I was remembering another miracle that happened for Jennifer, this time when she was 2 years old. I'd been working with her from the day she came home to help her move her right arm and leg and hold things in her right hand. I'd worked with her to try and teach her to roll over, sit up, crawl, stand, etc., constantly with the help of my other young children, we would work her arms and legs and show her the motions she would make to do all those things. One of the hardest things to teach her was to relax the muscles in her right arm, and hand, leg and foot, and how to tense the muscles purposely to hold an object in her right hand. Little by little, and very slowly, she eventually did learn to do those things, although she did them much later than other babies, and even though the doctors continually said it was pointless because she would never do them at all. But I was stubborn and determined that one day she would run and play like my other children did.
When it was time for her 2 year old check up, I was excited for the doctors to see her again. I knew they'd be shocked at how much she could do, since they still expected her to be unable to do anything at all. So I headed to the clinic that day not knowing which doctor she'd see, but as she'd seen most of the pediatricians, I figured it really didn't matter. Even if one of the doctors she hadn't seen saw her, I knew he would have read her file and would be expecting a baby unable to do anything at all. The nurse took us back to the exam room and we waited a short time for the doctor to come in. It was one we hadn't seen before, and the first thing he said was not to worry as he'd studied her chart carefully that morning. He then proceeded to examine her. It was weird though, as he didn't say a single word the entire time...but his face kept getting redder! I even began to worry that something was wrong that I was unaware of. Finally, when he'd fully examined her, during which time he saw among other things that she could quite obviously roll over, sit up, pull herself up on things and stand, and that she spoke, he literally began screaming at me! Of course that made Jennifer start to cry, and I wasn't far behind her! He kept yelling that he knew what I was up to, but I didn't have the slightest idea of what he was talking about, so I couldn't "confess" like he kept telling me to.
I'm sure he could see the obvious confusion on my face, although I was also fearful as I wasn't used to having someone yell at me and accuse me of something. He finally yelled that he knew that I was trying to trick them and had brought in some other child and was pretending that child was the same baby that I'd given birth to, but that he knew better because there was absolutely no way that child (he pointed at Jennifer) could be the same child with cerebral palsy that was written about in the chart he had! He then literally stomped out of the room, slamming the door loudly behind him.
I gathered up Jennifer and went out to the car as I was very shaken up. I'd gone there expecting the doctor to be as full of joy as I was, only to be accused of switching children! I couldn't believe it had really happened! As I calmed down though, I realized that the doctors reaction to Jennifer had confirmed what I already knew, even more than if they'd examined her and been joyful about it like I'd expected! His reaction showed beyond any doubt that Jennifer's improvement was a literal miracle from God!!! Yes, I'd worked very hard to help her, and so had my other children, but I wouldn't have known what to do or how to do it, if the Lord had not guided me and shown me what to do. On top of that, even if we had somehow known what to do, it wouldn't have worked unless the Lord Himself had "fixed" the muscles in her body and caused her brain to be able to form new pathways to make her right side respond as it should. The amount of damage to her brain at birth showed she'd be totally unable to ever do anything. That was a medical fact, and why that doctor could not accept that the child he examined was in fact, Jennifer. Thanks be to God who formed her in my womb though, because He could and did undo the damage that was caused by her early birth.
There have been many other miracles that the Lord has done in Jennifer's life, as well as for me and my other children. You can read about the miracle after her birth at this link if you'd like to:
