Surprise? Global war deaths doubled in Obama era
By Gil Ronen 3/3/2016
Seven years into Barack Obama's presidency, Israeli website Mida decided to check whether the Nobel Peace Prize laureate's isolationist approach has brought about a decrease in global war deaths.
It turned out that the opposite is true.
Mida editor-in-chief Akiva Bigman perused the database of the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in Sweden, which includes a comprehensive list of wars and conflicts worldwide using data collected since 1989.
The database contains a detailed list of global battle-related death tallies, which includes all those killed as a direct result of military operations, including civilians killed by bombardments, civilians killed in crossfire, and so on. It goes up to 2014, and Bigman filled in 2015 and early 2016 using other sources.
Then came Obama
"From a global perspective," he wrote, "what is especially noteworthy is the drastic change that has occurred since Obama became president. From 2001-2008, there were 159,121 deaths recorded as a direct result of wars, including the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, even using statistics only up to 2014, we notice a jump in Obama's presidency of some 80% in the number of overall deaths: 286,204.
"Moreover, when we add only Syria and Iraq in 2015 – with more than 75,000 killed – there is a jump of 227% compared to (George W.) Bush. When data from 2016 and additional conflict zones becomes available, it is not unlikely that Obama would finish his presidency with numbers similar to those of another appeaser, Bill Clinton, at 400,275 deaths."
The region that has suffered the most under Obama is the Middle East, Mida found. "During the entire decade from 1991 to 2000, which included the First Gulf War, 49,853 deaths were recorded in wars in the region, and in the eight years from 2001 to 2008, during which the United States invaded Iraq a second time, the number of deaths was 28,724.
"Then came Obama, and almost immediately the trend shifted again. Obama abandoned the war on terror and declared his intention to withdraw U.S. troops from the region. The result was that some 148,110 deaths were recorded in the Middle East through the end of 2014. When we add the figures for 2015 and early 2016 from other sources, the number jumps to 243,000 deaths."
"This is a shocking comparison indeed: from Bush to Obama we see an increase of 846% in Middle East direct war deaths," noted Bigman.

Obama In Germany: Merkel Is On ‘Right Side Of History’ By Destroying Europe’s Borders
by Breitbart News 24 Apr 2016
(AFP) US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a joint pitch Sunday for deeper transatlantic trade in the face of mounting opposition, vowing to complete a vast US-EU trade pact that could spur much-needed economic growth.
After talks in the northern town of Hanover where tens of thousands marched Saturday against the planned deal, Obama said the world’s largest trade pact could be finalised by the end of the year.
“Angela and I agree that the United States and the European Union need to keep moving forward with the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations,” Obama said.
“I don’t anticipate that we will be able to have completed ratification of a deal by the end of the year, but I do anticipate that we can have completed the agreement.”
Both sides hope the pact will provide a shot in the arm to Western economies that are still struggling to erode the devastating effects of the global financial crisis.
“As you see other markets like China beginning to develop and Asia beginning to develop and Africa growing fast, we have to make sure our businesses can compete.”
Merkel echoed that sentiment, saying the deal was “extremely helpful to allow our economy in Europe to grow”.
“It is good for the German economy, it is good for the European economy,” she said.
But Obama acknowledged there was popular opposition.
“People are unsettled by globalisation,” he said. “People visibly see a plant moving and jobs lost and the narrative develops that this is weakening rather than strengthening the position of ordinary people and ordinary workers.”

Obama: This is the most peaceful era in human history
By Shlomo Pyotrkovsky 4/25/2016
US President Barack Obama said on Monday at a trade fair in Hannover, Germany, that this is the most "peaceful and prosperous era in human history."
Obama's comments came during a visit to Germany where he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and called for Europe and NATO to do more to fight the brutal Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization that has sprung up on his watch, committing mass rapes, beheadings, and genocide.
But according to the president, there's never been a better time for the world, and if someone had to choose a time in history to be born, it would be today.
Even while acknowledging there is suffering and tragedy, he nevertheless called this the "most peaceful era in human history," noting on longer life expectancies and better education, and saying it has been decades since the last time major powers warred against each other.
People should take confidence "in our ability to shape our down destiny," he said.

Obama: "We Live in a Peaceful Era"
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 26, 2016
“And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.” Isaiah 3:4 (The Israel Bible™)
Addressing world leaders at a trade fair in Hannover, Germany on Monday, US President Barack Obama acknowledged the good fortune of living in what he considers to be the “most peaceful” era in human history. He noted major advances in education, longevity of life, health care, and the spread of democracy as some of the many benefits of living today.
With pride, Obama added extreme strides in social equality to the list. “Around the world we’re more tolerant, with more opportunity for women and gays and lesbians as we push back on bigotry and prejudice,” he said.
Discouraging any incredulity, he explained that the negative images portrayed in the media showing rampant global violence were misleading.
“I want to begin with an observation that, given the challenges that we face in the world and the headlines we see every day, it may seem improbable but it’s true. We are fortunate to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history,” he said.
The president clarified his position, noting that it had been several decades since the major world powers had faced each other in war. “[Though] it seems like only bad news comes through every day, it’s been decades since the last war between major powers,” he said.
Ironically, amid reassurances of the current (relatively) peaceful era, Obama added that he plans to call on European leaders, encouraging them to step up their efforts to fight the radical Islamic group known as ISIS. Upon this declaration, the president revealed that the US will be sending an additional 250 Special Forces troops into Syria to join in the fight.
Obama also called for more airstrikes and training, suggesting that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries contribute two percent of their economic output to defense spending.
“Europe and NATO can still do more,” he said. “We need to do everything in our power to stop [ISIS],” adding, “Europe has sometimes been complacent about its own defense.”
While Obama’s statement regarding the length in time since World Wars One and Two is factually true, current data does not support his overall claim about this era being peaceful. In fact, it’s completely the opposite; the security situation in the world has worsened significantly since he took office in 2009.

U.S. Govt. Warns of Potential Islamic State Attacks as Ramadan Begins
Carly Hoilman Jun. 5, 2016
The State Department is warning Americans to remain alert during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In a report from the State Department-led Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), security officials warned that “martyrdom during the month may hold a special allure to some.”
The council has released several alerts and travel warnings urging U.S. citizens and organizations around the world to “remain aware of the persistent threat of (ISIS) attacks, both inspired and directed.”
A spokesman for the Islamic State has called on jihadists in the United States and Europe to carry out terror attacks he promised would be “the month of conquest and jihad,” the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer and religious devotion, begins Sunday, June 5, and will end July 5. It is held each year during the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Homeland Security Chair: ‘We Are in the Highest Threat Environment I Have Seen Since 9/11’
By Terence P. Jeffrey | June 9, 2016
(CNSNews.com) - House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul said today that “we are in the highest threat environment” he has seen since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
McCaul made the statement at an event hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations and moderated by Andrea Mitchell of NBC News, where House Republicans released their national security plans.
“I would say we are in the highest threat environment I have seen since 9/11,” McCaul said while speaking on a panel with House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte.
McCaul has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2005 and prior to that served as a federal prosecutor and deputy attorney general in Texas, according to the 2008 edition of the Almanac of American Politics. “In 2002,” the almanac says, “he joined the U.S. Attorney's office and was chief of the Terrorism and National Security Section for Western Texas.”
Here is a transcript of part of McCaul’s remarks:
“National security, I think, is the number one responsibility under the Constitution. I would say we are in the highest threat environment I have seen since 9/11. And, as you mentioned, the airports—last-point-of-departure airports—are a serious concern. I just returned from Cairo, Egypt, to look at that airport. We have daily flights into JFK. That concerns me...

Obama’s War is Upon Us
How the ex-Radical-in-Chief created a security vacuum that Iran rushed to fill.
Kenneth R. Timmerman
December 13, 2018
Donald Trump has a name for everything and everyone, from Crooked Hillary to Little Rocket Man, who for a time became his best friend. Will he call the next region-wide conflagration in the Middle East, when it breaks out, Obama’s War?
If he hasn’t thought of that already, he should start considering it now. Because the catastrophic policies of our former president have emboldened the Islamic state of Iran and enabled it to threaten the United States and our allies militarily in ways never before possible.
When Obama took office in January 2009, he inherited a strong U.S. military and diplomatic posture across the Middle East.
The U.S.-Israel strategic relationship was at its peak, with the Bush White House openly supporting Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s latest attempt to stop Hamas terror in Gaza.
The U.S. enjoyed a close relationship with a secular Turkey, that itself had strong ties to Israel.
Egypt was at peace, Qaddafi had come into the Western camp and abandoned terrorism and its nuclear weapons program, and the insurgency in Iraq had been crushed.
Al Qaeda truly was “on the run,” while Iran was beginning to feel the crunch of international sanctions over its previously covert nuclear weapons program.
Obama succeeded in reversing every one of these strong U.S. positions, treating Islamic Iran as a friend and Israel as an enemy while promoting the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and its terrorist spawn.
