Netanyahu: Our red lines stand, no Iranian terror state on Golan
By David Rosenberg 2/28/2016
After a ceasefire negotiated by the US and Russia went into effect Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu offered tempered support for the halt in the fighting during remarks at the beginning of the weekly Cabinet meeting.
"We welcome the efforts to achieve a stable, long-term and genuine ceasefire in Syria. Anything that stops the terrible killing there is important especially from a humanitarian standpoint,” said Netanyahu.
But the Prime Minister was quick to emphasize that Israel would not allow Iran to use the ceasefire as cover to build up military assets along the Golan Heights, demanding an end to Iranian activity in the area.
“It must be clear at the same time that any agreement in Syria must include a halt to Iran's aggression toward Israel from Syrian territory.”

Israel presents red lines to Russia on Golan, Iran
By Arutz Sheva Staff 3/17/2016
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday ahead of a planned Russian withdrawal from Syria.
Rivlin conveyed to the Russian leader Israel’s concerns about Iranian activity in Syria, and the active role the Hezbollah terror group has assumed in the Syrian civil war.
The Israeli leader also touched on the future status of the Golan Heights, which Syria continues to claim as sovereign territory, despite Israel’s annexation of the area in 1981. Rivlin reportedly told Putin that borders of both Syria and Iraq were arbitrarily drawn during the First World War, and did not reflect present realities. ...
Putin told Rivlin that Russia was committed to Israel’s security, and that the Russian president had “a personal commitment towards all of those Russians who immigrated to Israel.”

Trump-Putin safe zones deal ousts Iran from Syria
DEBKAfile DEBKA Weekly January 26, 2017
Syria stands on the threshold of dramatic changes that will directly impact on the strategic and military situation along the Syrian borders with Israel and Jordan, debkafile reports exclusively. They derive from a deal struck this week by US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to establish US, Russian and Turkish security zones in Syria. This scheme will transfer military control of the country to those three powers. Each of them will be responsible for a zone whose borders will be defined and agreed upon by Washington, Moscow and Ankara.
As part of this arrangement, all forces from the Iranian military, the pro-Iranian Shiite militias and Hizballah will be required to leave Syria.
The US military is to have two security zones – one covering the entire area east of the Euphrates River up to the Iraqi border including Kurdish areas (see attached map). This arrangement will partly resurrect the accord reached in late 2015 by US President Barack Obama and Putin, for the division of Syria into areas of influence. All territory east of the Euphrates was allocated to the US, with Russia taking responsibility for all areas west of the river until the Mediterranean coast. .
Under the new deal, the Turkish area is to stretch about 650 kilometers along the entire Syria-Turkey border and extend between 35 and 50 kilometers into Syrian territory up to Al-Bab, the town where the Turkish military is engaged in its third straight month of fighting for its capture from ISIS.

Russia freezes Syrian, Iranian military movements
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report January 31, 2017
An order to remain stationary was issued Thursday night, Jan. 26, by the Russian Commander in Syria Lt. Gen. Alexander Zhuravlev to the high commands of the Syrian army and of the Iranian and Shiite forces positioned in Aleppo, as well as Hizballah units in all parts of Syria. Gen. Zhuravlev, acting on instructions from Moscow, prohibited any movement by those forces out of their current positions as of noon local time.
Debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report that the order banned the opening of new battlefronts anywhere in Syria and the movement of Syrian air force units between bases.
This order has been obeyed to date.
The ban came from Moscow to prevent military reprisals against the Putin-Trump deal for Syria. There was no mention of penalties for disobedience, but the tone was peremptory. The three army commanders did not need reminding that the Russians are capable of using their electronic warfare systems to disrupt unauthorized military movements, jam their communications, and withhold fuel, ammo and spare parts to create havoc in their armies.

Netanyahu: Putin meeting to focus on averting Iranian entrenchment in Syria
By Alexander Fulbright March 5, 2017
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to address developments in Syria and how to combat Iran’s military presence in the war-torn country.
Speaking at the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Iran was seeking to exploit recent attempts to reach a political settlement in Syria in order to cement its military presence there.
“There is an attempt by Iran to entrench itself permanently in Syria, with a military ground and naval presence,” he said, adding that even without an agreement guaranteeing its long-term military presence in the country, Iran will seek to ensure it retains a foothold there.
Netanyahu also said: “There is also a gradual attempt to establish a front against us in the Golan Heights.” He would “express to President Putin Israel’s strong and resolute opposition to this possibility” when he goes to Moscow on Thursday, he said.

Israel Puts World On Notice - Military Action If Iran Moves Into Syria
By Yaakov Lappin/JNS.org September 01, 2017
Iran is expanding into Syria, converting the country into a military and weapons base, filling it with heavily armed Shi'a proxy forces, and earmarking it as a launchpad for future attacks on Israel.
Israel, in turn, has recently put the international community on notice, warning that a failure to stop the Iranian push into Syria will result in Israeli military action.
In this context, Israeli officials have traveled to the U.S. and Russia in recent weeks, to share information on Iran's military moves into Syria, and to sound out the alarm over what may come next.
Yet it remains far from clear that either Moscow or Washington can or will pressure the Iranians to stop. According to one report, Russia has placed its advanced S-400 air defense system near Iranian weapons factories in Syria.
The factories purportedly produce long-range guided missiles for the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah to use against Israel. Russia has not confirmed the report.
In August, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Sochi, Russia, where he met with President Vladimir Putin at his summer residence for an urgent meeting on Iran's activities in Syria.

Ex-IDF intel chief: Israel enforcing its ‘red lines’ with Syria strike
By Stuart Winer September 7, 2017
A former head of Israeli military intelligence said Thursday that an overnight airstrike on a Syrian chemical weapons facility that was attributed to Israel sends a message to world powers that the country intends to enforce its red lines when it comes to protecting itself.
General (res) Amos Yadlin tweeted that the facility in Masyaf hit overnight had also produced barrel bombs that were dropped on Syrian civilians, adding a moral justification to the airstrike that wasn’t directly related to Israel’s own security interests.
The Syrian army confirmed in the morning that a military site near Masyaf was bombed, saying the attack was carried out by Israeli jets with missiles fired from Lebanon, and killed two people.
Opposition sources quoted by Israel Radio said the airstrike destroyed weapons stores including chemical-tipped missiles that were to be delivered to Hezbollah.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on any of the reports.

PM to Russian defense minister: Israel won’t allow Iranian presence in Syria
By Judah Ari Gross
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russian defense chief Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday that Israel will not tolerate the presence of Iran on its borders, his office said.
Netanyahu also repeated his view that without a renegotiation of the Iran nuclear deal, the Islamic Republic would be in possession of an atomic weapon within the next decade.
Shoigu arrived in Israel on Monday for his first official visit.
“Iran needs to understand that Israel will not allow it” to militarily entrench itself in Syria, Netanyahu said during the meeting. ...
Meanwhile, Liberman also raised Iran’s growing presence in Syria, as well as its proxies’.
“We will not get involved in internal matters in Syria,” Liberman told the Russian defense minister on Monday, “but, on the other hand, we will not allow Iran and Hezbollah to turn Syrian territory into a forward operating base against Israel.”
Liberman told Shoigu that Israel is “operating responsibly and with determination” in Syria.
“We will not allow the transfer of advanced weaponry by Iran through Syria to Lebanon,” he added.

Iran establishing permanent military base in Syria
Elad Benari, 12/11/17
Iran is establishing a permanent military base inside Syria, a Western intelligence source told the BBC on Friday.
The Iranian military is said to have established a compound at a site used by the Syrian army outside El-Kiswah, located 14 kilometers (8 miles) south of Damascus.
Satellite images commissioned by the BBC seem to show construction activity at the site referenced by the intelligence source between January and October this year.
The images shows a series of two dozen large low-rise buildings,- likely for housing soldiers and vehicles.
In recent months, additional buildings have been added to the site. However, it is impossible to independently verify the purpose of the site and the presence of the Iranian military, noted the BBC.
An official from another Western country told the British network that ambitions for such a long-term presence in Syria would not be illogical for Iran.

Iran Establishes Military Base in Syria 35 Miles From Israeli Border
By JNI Media November 12, 2017
“As You are faithful, put an end to my foes; destroy all my mortal enemies, for I am Your servant.” Psalms 143:12
According to the BBC, citing a Western intelligence source, Iran has established a permanent military base outside El-Kiswah, 8 miles south of Damascus and some 35 miles north of Israel’s border with Syria.
The BBC commissioned satellite images from McKenzie Intelligence Services, showing the progress of construction activity at the site from January to October 2017. There is no doubt that the base is burgeoning, with at least 25 buildings intended to house soldiers and equipment.
The BBC story speculates as to the actual purpose of the new base, noting that for now they have not spotted unconventional weapons. But for this new base to be a threat to Israel, at a distance of less than 100 miles from the Sea of Galilee and the thickly populated civilian area around it, the Iranian base doesn’t need unconventional weapons.
Al Arabiya reported on Friday that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have established a new militia named Brigade 313 in Southern Syria. The Syrian opposition has warned that the militia, trained and funded by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, aims to use the de-escalation zones in South Syria to advance Iran’s designs on the Israeli border area. The chief negotiator for the Sunni rebel groups Mohammed Sabra said the militia is part of Iran’s divisive policies in the region.

US, Russia reach Syria agreement to distance Iran from Golan Heights — reports
By Alexander Fulbright
The United States, Russia and Jordan have reportedly reached an agreement on a ceasefire deal in southern Syria that would include the expulsion of Iranian-backed militias from the border with Israel in the Golan Heights.
Under the agreement apparently inked Saturday, all non-Syrian fighters, including Iranian proxies fighting on behalf of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime, would be required to leave the border area and eventually Syria, Hebrew media reports said Sunday, citing an American official.
According to similar reports in Channel 10 and Israel Radio, the official did not say how far from the border the militias would be removed or under what time frame. In addition to Iran-backed groups, affiliates of both al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group, both of which count foreign fighters among their ranks, operate in Syria near the Israeli border.
There was no immediate response to the reports by Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman have said Israel will not tolerate an Iranian presence along the Golan nor allow Iran to entrench itself military in Syria.

IDF attacks Iranian targets in Syria
Elad Benari, 21/01/19
...Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu later hinted that Israel was behind the daytime air strike against Syria.
“We have a permanent policy: To strike at the Iranian entrenchment in Syria and hurt whoever tries to hurt us. This policy does not change whether I am in Israel or on an historic visit to Chad. This policy is permanent,” Netanyahu said in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, as he was about to board an airplane back to Israel.
Netanyahu last week broke with his country’s long-standing policy of not publicly accepting responsibility for airstrikes in Syria, and acknowledged that Israel’s air force had attacked Iranian weapons depots at the Damascus International Airport.
"Only in the past 36 hours the air force attacked storehouses of Iran with Iranian weapons at the Damascus international airport," Netanyahu revealed.
Before that, outgoing IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot admitted in an interview with the New York Times that the IDF carried out many attacks in Syria and Lebanon during his term in office.
