Russian passenger aircraft with 220 onboard crashes over Egypt
31 Oct, 2015 RTNews
A Russian plane carrying over 220 people from Egypt to Russia disappeared from radars, and crashed in central Sinai, according to Russian and Egyptian authorities.
Kolavia Flight 7K9268, an Airbus A321, went off radar 23 minutes after taking off from Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, Sergey Izvolskiy told the media citing preliminary data.
The plane was carrying 217 passengers and 7 crewmembers, he added. Seventeen of the passengers were children.
The Russian embassy in Egypt initially said all on board were Russian citizens. Later, the Belorussian embassy said one of the passengers was Belorussian. Egyptian authorities said three of the victims were Ukrainian, but Kiev didn’t immediately confirm that.
Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail confirmed that the Russian plane did go missing over Sinai and said a cabinet-level crisis committee has been convened to deal with the incident.
The crash site was discovered hours later in a desolate mountainous area of central Sinai, Egypt’s aviation ministry reported.

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Russian Plane Crash, Releases Video Footage
Truth Revolt 11.2.2015
SIS has released a new video that allegedly shows the final moments of the Russian plane that crashed in Egypt, killing all 224 passengers.
The terror group has claimed it downed the aircraft, but has not said how it might have done so. The horrific footage - which was posted online and cannot be verified by MailOnline - shows a large structure resembling a plane falling through the air, before being consumed by a mass of smoke.
Cairo and Moscow have denied any possible terrorism link in the incident, which was one of the deadliest Airbus crashes in the past decade.
However, it has emerged that the aircraft broke up mid-air scattering debris and bodies over a wide area. This morning, Egyptian authorities recovered the body of a three-year-old girl some five miles from the crash scene.
The Russian A321 airbus crashed on Saturday, shortly after it took off from Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt heading to St. Petersburg, Russia.more www.truthrevolt.org/news/isis-claims-responsibility-russian-plane-crash-releases-video-footage

Anti-air missiles in ISIS hands also imperil Saudi, Jordanian and Israeli skies
DEBKAfile Special Report November 5, 2015
The British Cobra (emergency cabinet) decision of Wednesday, Nov. 4, not to send airliners to or from Sharm El-Sheikh, where 20,000 British tourists are stranded, further strengthens the assumption that the Russian Metrojet Flight 9268 was downed over Sinai Saturday by a terrorist missile. It confirms that air traffic over Sinai and landings at Sharm are under threat from the ground - else why leave a large group of Britons under virtual siege in the Egyptian Red Sea resort? London said that the suspension of flights to Sharm was “indefinite.”
Moscow early Thursday accused London of being moved to this action out of hostility to Russia rather than security concerns. Downing Street released a statement Wednesday saying: "As more information has come to light, we have become concerned that the plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device.” This statement was criticized by Egypt as “premature” – not a good omen for the conversation Prime Minister David Cameron is due to hold with his visitor, Egyptian president Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi, later Thursday.
The British government has therefore stubbed toes in Moscow and Cairo without coming up with an emergency plan for evacuating its citizens from Egypt, whether overland to Cairo by bus or by sea aboard ships picking them up at the Red Sea resort and sailing through the Suez Canal.
This lack of initiative is a sign of confusion and uncertainty.
So far, the drawn-out deliberations and prevarications by officials in several countries regarding the crash of the Russian plane are meant for one purpose: to gain time for doing nothing about ISIS in Sinai. Neither the US, Russia or Britain is ready to send forces to the peninsula to confront the terrorists head-on.

Officials: Ground crew likely smuggled bomb onto Russian plane
By Ari Soffer 11/5/2015
US officials investigating the crash of a Russian airliner over the Sinai Peninsula now believe ground crew at Sharm al-Sheikh airport were responsible for smuggling aboard an explosive device which downed Metrojet Flight 9268.
According to MSNBC news, US officials still view a bomb as the most likely explanation for the crash, but say that all air crew and passengers had been screened and none of them had any known connections to terrorist or extremist groups - raising the prospect that someone else with access to the plane planted the bomb.
That being the case, it would not have taken a particularly sophisticated device - for example, advanced surface-to-air missiles, a theory debunked shortly after the crash itself - to down the aircraft. A relatively rudimentary bomb would simply need to be well-concealed enough to pass airport security.
According to numerous travelers who passed through the airport recently, security was shambolic-to-nonexistent.
"It was dreadful," one woman told Sky News. "Staff actually had to be woken up to scan hand luggage."

Russia suspends flights to Egypt due to security concerns after Sinai crash
6 Nov, 2015 RTNews
President Vladimir Putin has agreed with the Federal Security Service to halt all Russian flights to Egypt following an October 31 passenger plane crash in Sinai that killed all 224 people on board.
"As long as we haven’t established the causes of the incident, I consider it appropriate to suspend the flights of Russian aircraft to Egypt. This primarily applies to the tourist flow,” FSB director Aleksandr Bortnikov told a meeting of the Russian Anti-Terror Committee on Friday.
Egypt has provided Russian investigators with access to all the fragments of the crashed plane as well as the baggage, he said. There is need for “absolute objectivity” and “confirmed data” to establish the causes of the disaster, he added.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin agreed with the recommendations of the Federal Security Service (FSB). He added that Putin had instructed the government to ensure the safe return of Russian citizens from Egypt and to cooperate with the Egyptian authorities on establishing air traffic security.
The flights will be suspended until a “proper level of air communication security” is established, he said.

Egypt says West hasn’t helped in war on terror
By AP November 7, 2015
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt — Egypt’s foreign minister complained on Saturday that Western governments had not sufficiently helped Egypt in its war on terrorism and had not shared relevant intelligence with Cairo regarding the Russian airplane that crashed last week in the Sinai, killing all 224 people on board.
Sameh Shoukry, speaking at a press conference, said that “European countries did not give us the cooperation we are hoping for.”
Egypt’s past calls for assistance and coordination on terrorism issues from “the countries that are now facing the danger” had not been dealt with seriously, he said.
Shoukry also complained that Western nations that have suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh did not share with Cairo the relevant intelligence upon which they based their decisions. US and British officials have cited intelligence reports as indicating that the Russian flight from the Sinai resort town to St. Petersburg was brought down on October 31 by a bomb on board.
Shourky told reporters that Egypt “expected that the information available would be communicated to us instead of being broadcast” in the media.

Report: Russian airliner downed by British jihadis
By Cynthia Blank 11/8/2015
British media revealed Sunday that intelligence officials have reason to believe the terrorists who planned, or even carried out, the downing of a Russian airliner in Sinai last Saturday were British nationals who joined the ranks of Islamic State.
Officials at Government Communications Headquarters intercepted "chatter" in which numerous jihadis - including those with London and Birmingham accents - are heard celebrating the crash.
One senior intelligence source said the recordings suggest there is a "definite and strong link" between the British jihadis and the suspected bombing.
“There has...been some internet traffic suggesting there was British involvement in the attack. We know there are British jihadis in Egypt fighting with members of Islamic State," the source said.
