Putin vows never to reconcile with 'Islamized' Turkey
By Arutz Sheva Staff 12/17/2015
Russian President Vladimir Putin fired off an angry tirade against Turkey on Thursday, ruling out any reconciliation with its leaders and accusing Ankara of shooting down a Russian warplane to impress the United States.
In comments littered with crude language, Putin dismissed the possibility that the downing of the warplane over the Turkish-Syrian border last month was an accident, calling it a "hostile act."
"We find it difficult if not impossible to come to an agreement with the current leadership of Turkey," the Kremlin strongman said at his annual news conference.
"On the state level, I don't see any prospects of improving relations with the Turkish leadership," he said of Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ties between Russia and NATO member Turkey have been severely strained since the November 24 incident, which led to deaths of two Russian military officers.
Turkey has said the Russian jet strayed into its airspace and ignored repeated warnings, but Moscow insists it never left Syrian territory.

Putin orders government to start ‘normalizing’ trade with Turkey
By AFP June 29, 2016
MOSCOW, Russia — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered his government to begin the process of lifting sanctions imposed against Turkey after Ankara shot down a Russian warplane last year.
“I ask that the Russian government begins the process of normalizing general trade and economic ties with Turkey,” Putin said at a cabinet meeting following a telephone conversation with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
First on his list were travel restrictions between the countries.
“I want to start with the question of tourism … we are lifting the administrative restrictions in this area,” Putin told government ministers in televised comments.
The move came after earlier in the day Putin and Erdogan held their first phone call since Ankara downed one of Moscow’s jets in Syria last year.

Russian, Turkish leaders agree to close 'crisis chapter' in ties
By Vladimir Soldatkin and Dasha Afanasieva
The presidents of Russia and Turkey agreed on Wednesday to resume bilateral cooperation, including in the fight against terrorism, after a period of diplomatic tension and said they wanted to hold a face-to-face meeting.
Relations between Moscow and Ankara have been badly strained since Turkey last year shot down a Russian warplane taking part in Moscow's military campaign in Syria.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed regret for the incident this week in a letter to President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin leader said the letter created conditions to close "this crisis chapter" in bilateral relations.
Both Moscow and Ankara said the two presidents had held a "constructive" telephone conversation on Wednesday.
Putin said he would order the government to start talks with Turkey on resuming "mutually advantageous" trade relations and to drop restrictive measures on Russian tourists visiting Turkey, the Kremlin said in a statement.

Russia ready to lift Turkey tourism ban
29 Jun, 2016 RTNews
President Putin has agreed to end the Russian ban on tourism to Turkey during a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to the Kremlin.
“However, it is advisable for Turkish authorities to take further steps to ensure security of Russian citizens in the country,” the Kremlin quotes the Russian president.
Relations significantly deteriorated last November when Moscow introduced sanctions against Turkey in response to the death of a Russian pilot who was shot down in Syria last year. ...
Tourism is the lifeline of the Turkish economy. It accounts for 11 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. More than a million registered workers are employed in the tourism industry.
Earlier this week, the Kremlin said the Turkish president had sent a letter to Vladimir Putin offering “his deep sympathy and condolences to the relatives of the deceased Russian pilot.” Erdogan described Russia as Turkey’s “friend and a strategic partner,” which Ankara didn’t want to lose.

Turkey ready to work with Russia in fight against ISIS, but no mention of Incirlik base – Ankara
4 Jul, 2016 RTNews
The Turkish foreign minister has said Ankara would cooperate with any country in the fight against the Islamic State terror group, including Russia, but stressed that he did not intend to offer Incirlik airbase for use by the Russian Air Force.
Earlier on Monday, news agencies cited Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as telling national TV channel TRT that Ankara would cooperate with “everybody who is fighting Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL].”
“Ankara has opened the Incirlik airbase to all those wishing to join the active fight. Why not cooperate with Russia in the same manner?” Cavusoglu said.
Several hours later Cavusoglu denied mentioning Russia’s possible presence at Incirlik. ...
The Russian and Turkish special services are yet to revive channels for sharing information between intelligence agencies, which have been inactive for some time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the time has come for them to be “reloaded” and made fully-functional again.
Peskov made the point that to his knowledge, the Russian and Turkish militaries have not yet resumed official communication.

Russia ready to supply S-400 missile systems to Turkey – Putin
1 Jun, 2017 RTNews
Russia is ready to sell its S-400 air defense systems to Turkey, President Vladimir Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). He added the issue was discussed earlier with his Turkish counterpart.
“We discussed the possibility of selling S-400s [to Turkey]. We are ready for this,” Putin said in answer to a question from a Turkish media reporter.
Speaking about cooperation between Moscow and Ankara in assembling the defense systems in Turkey, he said it depends on the readiness of local manufacturing industry.
“At the moment, we don't produce those systems abroad,” Putin added.
“We are ready to deliver these newest and most efficient systems. President [Recep Tayip] Erdogan and our countries’ militaries are aware of it.”
