by Jerry B. Jenkins, and Chris Fabry
Watch out! The Timberline twins are on the loose. Bryce and Ashley are ATV-riding tweens from Colorado who unearth action-packed mystery and adventure wherever they go. From clearing the name of a local miscreant to thwarting a gold-stealing heist, the twins' growing faith and the strong example of their parents guide them through even the most life-threatening situations. With the trademark page-turner style used by Jerry Jenkins and Chris Fabry in the Left Behind: The Kids series, these fast-paced books will keep even reluctant readers on the edge of their seats. Readers will definitely get hooked by the unbelievable cliff-hanger at the end of book one, Haunted Waters. Perfect for ages 8-12.
From the Back Cover
A crazy, wild drive from a deserted mining town takes Bryce and Ashley Timberline plunging into icy waters. It's clear someone's out to get them. . . . Will they survive long enough to find out who it is?
Bryce and Ashley Timberline are normal 13-year-old twins, except for one thing-they discover action-packed mystery wherever they go. Wanting to get to the bottom of any mystery, these twins find themselves searching for truth without stopping.
Here are the rest of the books in this series:
Stolen Secrets (Red Rock Mysteries, No. 2) Missing Pieces (Red Rock Mysteries, Book 3) Wild Rescue (Red Rock Mysteries, No. 4) Grave Shadows (Red Rock Mysteries, No. 5) Phantom Writer (Red Rock Mysteries #6) Double Fault (Red Rock Mysteries #7) Canyon Echoes (Red Rock Mysteries #8) Instant Menace (Red Rock Mysteries #9) Escaping Darkness (Red Rock Mysteries #10) Windy City Danger (Red Rock Mysteries #11) Hollywood Holdup (Red Rock Mysteries #12)
Then there are a bunch more that don't have to be read in any certain order, starting with:
Hidden Riches (Red Rock Mysteries)
This is another book I want to get for Elijah but haven't done so yet as I couldn't afford to get them all at once:
The Elijah Project by Bill Myers,
Zach and Piper always knew their little brother, Elijah, had supernatural gifts. But now others are starting to notice―and not all of them are human. On the Run After six-year-old Elijah performs a miracle―on national television―he and his two older siblings begin a race across the country to find their missing parents and escape the mysterious Shadow Man. The Enemy Closes In Zach becomes enchanted by a beautiful runaway who dabbles in the supernatural. When he becomes drawn into her world of darkness, he puts both himself and his family in danger. Trapped by Shadows When Elijah is taken by Shadow Man, Zach and Piper risk everything to get him back. But the evil forces they are up against are more powerful than they ever imagined. The Chamber of Lies Zach, Piper, and Elijah must make the ultimate decision when Shadow Man offers them greatness and power if they will join him and his forces of darkness.
Age Range: 9 - 12 years Grade Level: 4 - 7
On the Run (The Elijah Project) Book 1 The Enemy Closes In (The Elijah Project) Book 2 Trapped by Shadows (The Elijah Project) Book 3 The Chamber of Lies (The Elijah Project) Book 4
These next books are Non Fiction and are great for kids!
The Awesome Book of Bible Answers for Kids by Josh McDowell, Kevin Johnson
Kids are curious about Jesus and God and yet, by the time they are teens, the majority stop asking questions about faith and starting questioning faith altogether. Respected Christian apologist Josh McDowell encourages children to stand on the foundation of truth with this contemporary gathering of concise, welcoming answers for kids ages 8 to 12.
A fun format includes key Bible verses and pre-teen friendly explorations of topics that matter most to kids:
God’s love and forgiveness Right and wrong and making choices Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God’s Word Different beliefs and religions Church, prayer, and sharing faith
The next time a child asks “Who is God?” parents, grandparents, and church leaders will want this practical and engaging volume handy. Helpful tips and conversation ideas for adults will help them connect with kids hungering for straight talk about faith in Jesus.
Don't Check Your Brains at the Door by Josh McDowell, Bob Hostetler
“Seven in 10 Protestants ages 18 to 30—both evangelical and mainline—who went to church regularly in high school said they quit attending by age 23, according to the survey by LifeWay Research.” (USA Today)
Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door gives teens answers that make sense, even for the toughest of questions. Internationally known defender of the faith Josh McDowell and co-author Bob Hostetler offer clarity laced with humor to expose common myths about God, the Bible, religion, and life to show how Christianity stands up to the test of fact and reason. Teens will be better equipped to stick with their faith as they begin to understand why they believe and why it’s important to make a lifetime commitment to Christ and the church.
I feel that I can count on all the authors of the above books to write good biblical fiction and/or non fiction for adults or kids.

I found a great devotional for families with children. I got it for my daughter Jennifer and her family. Elijah and Grace are 11 and 8 years old and this is perfect for both of them. I've read reviews that say it's good for teens as well. (I'll include that review here for you)
The One Year Book of Josh McDowell's Family Devotions: A Daily Devotional for Passing Biblical Values to the Next Generation
The One Year Book of Josh McDowell's Family Devotions is a Right From Wrong devotional that reinforces the need for applying the Scriptures to everyday decisions. Each of the 365 readings includes a story situation that deals with a contemporary issue and helps families think through how to make the right choices in a particular situation. At the end of each reading is a helpful feature that encourages families to pray, invites them to discuss the issue further, or gives them a practical task to perform.
Top Customer Reviews 5.0 out of 5 stars By Todd M. Berens a practical guide to discussion with your family The tempo of this devotional is great. It is short enough to keep my teenage son engaged throughout our after-dinner devotions, but not so short that it becomes a pointless reading of words, primarily because of one key feature that I have found in (sadly) few (read: no) other family devotional: The "To Discuss" questions.
I learned recently that my son didn't like our family dinners because they weren't meaningful for him. I didn't understand that until I finally learned that teens don't see questions like "how was school" and "how was your day" to be meaningful questions, even though I thought so since I was interested in his life. No, they want to discuss issues. This devotional sets those discussions up for you by including discussion questions at the end of each day's devotion that are based on the Bible reading for the day and on the story (or case) for that day. Without the discussion, the devotional probably takes no more than 5 minutes, but my family has sat for up to a half hour after dinner discussing the lessons in this devotional. And for those who aren't prayer warriors, the prayer after discussion is very short. Have a longer one if you want, but I don't usually.
All in all, an exceptional devotional for talking to your family!
There's also a couple of others, I just haven't decided which one to get them for next year.
One Year Book of Josh McDowell's Family Devotions 2 (Beyond Belief Campaign)
Josh McDowell's Beyond Belief message is the foundation to launch a spiritual revolution among youth. This is a revolution to equip churches and families to raise up a generation of the cross―young people who have been transformed by Christ and the cross, who are empowered to live crossgrain to the culture and are committed to share Christ across all cultures.
Sixteen stand-alone products make up an entire family of resources that churches need to launch a church-wide revolution. These products are directed to every age group from 5 to 105, and help equip church groups and families with the tools to lead their children and youth to become transformed, passionate followers of Christ.
In this first follow-up to Josh's popular first family devotional, Josh helps parents pray and worship together with their children while grounding them in knowledge of why God is who he is.
Or there's this one:
The One Year Josh McDowell's Youth Devotions
Aimed directly at the needs and interests of preteens and teens, The One Year Josh McDowell’s Youth Devotions is a Right From Wrong devotional that helps young people apply the Scriptures in daily decision making. Covering a host of topics that are relevant to today’s teens, this devotional encourages teens to think through difficult choices, enabling them to discover why certain choices are right or wrong.
