Netanyahu leads angry denunciations of ‘absurd’ UNESCO decision
By Times of Israel staff October 13, 2016
Furious Israeli politicians accused the UN’s cultural arm of anti-Semitism Thursday in the wake of a resolution approved by UNESCO that erases the Jewish connection the Jerusalem holy sites.
Lawmakers from both the right and left of the political spectrum said the decision, which refers to the Temple Mount and Western Wall only by their Muslim names and condemns Israel as “the occupying power” for various actions taken in both places, was ill-befitting of UNESCO.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the decision “absurd,” while President Reuven Rivlin called it an “embarrassment” for UNESCO. The Executive Board of UNESCO is next week set to approve the resolution, which passed Thursday at the committee stage.
Culture Minister Miri Regev slammed the resolution as “shameful and anti-Semitic,” and Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel called for Israel to increase the Jewish presence on the Temple Mount, a flashpoint site governed by a tense status quo, in response.
“To say that Israel has no link to the Temple Mount is like saying that China has no link to the Great Wall or that Egypt has no connection to the Pyramids,” Netanyahu said, adding that “with this absurd decision UNESCO has lost what little legitimacy it still had.”
He also said UNESCO was ignorant regarding the Bible, and accused the body of taking part in a “Theater of the Absurd.”
What's next? A UNESCO decision denying the connection between peanut butter and jelly? Batman and Robin? Rock and roll?

U.N. body votes Temple Mount no longer Jewish
Leo Hohmann
UNESCO, the United Nations committee responsible for “cultural understanding,” has given preliminary approval to a resolution that denies the documented historic Jewish connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.
The vote was 24-6 with another 26 nations abstaining. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately condemned the resolution as “the theater of the absurd.”
The proposed resolution, submitted by seven Muslim nations under the title “Item 25: Occupied Palestine” refers to parts of the site by the Muslim terms, “Al-Aqsa Mosque” and “Haram al-Sharif” and emphasizes the historic and religious significance of the site to Islam, but simply ignores evidence of Jewish history at the same site.
The document refers to Israel throughout as “the occupying Power” and accuses it of “aggressions and illegal measures” at the holy site.
UNESCO “firmly deplores the continuous storming of Al-Aqṣa Mosque/Al-Ḥaram Al-Sharif by Israeli right-wing extremists and uniformed forces, and urges Israel, the occupying Power, to take necessary measures to prevent provocative abuses that violate the sanctity and integrity of Al-Aqṣa Mosque/Al-Ḥaram Al-Sharif.”
The resolution also condemns Israel’s construction work in the Western Wall area by referring to it by its Muslim name “Al-Buraq Plaza,” a reference to the mythical unicorn that transported the prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem.
In reality, Muhammad never set foot in Jerusalem or the Temple Mount.

Death Threats, Scandals, and International Condemnation: The Ugly Aftermath of the UNESCO Vote
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz October 18, 2016
And it shall come to pass in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Yerushalayim.” Zechariah 12:9
The UNESCO vote last Thursday that erased any connection between Judaism and its holiest sites has resulted in scandals, death threats, and blatantly dirty politics. At least one country that voted in support just a few days ago is now reconsidering its connection with a resolution that rewrites the Bible.
After the vote on Thursday, Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, did not criticize the resolution in a direct manner, but her statements to the media indicated her disapproval with the wording that acknowledged Jerusalem’s holy sites as exclusively Muslim domain. ...
Israeli Ambassador to UNESCO, Carmel Shama Hacohen, stated on Israeli public radio that Bokova received death threats as a result of her statements.
“These threats were made after her criticism” of two resolutions adopted last week at committee stage ahead of a final vote, Cohen said, accusing Arab countries of “appalling conduct” over the drafts. The claim was not confirmed by UN officials.

Markell: UN has Jew-less plans for Jerusalem
October 20, 2016 Chad Groening (OneNewsNow.com)
The head of a messianic Jewish ministry says it's no surprise a United Nations agency revealed its extreme anti-Israel bias.
On Tuesday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization approved a resolution called "Occupied Palestine," which the Israeli government called more evidence of an ingrained anti-Israel bias within the UN (see earlier story).
UNESCO has declared that Jerusalem's Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, should be referred to by its Arabic name.
Muslims claim the Temple Mount is the third most holy site in Islam behind Mecca and Medina.
The Los Angeles Times explained that the declaration "refers to the Old City’s contested holy esplanade by naming the Muslim holy sites while ignoring mention of the ancient Jewish temple that once stood there."

UN General Assembly supports resolution ignoring Jewish ties to Temple Mount
By DANIELLE ZIRI, TOVAH LAZAROFF 11/30/2016

The Jerusalem resolution was one of six resolutions condemning Israel and supporting the Palestinians that the General Assembly approved on Wednesday, as part of its special annual session for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which began on Tuesday.
All the European member states present in the room voted in favor of the resolution – countries such as France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.

UNESCO Crosses the (Green) Line: New Resolution Would Deny Israel’s Sovereignty Over West Jerusalem, Too
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 27, 2017
“At that time they shall call Yerushalayim the throne of Hashem; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Hashem, to Yerushalayim; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.” Jeremiah 3:17
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will celebrate Israel’s Independence Day next week by voting on anti-Israel resolutions. The resolutions will be presented to the Executive Board in Paris and will expand on previous UNESCO declarations by declaring the Jewish presence in West Jerusalem to be illegal.
Diplomatic sources informed the Jerusalem Post that the focus of the new resolutions will be to challenge Israeli sovereignty in all of Jerusalem. An initial draft composed by ten European countries was presented to UNESCO last month by a group of Arab states. The draft stated that “any action taken by Israel, the Occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the City of Jerusalem, are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever.”
The wording of this resolution goes further than previous UNESCO resolutions, which negated the Jewish connection to East Jerusalem and its holy sites while granting a religious monopoly of the city to Islam. If accepted next week, this will be the first time UNESCO has undermined Jewish sovereignty in West Jerusalem.
