This is a place to ask questions of the more computer savvy.
Here is mine:
Starting in July the law will change in our state.
No hand held phone use while driving.
My cell phone is Bluetooth compatible. But I still
don't know what to do. How do you use your phone in
the car?

I don't know what blue tooth compatible even means lol but for me the rule is that you don't talk on your phone or use your phone at all when you're driving. The only acceptable way to use it to me is if you pull off the road to do so. Sadly most people don't do that, and many use their phones saying that since they don't have to hold them, it's ok. But it's not. It's still a distraction and causes accidents, injuries and death. My oldest daughter is hardly ever home and always tells me to call her at work. Well, I have another rule... I don't call people at work. That to me is wrong. People aren't at work to chat with friends and family. She is often in her car in between jobs or clients and says she can talk to me then, but then my rule about using the phone in the car applies. Consequently I rarely talk to her. But, at least I know I'm not adding to the possibility of her death or injury due to an accident or to her losing her job due to getting so many calls from friends and family. I'm sure she doesn't see it that way lol. But she should have known that anyway as that's how I raised her. My youngest daughter on the other hand, has the same rules I do. She has a cell phone but won't answer it if it rings when she's driving. Instead, she'll pull off the road, see who called and call them back if she thinks it's important. So at least I don't have to worry about her causing an accident, just about all the other people on the road. It's scary to me and I hate seeing people talking when they drive! Personally, more and more I wish the stupid things had never been invented.

In the jurisdiction which I'm living, Bluetooth may be used when driving since it doesn't impede the driver. I've never used one as I don't use a cellphone, however, your phone will require a Bluetooth device you can buy at a cellphone dealer, catt.

I checked in at US Cellular. The handsome salesrep. recommended a device that costs $80.00. I thanked him and will take a look at what Walmart has to offer. The newer cars have this sort of device built into the dash board. Right there with the GPS, Pandora etc. The salesman said this type has an echo. It picks up all the car noise as well as your voice.
Thank you for your input Daniel.

Hi Catt,
All bluetooth is , is a radio link between a bluetooth device ( in your case a hands free device for a mobile phone ) and your mobile phone itself.
Make sure the bluetooth when its on, only the hands free device can connect to your phone. I think they call it "pairing".
HTH

Thanks Steve. That is a good explanation. My sons have new cars, so the link is already built into their cars. A new car is not on my shopping list.

New Question Does anyone know how to remove Apple programs from my PC?
Specifically, Quick time and the Cloud. I think they are slowing my desktop down. It was for my family members who had ipods and iphones. But, I don't use them. I have Windows 7. I hope there's an uninstall somewhere.

Hi
I have heard of a car being hacked using its bluetooth connection....personally I'd always have it disabled.
To de-install a program go to Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features Right click on the program you want to remove and choose "uninstall". Thats it. I'd also reboot afterward.

Yes, what Steve said is the usual way to uninstall any program from your computer. I looked it up for you though and it seems like a number of people have a problem uninstalling it because it's not listed in their computer programs in the control panel. That was easily solved for some of them though when it was discovered that they weren't logged into their computer as the admin. So if you can't see it in your program list in the control panel, that might be the reason. Others solved it by having to reinstall the program to fix it, so that it would appear in the control panel list. On further investigation though, it looks like you have to sign out of the icloud first. Let me give you the page with instructions and pictures that shows how to uninstall it from windows 7. Uninstall icloud Hope that helps!

Tada! It's done! No more apple products gumming up the works. The Wiki how site was very helpful. The giant red arrow was truly a necessary part of the explanation. But the icloud was still there when I rebooted. It helped though, because I learned what to look for and that "change" is used when there is no "uninstall" choice. How ever, when it came to actually removing the programs I used Steve's instructions and followed the promts. I rebooted each time I removed an apple product. And I removed them all. Thank you to both of you!

Windows 10?
I got a flag on the left hand side of my screen. It says I can get a free download of Windows 10. Has any one heard of this ? Is it for real ? Or is it an evil trick to ruin my whole operating system. I mean an intentionally bad program, not just a version of windows that is exceptionally bad. Or maybe it is good. Wouldn't that be something!

We have that flag or emblem on our computer and we are signed up to get it. Clicking on the flag answers many questions about the Windows 10 upgrade. My DH will install it when it becomes available.

