I thought it might be a good idea to warn others about those pill cutters. I've used them regularly for many, many years....almost 30 years, but wound up getting badly cut a couple of weeks ago on one of them.
I had washed it so I could use it for a different medication and had it all the way open and turned upside down to dry. That night I didn't feel well and just wanted to get to bed, but didn't want to leave it out in case the cats would get hurt on it. So I grabbed it and was attempting to do two things at once, so was trying to close it one handed. Well, it slipped and the next thing I knew was that it had sliced through my thumb like water! It was deep and hurt horribly. So in trying to get it off my thumb, my hand twisted and it cut into another part of my thumb!
I knew it had cut me, but didn't realize how bad it was, only that it hurt. I had a paper towel wrapped around it to stop the bleeding, but it wasn't stopping. There was blood everywhere and I was frantically trying to clean it all up and keep from getting more on anything. I went to put some band aids on it but every time I tried to take off the paper towel to put the band aid on, the blood would just pour out. Bruce was was finally able to get a couple of band aids on me to stop the bleeding. It was the next day when changing the band aids again that I realized it had really needed stitches. But I knew it would eventually heal anyway, and it was too late for the stitches by then, so I just dealt with it. It's mostly healed now, all except the cut on the very top of my thumb, but hopefully that one will be soon as well.
I just wanted to warn people to be very careful with these things and not get over confident with them like I did. They can cut you very badly and should be handled with care. Trust me, I'm certainly going to be much more careful in the future!
