Iran: We'll Protect Against Mideast Terror
By Arutz Sheva Staff 9/22/2015
Iran's armed forces are the best defense against "terror" in the Middle East, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday, urging regional countries not to rely on world powers.
"Today, the largest power against intimidation and terror is our armed forces," Rouhani said at a massive military parade in Tehran.
Iran has played a major role in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organization in neighboring Iraq independently of the US-led coalition. It has provided military advisors, weapons and trainers to both the Iraqi army and numerous terror groups - including Hezbollah and Hamas.
But Rouhani's allusion was not only to the jihadists of ISIS. In the conflict in Syria, Tehran has been a staunch ally of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad against Western-backed rebels as well as ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
"We helped the armies and governments of Iraq and Syria, at their request," Rouhani said. "If terrorists start showing up in other regional countries, their only hope is Iran's army, the Revolutionary Guards, and the Basij (militia)."
"They shouldn't think that Western or world powers would defend them," he added.

Iran: Moscow, Tehran to use ‘all means’ to end Syria crisis
By Times of Israel staff September 22, 2015
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Russia and Iran plan to use any means necessary to end the years-long crisis in war-torn Syria, the Israeli Walla news website reported Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, Abdollahian said both Iran and Russia would continue “dialogue” with the Syrian opposition but insisted that embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad must be part of any solution to the conflict.
According to Mehr, “consequences of Israeli regime attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque” were also on the agenda of a meeting between Abdollahian and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
Talks between the two deputy foreign ministers began on the same day as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the outskirts of Moscow.
Netanyahu and Putin discussed coordination between the Russian military and the IDF, with Israel vowing to prevent advanced weaponry reaching Assad ally and Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah via Syria.