If you have malwarebytes, you'd just have to run it (if you don't have it running all the time) to be sure it wasn't something bad, but I don't think it is. If it's running all the time, then it's obviously not bad or it would have been caught by malwarebytes lol

that reminded me to post the computer help thread again or at least part of it. You can find out more about malwarebytes in it if you're interested. It's a free program and the one techs use to detect and get rid of malware on a clients computer. fresh-hope.com/thread/471/computer-help

Hi Cindy, I followed your advice last night and got the home premium malwarebytes. When I tried my existing program, they said it was out dated by 1241 days. They found 152 threats. And when I checked the control panel I found 3 more apple programs, 3 old Kodak printer programs and my old security programs. I uninstalled them. This time they are really gone. Hurrah! Oh and by the way that old security program cost me $200.00 when purchased back in 2012.

Malwarebytes has a thing called Heuristic Analysis. What does that mean? Higher-risk-tic? IDK.

Cindy explained what heuristic means in the "Computer help" thread. It means they look for patterns common to malware, viruses and trojans.
I bought an earpiece for hands free phone calling . Walmart had the expensive device, that US Cellular was selling, for $15.00 less. I opted for the $30.00 one. It is a Plantronics M70. I am not sure about the sound quality. I don't really like things in my ears either. (sensitive ears) The salesman surprised me. He said I could return it within 15 days if I didn't like it. I think I'll have to try it in the car first. I don't know if I can get it back in the fancy packaging though.

CAUTION
Please bear in mind that all Bluetooth and mobile phones use microwave band radiation.
Microwaves cover a frequency from 300 Mhz to 5 Ghz. Your microwave oven at home runs at 2.450 Ghz. The russians proved it wasnt necessarily the intensity of radiation thats a problem - long term low level radiation can be just as bad. So if you weare a bluetooth transmitter right next to your brain for hours and hours and hours....be aware.
Out of curiosity one day, I calulated in watts/square inch my older Nokia when transmitting that off a small phone antenna it used the same power as a 1kW microwave oven on low ( i.e. running at a constant 250 Watts ) .......
Older phones dont transmit constantly, they only talk to the towers occasionally when not used for a conversation. Smart phones however - differnet story if you have web sites or twitter or face book open - they have a constant internet link open and transmitting constantly, which is one reason why the battery runs down so fast. Now that "must have" it in your pocket or handbag next to you for hours.....
If you put WiFi in your house , you are being constantly irradiated by microwave band radiation 24 x 7 unless the router goes into a power save mode.
The EU have looked at banning WiFi in schools - irradiatiing young kids is not a good idea. I think its a sensible decision. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1387291/Mobile-phones-wi-fi-banned-schools-theyre-potentially-harmful.html
France bans wi fi in day care centres.
takebackyourpower.net/news/2015/02/01/france-new-law-bans-wifi-in-daycares-restricts-wireless-infrastructure/.
cms.education.gov.il/EducationCMS/Applications/Mankal/EtsMedorim/3/3-6/HoraotKeva/K-2013-3-3-6-11.htm "The Israeli Ministry Of Education has issue new guidelines regarding WiFi use in schools. As of 27 August 2013 the guidelines will stop the installation of wireless networks in classrooms prior to the first grade and limit the use of WiFi between first and third grades. Teachers will be required to turn off mobile phones and WiFi routers when they are not being used."
www.who.int/peh-emf/project/mapnatreps/RUSSIA%20report%202008.pdf "In 2008 Russian National Committee on Non-Ironizing Radiation Protection (RNCNIRP) ( www.tesla.ru/english/index.html ) gave a warning about the serious and irreparable consequences of electromagnetic radiation especially for children. In 2011, they again intensified this warning and recommended WiFi not be used in schools."
Its worth noting the Russians produce some of the best engineers in the world.
( I have a science / engineering background and had a friend who used to do professional EMR analysis of mobile phones and radio gear so I used to get to see things....some of it scary...)
Worth thinking about.
There is nothing free in this life...except Gods love.

Thanks for the heads up sw7777. I have an older dumb phone. And the earpiece is only used occasionally. I really can't tolerate it in my ear for more than a minute. I have an option of turning off the Wifi. All I have to do it plug it in to another outlet. Then I can turn it on or off with the light switch.
